Hello Jake and Brad, What are the chances of the mini-Mav. getting the same side shock set-up as the 1/10th '05?

JPH Racing
04-28-2005, 10:50 AM
JBM: The Mini Mav is still a "new" car for us. We've really just gotten started with feedback and tuning. So, there will be a learning proccess with it and then (late this year) some prototyping of different parts and changes. I'd really like to have the same shock set up on the next version, it will take all new parts as the 1/10 shock mounts won't fit. Good idea though! Please keep the comments coming. Racer feedback is a big part of our product development.

Everyone: Speaking of feedback ... You are welcome to fax in your setup sheets from your favorite tracks. This way I'll do the typing! E-mail me for the fax #

Alright boys and girls, I picked up another lap this week, just in time for us to end our carpet season. I'm still about two laps off the track record, but I was only about half a lap off of where the best were for this particular night. It also propelled me up to finish second in our points series...if I'd had only figured the car out sooner we would have been in business. Since we're going out to the asphalt track for the summer now, I wanted to be sure I recorded all my setup info so I can go right back to it on rainy days or all the way into this fall.
The track is a flat medium length sucker, made of "fake" ozite. Runline is about 115' with somewhere between an 8' to 10' infield width. Wide enough ,if you don't fear nudging the wall, you can run a swoopy enough line to never truly go straight (but really only used when the car is too tight to rotate in the center).
Attached is the setup I ended the night with...(and when I was measuring I found some parameters that had worked their way into neverland ;) )

Well i placed the order today... My 05 has been next day shipped, and should be here tommorrow... Finnally .... I have one more final carpet race this weekend, then its cap tire time... I cant wait to see this car on caps...

The last few indoor races at this track, i was king in stock with my 04 opc....But my buddy corey heft took my record away the last time we ran..he got me by 1 second... He just won the roar nats 19t, so its cool to be that close to him... I hope to get the record back this sunday at our last state pints series race... ill let everyone know how it goes...TM Tires, Hefty cells,Team One motors, and the missing link, my 05.. ahh its going to be a good year...

Is there any pricing set for '05 H.E OPC ? I need the complete package not just the chassis. I don't have any L4 or 04 Maverick that I can use parts from. I do have an ADX slider though but I don't want to cannibalize it. I'm using the "red" car for now.
Thanx

I added some pics of DW's new '05 OPC in the photos section of the www.swiftracingproducts.com (http://www.swiftracingproducts.com) site.

Wow, I actually get to run oval cars for two days this weekend (weather permitting)! I'm trying to have 3 cars running (crazy? Who me?) to test and tune as much as possible. Might have to narrow it down to 2 though and be realistic. I'm just stoked to be racing outdoors on asphalt!

Hope everyone has a great weekend, and if you're racing ... good luck!

Hey jake.. yes and no.... Yes being i have the kit. and its almost built.. and no being the usual UPS crap... I come home on my lunch break to see if it came yet.. and there is a UPs sticker on the door... saying woops you just paid 25 bucks for next day shipping, and we'll see you monday.... it dint say that, but it said re deliver on monday... I have a note on the door saying sign and drop, and lucky for me the usual ups guy was gone.. anyway after work i drove around a bit, and was lucky enough to find the guy picking up packages at the ups store in town.. so i did get it... but not without a bit of frustration.. Dang UPS....

Anyhoo thanks again jake... Im glad you were able to get it out for me to have for this weekend... im happy with the build so far.. if it works as good as it looks, ill have my stock record back... he he well see...

I finally got my first 36 lap run at Hobby World lastnight. Actually ran two of them and turned my best ever fastest lap's too. The new 05 continues to drive extremely well on three decidedly different asphalt tracks with only very small tuning changes.

