View Full Version : The MAVERICK OVAL CHASSIS Thread
cneyedog 09-18-2005, 07:30 PM Hi Jake !
Butts, everyone knew you couldnt stay away ! ....... you didnt sell your tools ....... your never officially retired if you have your r/c tools.........
RcOvalGuy 09-19-2005, 12:08 AM Hey everyone, what's new? Man, I lost track of this thread again, just got too busy with other things to keep up. I'm not even going to try and read 40 pages of posts again. Just thought I'd drop in and say hello. Just wondering what everyone's up to since the new carpet season is just around the corner. Our track is opening up on the 30th this month. Doen't look like my Maverick will get used to much this season considering the majority of the people plan to run 6 cell stock. Not too many people for a 4 cell class. Well, that's about it. Good luck to all and don't forget to turn left.
Shawn
burbs 09-19-2005, 12:18 AM a associated L4 tray will fit the mount on the maverick.. then you can use it in 6 cell
CBear3 09-19-2005, 09:09 AM Hey Jake, not to be a pain but did you get my email about finishing off a Maverick Slider?
JPH Racing 09-19-2005, 02:32 PM Hi-ya Rich! :)
Shawn: Hey, nice to have you say hello again! Like Burbs said, bolt on a 6 cell tray and rip it up!
Cbear: Aol's spam filters seem to be more aggressive than ever ... Please resend the e-mail. I try to stay on top of the e-mails, so you know if you haven't heard from me in a day or two, resend it. Thanks!
RcOvalGuy 09-19-2005, 11:54 PM Has anyone tried running a 6 cell tray on the maverick chassis? I have thought about it before, but I don't know if it would react in a weird manner considering when the car was designed and built, it was built specifically for 4 cell racing. I know the standard associateds you can go back and forth with, but with no offense to associated, I think a little more thought went into the design of the mavericks. Have a goodnight all.
Shawn
JPHRacer 09-20-2005, 12:46 AM It will probably be close to what most guys are running considering that when they run 4-cells they run the speedo and reciver on the tray to try and get as much Left Side weight bias as possible. The more Left side bias the better the car will turn.
Some 6-cell mod testing might be done over the winter, but people have done it to the older Mavericks with nothing but success, I wouldnt worry about it.

JPH Racing 09-22-2005, 09:12 PM Well, we've commited to our Snowbirds space again this year. Hopefully DW (depending on school) and I will be back out to Florida in February to hang out with everyone. Who's thinking about going from the Maverick group?
RcOvalGuy 09-22-2005, 10:13 PM I think about going every year, and then I remember that I can't afford it, let alone me probably getting majorly schooled. But I think it'd still be fun.
Shawn
tony 13 09-22-2005, 10:31 PM I may take the trip with you this year jake.....We will have to see if the bank account cooperate's with me but it is a definate possibility.

RCThunder 09-23-2005, 10:52 PM Hello everyone. A huge thanks to Jake and JPH Racing as they are always big supporters of the event and are a major reason we can put it on. Sounds like a great group coming!! Awesome. Can't wait!!!!
JPH Racing 09-25-2005, 12:52 AM Shawn: Getting schooled is a big part of the event ... Where else can you learn so much, from so many? :)
Tony: Got my fingers crossed for you Buddy! DW and I will take good care of you.
Katfish: I'm still looking at flights, but booked the hotel room a few days ago. No '06 planned yet .... The '05 still rippin' it up. Maybe a '05.5 ... There's a few little things I've been working on.
Moss: Excellent!
JFlack: I hope your hot streak is till hot in '06! It will be great to have you there. Question; Dampner tubes on carpet too??
CBear: Did ya get the parts? Glad to hear you guys will be back again this year.
Dick: I knew you would be there! Last year your enthusiasm was very contagious. Awesome to see a racers enjoying an event so much.
MikeB: Oh no, thank you! We're glad to be a part of such a prestigious race like the 'Birds.
competionpark 09-25-2005, 09:51 AM I was wondering if you guys know anyone who runs a maverick chassis in east tennessee. my dad bought a 04' opc yesterday and I would like to find some set up help. a slider car wont run so im getting rid of my hyperdrive slider car. Also are there any hobbyshops in tennessee that you distribute to. any help would be appreciated.
JPH Racing 09-25-2005, 11:26 AM CompPark: Welcome to the Maverick Crew! Off hand, I'm not sure who runs a Maverick out in TN? But, you'll find plenty of help on this thread, or you can always e-mail me directly and I'll do my best to help with setups. jphracing001@aol.com We primarily sell racer direct www.jphracing.com (http://www.jphracing.com) But, if you have a local shop that you buy from, we'd be happy to sell to them. Check out the Maverick site at www.swiftracingproducts.com (http://www.swiftracingproducts.com) for tech tips, setups, etc ...

