I believe you can only mount the shocks 1 way, look at the "swiftracingproducts.com" site and look under the photo section, checkout the photos of EW'S car, they arel mounted correctly.

Roadsplat
02-10-2005, 01:02 AM
From the picture it looks like the the shock could be mounted on etiher side. In the picture the left hand shock is on the front side of the mount and the right side is on the back ...I'm just wondering if it matters to the way the shocks perform if they were mounted just the opposite.
As of yet I do not have the new 05 car but I have a KSG and was thinking of making a top plate that would allow the shocks to have the 3 mounting points in line like it is on the Maverick. The outside shock mounting points mount very similar on the KSG like they do on the Maverick ...just have to but the ball studs on opposite sides. Making the top plate with the inner ball studs in line with eachother would be pretty easy.
Wondering if this shock geometry would improve the already good cornering of the KSG.

Thinking maybe the leverage would change depending which side shock was in the most forward hole of the top plate.... That's why I'm wondering if it makes a difference.

Thanks

On the '05 Maverick, they canonly be mounted one way, due to the design of the side mounts and the locations of the body mounts. We put the left shock in front, so that the left body mount could be moved forward, further away form the motor.

But in general, for the function of the shocks, it does not matter which one is in front and which one is in back.

yokman, I am thinking about going to that race on the 26th. I may be going with Tony Fox. Not totally sure yet. If not, I'll see if Jaosn still needs a ride.

If I go, I'll plan to run 19 turn.

6 cell stock....it has been several years since I ran that. But I am sure I'll be able to help you get it dialed in at the track.

Roadsplat, I am glad to help out.

Just want to let the Maverick family know that I talked to jake and he was watching as DW was hitting the drivers stand. The 1/12 scale seems to be working very well as I beleive he is in the top 10 for spec 19. The 05's are also keeping up with the pace in spec and in mod. Jake sayes that the top 5 or 6 cars in the current spec 19 standings are actually 6 cell mod times that for some reason have made their way into the wrong class.there is no way 3.6's are spec times. That means that jake is in the top 20 for spec and Dave is somewhere around 21 in expert mod. Not bad if you ask me!! they have a race around 8pm eastern time so go to the snowbirds site and see if you guys can spot one of the boys. Jake also sayed that he will try to post up in the next few days if he gets the chance. good luck to all of the crew, keep up the good work!!!!

Wow, I'm so tired I don't even know where to start! What an awesome week of racing! The Snowbirds was a real treat this year. The track was the best yet. Still a challenge to dial into, as it's got the most bite of any track you'll ever run on .... Mike Boylan and the whole crew did a great job again this year!

The Maverick Group had a blast. Right from the get-go, it was like DW and I were there last week .... Everyone picked up right where it left off the year before. Joking, laughing, bench racing and having fun.

As with every year, I met more nice people, put faces to names, helped racers no matter what chassis they were on ... It's just such a great race to hang out at. This year seemed more laid back too, not as hectic as it has been before.

Sorry about no updates through out the week. DW brought his laptop, but didn't have any software in it that would connect to the internet!

I'll post up more tomorrow morning. I'm just too beat up today ... But, I do want to clear up this: I won the D main in 1/10 scale, not an overall win in the class. 4th in the A with the Mini Mav!

Thanks again to the Maverick Crew (and those considered Maverick Crew, even if you run something else. Ronnie and Rich) for making the race so much fun.

yeah i woke up out of my fog today around 2 pm!

jake and david are a class act! jake even wrenched on a old adx car tony runs. i think he helped just about everyone in our room more than once!lol the car i had last year would be flipping and flopping in the corners until the cows came home! this year the car was good, flat in the corners and a nut behind the wheel. i can't say anything bad about the 05 ride...i can say i do not belong in the expert class, those 20 or so experts can realy make a car fly! jakes 1/12 scale car was dialed from the start!

a huge thanks to jake and david for blending well with others, lol. we had a blast and the memories of the 2005 birds will last us all a year, lol. next up is some outdoor racing,i am excited to see how the 05 does under the sun. thanks again bill

Ah the smell of paragon lingers on. And on and on and on and on, The 05 birds are now just history, Hmm? If I dont touch my car until next year do you think it will still work as good as it did?

My 04 OPC worked better than any other car I've ever run on carpet(5 times total, 2 now with this car)and it was my fault that I didnt have a podium finish in the C main 19t sportsman. I was so looking forward to the post race interview and I had my speil about how much my new shirt and decals helped me out all planned.

Oh well so be it as it may(what does that mean?) I did almost succeed in one of my goals. No, I may not have won my main or class at the 05 Birds but I didnt break a thing(except for the trophy girls hearts as they really wanted me)and I brought home an almost scratch free body after several 10 car practice sessions on wednesday, The club races on thursday and 3 qualifying heats that were less than clean for some but almost squeaky for me.

