Thanks boys, I was pretty darn happy with the 19 turn car all weekend. once we got it close all it seemed to take was a 1/2 round of tweak to get where I needed it. It was pretty cool being competitive with the big boys. I think if I had a little more patience on saturday I could have had a pretty fast 59 lap run and maybye even ended up starting second unfortunately the rear end of lap traffic seemed to find its way into my path. All I know is I had a blast, thanks to Jake DW for all the help, and Jake and Brad for an awsome car. I think we have proven that the Maverick chassis can keep up and out run the best!:)

hey brad and john, where are you guys running at these days? I'd had a blast the last time down in new castle. Even though I played the part of traffic on the track. Drop me a line some time and maybe we'll meet up again. Don't forget you can always come up and visit me at my track.

RcOvalGuy, I have not run at all yet this season. I'll probably be running at Stout Field in Indianapolis. You should give Stout Field a try. I think the track is identical to the New Castle track from last year.

Hey Jake,
Maverick's dominate the midwest grand national race at fast lane speedway. Mark (lastname ?) T.Q and won in 19t, and I T.Q and won brushless. There were four maverick racers at this race our numbers are growing. My car in b/l was a rocket all weekend. Thanks Jake and brad for the awesome rocket ship to drive.

Yep, Kev was quick, and so was Mark. Kelm and I played leap frog much of the weekend in stock. We q'ed second in stock but got bounced around at the start and didn't recover much...also didn't loose much as the race went on though so it was kind of bittersweet. First A Main that really meant something since the Birds and probably only my second ever...one day I'll learn to be more aggressive at the start. My 19t was pretty fast, it just tightenned up as the day went on and was too far gone by the time the A arrived. It was a lot of fun seeing more Mavericks out there, especially when they're up front!
Overall I think:
Brushless:
TQ and win
19T:
TQ and win; fourth
Stock:
Q's 2 and 3; finished 3 and 4

EDIT: Hey Kevin, look at your trophy again, I think Shane might have switched them accidently because I've got the Brushless A-Main winner, you might have my TC one.

My setup is basicly Dw's mod setup with a few changes. red progressive rt and standered red on left. center shock black silva w/50wt. sides 40 wt silver wolf right shock, gold wolf left shock. offset t plate with soft finishline t plate. Hope this gives you a basic starting point. Its all in the front end setup that makes a really fast car.

Whew! I have read all 149 pages in this thread since last Monday when my '05 order was placed. Below is the e-mail I sent to Jake to express my 1st run results with the new car and my gratitude. (some names have been changed to protect the innocent)

Jake,
Let me introduce myself. My name is Scott and I am the newest Phoenix inductee to the Maverick runner's. A buddy (who runs Maverick) I race with regularly and has guided me through my first year of Oval racing ordered the new 05 for me last week.

Well it arrived Friday and I was able to pick it up at about 8PM. Needless to say, with the track opening at 3PM Sat. I was "on the build". After a flurry of Graphite dust (I observed your sanding precautions) and gluing 3 of my fingers together, the parts were ready for assembly. The car went together well, my only comment would be on future runs on the aluminum parts put a "right" and "left" on the side shock mounts (I had to boot the computer and print a picture to figure these out) and a "Top" on the pod parts. Other than that the kit went together easily. Finally around 2AM, the only thing left was placement of the electronics and I was in no shape to tackle that.

Of course, dreams of left turns filled my sleep until I woke to get back to work. Placed the electronics and retro-fitted an old HPI Monte body that I ran on my L-4 (there was no time to cut and paint my new Proto HD).

We were first to the track, as usual, and within 2 full turns of tweak added, the car was handling good as long as I kept my left wheels off the rumble strips. If I did this, I would scrub an abnormal amount of speed. Talked to my buddies about this and we went to a softer right side rear spring and problem solved.

Finished 3rd in the 1st heat but car was very competitive. Second heat went better - won it and TQ'd. I have never done that before! The Main was a bit of bad luck. I was leading for the first 2-3 minutes until a lapped car bumped me into the infield. Our infield is pretty dirty as some of our track guys don't give it enough attention. Needless to say the car went extremely loose and with me not willing to crash my or other cars while trying to clean my tires, I pulled off to race another day.

Speaking of that, we are hosting the 06 US Pancar Champs race this next weekend for the SW region. I will attach a flyer link. Where my fellow Maverick Racer and I will be the locals representing Maverick, Swift, and JPH. My new body, completed Sunday, has the big Maverick sticker across the hood and the medium one on the trunk lid, with JPH, and Swift as the secondary. I believe my partner has the "Jake's Performance Hobbies" across his hood.

tony13: Yes we are real happy with it! It is a dedicated race facility.

I really felt bad for the guys who had a hurricane or thunderstorm every time they tried to race this summer. This track holds races every Saturday and Wednesday nights year-round. I think we had 3 rain-outs thus far this year. The only draw back is 140 degree track temp in the summer before the sun goes down. But I will be racin' in a light jacket in December and January.

This question may have been asked before but I was not able to locate an answer so I am going to ask.