MK Race 09-25-2005, 06:49 PM CBear-nice racin with you last night. It use to be easy to run 2 classes, but last night was too much. My brushless car started out good in practice but as the traction picked up I was losing the setup. My Maverick ran real good in stock for the first 2 rounds (real good 3rd round, but that's another story:) ) but I didn't spend enough time on it between rounds. I should have been cleaning the tires after every round but didn't and it got me in the main, way too tight. If I can help you with any setup info let me know.
Jake- might be ordering a 05 for brushless.

I ran my '05 on caps all summer but on asphalt.I would recommend using the OPC.It was much faster and easier to tune than the slider.
I'm going to BMS for the ROAR Nats this week when I get back I may have some useful information for you.The biggest thing is staying on top of the tires.Call John or Kevin at BSR and they can get you going in the right direction on tire prep.

Jake, parts came in and were put together just in time to start racing...I forgot how just how short those buttonheads for the pod had to be so I was running all over town trying to track some down. The report follows... :)
Hey Mike, it was great to see you and all the out-of-town guys again. I think I'm close enough to hitting on a hot setup that I don't want to get confused quite yet :)
The stock car isn't really too far off. I've still got absolutely nothing at the start of a run, though. The car is so flat its stupid, but the good thing to that is the times never drop, so in the last 3 minutes of the race I was just a tick slower than John, but just as quick as anybody else. I was trying like heck to catch up to you in the main, Mike, but it wasn't to be.
The new car I built for 19t was an experience. First I had the above-mentioned screw problem, then as I'm finishing up the rear axle the threads turn right out of the thing (for the third time in its life) so I had to go beg for one out of Shane's toolbox. I've run 19t maybe a dozen times in my life, the last time being at the Grand-Nats last year and it showed. I could never figure out the right rollout, and I know the motor was a dog (left over Snowbirds handout) but I just wanted to get the car sorted. When I put that baby down on the track it was smooth as silk. I just thought it was stuck a bit too much, so I tried to loosen it up. I tweaked more than usual to also combat puting a stiffer RF in it (it looked like it was rolling over too much). After that I was toast... I could never get the thing to tighten back up and it was too free on entry to hold the low line even with a purple RF spring in it. Center off it turned just perfectly, though, so I've just got to play with it a bit.
We'll see what I come up with in the next couple weeks, although I've got to get to work painting bodies...I've got a "customer" coming into town in two weeks and I promised him this year's paint scheme...
Looking forward to seeing everybody again next month
Mark #10 09-26-2005, 02:58 PM Hey Gang,
Had my first offical race with my New '05 OPC. I run 19t on Flat Carpet. I TQ'ed and Won the A-main on the first day out, with some pretty good competition I might add.
Needless to say, I am VERY happy with the cars performance first day out  & Look forward to the season ahead of me!!
What an AWSOME CAR, Keep up the good work!!
 Mark

Awesome Mark !
I'll bet that finally convinced Murphy to get a Maverick now !!!
I"ve been working on him all summer.
My new '05 H.E. hits the rug on Oct. 22 at Tri-Clone.
pmsimkins 09-26-2005, 08:16 PM Jeff,
What class are you gonna race? 1 car or 2?
TeamGoodwrench 09-26-2005, 08:21 PM I'll just race the 1 car (the new Maverick) in stock at Tri-Clone on the rug until I get it dialed in.
Then I'll probably call up Jake to send Maverick #2 so I can build another one for brushless :)
burbs 09-26-2005, 08:40 PM jeff check the swift site.. i have my killer fast triclone carpet setup on there.. its a 65 lap setup... only three people hit 65 in stock.. corey, myself and grif did it once..

