OVALIST 08-29-2005, 08:22 PM Trinity Had The For The Evolution 10 Ss willyplankhead 08-29-2005, 08:46 PM cant figure out all this fus is about one thing it is not about the car most of the time it is what or who is behind the wheel jimmy is on a hot streak right now why i think he is in the zone so you could probly give him any car and he would be hard to beat alot of people on here dont know that me,kenny(aka raptor ms),jimmy, brandon(aka gilyhantree) have been racing each other about 15 years so i know this group better than anyone on here burbs 08-29-2005, 08:50 PM Not to be rude. But if the car Tq'd and won no matter who is driving, it was the fastest car.. in both classes.. willyplankhead 08-29-2005, 09:03 PM yes you are right, but is it worth everybody gettin bent out of shape like i said very proud of jimmy and all my friends and the the funny thing is i was the only KSG there plus i am one of the people that spent many hours at that track to get it back up JPH Racing 08-29-2005, 09:36 PM Please guys, just let it drop. It wasn't the Nats, it was a club race. I'm sure everyone there had the fastest car at one time or another ... Jimmy and Kevin did a great job putting the cars up front in qualifying and in the mains. If anyone has anything else to add to this conversation in a negative way, please take it to the race thread, or track thread. Those places would be more appropriate. Thank you, Jake katf1sh 08-29-2005, 10:18 PM wow! how bout dem eagles? or the hot weather we are having lately? sup burby my brother from another mother? MK Race 08-30-2005, 12:41 AM Congrats to Jimmy and Kevin. Can't wait till carpet season to race with Kevin.:) mc43 08-30-2005, 12:54 PM how much does the mav 05 slider weigh assembled?i.e.how light from legal weight is it.thankx in advance burbs 08-30-2005, 04:20 PM id say about 2 to 3 oz depending on your electronics.. i had average size electronics, and a small servo,, i had to add 3.5 oz for cap tire racing... the OPC weighs a bit more .. Dodgefan23 08-30-2005, 04:25 PM Anybody else running the ARCOR Open at Cooper's this weekend? pepe 08-30-2005, 05:25 PM Jake, Did you get my e-mail? jflack 08-30-2005, 06:31 PM Thanks everyone, the Mav OPC 05' was fast from the first run. I only got to run 2 qualifers, the first and last( I had to leave after the first qual to go fishing). Sunday was faster, the track was getting better and better after not being run on for about 2 years. The stock car ran a 39/4:01:56(TQ) and 19 turn 44/4:00:31 (TQ) both on Sunday. I was on a 45 lap run but I pinched the car off in 1 and 2 and just about spun, costing me about a 1.5sec over 2 laps. Thanks Jake for a great Oval Chassis with or without side shocks!!!!! JPH Racing 08-31-2005, 01:36 AM Pepe: Got it! just running a little behind on things right now. Should have some #'s for you in a day or so. JFlack: Congrats man! Hey, what's this about leaving an r/c car race to go fishing? Was John Foister there too? He always goes fishing during the Snowbirds ... wildman 09-01-2005, 12:14 PM Hey Jake, I want to thank you again for the great cars. Jimmy, thanks for all the help on my car getting it up to speed. Had a great time at springcove. Kevin TeamGoodwrench 09-03-2005, 02:44 PM Hey -- how do you determine how much kingpin dampening to use ?? i.e. when do you run something like 7K Assoc. lube vs. like 100K ??? Thx! jflack 09-03-2005, 04:13 PM Thicker lube = higher spring rate! also slower reaction rate. burbs 09-03-2005, 04:45 PM I personally always use the same stuff.. I prefer a very thick lube.. Depending how much is applied, seems to help with dampening.. I like the ZUBAK stuff, but its a bit slimy.. I prefer to use trinity thick dampner tube lube. It seems to be as thick as ZUBAK, but less slimy... I always apply a very very thin coat.. Just enough to notice it on the kingpin.. I find the least amount you can apply, yet keeping the kingpin smooth is best.. It seems the more you have on, the more dirt and dust you pick up.. Using more will require more frequent rebuilds.. I use an amount that allows me at least one full race day before a rebuild.. It also depends how much grime the track holds.. Ive