View Full Version : The MAVERICK OVAL CHASSIS Thread
JPH Racing 12-01-2005, 07:48 PM mmccoy: New 1/12 scale? The on-road chassis? It's in development, but not on the front burner right now. We have the carpet On-Road Nats at Stockton this winter, so I'll hopefully have some in that field to see how it stacks up.
If you're talkin' 1/12 oval chassis ... And, I'm sure you are (just pulling your leg by including the on-road info above), I've been testing some changes to the Mini Mav, but it's still in the really early prototype stages. I'll keep you guys posted as things develop, but I'll be off the wheel for the next month during the Holiday Season here at the shop.
Mach: Sorry about the delay. I'm not liking it at all either! Once things get rolling with these two machine shops, I shouldn't have anymore down time. Hopefully it will be just another week on the aluminum, I want you to have a kit ASAP!
MT2Racer 12-01-2005, 11:08 PM Anyone still here
Mach10_shooter 12-02-2005, 08:13 AM Jake, please post here when you have the kits ready. You could also send me an Email.

JAGIIIZ 12-02-2005, 12:37 PM Can anyone comment on the CW slider vs. Maverick 05 Slider? I have a Maverick 05 OPC and it is an awesome car. I'm getting a slider and was wondering if anyone could comment. Thanks!!
Scott M 12-02-2005, 01:01 PM JAGIIIZ,
I can only comment on how excellent the 05 slider is. Very straight forward and adjustable.
A buddy I reace with, however, just sold his CW and is strictly Maverick now. From pitting next to him through the CW dial in process, it appeared to me that the CW was much more difficult to get dialed. He had to spent some time on the phone with the CW guys as the instructions seemed a bit less helpful than Jakes. I'll ask my friend if he has more specifics on this issue and post them if he does.
I would only recomend Maverick to anyone who asked, but that is my limited opinion.
JAGIIIZ 12-02-2005, 01:04 PM Thanks for the advise!!
Mach10_shooter 12-03-2005, 10:35 AM Can anyone tell me what RC Driver issue had the article in it.
Thanks

