Hey Rich...did you place your order yet?

JPH Racing
12-04-2004, 02:38 PM
JFlack: Yep, on the high banked capped tracks, the solids do seem to have an advantage. Do you think it has anything to do with ride height? Meaning, the slider has more natural flex in the tray, so they usually have to be run at a higher ride height ... Or, do you think it's just the solid has less flex overall, so it resists the compression of the high banks better?

And, I'm glad to hear your OPC is your fastest car (even without the best equipment)!

Burbs: Yep, we'll have a solid chassis out in the future. Not sure yet whether it will be a full conversion kit, or just an option part ....

Rich: Disturbing? Stop thinking about it!!

Burbs: Yes, the '05 has rear steer slugs, ala Hayes/ADX styling. Will work with just about any t-plate.

Tinman: Rich is showing interest! (I think he wants and autographed pic of Katfish holding the chassis though ... Says it would inspire him to greatness if he hung it in his toolbox)

12-06-2004, 03:28 PM
JFlack: Interesting way of looking at the twist and flex of the two types of chassis. Chassis binding, and what actually happens deep in the turn is so hard to figure out, but so important to going fast!

Katfish: Bro, you and Miller on the box would make it really tough to sell ... I think a plain brown wrapper might be more effective!

I had a great run on the carpet yesterday with the '05. Man, it really craved the turns well. Only one guy was faster, Mr. KC Racing himself (he had some HP, and wouldn't let me borrow a motor!!), both of us were a lap+ up on the others ....

Yadda yadda yadda, Blah blah blah!

We all figured if we were all quiet and let you work the 05 would get ready earlier. I'll take mine in blue thank you.

I ran the OPC at Hobby World again last saturday and it's now set my all time personal fastest 19t lap times. Butt(tm) I'm still not 100% satisfied with my performance with it. The car is great but my driving is horrendous. I need to put the car on a diet as in it's current setup it's heavy. 43 ounces with a personal in it.

Most of that girth is in the regular weight and heighth Protoform superspeedway Monte Carlo that I'm running with the trademarked BUTTS colors. All that flourescent paint and decals adds up quick. If I could have kept it off the back straight wall I would have run two 36 lap runs. Only a handfull of guys have ever run 36 laps on this track. Including one relatively unknown racer named Boylan. My day is coming though. The track record may be 37 laps by the time I get my 36 but I wont give up till I do. It's 36 or die I tell ya. hoo yah!

I just started running my 04' maverick slider and i love it. It has awesome corner speed and it is one of the most tune-able cars around. I run on a 118ft runline flat carpet track that has a ton of bite. Im having trouble keeping the left rear planted it picks up and even sometimes traction rolls. My tray is 1 hole from all the way forward, im running all grays except for a cream on the left rear which is around a 30. Im running 35wt oil and a silva 5lb spring in the center, red right front spring and green progressive left front. Im running a blue rr and silver lr spring. Any ideas on what im doing wrong?

Yokeman: Good luck at the T4T race this weekend. Nice job racing for a good cause! Please let us know how you do.

Mr. Butts: Yes, I have been working very hard on the '05 project. Right now it's instructions, box art, set-up sheets, etc .... So, don't worry about keeping quiet! Nice work on setting your all time fastest laps ... Now ya got to string them together and get that 36 (or 37?) lap run!

Strange fact on the post count ... Does this mean I have 1/10 less to say than Katfish? Or, that I can say what needs to be said in 1/10 less posts? Or ... well, never mind!

Justin: I don't think you're doing anything wrong, you just haven't found a balanced set-up yet. I'd really try moving the battery tray back some. Try lining up the front of the 3rd cell with the forward t-plate screw. It sounds to me like you don't have enough weight in the rear of the chassis. You might also try a green right front spring, and adding a little tweak.

Who's going to Da'Birds? Jake
Last february I litterally didnt make the decision to go till the weekend before the race and I still wasnt sure up to the wednesday that was the day before the oval club race that I was actually gonna be able to go. Luckilly my income tax refund came in that day so the trip was a go.

This coming february I'd like to be able to plan a little more ahead of time like maybe the tuesday before the club race's.?? It's strange with all the racers that travel from all over the world and plan as much as twelve months ahead of time that I live 2 hours from the track location and I still cant make the commitment to go till hours before the first "five seconds or less " signal.

If I do get to go this year I'll be running a Maverick car whether it be the 04 car I have now or the 05 car that I'd like to have by then. One way or the other I'll be having a good time with a good group of people. I still cant get over the fact that you can legally and without any fear of being disqualified from the race program(unless you yack on da'track)buy and drink beer trackside. Weeeeeeee here come Da'bird's. Y'all ready?

Justin,

I've tried to run that split rear spring thing before and had the same problem, try going to blue or silver springs on both rear shocks, then reverse your front springs if that isn't enough.

JPH Racing
12-13-2004, 04:23 PM
Wow, I just reread my post above, and I need to clarify something. Justin, what I meant to say was, try lining up the front of the 2nd cell back from the front (or 3rd up from the rear), to the forward t-plate screw .... That makes more sense, I hope!

