View Full Version : The MAVERICK OVAL CHASSIS Thread
David Butts 01-29-2005, 09:01 AM Butts, you'll find Jake down there on manufacturer's row with all the other big shots !:) ...... he can't hide......... we'll find him ......... lol.
Wow, one more full week of work then off to the birds ....hooooray !
Morning Rich, I was wondering if he may have a better space this year since last year he was almost to the end of that dark corridor where many feared to tread?
He did have that nifty(did I just use nifty?)door that opened on to the back stretch. I bet that was a cool vantage point when the 6 cell pro mod oval cars were running. Weeeeeee
Al Spina Fan 01-29-2005, 11:45 AM Dave,
I have some Maverick stickers for you.
davepull 01-30-2005, 01:39 PM Katfish & Phil How did the new cars run?????
smokefan 01-30-2005, 03:41 PM Jake I got to see the 05 for the first time last night at New Castle. Mr Hayes had his there. All I can say is WOW!!!!! The car looks really sweet!!! I am new to pan cars but I will say that from some of the other cars I have seen you and Brad have really done a great job. BTW Brad Thanks again for your help I really appreciate it.
katf1sh 01-30-2005, 04:10 PM well phil and i braved the ice storm and headed to south carolina.
the weather kept most of the racers home but that just allowed us to have 10 hours of open practice! just what the doctor ordered!
i was lucky enough to have a very good set-up on the car i was off on the tire combo first time on the track though. donny logan the local hot shoe also runs bsr tires so he got me dialed in second battery pack. after that i could make changes to the car and feel them on the track. last time on the track with a ultra bird motor i was turning 3.7's and 3.8's those times are not very far off the realy fast boys like honeycut and logan. phil started out the day with his pod off-set but switched over to the off-set t-plate and was up to speed by the days end. needless to say we were both very happy campers, lol.
we both think this car in the months ahead will be the best car jake has had to date. our next test with the car will be outdoors after the birds. oh and i used a finish line med t-plate and phil ran a .75 associated glass plate. both plates worked well.
jake and brad a job well done! i think in the months ahead were going to be find some set-ups that work well indoor and out. see you guys in orlando!
jflack 01-30-2005, 11:33 PM I love this 05' Mave already. First time out, faster than the 04, TQ and A-main win and reset the fast lap record. It was on rails all night! Its alot different than anything I've built or driven. Still a ton to learn about the car. I was faster than the track record , just couldn't get a clean run. It will fall next week. Good job guys.
CBear3 01-31-2005, 01:12 PM Saw an 05 for the first time @ Fastlane Raceway in the hands of Kevin Perry. All the right adjustments. Didn't get to see it on track, but I get the feeling that I know what my next pan car will be...shame I didn't decide in enough time to get one sorted for the birds.
yokman 01-31-2005, 04:08 PM Bhays-how did the car treat you this past weekend?are you going to be there this weekend?
jake- how did your 05 treat you this weekend?
BHayes 01-31-2005, 04:38 PM yokman,
The car was very good. Ran 63 4:01...was fast enough to run 64 in the second qualifer, but I screwed it up by getting tangled up with Dusty. I tightened the car up too much in the main, and could only manage a 4th place finish, but still ran 63. So the car was real good, and I think with a front spring change it will be even better.
I am still playing with different setups to see what the car likes, and it is already way fast. It showed that it was fast enough to run with Dusty and Malicoat. So once I quite messing around with the setups, it should be able to battle up front consistently.
BA Motorsports 01-31-2005, 07:28 PM Anyone looking at the '05 MAVERICK H.E. car, I would highly recommend getting one, I got mine built over this past weekend and it is a well designed nice quality piece of work, anyone with any experience in pan oval cars will have no problem building this car, the assembly instructions are clear and to the point and the tuning tips are very helpful. I also would like to say that Jake stands behind his cars and is very responsive to any questions you may have, he even sent me an e mail as a follow up on the progress of the car I was building, you will not get that kind of support any where else, thanks Jake.
katf1sh 01-31-2005, 07:33 PM anyone with any experience in pan oval cars will have no problem building this car, the assembly instructions are clear and to the point and the tuning tips are very helpful.
lies all lies i tell ya!
BA Motorsports 01-31-2005, 08:10 PM katf1sh, let me put it another way, anyone with any brains!
BMCALLISTER01 01-31-2005, 08:16 PM Im with ya katfish, I mounted the rear shocks in the inner position on the towers, Instead of the right side shock mounted on the outer holes of the tower. This was giving me very little side to side movement.. No wonder it took me so long to get the shocks lengths to match up..lol Oh well, that what you get when in a hurry and not reading directions. Car looks great and cant wait to try it again this friday. But i did win its first race...so not bad for a incorrect shock setup..
katf1sh 01-31-2005, 09:16 PM funny stuff! i told jake i only read pictures!
tony 13 01-31-2005, 09:27 PM I have to say that the car is rockin. I had the pleasure to run mine with jake and the gang a week ago and I was very, very pleased with the car. It is so responsive to tuning and it is fast right out of the box. I cant wait to run it again on the carpet and on the pavement.
JPH Racing 02-01-2005, 05:58 PM To all: Yes, we'll be down in the hall, just outside the main MFG room. It's quieter there. Don;t let the slightly darker vibe scare you off ... And, if there's a bunch of guys standing around laughing and joking, please don't be bashful about pushing your way through and saying hello!
Mr Butts: Don't tell anyone about the secret door, or the secret phone. They are two of the nifty reasons we really like that spot!
Davepull: You got Kat's report ... Phil liked his a bunch too!
Smoke: Thanks!
JFlack: Awesome news! Next week will be even better, I'm sure. Did you run the t-plate centered, or off-set?
Cbear: Thank you! Hey, there's still time to build one for the 'Birds!
Yokeman: No racing for us last weekend ... DW and I are getting ready for the long trip East .... So much to do, so little time.
Hayes: Nice work! Keep tuning! There's a lot to learn on a new chassis.
EHR: Thank you! "the assembly instructions are clear and to the point and the tuning tips are very helpful" That's great to hear (especially after listening to Katfish!) LOL
BMC: Sometimes in a rush it's easy to think you're doing the right thing! But you gotta read them instructions!
Katfish: Yeah, you would think it's funny!
Tony13: You guys get to run again in two weeks. You better put 'er in the top three, Son! Preferably on the top step! (But, no pressure!)
David Butts 02-01-2005, 06:13 PM Well It aint a Buttsey body but it'll have to do. It actually looks pretty sharp in person. Davepull did the fancy stuff and I directed(and drank his beer). See it in person at Da'birds in two weeks. Or read about it's demise on here in three. Oh and another thing. It's on my dilapidated old 04 OPC chassis. You can see the Maverick decals(thanks Jake) in one of the pics.
cneyedog 02-01-2005, 10:22 PM hey butts, nice and colorful ! .... is that so them older eyes can see it better ?.....hehe
Jake, less then a week until you get to see all of us live and in person! ... Me, Katfish, Tinman, Butts etc etc .... ronnie said he cant wait.........muuuuhahahaha!
David Butts 02-01-2005, 10:42 PM hey butts, nice and colorful ! .... is that so them older eyes can see it better ?.....hehe
Why yes it is. As a matter of fact the reason the front is a different color from the rest is so I can tell which way it's pointed. :freak:
davepull 02-02-2005, 01:57 AM Jph racing the car sounds like a winner!!!!!! looks great. to bad I am getting out of this oval stuff. it's touring time after the birds to prep for the roar nats here in florida. hey you guys should make a graphite conversion for the tc4.