BMCALLISTER01 12-03-2005, 12:25 PM I love my 05 slider! As a matter of fact i set the track record with it last night in 19t.
JPH Racing 12-03-2005, 02:23 PM MT2: Plenty of people here, where have you been? :)
Mach10: I'll let ya know right away!
Jag: Looks like you've been getting plenty of feedback and opinions on the Mav vs CW, both on this thread and the CW thread. Basically, they are both great chassis and you can't go wrong with either one. Right now, oval racers are very lucky to have so many high quality, high end, oval chassis on the market to choose from.
In regard to why there weren't more Mavericks at the Oval Masters ... Well, I hope next year we can get a crew out there to represent the chassis. This year, being the first year of the event, we decided to wait and see how things turned out. It's very expensive to commit to a race like that and with the snowbirds only a few months away, and it being so late in the season, the budget this year was already spent. Keep in mind, someone has to pay for sponsored guys to attend races ... With most companies, it's the racer who pays the way in higher kit prices. CW is very lucky, cause the owner has deeper pockets than most! :)
Anyway, Greg Hartman showed up and finished 2nd in the A of 6 Cell Mod. If they averaged how many chassis were there, versus the finishing positions, I think we would have ended up 2nd in that class for the MFG title! LOL
The R/C Driver issue should be at your local shop anytime now. We just got ours a few days ago. It's a great article, Erich did a nice job with it. For those of you who liked seeing the article, please send him an email to let him know: ereichert@rcdriver.com
And, if you liked seeing the article, and liked seeing oval stuff in general in the mag, send Greg an e-mail and let him know. gregv@rcdriver.com They really like feedback, and letting them know you appreciated any kind of oval article in the mag will get more in the future. Doesn't have to be a long, detailed e-mail, just let them know you like oval racing and like reading oval articles ...
BMC: Congrats on the new track record!
tony 13 12-03-2005, 03:09 PM After last nights award ceremony the CW owner should be able to fly everyone he knows to out of state races...lol
wildman 12-04-2005, 03:19 PM Hey Jake,
Smashed the stock track record at S-roc last night by almost two laps 62 4:00.42. Also set the brusless track record last week 66laps only 2 seconds off my 19t track record. Brushless motors rock! Also ran the reedy n.e.o. one and has some real good rip. finally got my chassis Fri. Maverick cars so fast through the corners, gobbles the competion up lap after lap. Some day I will have luck on my side at a big race and put it in victory lane. Thanks Jake and Brad for the fast car. Brad are you racing ? what night does the track run that you race at. would like to come out and race with you guys might bring sonny along.
Kevin
Sonny B 12-04-2005, 11:45 PM Wildman I thought you were smarter then that. Where Brad races it’s cold, where Jake races it’s warm. Think we should make a trip to the left coast.
Congrats on the new records.
j21moss 12-04-2005, 11:51 PM Sonny!!!!!!!!!! u coming to Stout for New Year's Day race????? Will have my 05 Maverick ready to go then...wooohooo can't wait!!!
Sonny B 12-05-2005, 12:03 AM Hi Dr. Moss.
Yes looks like I will make the New Years race.
05 car. I'm not sure you can handle such up to date equipment. Think you better put the old Citgo T-bird on top just so you feel more comfortable.
BHayes 12-05-2005, 07:48 AM wildman, I've been busy with work and family lately, so I have not been able to race yet this winter. Hopefully I'll make it out soon.
Sonny, did you notice how Moss is waiting until 2006 to debut his '05 chassis? He lets his cars age like a fine wine before poppong the cork!
j21moss 12-05-2005, 08:50 AM i've had plenty of time to read the instrutions how to put the car together
Matt#1 12-05-2005, 04:36 PM Hey Guys,
Matt Gansen here.
I just Got my new Maverick OPC all put togther last week and had it out on the Rug yesterday for the first time and was very happy the way the car worked. I started 3ed in the A in 19t and had tuff luck in the main but for the first day I was very happy and can't wait to get it on the rug again. Next race i will be at will be Cinncinati.
After my buddy Mark Steiner got The OPC and has been doing outstanding with it, I decieded to call Jake up and get me one on the way. We have been to 7 different tracks this year and every track Marks car is very fast, so I had to have one. I hope to get mine the same way, i dont think it will be a problem so watch out for the brown car!!
Cant wait for Cinncinati.

rcgen 12-05-2005, 06:21 PM Anyone have a setup for carpet oval for the 05OPC? I'm thinking about going to the birds and there is a carpet race coming up in Jan here in Fl. I am clueless with the carpet stuff most of my racing have been with outdoor asphault.
MK Race 12-05-2005, 08:28 PM Hey Matt, thought you guys were going to DeKalb? Going to Cincy now?
tony 13 12-05-2005, 08:39 PM Nice build matt, that car looks clean..
rcgen, Check out the swift site www.swiftracingproducts.com, if you search around for setups there are a few for carpet. there are some for mod (DW's) setup and there are a couple for spec 19, Brads nats car and my (AC) spec 19 regional car. they are some good starting points. Hope to see you at the birds.
AC
JPH Racing 12-05-2005, 09:50 PM Wildman: Sorry again about the mix up on where the chassis was sent! You and the other Kevin need to use your last names too from now on! :)
Congrats on ripping up the track records at S-Roc!
Sonny: Come on out anytime! In January there's another 3 day race at Stockton, maybe Horizon will fly you out to show us the telemetry system?
Mr.Moss: Still reading the instructions? Well, that gives you the award for being the most thorough builder ... The opposite award always goes to Mr. Katfish, I'm still not sure what he uses the instructions for?
Matt: SWEET! Nice build job, and I like the paint layout. I'm sure you'll get it fully dialed in soon and get some good luck in the mains. Keep us posted.
rcgen: Like AC said, there's current setups on the site. AC's setup is a great starting point. Post up, or e-mail me, if you have any specific questions. Will you get a chance to run any carpet before the big race?
Matt#1 12-05-2005, 10:35 PM Hey Matt, thought you guys were going to DeKalb? Going to Cincy now?
I am going to cincy with paul S. and Neal. Mark is staying back, you going?
-Matt
Hurricane Racer 12-05-2005, 10:57 PM Nice looking car Matt!
BTW, if you have a spare set of the flames Pauls car uses, (and Marks!), would you be able to bring them along?
Thanks
See ya Thurs