Gave the 04 OPC a quick spin on the track to get it ready for next weeks FOCARS race. I'm running the 05 in 19t but the 04 will get insane speed run duties. Cant have a big race on an equally big track without a speed run can ya? 6 cells fit it just right and boy was it cooking! Nothing like a car on the verge of liftoff to get the old heart pumping. That big track sure did go by fast at that speed and I didnt have the good motor or pack in it yet. The motor was older than some of the guys racing lastnight. Those old non-vented cans sure are quiet compared to the new hole'y ones. Kinda like a weeeeeeeee compared to a WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE! Get the point? Jake, I sure hope you have some spare chassis's. I may be needing one soon:rolleyes:

Wel i have some good news for my new 05... Today we had our last state series carpet race.. It was race number 4 of a 4 race point sereis... The doors opened at noon, and i got there about 1... I didnt want to get there to early until there was a groove laid down... So i got there and finished mounting my body up.. racing started at 3 and i got two runs in from 2:30 -3... the car was very good from the start.. I used a setup from my old car as a basline... The first qualifyer i was under geared... I made a mistake on that.. I did win the qualifier though...

The second qual i made a few changes and went two laps faster then the first. i was now TQ, by a hair... The tird qual i made a few more tweaks, and went out and ran 64 4:01.. which was TQ.. second place ran a 64 4:03,, so i top qualified by two seconds.... Now comes the main... i had the pole, and took the lead from the start and never looked back... So for my first day on the 05 i TQ'd and won... We had 15 guys show up for stock.. and it was a tight group...

When i first got there i had a few guys checking the 05 out... after the race day i had quite a few people drooling over it.. I think alot of people were very impressed, that i was able to throw the car down and it was fast... Jake from the buzz i got i wouldt be suprised if you sold 5 or so more kits soon.. LOL..
This car is hot, and i am very impressed... I wasnt able to get my track record back, but the track as a whole was slower then norm... everyone was about 3-4 seconds of there normal runs..... we hadnt run for about 4 weeks, so the groove was gone...

So all in all. if you dont have one of these kits, i suggest you check it out and get one.. Im definatley sold... Thanks again jake, for getting the car out to me in time...It was worht the UPS hassle to get it LOL...

the track was a 135 runline tight ozite, with medium bite.. if anyone needs a baseline setup, the one i ran worked very well for me. and i think it will be a good starting point to go from... also i ran the slider.. i have the opc but will run the slider for a while yet..

Jake,

Sorry, but Tony S. needs a NEW car...after putting his '04 car with us "HACKS" in the sportsman mod class at HotRod Hobbies today...I don't think there's anything left of it.

I didn't see where he finished w/ the '05 car in his main class...but after he and I collided in the "mod" class, I know there wasn't much left of HIS car...(Mine suffered a broken axle...2 laps later that I'm sure got fractured during the altercation...)

SORRY TONY~ But, I know Jake will fix you right up :)

It may just be me but looking at the 05 OPC it looks like it would be hard to mount a RX anywhere on the left side of the car?? I run a X factor right now and everthing is on the tray.Which sucks with the Xfactor because the tray sags real bad with all that weight on it. The tray extender and the tray is just so thin I have to run ride height higher than I want to compinsate for the sag. The Car is fast but I don't like the sag in the tray it is getting on my nerves..lol( can't ya tell ) But I like having everything on the left side. SO! to my point. Is it just me or can the car hold everything on the left side ???

Ok, I take an extra day off, two days of racing, and now I'm playing catch up! I'll post up here, and then get to the e-mail later today. Thanks for your patience guys!

Burbs: Glad to hear you got the kit, even if you had to chase UPS all over town! I hate when they post those little notes about being back Monday, when someone has paid a bunch for overnight shipping ...

Mr. Butts: Congrats on the 36 lapper!!! I'll get a care package ready for you after your speed run! Have fun and try not to flip it down the back straight .... "Houston, we have a problem".

TNoval: Sent you a response this morning. DW runs a sway-bar everywhere. He just likes it for the extar tuning option. I usually run the same chassis and don't run a bar. It's personal preferance.

Yoke: Take it easy on these guys ... Karts lead to bruised ribs! How many guys usually go? Are they shifter karts??

Tinman: Sorry to hear about the rainout! We had a great time racing this weekend. Two days on the track helps and hurts at the same time ... I'm tired! I TQ'ed and won the 19 Turn class. And, DW won the Modified class ... That kid was on FIRE in the main! Awesome run from ol' DW! DW was running the new '05 OPC, first time out with it.

Burbs: Congrats on the TQ and Win! That's GREAT! Please be sure to e-mail me the setup and results for the website. Thank you!