JPH Racing 02-02-2005, 02:42 PM Mr. Butts: Nice paint schemes! Should be easy to see on the track, after a few days with no sleep.
Davepull: I'll pass on the cat brains .... Thanks anyway!
Schumacher: Thanks for the good advice!
Yokeman: We all hope to do well. I'll try to get on here and post up while we're gone. I think DW will be bringing his laptop.

Man o man. Seems like just yesterday the 04 birds were the race to be at now in just 7 more days I'll be in O-town for the 05 version. Wish the best for everyone and hope for the best for the whole extended Maverick family.
Jake you have no idea how fortunate you are to be able to pass on catbrains. I was caught offguard last year and was traumatized to say the least. It's not a pretty sight.:drunk: It's kind of an visual version of pulling Ronnies finger. Funny for a second then gross.
I consulted my crystal beer bottle and it says we're all going to have a good time. And we may race some too.???
jflack 02-02-2005, 09:59 PM I am running off-set T-Plate only.....
tony 13 02-02-2005, 11:11 PM Shumacher 99, I think jake was going to come out with a one peice 05' in the next few months. He will be able to give you more info than me but I do recall him talking about it a little bit ago....
I have to say that I am soooo jealous that you guys get to go to the birds.. perhaps next year I will hop on the plane with DW and jake and see what the event is all about. I wish everyone luck next week and make the maverick family proud. :)