Thx Mike -- yeah in fact I was just looking at it to see where you were running the battery tray !
I'm assuming it's the one called "Mike B's 4 Cell Carpet Setup" under "05 Maverick Setups" ? I have the '05 H.E. (not the OPC).
burbs 09-26-2005, 08:48 PM this is for the slider.. i ran the slider on the rug.. solid for cap tires
CBear3 09-30-2005, 11:38 AM Ran a hybrid of Jimmy's setup from little talladega (carpet) last night. I already wasn't very far off from it so I just matched up the caster and the front roll center, and instead of using damper tubes I used the red ASC springs (14 pounders just like a purple front end spring). Didn't have a spare body (Dodge MD) to cut so I ran a 10 inch wheelebase, but with the pod length to the middle setting. Even though it was the OPC and not the slider the car worked great, I set the cross weight to neutral and never touched the car again. Won every heat, but lost the Main in a dogfight. People are so much easier to pass when its just qualifying :)
JPH Racing 10-01-2005, 02:50 PM Anyone have any info on the Roar Nats? I saw that Jimmy Flack was sitting 2nd in Stock after the 2nd round, but I'd like to know how he's doing after the 4th.
burbs 10-01-2005, 02:59 PM Last i heard he was 3rd which is what my buddy there said.... Whic is better then his practice was going.. My buddy said he talked to Jimmy on tuesday.. Jimmy was quoted as saying.. If i dont get any faster soon, im going to little talledega,.. LOL ( im assuming he was kidding?) .... Looks like he found some speed...
this track is tuff.. i heard everyone exept a few were struggling... wish i was there..
Raptor_MS 10-01-2005, 09:11 PM Any word yet on where Jimmy Q'd after todays rounds?
I'm pulling for him to take home the GOLD!
NORRCA and ROAR Paved Oval Champion in the same year would be AWESOME!

TeamGoodwrench 10-01-2005, 09:15 PM Go Maverick !!!!!!!!!!
katf1sh 10-01-2005, 10:35 PM http://www.deccosoftware.com/tracks/ShowResults.asp
select tenn than bms he is 3rd after 4 rounds!
jflack 10-03-2005, 08:09 PM Well, No double! Never really got the car right, It was close but a few 1000 more laps and it would of been good. The race was fun, qual a 42 4:00:88 in 3rd, finished a way over geared 4th in the main. The OPC mav drove great all weekend...Thanks Jake.........Still not a bad weekend, only Maverick in the field and it finished 4th.......
JPH Racing 10-04-2005, 12:19 AM Jimmy: I know you worked hard to qualify and finish were you did! 4th is great for the a Roar nats, especially at BMS. That track is tough and the locals have an advantage. Thanks for the hard work.
Hey, what was the Mod A main like to watch? The results are very interesting, with the B main 2 laps up on the A?
burbs 10-04-2005, 12:23 AM jke check the nats fprum.. one wreck collected 6 cars.. i heard the carnage was insane.. I would hate to be a martial on that one
Hammer Down 10-04-2005, 04:45 PM Hey guys. The first week out with my new 05 Maverick it was TQ and lapped the feild in the A-Main 19 turn. The car was on rails. Awesome car. I can't wait till saturday to run my Mini Mav. Just have to get the loose off out of the car.

competionpark 10-04-2005, 07:53 PM do any of you guys run on a high bank concrete oval track
BA Motorsports 10-04-2005, 08:13 PM If your looking for a setup for the MAVERICK car, the NORRCA Nats. stock winning setup from Little Talladega is posted on the JPH Racing site, just go to the swift racing products link and you will find posted setups.
burbs 10-04-2005, 08:32 PM the TQ setup is faster HA HA.. Plus jimy doesnt use side shocks..
TeamGoodwrench 10-06-2005, 09:09 PM What are you guys running for rear track width on flat carpet ??
I have my new car together -- it doesn't look like you can go much less than 8" (measuring to outsides of tires). I've got the t-plate offset and the LR right up against the pod plates. Just wondering what a good width is.
Thanks !
Jeff.
burbs 10-06-2005, 10:22 PM Jeff I Ran Middle In Front, And Middle In Back.. It Worked Great..

Mike -- not the wheelbase -- I mean the rear width.
Jeff.