What effect is there from running the pod in the long, middle or short postion? Let's say that you wanted to run a 10 3/8 wheelbase. How would the car perform differently running the pod in the long position and adjusting the front shorter to get the 10 3/8 wheelbase verses running the pod in a shorter wheelbase and the front slid further forward to get the desired wheelbase?

Thanks

RC

Under most situations, the shorter pod, all things being equal, will make the car turn a little better, due to the ratio of the axle to shock being smaller. It makes the wheel rate higher, like puting on a stiffer spring. But It will also not go over bumps as well either.

We have run the pod in all the positions, and have had fast cars no matter what setup. But the rule of thumb is, bigger track = longer pod.

Keeping the same wheel base, but making the rear longer will change the way the car handles.. your moving your rear axle further away from your t plate or pivot point.. Think of it as a lever.. the longer the handle, the easier ti is to pull down.. IE the further the axle from the pivot point, the easier it is for the pod to pivot..i think of it as more of a fine tune adjustment.

your also moving your axle further away from the batteries... that is why i always ran middle in back.. it seemed to be the best of both worlds, and if i wanted shorter wheel base i did the front..

Update from the Phoenix US pancar champs race.

I was greatly pleased with the new '05HE! I managed to have my heat group covered for the 4 qualifier runs. Won them all and qualified for the "A" - this is another first. Better yet my lap times have dropped from the 5.1-5.0 range to the 4.7-4.9 range which is what is needed to be competitive at our track.

Mains went differently as rough driving made the qualifying times unattainable. I managed to finish 6th overall in the "AAA" format (I would have been lucky to get 10th in the old L-40).

GREAT CAR - WELL WORHT IT!

Hey everyone. I used the new battery tray adapter this last Saturday night and the extra adjustability and the ease of use are a very nice addition to an already great chassis.

Plus, I can tell you that I took some pretty good hits in the second heat, hard enough to brake my steel t-plate, but the tray didn't slip at all!!

Wow, for some reason it feels like I haven't been on here for weeks ... I've been getting over the flu and haven't posted for a while ... It's time to get caught up!

I posted Anthony's and Dave's carpet setups from the Region 12 Race on the swift site.

Kevin: Congrats on the brushless TQ and win! I've got to get one and give it a try .... How about a few pics of that car, so I can post them on the site?

CBear: Awesome results from the Grand Nats race. Thanks for keeping track of how the Maverick guys finished up!

Katfish: What's up there brotha?

Mark#10: Dude, you gotta let up know when you're on a streak like that! That's an awesome run in the last 5 races, keep up the good work! (just read your next post, make the last 6 races! Awesome!)

Scott: Welcome to the Maverick Crew! I know you and Allan will be a force in Arizona!

Tony: How about a road trip to Phoenix??

MK Race: We've been having great luck running the tplate offset. Haven't raced any banked track stuff in a while, but on every flat track, carpet or asphalt, I just leave the tplate offset.

Roadsplat: I see DW and Burbs answered the question, but I'll add running the long pod on a bumpy track seems to work best. Right now, we've been running them in the middle position. (DW favors the short, I favor the long, so we've settled on the middle spot for now!)

Scot: Sorry to hear the mains were a bit rough, but congrats on the qualifying efforts! That's a sweet drop in laptimes. Amazing what a car that turns really well will do for ya!

TN: Thanks for testing the part! Wasn't your best day at the track, but the part held up great! Congrats on taking the season Championship for 19 Turn!

Annual Gobbler Classic:Race date: Saturday October 29th 2005 at Small Cars Unlimited

We ran 3 heat and the Main, turnout was very low in 6 cell oval. I TQ and Won the Main. I Ran 6.1 sec lap with 6.3s out the end. I was on fast 38 lap runs(about 38 4:01, that's about 4 sec faster than the track record) a couple of times. I did run a 37 4:06 with 2 wrecks.

The Maverick 05' OPC was by far the fastest car I have ever ran on the track. It was ballistic all weekend. The track is so bumpy, running the same line 2 laps in a row is near impossible.

Thanks Jake for a great car, it has been fast everywhere I have set it down this year. I have won 5 out of 8 classes in races this year at Paved oval events, on tracks from flat asphalt to high banked concrete tracks(all on cap tires, stock class and 1 19 turn class). TQ 3 of those races, and finished in the Top 4 in all but 1 of the races(DNF in that one race). The Mav 05' OPC is just FAST!

Hey Mid-west guys, I'm not going to make Omaha afterall...Brother-in-law is getting married Friday night and after that I'm going to be in no mood to drive the three hours up there without seeing the track in nearly two years. I think I'll stay here, and maybe if the wife lets me out of the house get beat up turning right. For the locals, I'm trying to convince a group of us from KC to go up sometime in January...I figure that track would be a good place to warm-up for the 'Birds.

A few weeks ago at HobbyWorld(Jax Fl.) I ran my 2nd fastest run ever with it. Just goes to show the quality of the Maverick product. This is the same car, Body and all that was run at this years Birds so it has a few laps(crashes)on it but keeps going strong. I may even run it at the 06 Birds just for old times sake.
