Any setup help welcomed Kevin jbm38 04-21-2005, 10:33 AM Hello pepe 04-21-2005, 11:32 AM Wildman, Get in touch with the guys at the track they can get you going,I think most of the guys up there run HD's and KSG's,but they will be able to get you going in the right direction, see ya there. JPH Racing 04-22-2005, 10:36 AM Katfish: I'm glad to be a long distance part of your series! Congrats on race #1 being a success! Yes, the winner of the raffle does sounds familiar .... Burbs: We're looking forward to you capped tire report as well! Big Dave: Good luck this weekend! Let us know how you guys end up. Wildman: Nothing to report as of yet. Like Pepe said, start with what every one else is running, and tune from there. If you can get a starting setup, we can help get the car faster after you post it. But, I'm sure you knew that, because I know you have your Maverick up to speed and are doing really well with it now. jbm: Hello! Pepe: Good advice! JPH Racing 04-22-2005, 11:24 PM I got a Nats report from Brad tonight: After the first round of qualifying, he's sitting 3rd overall. 3 heats to go on Saturday, we'll see what happens but things are looking good right now and he's real happy with the car. rccarmaverick 04-22-2005, 11:59 PM Is there a link to see the results each day? j21moss 04-23-2005, 09:20 AM great job Brad!!! JPH Racing 04-23-2005, 10:50 AM GM: Click on "Oval Racing Events", then the "2005 Carpet Oval Nats" thread. Unfortunately, you'll have to wade through a bunch of BS about stock motors to find what little info there is on the actual race ... But, there's some there. Hopefully more good news after tonight! TnOvalRacer 04-23-2005, 02:17 PM 05' H.E. OPC.......any word on it's release yet? Any picture ? I'm an avid fan of Brad...still owns several ADX. Whats the website for Swift ? Stagger2 04-23-2005, 03:26 PM http://www.swiftracingproducts.com/ Chad O JPH Racing 04-23-2005, 03:41 PM TnOval: Man, now you've done it! If Brad finds out he's got a fan club, we're all in trouble! I'm assembling an '05 OPC right now (taking a break) and should have it done tonight (I hope). I'll post pics and pricing on the site asap! Stagger: Thanks for the quick url post! TnOvalRacer 04-23-2005, 03:54 PM Ok...cool. Just curious about OPC....maybe I'll switch my ride from the red car to H.E. OPC. Keep us posted !!!!!!!!!!!! Thanx Stagger2 04-23-2005, 04:05 PM Thanks JPH cant wait for the pics. All I have to do is decide between a new charger or new car.................big problem this is. Chad O jhseckinger 04-23-2005, 05:49 PM  Stagger .. Any good charger will do ...but..ya got to have a good car.. j21moss 04-23-2005, 06:24 PM wooooo!!!! nobody can be a bigger fan of Brad than me!!! I've been around him since 1989.. so there  j/k Brad has kept me in touch about the new OPC chassis.. He's trying very hard to get me in the 05...I'll probably wait and see when the OPC comes out and start fresh from there..so I'll just keep running my ADX slider and my ADX II... so Brad!!! GO Get'em at Nationals!! Peace out!!! The Doctor!! Stagger2 04-24-2005, 12:27 AM Pics are up. That makes my choice even easier. New 05 OPC all the way. Chad O JPH Racing 04-24-2005, 12:31 AM Chad: Wow, I hope you're as quick on the track as you are on the computer! Like Chad says, there are a few OPC pics up on the website. I'll update it again on Monday, as I finish building the car. If you should have any questions, or feedback, please post up! Stagger2 04-24-2005, 07:36 AM Sorry. Just really board, wife was at work, kids in bed, yard mowed, race over and can't race, myself, till Sunday. The net is all I got man.................................lol Chad O David Butts 04-24-2005, 12:00 PM Gosh darn it(thats souhternspeak for some really bad words) Jake! Now you've done it. That 05 OPC is just what I need. I cant afford the gas to get to work to be able to support this hobby/addiction and along comes another I gotta have it chassis, I know of several locals that will want one asap. Hmm? Do I need a back up car for my back up car now? Thats a lot of backing up. Beep beep beep beep. Ok. How thick is it? Is it also the same wheel base as the slider and are all the other parts compatible? And the burning question(no pun intended)is that battery brace fiberglass or carbon fiber? Since carbon fiber is conductive you know where