seen some guys use so much, you wonder how the front end even works, and i know some who use none..Ive never been a fan of really thin lubes.. the front of the car seems to bounce and hop more with thiner lubes..It may work better on a really flat track, but most ive been to have bumps.. JPH Racing 09-06-2005, 11:35 AM Kevin: Glad you're happy with them! You've been fast lately! Kingpin lube: It's really a personal preference on this. DW and I usually run the same front springs, but I like 7 to 10k, he likes 30k or 50k. The thicker lube will calm the car down some, mostly going into and coming off the turn. Building a good front end is super important! We've got a great article on the swift site. If anyone has anything to add to it, I can update the article anytime. When we work with guys at different tracks, front end building always seems to be the key to their cars working or not working. You can just throw long kingpins and wolfe springs on and expect everything to be smooth .... The parts were not designed for that amount of travel. bigdon18 09-06-2005, 11:35 PM jake and fellow Maverick pilots, i like to ask yall to keep phillip owen in your prayers tonight , he has been in the hospital this weekend and had to be ambulanced down to saint vincents and had a heart cath done,, he had a 90% blockage and a stent put in, he is at home tonight but isnt feeling to good, and plans on seeing the doctor again in the morning, so please keep him in your prayers. thanks BIGDON JPH Racing 09-07-2005, 01:45 PM Don: Please keep me posted on how Phil is doing. When you talk to him, please tell him I wish him well and a speedy recovery. bigdon18 09-07-2005, 10:04 PM Jake, Sandy (phillips wife) just called me and phillip is back in the hospital tonight in brunswick ga, memerial. they are wait for the blood work to come back tomorrow,, if ok he might come home , if not another heart cath to see if the stent had move or not working properly, and go from there. so keep'em in your prayers. BIGDON katf1sh 09-08-2005, 12:18 AM i consider phil a good friend and am very sad and suprised to hear about this on hobby talk! if he gets better i'm gonna send him straight back into the hospital! i will be making a few calls tommorow to get the 411..i had no idea he was in bad shape! i talked to him last week and all was good! thanks don for the information..is it possible don that you and phil could be out of a hospital for maybe one week together this year? lol katf1sh 09-12-2005, 07:05 PM OK PHIL OWEN REPORT! i called and talked to phil today. he called me fat and ugly, so i think he is up to speed again? and i think his eye sight is damn good too! it was good to hear his voice and even better to know i have a few clean races left until his return! things are back to normal. i hear rumor that tinman is going to aruba? and he wants to leave florida for good? me thinks the wife to be has him by the diff balls? JPH Racing 09-12-2005, 09:08 PM Katfish: Good news! Thank you for passing it on! Everyone else: Anyone been racing lately???? TeamGoodwrench 09-12-2005, 09:18 PM Katfish: Good news! Thank you for passing it on! Everyone else: Anyone been racing lately???? Just finished our last cap race outdoors for the year. Now I can finish building my new '05 Maverick for the rug -- can't wait! TinManSEP 09-13-2005, 08:18 AM OK PHIL OWEN REPORT! i called and talked to phil today. he called me fat and ugly, so i think he is up to speed again? and i think his eye sight is damn good too! it was good to hear his voice and even better to know i have a few clean races left until his return! things are back to normal. i hear rumor that tinman is going to aruba? and he wants to leave florida for good? me thinks the wife to be has him by the diff balls? I have to agree with Kat...rubbing lexan with Phil was always fun and hope he gets betters faster than his little r/c car runs. As to the second part of the quote, diff balls are really smooth these days, and the '05 OPC is finally running great!!! Aruba is a much needed vacation (not an excuse to miss the next FOCAR race) and leaving Florida (hmmmm, soooo many hurricane threats) would still be a tough choice