Lee
Lee Toler, Correct?
David Butts 02-03-2005, 10:44 PM At a quick glance, I'm embarassed that I couldnt buy Mr. Butts' car back from him so I guess we'll have to endure his finishing position and the business setback that comes from it. After all that being said these guys stand out to me. All running Mavericks of one vintage or another! I'm sure I missed some guys, please post-up and let us know if you'll be running a Maverick at the big event!
Sportsman 19:
David Butts full decal sponsorship from Jake, Running a Maverick 04 OPC, 1991 vintage radio gear and 1960 vintage driver, Using a lot of stuff my Wife does'nt know I've bought.
Hmm? I wonder if Ken(the scarecrow)Holmes needs all that info for his announcing notes?
Jake, Thanks for the kind words.:D
Tommygun43 02-03-2005, 10:55 PM Will there be any of these sweet 05 mavericks in the JPH pit at the 'Birds for sale?
JPH Racing 02-04-2005, 01:08 AM Schumacher: Sorry I missed this one earlier .... Yes, we'll be working on a solid chassis very soon. I've got some ideas already, I just have to get through next week, get caught up at work (and mentally) after next week, and then the project will start.
Jflack: Runs good with the offset t-plate, don't it!?! I'm going to try mine center/standard for the first practices at the 'Birds, and then switcher 'er around as needed.
Tinman: Hey, your work starts in a day or so, right? Get that flooring nailed down good! And, lay the carpet down real flat like! And, if you're not busy enough, grab some really bright light bulbs for the hall by the Maverick booth. Maybe Mr. Butts will feel more comfortable hanging out with us if the lighting is better ...
Totalrc: Glad you'll be there!
Mr Butts: Hey, that was funny! Took me a moment or two to figure it out .... Then a carefully reading got me up to speed on your sense of humor. I like it! Hey, what size shirt do you wear? When you make the A-main, and they announce all your sponsors, I'd like to be thanked for the decals and the shirt. That would be cool!
Tommy: To be honest, it depends on how the packing goes! If there's room, I'll bring a couple kits. I'm trying to slim down this year, I figure if I leave the kitchen sink at home I might have more room ... DW always gives me a hard time about how much stuff I bring, until he needs to borrow something!
BHayes 02-04-2005, 08:00 AM Good Luck to all you guys going to the Birds! Wish I could be there too....but I'll be checking up on everyone over the internet.
cneyedog 02-04-2005, 08:16 AM So, if the track gets bad again this year we can all make our formal complaints to tinman ? :jest: ..... from what i heard the track will be in better shape this year. cya
totalrc 02-04-2005, 12:14 PM Yes dave you are correct.
David Butts 02-04-2005, 07:40 PM Mr Butts: Hey, that was funny! Took me a moment or two to figure it out .... Then a carefully reading got me up to speed on your sense of humor. I like it! Hey, what size shirt do you wear? When you make the A-main, and they announce all your sponsors, I'd like to be thanked for the decals and the shirt. That would be cool!
It's all in good fun. I wonder if most of the people that read this stuff think I'm being serious? Oh yeah I almost forgot. X large.
wildman 02-06-2005, 11:19 AM All I can say about the new 05 mav H.E is awesome and I useually run a ksg! the car was good from the start, it responds small to changes and is very ajustable. In its first run it t.q. won and track record 19t!!! Also the track record was held by a custom works car. Jake you have a winner, can't wait for the region 8 oval race. Thanks Jake and brad for designing a winning car.
Kevin Perry
JPH Racing 02-06-2005, 11:34 PM Kevin: Awesome! That's good news for sure! When you get a setup you're really happy with, please e-mail it to me so I can post it on the site. Thanks!
Everyone: Well, tomorrow morning DW and I are off to the airport .... 11 hours later, we should be in Orlando! Looking forward to seeing all the East coast racers! I'll try to post up every now and then to let you know how things are going.

CBear3 02-09-2005, 12:33 PM i have only seen dave werts name for touring oval.what up with that???
jake dosent look to bad so far.right in the middle in 19 turn and 1/12.

From what I can gather if there track isn't full then another class can practice. Dave's running 4 Mod and the TC crowd is small (only 6 or so guys have taken to the track) so he probably got to jump in before their time was up, and then when the results got beamed up at the end of the session all lap times were included as TC lap times.
seaschorr 02-09-2005, 10:10 PM CBEAR3,
How ya doing?? Any good deals yet.Good luck from Team Fastlane.
David Schorr
Roadsplat 02-10-2005, 12:03 AM On the new 05 Maverick does it matter which side of the alum. shock mount the shock actually mounts to? I know that one shock mounts on the front side of the mount and the other mounts on the back side of the mount but does it matter which goes where.
Thanks
