anyone who runs a maverick on carpet and it's flat realy needs to take a hard look at jakes posted carpet set-up..it realy works well..90% of your speed will be found in your tires if all else is the same. the correct tires make a world of difference!

i got my 05 today! i just cant show anyone til january! he hehehehehe

Maybe Tinman, ya never know , Jake said I could have your spot ... whats that mean ? ..ha ha ha...:p j/k .......... The roof should get replaced in the next couple weeks, its patched up ........ what happened was i had the siding ripped off around the attic and the gable end of the house. I'll bring some pics to the next race.

Rich: Late Dec, early January .... Things are on schedule at the moment! Yes, there's a secret test location, but I can't tell ya where ... Or it wouldn't be a secret! I'll give you a hint though ... It might be in Northern California or Indiana?

Katfish: You weren't supposed to tell anyone about your '05!

Rocket: You're a funny guy! Smart, too! See ya at the 'Birds!

Lee: Glad to hear you're liking your '04! I'm sure as you get some runs in on it, you'll be liking it even more. As for the Mini Mav, like KOZ said, the graphite parts should be here late next week. And, motor mounts about the same time. Then we're ready to sell them!

JPH Racing

Bud: We had hoped to do a full kit this time, but it's looking like it will be a conversion kit. The costs are huge for a small company to purchase the products in the proper quantities needed to build up kits. There's still a small chance it may happen, depends on bids coming back from a few sources ....

Oh my! After owning it since Da'birds my 04 OPC finally has a painted body on it. I think its about time it gets dirty. Dont worry Jake, It doesnt have a BUTTS body on it. Wouldnt want to bring down the respect level your fine company has. Yet! ???? I think I have this stuff figured out. If people wont pay you to run their stuff, Do so bad they'll pay you to stop running it. Weeeeeeee

Dateline 10/02/04 Middleburg(Where there are less tree's standing than there were six weeks ago)Florida. The OPC now has the newest spare componenets I own in it. Are you ready for this? A Novak 410 M1C speed control, A Novak NER2X micro rx(A.M. to boot, Hey it'll work with the Futaba Magnum AM transmitter OK), And a Futaba S9401 servo. Most of that stuff was obsolete when the new crop of r/c 'ers was born. But I'll use nothing but the best for my cars.? Ah but it's all good stuff to those of us that can't remember the seventies, Pass the Dorito's man!. There's nothing like the growl created by the lowspeed hum of low frequency speed controllers. Was that a traffic song? I digress? I cant wait to get this thing on the track and as soon as I do If I can remember to I'll post on here how it did. :jest:

Well the OPC made it's first appearance at a track today. Not my normal asphalt foam tire track but like the title line says, I should've known better than to try and run a good/great/the best car(shameless plug) with old am radio equipment and cap tires of equal vintage.

Yeah thats right not only did I try to run old stuff but took the car to a track I've only run at twice before also. The ancient am radio worked great in practice but failed miserably in the first qualifier so In went the good but equally as old PCM stuff and voilla no more radio problems.

Took till the third round of qualifying before I finally made the "A" main but I did. Finished third and had a great day of fun to boot. The car worked great and I plan on running it at my local track, Hobby world next friday for a real comparison test. Try as I may to jinx it the car worked almost flawlessly and I expect it to be fast anywhere. Now about me? I just have fun, wish more people looked at it that way too. Now about that "BUTTS" body???????

Do any of you guys have a good setup for classic hobbies for the OPC kit??? i saw a classic setup on the site, but it looks like an asphalt setup... ill prolly be running stock or 19 depending... im hopefully going in the next few weeks.. also i run for tm tires...if u are familiar with them please list the compounds.. if not.. maybe a shore rating.. of the others.. thanks

Burbs I used to run for TM...what class are you gonna run when you come down?
His tires were too soft for me when I ran for him for Classic but I think he came out with a Double black, so if you run stock you will need:
LF - Double black (45-50)
RF - Double blue (60+)
LR - Standard black (32-34)
RR - Double Black (45-50)

Frank P can help you with a setup for the Mav, a Hyperdrive setup should get you close if not.

Burbs: Carpet will need a different set of tires than asphalt. Although, you can try purples and pinks, or double pinks, on carpet as well. It all depends on the set-up and your style of driving.

burbs
10-07-2004, 08:26 PM
ir an pruples and pinks last week.. the track was green as can be.. they hooked up good for the day....

the best tires if foind for flat tracks is green rears, green left front and either a blue or purple right front.... i got a ton of tires this year, so im going to try everything....

i also found the g series rears to work well.. all of them seemed to work mostly the same.. and they dont wear hardly at all..