to make. Jake...what's new with the little one? And what new with the long tall sidekick DW? See Ya, Tin man j21moss 09-13-2005, 01:30 PM well we just finished our outdoor season at the Major Taylor Velodrome with my Indycar.. finished 3rd so happy with results... anyway got to get my 05 ready for the rug season.. can't wait!!! see you guys around this winter.. The Dr!! WhirlinGraphics 09-13-2005, 08:18 PM Dr. Moss, I thought you were displaying an ugly yellow FORD at some car show this past weekend? chad  j21moss 09-13-2005, 09:02 PM nope.. changed my mind and went racing.. I'll go to car show this weekend CBear3 09-14-2005, 09:40 AM Well, we're breaking in the fresh new Ozite at Fastlane in KCMO, and trying to figure out a good track layout for our Grand Nationals race in October. So we basically run something brand new every week but the Maverick has adjusted great. I went from being tail-end Charlie to easily the fastest guy on our asphalt track and now I'm right in the thick of it since we've moved back indoors. I've got four big races on my schedule this winter and I'm really looking forward to showing everybody here in the Midwest what the Maverick is about  MK Race 09-14-2005, 12:57 PM Hey Chuck, I'm going to try to make over there in a couple weeks. My car worked pretty good the one time I ran it there. Turn 4 corner kinda scared me, so I only ran the 1 heat. Ran the KSG the other races, but the Maverick was faster. Mike CBear3 09-14-2005, 02:30 PM Yeah, Shane mentioned the Pre-Grand Nats Warm-Up race. I gotta figure out when everybody's coming so that I can start sweet talking the new wife to give me an unscheduled weekend at the track :) Tomorrow night we're gonna try for something Darlington-esque off of Phils suggestion. JPH Racing 09-15-2005, 02:28 PM Yes, carpet season is coming up quickly! We get to run on the rug next month, during the Region 12 Carpet Oval Championships in Stockton, CA. Anyone interested in flying in and hanging out with the Nor-Cal Maverick Crew for the weekend? TeamGoodwrench: It's not finished yet?? TinMan: What's Aruba? The little one is GREAT! Started smiling and making all kinds of happy noises a week ago ... It's awesome. Good news is, after 19 years, DW is doing the same thing! Dr: The '05 is still being built? Congrats on the velo results! Maybe you could post a pick of the yellow Ford? Cbear: That's what I like to hear! Tail ender, to front runner with a Maverick! Keep us posted. MK: Why was turn 4 so scary? TeamGoodwrench 09-15-2005, 02:33 PM Yes, carpet season is coming up quickly! Cbear: That's what I like to hear! Tail ender, to front runner with a Maverick! Keep us posted. MK: Why was turn 4 so scary? Heh heh... no Jake... perfection takes time !!! LOL Now that cap racing is done, I'll have time to finish it up. Hey -- anybody know what the part number is for the Losi titanium-nitride hinge pins that I've seen being used for front kingpins ?? They are gold color and just a tick shorter than the Wolfe long kingpins - but man are they smooooooth !! Thx ! JPH Racing 09-15-2005, 03:09 PM Perfection takes time? I can relate to that! Take your time and build 'er right! LOSA6082 1/8x1.05" Ti-Nitride LOSA6088 1/8x1.246" Ti-Nitride I ordered up some of the 6088's to take a look at. TeamGoodwrench 09-15-2005, 03:29 PM Perfection takes time? I can relate to that! Take your time and build 'er right! LOSA6082 1/8x1.05" Ti-Nitride LOSA6088 1/8x1.246" Ti-Nitride I ordered up some of the 6088's to take a look at. I think it's Losi part # 6089 -- they are 1/8 x 1.42" . The Wolfe long kingpins are 1.5". I felt the front end of a car with them this past weekend and wow -- velvet smooth even after a LOT of running. That Ti-Nitride seems to be some pretty tough stuff. davepull 09-15-2005, 03:50 PM Jake your the man question on the mini mav why are the cross braces stacked? burbs 09-15-2005, 04:10 PM dave.. less flex.. look how in tword the center the standoffs are.. the double stacked grafite is very stiff.. one pice would flex alot.. sorry im not jake, but thats what i gathered.. I started using the Losi kingpins last year.. i was at the LHS one day and they were out of standard