Pepe: Good catch on the side shocks!

Mr Butts: 2 hours away you have the option of playing it close to the wire. Lucky you! The rest of us who travel 3000+ miles, we have to plan it out a little more! I'm hoping you'll be part of the event, we need quality representation! (as if Katfish wasn't quality enough!)

There are other geometry changes other then just the side shocks. The center shock has different geometry to change how it works during its range of motion.

There there is also the rear steer change, but other then that the aluminum parts are the same. But both top and bottom plates are different.

Tom, Tony, John.... you guys going this weekend???

Hey guys! Happy Holidays!

Progress on the '05 project is going well. Things seem to be on schedule with the carbon cutter, but maybe a little behind with the aluminum machinist .... (And the aluminum will parts have to be anodized.) So, I've got my fingers crossed for the 1st or 2nd week in January.

I'm glad you guys are so excited about this car. I am too! I can't wait for you to get you hands on them and give them a run!

Hey, if anyone is interested, we got in small batch of the t-plate hardware (KGB style). Delrin cups and brass pivot balls. Enough to do 15 t-plates. Price is $21.99 a set. E-mail me for further info.

Katfish, Tinman & Mr. Butts, say hello to Santa for me (tell him I've been good!!) LOL

Dont worry guys, its all going to schedule. Just like jake says very soon will the cars be here. I myself am totally jacked up about it. This car will be a winnner. Not that all the others werent fast, but I know that all that we have put into this car this past year will really show in how fast this car will be. Not only that but another big goal for us was to not just have a car that was wicked fast but have a car that is very consistant from track to track and very easy to tune in.

Soo much has been spent on making this car faster then anything we have ever done, while being very easy to make and keep fast. Jake has allready proved that fact. The car has just dominated.

The car I have been running is very close to the new car with all the same rear shock geometry and let me tell say, you can ask anyone that we race with that the Hayes Shock Geometry and chassis flex changes has helped me make my car and race program just that much faster.

Theres not enough that I can say about this new car. You all will really be treated to fast but easy to work with car. Hope you all like what has come from this project. I have.

Well I did'nt achieve my goal of 36 laps due to a couple of bad starts and one battery pack that refuses to stay soldered together. The car is working better and better everytime I set it down. Once again it was blazing and very capable and, Are you ready for this? Drum roll please (how do you type the sound of a drum roll?) I did not, I repeat I did not once today, Not in practice, Qualifying or the main, Touch that darn back straight outside wall. That in it'self is a victory for me and with the 2nd place finish it moves me into 2nd in the points series. I bought a used car from Katfish. I guess it was his '04 backup car. I have to tell you I have been very impressed. The car turns and handles better than any previous car I have owned. Thanks Katfish for the great deal. It made a Maverick fan out of me for sure. I was a previous ADX fan. So needless to say I am excited about the new car. Sounds like it is going to be the best of both worlds. I just need to save my pennies now. Any idea what the price of the new kit is going to be?

Maybe you Maverick guys can give me some setup advice. I am running on a flat 160' runline carpet track in 4-cell stock. This track is sort of the rc equivilent to Martinsville. It has long straits and pretty tight corners. The battle seems to be corner speed. The tight corners seem to scrub a bunch of speed. What do you guys suggest slider or solid chassis? and what other suggestions would you make. I am open to anything to help go faster. Thanks.

I would start the car off with the wheelbase in the 10.200" range or whatever you can get close to. It think with the slider car I ran it just a little shorter then 10.200. If the track is bumpy I would start off with the pod on the long position, if its smooth then run it in the middle position. And then adjust the front end to get the wheelbase.

If your going to run a sway bar, which would probably be a good option for that track I would start with 2 red wolfe std. springs up front. If not then a green on the left and a red on the right. 0 degrees caster LF and 2 degrees RF.

If you dont use the swaybar then you might want to try running the front offset to the left. It will make the car turn way harder especially gettin out of the corner. For starting I would run centered though.

Rear shocks I would run in the outside position on the cross brace, with a gold spring on the left and a blue on the right. 35-40 wt in both shocks.

Make sure you have enough pod droop and set the rear track width in the 8" range. I would also run the car with an off-set pod. I just like how planted the car feels with that. Let us know if you need anymore info.

Thanks to all you guys, hope you had a merry christmas.

I am very impressed by your chassis. Phil Owen has been kicking Butts (tm) with them down here for a while. speeking of Butts (tm) his car is looking really strong too. and I am sure Tinman will be a force @ the birds. Ya Katfish, I been wrenching, no to much time for typing. I have been running it as a slider and it has been good. Just getting that last 10th or two out of it has been tough. If it where easy everyone could do it, right.

Thanks for the info, I am at 10 5/16" as far as wheel base goes. So I guess I could shorten it up a bit. The pod is in the center set of holes. Rear width is 8" with the pod not offset. The front end is centered. Green left front spring and a progressive green right front spring. Side shocks have two blue springs. Center shock is 60wt. with blue spring. Caster is about what you suggest. I will try some of the stuff you suggested. I will let you know how I make out. Thanks.
