Yah, just saw that, that sucks. I have had my fair share of those weekends. One at the birds too. Not to much fun.

Well, the Kimbrough was fun and frustrating at the same time ...

We had several Maverick Racers in the A-Mains, and almost everyone running the chassis was getting around the track well. Justin Tuey finished 3rd in the Sportsman Mod A. Kevin Osmon took 4th in 19 Turn A, and 6th in the Expert Mod A. Austin Gossard finshed 5th in the 19 Turn A, and qualified for the Stock and Sportsman Mod A's. Eric Benham and Tom Sobetski finished 3rd and 7th in the 19 Turn B. Nick Skinner and I both had fun in the Truck class. Rod Parker had fun in the 19 Turn Class. And Cody Borders had fun in the Sportsman Mod class.

Overall, I'm really pleased with everyone and how they did. This was not an easy track to get dialed in on. And, when you made a mistake, or got collected in someone else's mistake, the wall was brutal! Also, the radio problems were really tough ... (I'm not saying a lot about this, but the racers who turned on radios in the pits should be ashamed of themselves.)

Anyway, it was great to see everyone at the race! Thank you all for running your Maverick Oval Chassis, and I look forward to seeing you all at another race soon!

Redemption is sweet! I just got back from the races, tonight was the annual Firecracker 60....60 lap mains for all A mains. I pulled off a win with a very strange setup...The front plate was all the way foward and I ran silvr springs and light oil all the way around....The car had a little push to it (Long wheelbase, no wonder) but I could still drive it in without scrubbing a ton of speed.

Missed the first point series of the summer, I sure would like to win the second one coming up!

A big Thank You goes out to KC Racing, Banzai motors, Jake, and the rest of the Maverick drivers....I consider this a big win after that horrible last weekend, and I wouldnt have been able to do it without you guys!

Cody: Nice job! Glad your spirits are up again after the K-400 Race. Big races can take a lot out of a guy, especially when things don't go well. But, keep sticking with it, and like last weekend, then wins will start up again!

Any word on how our East Coast Crew did at the Race Rock??

TinManSEP
07-13-2003, 10:51 AM
Well, Race Rock is in the Books!! Mike Boylan put on a great show as always. Open Practice on Friday, don't rememebr who won practice though...LOL. Saturday the sun was up and we were ready to go. My first qualifier was a crashfest, don't know why on 4 cars on the track. Phil chased his car..couldn't get the push out. second qualifier was a little better, but we both worked hard on the cars, mine was too loose and Phil's was to tight. After a rain delay I got mine really dialed in, only 3 seconds off TQ and Phil still struggled with his "southern jinx". The rains kept the mains from happening, but all in all it was a great day. And Phil promised to get Katf1sh next week on the "rug". Moral of the story is start with something you know works and make it better!!!

ahhhhhhhhhh the agony...lol 4 cell stock and 19 t had one car in common...he he he can i make it 3 in a row on poor phil? the damn rain killed what would have been a killer A main! and phil would have had a chance to race his way into the A through bump ups. so who realy knows what could have happened? once you make the show anything can happen. looks like the rock part 2 may take place in sept or oct this year though. make plans now to attend....

I was wondering if there would ever be a 1/12th scale MOC, styled after either the '02 or '03? I need to get a better chassis than the G-Force, it flexes too much for me.

Most laps I ever turned at hobby world 32 at 4min 6sec. With Phil Owen turning 32 4min 3sec. The 03's were hooked up and gone. The car is in a league of its own. :dude: Great Car Jake! Hats off.

Jake,
Ran my '03 for the first time friday as well in a pro-spec class wee are starting. Phil was alot of help with my setup and the car was a rocket! The chasis is very efficient and scrapes off very little speed in corners.
The only problem I have is a possible weak spot in chasis. With all the adjustment holes in front chasis adjustment plate, it breaks easily with the mildest collisions. Are there any plans to strengthen this area? From what I understand I am not the only one to experience this. Would you recomend an adjustable caster block brace?

Greg,

Glad to hear you've got the car together, really glad to hear you like the corner speed you're already getting out of it!

Not so glad to hear about the front plate ... Yes, we've seen a few break, mostly from unlucky shots against an unforgiving wall ... I wouldn't say they break from mild collisions, I've only broken one this last year and my collisions are never mild! :) (I'm the only guy to ever break a chassis in half!)

Anyway, we have a thicker front plate, which is stronger. You may have to shave the lower a-arm to maintain ride height when you run it. Running a brace would also help. For the '04, I am going to leave a little more material in that area on the plate.

Thanks for the feedback Greg!

How about a sliding tray to the '04? One where you can make an adjustment from the bottom of the chassis using only one wrench.

How about that prototype rear pod? Any hope for getting it out in '04?

That and maybe a thicker bumper...I like to use those it seems. :drunk:

I dont see a whole lot that you can do to the car....Its got so much stuff on it already. Will the '04 be a whole new car or?

Jake, check your PM box, Ive got a ton of those "So Big" viruses in my email.

Katfish: Yep, I've seen the totals! Congrats man, nice work! You and the ADX crew have more luck than Phil and the Maverick Crew when it comes to the rug racin' .... How about e-mailing me your set-up for your good luck, and I'll add it to my website! LOL There must be a trick to it ... How you put you socks on in the morning? What you eat for breakfast? Lucky rabbits foot? Tell Phil, please!

Maverick: Sliding tray for the battery, or front plate? Both are on the "possible changes" list already. So is a "Cody Edition" front bumper (titanium!). The rear pod is cool, but a little too complex, I've got some new ideas on that though ....
Thanks for the input Cody! E-mail me any future thoughts you may have.

I'd like to congratulate Phil Owen (19 Turn) and Don Raulerson (stock) for their TQ's and wins last weekend at the First Coast Carpet track. I know both have worked very hard on their set-ups to make their Mavericks very fast, and now it's paid off. Nice work guys!

Mike: Yep, this chassis has been working very well every where it's been run. It's a proven winner on flat carpet, and if it's not already, I'm sure it will be a proven winner on banked carpet also.

There is no reason why the car cant and wont work at any track. The car has more adjustments then just about anything else out there. It makes it even easier to tune to whatever track you want to tune it to.

Yes Jake..Florida has been very very wet! But did get a chance to run a little carpet and still need some help there. Going to see Phil in J'ville in a couple of weeks, so we'll give it another shot. When the sun has been out the car is still very fast and I show Boylan my tail and then he returns the favor...LOL

Rain should be gone now..so we'll have a few new Maverick reports soon.

WOWEEEEE!! The Maverick came in Thursday, I put it together that evening and the next, and brought it to the track today, I didn't have that much time to set it up, I just estimated on the tweak when I built the car and when I put it on the track it was close to perfect (no car will ever be perfect).

I haven't tried front offset or the thick front plate yet, but it was TWO LAPS faster than the L40! The car handles VERY well, and I look forward to running it in Maine next week (which unfortunately means I have to change the setup  unless I order another one :) ) and I look forward to my next MOC3, and an 04' when they are released.

The car is great, I just need to lighten it up a little and play around with all the tuning options it offers. I look forward to running the car next week, and using all of the stickers that were included to cover all the mistakes I made in the body lol. Great car!
