Well today was opening day at the midwest triclone for carpet.... The track was made bigger from last year, so the records had to be reset.. I ran stock as i usually do.. i got there plenty early so i could get some practice in.. and man did it pay off... I was untouchable.... I top qualified with a 63 4:02.. second place was a 62 4:01... i also won the main with a 63 4:01 and second was a 62 4:01.. The car was the best at the track.. even the 19 turn guys were tellin me ohw good it looked... we only had 8 gys show up for stock, but 5 of them were the fast guys that usually take the top spots... I must say the car has been good to me so far.. and it gets faster every day i run... it feels good to finnally have ac car that makes me as fast as i should be he he..

Jake, The FOCARS race was a blast and a success, There were abunch of Mavericks(well atleast 2)in The "A" of 19t but sadly I didnt own either of them. I Have made the OPC my primary car as you mentioned I should. I'll be the first to admit that I just dont have carpet figured out. When I threw down for practice the car was pretty close except for a turn in push. After practice and throughout qualifying and the main I had managed to perfectly screw up a good car. It's taken me twentyfive years to pefect my ability of slowing cars down and I'm proud of it! Actually I tied my best lap time from the last race on a track that had changed in size and had a few struggling on their setups as well. Tinman try as he may just couldnt slap me into speediness.

Next I'll work on my asphalt racing where the car will work or atleast it did before I "tuned" it for the rug.

Thanks for the decal package. They came in on friday but somehow they were left behind. Luckily Phil Owen(A nice guy hisself)had given some to a racing buddy a week before for me and he showed up in Orlando decals in hand.

Jake, the last FOCAR race of the year went well. The website www.focars.net (http://www.focars.net) should have the pics and a race report and the final tally of who finished where overall in the points and mains etc etc in the coming days. I'm sure Kat will shoot out an e-mail.

Jake's Performance Hobbies and Maverick Oval Chassis made a good thing (the series)better with your support! as well as alot of others. Thanks Jake !

thanks guys! and jake i can't thank you enough! if more of these guys undecided on what car kit to buy ever got to meet you in person i think they would have an easy choice! i'm tired and i'm not sure how a 5 race series feels like 40 races and 10 years? this race went off perfect and kenny holmes and chuck mann did there jobs well as usual! pro stock is one tough crowd, these guys are ready to drop the gloves at any moment! i think we raffled off 8 car kits in 5 races and something close to 2000.00 in foam tires! not to mention all the other great stuff! win, lose or draw i had a good time so i think most of the other guys did as well!

i'll have a full race report tommorow night and a special thread for all the sponsors. after all it was here on hobby talk that i first started this idea. i think in less than a months time i had 16 sponsors! every one of them first class people to work with! people complain that oval is small time and the companies even smaller! i say they are some of the best companies for customer service and as a race promoter i got to work with 16 different owners, all first class. i tell these guys every race to please support those companies that support our series! i'm looking forward to 2005...new tracks, more tracks and a better grasp on what not to do! lol thank you again jake! you made the first year a hit! Travy: Sounds like fun!

Mr. Butts: Well, what can I say ... Sometimes you tune yourself in, sometimes you tune yourself out! That's racing! The carpet is a different feel, and takes some getting used too. The first day of carpet, I always find myself turning into the turn about 3 feet too early .... Makes a nice slap sound when I hit the pipes!

Rich: Boylan's a fast cat, that's for sure! Glad you guys had fun during the final race.

Tinman: 5th in the A! Right on! Tune, tune, tune .... Glad to hear Kat was a good boy, he worries me sometimes!

Katfish: Man I'm glad the last race went so well for you! Awesome! For a first year series, I think you should be proud of all you accomplished. I know you learned a lot, and next year will be even better.

Burbs: Cool pics again! Nice and clean car. FAST too! Thanks for the set-up, it'll be one the site soon.

Well I'm getting this car to work now. Everytime I set it on the track lastnight(hobby world, asphalt) it got better. Strange to me as on a fully independent suspension car, Using stiffer rear springs transfers weight to the front resulting in more steering usually but I switched side springs to the next softer and got more steering. Hmmmm? Buttsey not have this stuff figured out afterall?