Well, gang I ran my 04 OPC at my local track friday night(10-8) and I must say that for the first time it touched that track it was dialed. I never touched a thing and it was glued. Slow(motorwise)but glued. Phil Owen can attest to that. I guess I'll update it to co-primary car status and put a better speed control in it and spend some not so spare dollars on a few new stock motors or atleast one and really give it a go. I've yakked up that car so much around here that I had several other racers looking at it too. Wheres my flourescent paint now?

Mr Butts: That's fantastic news! And it only took you a whole year, plus two race days to figure this out! LOL
Now, I have a suggestion, and I'm going out on a limb here ... Maybe make the OPC your #1 car, put all your really good equipment in it, and then see how she does??

Keep up posted!

attached is a link to my 04 photos...

i ran it in indiana this past weekend in 19t... i race stock, but they did not have a stock class.. so since i drove 5.5 hours, i decided to run 19t.. they had two heats... i did alot better then i thought, and the car was awesome... this car is so planted ... i went 59 4:01 in my best qual.. now take away the two traction rolls the first two lasp, and the wrecks, ida been near the 61 mark... this would have put me top 5... the car was great.... can wait to do some more with it...

Ok Jake you're on. I'll put the good stuff(as far as my stuff goes) in the car and run it in 19t at the next FOCARS race in Orlando. I already have the laptimes and memory of how the L4 worked there the last two times. If I better my times I'll announce to the world via hobbytalk that the car rocks. I'm already impressed after looking closer at the side shock mounting options and such that you have apparently done your homework and the materials are top notch. Thats some stiff stuff. Heh heh heh, He said stiff stuff? Maybe I can get some Maverick decals out of the deal huh? Hey then I can say I have a decal sponsor.

Cool photos Mike! Can I pull a few and add them to the website? Wow, 5.5 hour drive to race? You are hard-core man!! Traction rolls are wicked on the carpet, aren't they, especially the snap rolls were it jumps up on the nose and tries to corkscrew itself into the carpet. A little harder right front tire should cure it.

Mr Butts: I'll be looking forward to the announcement :) In the meantime, e-mail me your street address and I'll send some stickers your way. Gotta have the Maverick logos on a new fluorescent paint job.

yeah jake i sent u the original photos... yeah this track had tons of bite.. unfortunatley all i had was purple right fronts with me... cant borrow a bsr, when i run for tm he he....

Burbs, I was running at New Castle last Saturday night too. In practice I started with a Jaco black right front, and it had too much bite. Then I changed to a double black that was just a little harder, and it made the car way better. This was with an '04 Maverick Slider. So as Jake said, something a little harder than your purple on the right front should help out. I also ended up going stiffer on the front springs to take a little bite out of the front end. Let me know when you are coming back to New Castle. I hope to run there on a somewhat regular basis, and would be glad to share some Maverick setup info with you.

burbs
10-15-2004, 02:41 PM
Yeah ill be back for the november 5th or 6th race.. whatever day it is... I have never had to use harder then a purple for flat tracks, so i didnt bring any.. i could have borrowed a tire, but i like to stick with tm's.... i dont thinkthe tire was to soft.. i just think the first few laps it had to much bite... after two or three laps, it was right on.. But u can bet ill have some harder stuff when i come next time...... If u are there ill look u up.. or around for u ..LOL... thanks for the info

i really didnt have a lot of front end bite... the car went in good, but was sightly lazy out... i tried stiffer right front springs, and it made it worse.... i had to lift the whole run.. some guys said after two minute u could keep it pinned,, not me... just had a slight burp.. .. but some guys said they do it the whole run to.. it was my first time, so i was happy with the results... i had never run 19t before, so it was a learning expirience

10-16-2004, 09:09 PM
well. i raced my o4 again today... the car was alot better then two weeks ago at our home track.. last time i went 43 laps.. it was however the first week and the track was green.... this week i managed to qual 2nd going 45 laps.. the car still isnt where i want it, but getting a ton closer... last year at this time i was on 44 lapos.. we didnt see 45 till later in the season..Tq was set by terry warner.. if u have seen him run you would be amazed,, he is our track record holder in stock... but anyway.. the car is great so far.. i love it...