I'm going with this. Glitch glitch crash! JPH Racing 04-24-2005, 02:51 PM Mr. Butts: Gotta have it! Ok, 2.5mm chassis. All other '05 parts bolt right to it. I'll have pricing on the JPH site as soon as my web guy explains what's wrong with his program (frustrating!). In the mean time, guys e-mail me and I'll get you the JPH selling price for the chassis and/or an OPC conversion kit. The Battery Brace is made of 3mm black G-10. You are correct Mr. Butts, carbon would not have been a good choice for this part. burbs 04-24-2005, 07:54 PM CONGRATS TO BRAD ON HIS A MAIN PODIUM FINISH AT CARPET NATS IN 19T... Corey Heft 61 4:03 Kevin Koback 60 4:00 Brad Hayes 60 4:01 Steve Salvas 60 4:03 Dave Zipp 59 4:00 TJ Domark 59 4:01 Dusty Kemp 59 4:02 Hays Reeling Jr. 57 4:01 Eli Ezro 57 4:03 Jamie Hanson 16 1:01 swtour 04-25-2005, 01:02 AM Saw my FIRST '05 MAVERICK this weekend and I have to say JAKE and BRAD..."WOW" Tony Staples was kind enough to let me get REALLY close to his NEW ride Saturday at our "TOUR" race in Camarillo. What DETAIL, SMOOTHNESS, did I mention DETAIL...well it's worth mentioning more than ONCE, SWEET. IF it were in the budget for NEW cars in '05, I'd have to have 4 of them. (Just because I like 2 of everything I run, PLUS having my 13yr old SON racing now...we have to have the SAME STUFF) (I quietly hope NOBODY else in the TOUR series gets one of these...cause it's hard enough to keep my L4's fast already...) Chris Garland 04-25-2005, 07:54 AM With the 05 OPC will it have to use the Mav pod or will me L4 pod work like the older Mavs. Any 50% deals off the 04 OPC yet..lol yokman 04-25-2005, 08:28 AM i'd like to give brad hays a big thanks for putting up with me this weekend and helping me keep going.you worked hard all weekend and you deserve your podium finnish.brad was in the hunt for tq but the top 6 guys were just tenths apart.if any of you guys are needing help on carpet track, then i would hit him up for help as i have seen him throw every thing from his pit box to the kitchen sink at his 05.i think he's got that car figured out now.anyway good job brad. BHayes 04-25-2005, 09:56 AM Well as you guys see, I finsihed 3rd. The car was very fast all weekend. Qualifying was very tight. I'll be getting my setup details to Jake so he can post them on the web site. Also, I was running a prototype wing that Jake is working on. It is very cool. Yokman, it was good pitting with you, even though you are running that other car!!! Jake, Thanks for all the help. Moss, now that the '05 has proven itself at the national level, are you finally going to order one!!! Big Dave, It was good to meet you. Hope you had a good time, and I hope to see you around at some more races. David Butts 04-25-2005, 10:00 AM Wow! (Theres that word again?) Good job at the nats Brad. That should get the Maverick name more recognition now since the rest of us slackers arent doing great things with it. Yet! How about posting up your account of what went on at the nats. Lots of negative stuff on another thread that I'm sure cant all be true. How about your pespective and what worked to get you into the "A" main. CBear3 04-25-2005, 12:46 PM Great Job Brad!! After about a six weeks I'm finally making headway with my 05. The guys kept asking why I hadn't gone back to the old red car and I told them the Mav had more potential, as soon as I could get it sorted out. Well, last week I turned in my first 70 lap performance, and it wasn't really even that clean. Still about two laps off the record pace (I like my TC better somedays, the extra two cells give you that extra grunt to make up for not being silky smooth) but we're gaining ground. JPH Racing 04-25-2005, 01:37 PM Burbs: Thank you for posting up those results! Joe: Thank you for the nice review of our chassis! Sometimes ya just gotta see one in person, the pics don't always show it all. Also, glad to hear the series is doing well again this year. Please keep me informed on the races, DW and I would like to get down run one this season. Chris: the '05 chassis, both the OPC and Slider, only work with the '05 pod. The rear shock geometry is just too different and advanced for the L4 pod .... Shoot me an e-mail on the '04. Jeremy: Thank you for the post. I know we haven't seen much of you since the switch, glad to hear Brad was able to lend a hand in getting your