pins.. so i said well find some that are as close as pos... &.00 yikes, but i got almost a full season of carpet out of them, they never bent, and did not wear out.. i had sold the car they were on, or i would have gotten more time out of them.. Make sure you polish them.. they dont polish up, but they have a very sticky grease on them.. the polishing takes that off, and cleans em up... Raptor_MS 09-15-2005, 04:11 PM I think it's Losi part # 6089 -- they are 1/8 x 1.42" . The Wolfe long kingpins are 1.5". I felt the front end of a car with them this past weekend and wow -- velvet smooth even after a LOT of running. That Ti-Nitride seems to be some pretty tough stuff. Thats the ones I have. They came from JPH, VERY SMOOTH! Kenny@RAPTOR MK Race 09-15-2005, 05:06 PM Turn 4??????? Well they were using 3" plastic pipe for the inside wall. The carpet is 60 ft wide and drivers stand isn't real high. Not saying that it should be higher, just made inside of turn 4 hard to judge from 60 ft. If you catch the pipe one of 2 things happen,(1) car bounces off real fast into outside wall,(2) car catches pipe and stops instantly. They have worked on things since I was there and made things better, it was just the 2nd week for the new carpet. Being a brand new car with a brand new body, I didn't want to tear it up. CBear3 09-15-2005, 05:22 PM Mike, I didn't know you painted your cars...YELLOW! J/K, hopefully for Grand Nats we'll have decided on a layout with enough time to make some ice so we'll only use pipes for the outside in select places. TeamGoodwrench 09-15-2005, 06:14 PM dave.. less flex.. look how in tword the center the standoffs are.. the double stacked grafite is very stiff.. one pice would flex alot.. sorry im not jake, but thats what i gathered.. Make sure you polish them.. they dont polish up, but they have a very sticky grease on them.. the polishing takes that off, and cleans em up... Hmmm... the guys I talked to said they did not polish them at all new -- just put them in the car straight out of the package. JPH Racing 09-15-2005, 07:18 PM TeamGW: Ok, the ASC9110, which most of us out here use, are like 1.25" ... So, I based my measurements of that. I can get the others just as easily! Dave: Burbs got it right! When running the stiffer side springs, the double stack get rid of any flex. Stiffer would be gold, red and up ... If running blues or lighter, you could use just one brace. Burbs: How's retirement treating you? Are you ready to race again yet? MK: Of yeah, new chassis, new car, boards sticking out, I understand now! No sense in tearing it up! burbs 09-16-2005, 12:15 AM Not Yet... Im want to race, but i cant muster up any ambition to do it.. I feel i want to but yet at the same time i dont.. JPH Racing 09-16-2005, 02:53 PM Burbs: No rush Bro, fgive it some time and wait until it feels right! Everyone: Great news from BSR Racing Tires, there will be an immediate price reduction on their tire line! Yes, a reduction in the price of their tires and JPHRacing.com is passing the savings on to you! 1/10 scale fronts (pink, xx pink, purples, xx purples, etc ...) are now $17.99 a pair! 1/10 scale rears (pink, xx pink, purples, xx purples, etc ...) are now $19.99 a pair! 1/12 scale front and rear (pink, xx pink, purples, xx purples, etc ...) are now $13.99 a pair! TeamGoodwrench 09-16-2005, 03:00 PM Not Yet... Im want to race, but i cant muster up any ambition to do it.. I feel i want to but yet at the same time i dont.. Don't wait too long Mike -- I need another Maverick car over at Tri-Clone to run with ! Jeff. pmsimkins 09-16-2005, 08:04 PM Bob has a Maverick. Mike you've got a car and some batteries and a radio right? So just show up and race! You can do it! (Spoken like Rob Schneider in the Water Boy) DICKJ45 09-17-2005, 11:44 AM Jake I talked to Steve last night and he didn't get your email. He will be emailing you a price list soon. Dick J David Butts 09-17-2005, 11:51 AM Howdy everyone! Jake, I'm thinking of bringing the 04 OPC out of retirement/mothballs and running a little more asphaltoval. Just when y'all thought it was quiet on here. I'm baaaaaccckk:devil: JPH Racing 09-18-2005, 12:08 PM Dick: Thank you!