I even managed to get all those laps in without once pulling my now Patented single car clear track outside back straight wall smack and roof slide down the entire straight. Oh well I'll break it in at my home track next race because a 20 foot wide lanes track really is just to big to not wreck on and if you must wreck, Wreck big.

See ya next year Maverick dudes!

Katfish: Blending well with others? Wow, next time I'll speak up more and anti-blend! I won't hold back!! Honestly though, the group out there is very fun to hang with. A great bunch of guys, no matter what chassis they run, it's great to get together, talk racing, help each other and clown around. Wish I could make it out there more often.

Hey, I was telling someone about my 2nd round of qualifying with the 1/12 scale, what was the wreck ratio again, I forgot?

Mr Butts: I was a little disappointed that you didn't get a chance to thank your shirt and decal sponsor ... Well, maybe next year you'll be in the A-Main! Your car was really good! Unofficially turn marshaling the back straight with you was funny! We should have kept score.

James: Keep tuning it, everything will fall into place soon enough. Nice to see you again this year!

Davepull: You know what I would suggest! Thanks for the ride to the Race Rock! And, it was nice to put a face to the on-line name!

Yokeman: Sonny sure is a nice guy! Fast too! I was nervous making the A with such great drivers, and I'm glad I held my own and didn't make any bone head mistakes!

BHayes: Wish you would have been there! DW and I are talking about the Nats, are you still thinking about it??

Jason: Nice to have met you too! It's always great to meet people, it's one of the best things about a really big race. The only bummer about the Snowbirds and meeting people, is I'm boring when I'm dead tired! Maybe we'll catch up again at the Nats and have more time to chat?

if i can collect some more scratch i'm going to get a mini mav asap....watching you and bean run in the A made me jealous! plus ronny is going to buy one as well! next year it's sportsman 19 turn and 12th 19 turn for me! have you broken the news to your wife about ginger jake? what happens at the birds stays at the birds for me anyways...i wont tell anyone if that helps? ahhaahhhhhhhhh c'mon 2006

I hope all of you guys make it to the nats.

Mr Butts: That's right, you did win! You got more style points from that Russian judge. Next year maybe I'll try loosening up with a six pack too ... I didn't have the flexibility you had!

Hastings: Get a group together and attend! This is shaping up to be a very good event. Check out the Halo Hobbies website (I don't have the url, sorry), and there may be a thread started in the roar section of hobbytalk?

Travymoto: A 19 year old from California w/o a fake ID? I guess it could happen??

So, tell me Maverick racers, what did you learn at this year's Snowbirds race? Any new tricks or tips? Anything for tuning or set-ups? Anything to do with "big race" racing in general? Seems awful quiet around here concerning the 'Birds. Win, loose, or draw, there's always something to learn from each race ...

sorry man I don't run a Maverick car, but

Yes i learned something .......
gear the motor as high as possible (no flames) and who cares how hottttttt it is when it comes off the track.

I ran my best run with a gear i mistaken the motor I thought was at 26 deg. timing but was at 34 deg. timing.
that was my 57 4:01 qualifing me into the B main in 19 turn Expert.

talking to some of the guys who made the A main they said gear it high and who cares how hot the motor is your not going to run it again after this weekend.

thats what i learned and will take with me to the next big race. (if not a hand out motor race then i may not gear as high)

thanks

02-20-2005, 01:28 PM
Jason: Funny thing about the gearing of those 19 turn ultrabirds .... I talked to a lot of people, got a lot of opinions, and was more confused than when I started! I used 124/45/2.20 with 36 degrees timing, and the motor felt great.

If I had more practice time, I would have liked to try more gear. I tried less gear, but didn't like it. I think the ratios can be wide spread for everyone, and it all comes down to how well the chassis is getting through the turns. The freer it is, poor on the gearing.

Hey, did you run wide open the whole run? Or were you blipping the throttle in the turns?

I learned a few things at the 'Birds ... one of which is to think outside the box and keep an open mind. DW and I wanted to try some tires on his mod car, but after asking what everyone else was running, we stayed conservative. Should have made the change. Instead of following the group, we should have done what was needed for ourselves.

Also, pay attention to the track and how it's changing. It should come as a surprise to no one that the track started out free, and slowly had more and more bite as the week went on. So cars that did 57 laps in the club race, were doing 55/56 the next day. Looking back, this caught some of the Maverick guys by surprise. But, it shouldn't have. The track naturally slows the cars down, and the racer has to retune to find the speed again. Same thing every year. Must be the lack of sleep, because after 4 years of attending the 'Birds, this light finally clicked on for me this year!

Just shows, there's always plenty to learn and relearn, no matter how long you've been doing this! that's what I really like about a weeks worth of racing. Man, I'm looking forward to the Nationals!