new ride up to speed. Jason wasn't there to help you?? Brad: Nice job again! Cbear: Please send me an e-mail with your basic setup, what the track is like, and what you need the car to do differently. Let's see if we can figure out something to gain those two laps! Mr. Butts: I know Brad will post up soon, but here's some info from an e-mail he sent me this morning ... Quotes from Brad: The race was run very well, there was a small delay before the start of the mains with a computer problem, but that only lasted about 15 minutes. Other than that, the races went off without any problems. Overall, the vibe was very positive. There were no ROAR related issues, and I did not even here many complaints about the MVP handout motors for stock. David Lee and Kenny B from ROAR were on hand all weekend. And Kenny Holmes from the Snowbirds, ran the races. Josh Cyrul's dad ran tech, and everything went off very smoothly. The track was nice, it was a little bumpy in turns 3 & 4, but not too bad. It was smaller than the Snowbirds track, but it was a fun track to race on. It is located in an older shopping mall. The mall was pretty dead, there were more vacant stores than there were occupied ones. But it made it nice, because you could get away from the track and walk down to the food court. You were not just cooped up in the pits all weekend long. The racing was very clean in all of the qualifiers. Things were a little rougher in the mains, but that is to be expected. They did a cool thing on Friday, they ran a final practice round, which was run just like a round of heat races. So you ran on the clock, and you were with the guys that were going to be in your heat. That gave everyone a good chance to feel out who was fast, and who to be careful with in the heats. In my heat, there were two of us who were pretty fast (me and Jamie Hansen), and the others were a little off the pace. So there was a lot of passing and traffic, but I never had any incidents in any of the heats. Everyone was very courteous. After two rounds, they shuffled, and then I was in the fast heat. As for my race...like I told you before, I had been stiffening up the car to keep it free when the bite increased. By Saturday, I had made it too stiff, and it was causing problems over the bumps in turns 3&4. So after the last qualifier on Saturday, I stayed and practiced, and practiced, and practiced, trying to get the car softened back up for the bumps, but free so that it would turn through the center of the corner. I ended up softening the side shocks back up, going to a slightly harder LF tire, and putting in some rear steer. That really made the car cut through the center of the corner better. Looking back on it, I wish I would have softened the rear up even more. I was still having a problem over the bumps on occasion. If I did not hit the line just right, then the car would get a little loose over the bumps. TQ ended up being TJ Domark with 62 laps. He was the only one to run 62. Then 2nd through 8th or 9th all had 61 laps. I think the slowest guy in the A had a fast 60. TJ was running an Orion based motor from Truespeed. He runs for Custom Works/Truespeed, and had Jim Deiter tuning his motors. But his car was very good also. In the heats, the only guys to run any 3.7 second laps were TJ, Kevin Koback, and myself. So I was fast...just not as consistent as TJ. Some of that was because of having the car too stiff for the bumps. Chris Garland 04-25-2005, 01:47 PM Email sent yokman 04-25-2005, 04:30 PM jake-yeah jason and dave were there running 1/12 scale.i got there late and had to share a table with brad.had some bad glitching going on and broke a time or two and brad helped me out with some parts and even lended me one of his sticks to use.brad and the other mav drivers that i know are good kool guys,i enjoy racing with them and cant wait til next season to do it agian. Jamie Hanson 04-25-2005, 05:55 PM Brad, It was good to get a chance to talk with you this weekend. You are a standup guy. Sorry about taking your money though!. LoL. I can say Brad and his 05 were both awesome this weekend. I do not know how many races he and I were nose to tail for the whole race. It was a lot of fun. It was a hard track to get set up for. I too like Brad had issues with the bumps in 3 & 4. In the main Brad was a rocket. It is too bad