Today I head for sunny Daytona/Ormond Beach to try it out at Strickland Parks asphalt. I'm not a one track kind of guy. I enjoy getting beat badly at many venues. Butt(tm) since I'm now running the greatest chassis in r/c history I'm sure to reverse that trend. eventually?

The first body is close to nearing the end of it's aerodynamic usefullness(I've beaten the poop out of it)so I'll be replacing the black 01 Army body with a more colorful one soon.

burbs
11-05-2004, 01:57 AM
i found middle holes in front.. and long wheel base in back with the performance pod worked best..on the opc... this car turns.. i really think the shortest wheel base would be over kill....

JPH Racing

Ovalist & Tony: Thanks for the nice words.

BMC: I always encourage racers to try different set-ups, because without seeing the track they run on, I really have no way of knowing 100% if something's going to work. Short in the front is pretty short, but you never know! Like Burbs said, middle front and either long or middle rear seems to be where most guys end up.

Depending on the track shape, and how smooth it is, you might try adding some rear steer into the car. Using Sliva Concepts t-plates allows you to do this easily.

Burbs: That wheelbase is my favorite also. Seems to work everywhere for my style of driving (out of control).

Everyone: We've been doing a lot of testing on bits and pieces of the new car. There are no complete prototypes out there yet (thank you for all the e-mails offering to test one for me!). So far, things have been fast and testing has gone well.

For those of you asking for a picture, spy shots and such ... There's a pic a few pages back .... It was everything Rich was looking for .... If you guys really want, I'll see what I can do about finding something newer to look at. LOL

Hey Jake, You need any durability testing done on any parts or cars? I seem to be really perfecting the art of hitting everything lately.

I think I have the record for the longest roof slide down the hobby world back straight which is really long. Like about 100 feet.

I will say that the OPC is the best handling car I have ever driven upside down. Much more stable than the L4. Smoother than the KSG, Not as many unexpected moves as the Custom Works and the turn marshalls say it's easier to pick up too.

Next week I think I'll try for the long distance pvc jump or maybe the Joie Chitwood bicycle off an infield plow disc.

All kidding aside(who said I was kidding?) the above setup is what I was just thinking I need to try. My car has only the extended pods so with the front in the long position my car is really long. I'm going to try the middle holes which is the regular wheelbase of my other car. I ran some good laps with it last night just not enough in a row. Dont touch that dial!

Now if we can keep him from screwing with it and just run the damn car, we might have accomplished the impossible.

I can count the days left Kat, and boy oh boy will it be a glorious day. That Haze in the horizon keeps getting better and better. If you could only see the things these eyes have seen. It will bring a tear to your eye like that sweet cherry pie. (sorry for the VH quote)

Allrightey then. The OPC now has the correct "BUTTS" paint job and decal package on it. It may not be any faster but it sure will look it at race rock next weekend. Shortened up the wheelbase about 3/8th of an inch so now it should turn in a little better and corrected a side shock geometry problem too.

Stay tuned race fans. Race rock is sure to generate some positive press. Tinman appears to be on a roll. Team geriatric may pull out the surprise victory.

Tinman: Go get them!

Katfish: Don't harm his new ride! He's on a roll lately!

Everyone: As you guys know, we've been testing bits and pieces of the new car, trying to find out what will be included and what needed to be refined a little more. Overall, we've been having great success with just about everything we've tried.

I built up and ran the complete prototype this last weekend. It's first official day at the track and it was on par with my '04 car (that I've been running and dialing in all season). I made a gearing mistake, or it would have been much faster than my '04!

I'll have some more news for you all soon, and pics too! I've still got a few design tweaks to do, but man it's looking and driving awesome!

I again have to agree with Ovalist. the car was dialed. I wish there would have been more cars out there to compare it to but the car looked like it to little to no effort to drive. It alos looked sweet off the track. there are some radical changes to that thing and they seem to work so far. I will have to dig up some cash for one of these things when they come out. We need to hit the carpet here in Nor Cal and keep the oval season moving......