Mark #10 12-06-2005, 12:35 AM Hey Gansen.....Steve Francis called, he wants his paint scheme Back!! :D
Now that me and Matt both have Mavericks.....when we run 1 & 2....he will atleast have the right car now!!
My car was pretty good at Vinton on Sunday. Qualified 2nd to Danny Bartholomew. Passed Danny for the lead a few laps into the Main, and we finished that way. I believe its a new a Track Record.....not sure though.
Wish I was going to Cinnci....but other things have come up!
 Mark
Sonny B 12-06-2005, 12:57 AM JPH if you can talk them into it I’ll be there.
Mark come on now Steve Francis wouldn’t run a brown car. :p
Matt just messin with ya. Nice looking build. C-ya this weekend.
rcgen 12-06-2005, 10:01 AM I printed the setups from the website the other day and wasn't sure on which one. LOL
Mr Snowbirds himself is having a carpet race in Jan at the Minnreg Building in Largo Fl. I plan on getting alot of carpet time. Racing in Fl is usually asphault or parking lot. We rarely have the oppourtunity to run indoors let alone carpet.
JPH Racing 12-06-2005, 02:38 PM rcgen: Get any carpet time you can prior to the 'Birds! Carpet is way different than asphalt, and can take a few runs to get the "feel" for it.

We have the same problem here is SC,no carpet,I think our new track owner is about to change that though.
Jake, your not going to believe what has happened,I sure wish I didn't have to believe it.All the aluminum parts for my 05 opc got lost in the mail! while being shipped back from anodizing, unbelievable!!!!!!! idiot me didn't put insurance or anything on them either.
JPH Racing 12-06-2005, 04:49 PM Pepe: Did you use UPS, or the post office?? Surely the anodizer shipped with return receipt or signature?? Dang Dude, loosing all those parts is a real bummer! :(
jimmy24 12-06-2005, 05:11 PM mark, you were faaast in vinton, but like i said i woulndt have shown that much patience, with db justkidding:)) you guys give untill the carpet nats and this old timer will be tradin plastic with ya! no more mod for me to expensive. its back to stock and 19. i did pretty good sunday in stock with old 10L.

Pepe: Did you use UPS, or the post office?? Surely the anodizer shipped with return receipt or signature?? Dang Dude, loosing all those parts is a real bummer! :(
Jake,
It was an individual, and I sent the parts priority mail.He said he sent them back the same way So I don't know,I'm pretty ticked about the whole thing,Man, I had a set of aluminum body post in there as well as a set of CRC side shocks and a hpi center shock. All I'm left with is a pile of graphite.Maybe Santa will be good to me,I'm inquiring to him(HER) now.More like Begging LOL.
katf1sh 12-06-2005, 06:59 PM pepe are you going to the minn reg race in january? if so i look forward to meeting you. if by chance i'm on pace i can help you out... peace
Kat,
What's the details on that race.Carpet or Asphalt?
davepull 12-06-2005, 07:41 PM carpet oval will be on the 8th a sunday looks like we'll be able to practice saturday night.
Hi jake
hey thanks for the articles on the swift site they rock
tightline31408 12-06-2005, 08:01 PM I AM trying the maverick for the first time,on carpet. need some set-up info.thank you
jflack 12-06-2005, 08:06 PM OPC or Slider? What class? Type Track, flat or banked?
tony 13 12-06-2005, 08:18 PM Check on this site and also check out swiftracingproducts.com for some team setups...