the main was not a very clean race. I went out after someone spun and I was in the wrong place at that time. Brad had a sure shot at winning the race. Congrats to Brad and I hope all of you with a Mav 05 have as much fun with it as Brad has had. Brad, quick question. I had a crash course in tires with Steve Salvas this weekend. You mentioned you put a harder LF tire on and that it made the car cut in the turns better. I thought that should make a car push more......? I normally run greens or whites on the LF. If I put a pink on, it turns too much. Can you explain the LF deal to me? BHayes 04-25-2005, 07:03 PM Jamie, you are correct, just the harder LF would make the car push. But I made several orther changes along with the harder LF tire. I had been running a BSR pearl LF (which is slightly softer than a white). I switched to a white LF, because the car was turning in to the corner too hard with the pearl, especially as the weekend progressed. So I put the harder LF on to take steering away. Then with the white LF, I added some rear steer to the car, which helped the car to cut through the center. But it was still not overly aggressive on entry like the pearl LF. Sorry about the confusion, from that earlier post, it looks like I only changed the LF tire. But it was really the rear steer that helped the car cut in the middle of the corners in the main. And I want a poker re-match at the next race!!!! It was good talking to your dad this weekend too. You two are both class acts. I wish you would have had better luck in the main. It was good fun running so close with you in all of the heats. BHayes 04-25-2005, 07:04 PM Hey guys, I am going to send my complete setup details from the nats to Jake so he can post them on the web site. If anyone has specific questions, feel free to post them here. Brad JPH Racing 04-25-2005, 11:51 PM Jamie: Brad mentioned a poker game or two ... But he didn't mention whether he won or lost. Thanks for clearing that up! Everyone: I added some pics of Brad's Nats Car on the site. Also, some pics of Travis's and Brian's Mini Mavs. And, a new article on converting an HPI shock to a long center shock. DJ_Skribble 04-26-2005, 04:50 AM Brad, I seen pics of your car on website. That "extended" center shock, what does that actually accomplish vs "standard"? BHayes 04-26-2005, 07:46 AM DJ Skribble, the main reason I like the longer center shock is that it keeps the shock angle more consistent as the suspension compresses. This just helps keep the spring rate more linear. If you run the shock real short, it will be softer initially, but become progressively stiffer as it compresses (this is assuming the shock is mounted somehwat low at the front). That could be an advantage on certain tracks, but generally, I like the more linear feel. oldguy 04-26-2005, 10:53 AM Hey Jake and guys, your '05 is a first rate car and Brad Hayes is one outstanding spokesperson for the car and for RC racing in general. I had a chance to closly look over the '05 and talk with Brad at Toledo over the weekend. I was very impressed with what I saw and observed. My son Jamie, driving a Leading Edge car raced tightly with Brad all weekend and it was truly refreshing and exciting to see these two young men competing fairly on the track and enjoying good friendships with RC guys off the track. I've watched a lot of oval racing, and I am sure that either one of these guys could have left the nats as the 19T champion. In my book, they both represented themselves, their teams, and their cars proudly and in a first class way. The ROAR carpet oval nats in Toledo was a great event, and I am glad that I had a chance to be there. Kudos to all the participants and to the event champions. BHayes 04-26-2005, 03:44 PM oldguy, thanks for the kind words. It was nice talking to you this weekend. And it is always good to race with Jamie and the rest of the LE crew. CBear3 04-27-2005, 02:01 AM Alright, pictures are up @ CK Racing (http://www.ck-racing.com) Under the R/C section... JPH Racing 04-27-2005, 11:37 PM Mr. Hanson: Thank you for the compliments. I look forward to meeting Jamie and yourself at a future race. cbear: Nice website! That's a ton of good looking bodies. Thanks for posting up your Maverick picks on the site too, looks great! vBulletin® v3.8.7, Copyright ©2000-2012, vBulletin Solutions, Inc.