Swtour: Well, I'll expect a call from Tony today or tomorrow ... Sometimes racing is like that, a little on the rough side! Hotrod can be unforgiving at times, concrete walls and all ... I hope the Tour race was a good one though!

Chris: I mounted the rx on the left side of the shock mount. I'll post pics in a day or two. It could be mounted in front of the pack, using shoe-goo instead of tape. There's room, you just have to get creative in sticking it down! For the x-factor, try using two tray adapters? Just double them up, it might be a fix ...

Thanks Jake I thought of that then I thought that looks like poop so I took it off. If I knew then what I know now hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm. OPC will be ordered soon hopefully. I got a chance to look the '05 car close up this weekend. It is an excellant piece.Great attention to detail in the design and great machine work on both the graphite and aluminum pcs.The pictures on the website do not do it justice.

Chris take a look of the pics of my OPC on the website. Its under DW's OPC and look at my electronics. Its fits just fine with the reciver infront of the cells.

OPC update: I got to run the 05 OPC for the first time this weekend. It was a big 2 day club race, over 120 entries.

The format was 3 qual on saturday and 2 and a main on sunday. I didnt get to race on saturday due do having to work to let the boss go racing. So I only got less then half of the track time that everyone else had going into the mains on sunday. Not only did I put the new car into the winners circle by over a lap but I broke the TQ that was set on saturday when the track was faster by a lap. No one else on sunday was able to break any of saturdays TQ's that I know of. It was a slower track on sunday.

It was flat out rippin fast. I made a total of 3 changes the whole day from my starting setup that happened to be a total guess.

Cant wait to get some more time on this car and see what I can do. Yet another awsome product from the Swift production shop.

Jake,

HOTROD's...Unforgiving, Uh YEAH~, but it's better than it use to be... Jimmy Babcock now owns it, and he put down Road Rails along the concrete wall, so we have something a little SOFTER to hit first. Now, if we could just get them laying the right way..so they don't stick up and tear the car in 1/2.

This weekends race was just a Club Race/ Warm-up race for the "TOURS" visit on May 21...

42 Oval Entries for the warm up...hopefully we'll top 60 for the race. (The RCXpo is the same weekend)

Butts you crack me up. Everyone kept telling me it was too much motor for the track untill they saw me lay it down and actually finish 4min. It was a psycho motor.

I was just happy that the testing went good and the car was just stupid fast in the corners and really effecient. Without that good of a car I would have looked like a clown out there with that much power.

When the 3800's are out 5 turns will be the norm. Damn I love mod, especially when the cars working.

T.N.
05-03-2005, 06:31 PM
I know it's not as impressive as DW and Jake's win at the 2-day, but I took my '05 to third in 19turn. I battled horsepower problems on Saturday, which DW fixed Sat. night as I bbq'd for him and other Mav drivers.

But, because Sun. was slower, I couldn't make up for the poor runs on Sat. Besides George and Jake, I now had the faster car than everyone else, but it didn't matter, I'd have to start in the back (7 out of 8) for the main. I knew the car was fast, but it was still too touchy for me to get comfortable, so after relaxing, I took out the rear steer and added a hint of tweak. After that, the car was stable and fast enough to run up to 3 after 5 laps! Then a wreck happened that took some pressure off and it let me cruise to a podium finish.

So far, that's 3 podiums out of 4 races witht the new '05 in my first year in Spec.

Like I said, it's not as exciting as Julio, Jake, and DW's accomplishments, but I'm still pretty happy!!!

Hey Jake, about the PDF file stuff. I really have no idea of a "good" way to convert files to it. At work here we've got Acrobat distiller which allows you to "print" and then select the distiller as the printer and it'll create a pdf file. If you want me to make a few pdf's for you it'd be no problem, but the package I saw on adobe's sight was for commercial use (bookoo bucks).

Edit: Ah ha! I've found an easier way Create Adobe PDF Online (http://createpdf.adobe.com/) its still a pay service and not exactly the cheapest. Regardless is you only have a few things you'd like turned into pdf's (say the manuals and setup sheets) I'd be more than happy to do them myself. You can email them to my screen name here @ that dreaded aol (written cryptically to avoid spam  )