Milky 12-06-2005, 08:29 PM Ok guys I think im going maverick. All short flat asphalt some carpet all foam. OPC or slider? As of now im on an L4 and I almost never move the battery, I run it all the way back with the Silva extender and tray. Any help???
Andy
jflack 12-06-2005, 10:38 PM I would go with the OPC on any outdoor track, foam or cap tires. I think it's going to be very good on the carpet also, I'm just not very good on the carpet. I think you will be very happy with the OPC on any surface, any tire!
burbs 12-07-2005, 02:47 AM I would go with the OPC on any outdoor track, foam or cap tires. I think it's going to be very good on the carpet also, I'm just not very good on the carpet. I think you will be very happy with the OPC on any surface, any tire!
Jimmy buy some side shocks and you will be amazed how much faster you will be on carpet.. them tubes just do not work well on flat rug.. get the crc shocks.. there almost zero maintinance.. 30-40 wt oil.. gold or blue springs..
tony 13 12-07-2005, 03:22 AM Another side shock option are the silva shocks.I am diggin' the silva side shocks. little to no maintanance, easy to build and as smooth as butter. As far as I know I think they are basically the same thing as the CRC. I also think Jake carries both brands.
AC
burbs 12-07-2005, 03:26 AM the crc has a delrin cap.. I have had more then enough silva shocks, and the crc's are in a league of there own when comparing the two.. ask anyone who has touched the CRC's.. there the Bomb..
I would have to sday the derin cap makes them so much smoother..
tightline31408 12-07-2005, 08:04 AM OPC or Slider? What class? Type Track, flat or banked?
IT would be stock class, asphalt flat track with foam tires

I totally agree, the CRC's are the snizzle, WAYYYY better than the Sylva's.
JPH Racing 12-07-2005, 02:47 PM Jimmy: Build up that vintage '02 Maverick and give it a run! :)
Pepe: I had a lost UPS package come back to us months after it was sent ... I've got my fingers crossed that the USPS will find you a little Holiday miracle and locate the package. But, if not, put together a list and shoot me an e-mail.
Katfish: What's up! Congrats on the Turkey race being such a great success!
Davepull: You're welcome! We have a good time writing them and helping out oval racers, no matter what chassis they run. Got some new articles in the works, should be done soon.
JFlack: Hey, how ya doing!?! Have you been racing much?
Burbs: Jimmy will find his speed on carpet at the 'Birds this year ... I'll bring along some extra side shocks, incase he wants to give them a try ... But, I'm also bringing along some dampener tubes, incase Jimmy finds his speed with them!
Tightline: Check out the setups on the site: www.swiftracingproducts.com (http://www.swiftracingproducts.com/) AC's 19 Turn carpet setup should be a good starting point for stock also. Maybe try one harder on the tire choice for the rear.
Hmmm ... I've had very few problems with the S.C. micro shocks and run them on every car I have ... But, I have been hearing that the CRC's are very good. Might be time to get some in black for you guys?
tightline31408 12-07-2005, 06:13 PM HEY JPHRACING!!!!!!!!! thank you 4 the INFO. I will try that and let you know how I did.
jflack 12-07-2005, 07:42 PM The OPC would be the best for Asphalt.
I have ran a few times on carpet in Dallas,Tx with not so great results. I went to Greeneville, Tn at a 160ft snowbirds type track and was a couple of tenths off what we should of been running in stock. I'm working on it, just need to find the right chassis balance that will work for me. Looking forward to the start of the Cap tire season.
The OPC would be the best for Asphalt.
Looking forward to the start of the Cap tire season.
You and me both Jimmy!
