View Full Version : The MAVERICK OVAL CHASSIS Thread
red201 03-09-2004, 02:11 PM Brett, the mav is a great car i had a ksg ans sold it to by a 03 and have been faster since, not knocking the KSG. jake and his guys are really helpful with anything you need also.the 03 or 04 will be a great choice.
Jake can you e-mail me a price on the new battery tray. Spell_1979@yahoo.com thanx
Thanks to everyone who helped me out on Sunday. That track worked me over pretty good and taught me humility and patience. Considering the day I had, third place felt like a win. Now that the bugs are worked out of the new car and I'm warmed up, I can't wait until we get on a real  Oval instead of the dreaded Hell's Circle!!!

JPHRacer 03-09-2004, 11:19 PM Brett, you cant go wrong with the solid chassis car. I will be running both this year but my main car will be the OPC for 4-cell mod asphalt. I have only had two race weekends on the OPC and only one on the slider (snowbirds) but both of them are improvements on the 03 which allready was a rippen car.
I personally like the OPC just because of the lighter weight, and the chassis seems to have a little more flex. But either way both of the cars are good cars. You cant go wrong.
BMC: I have allways run off-set pod everywere I go. But for this season I am trying STD pod. It so far has worked well for me. I have not noticed any problems with the car not getting into the corner, and it seems to be realy free on corner exit, but that is only with two race days under my belt with the setup. When I know more about how it makes the car work, I'll post it here. This is for 4-cell mod too.

JPH Racing 03-10-2004, 02:30 AM Brett: Did you really read the whole thread? In one sitting?? That's awesome! There are a lot of good chassis out there right now, more quality available than ever before to an oval racer. I'm glad that you have considered our chassis. If you decide to go that direction, I'm sure that you will get the speed you're looking for out of it!
I know it's hard to lay down your hard earned bucks when no one in your area has one ... One of our biggest challenges has been to get racers to give our chassis' a try, to be the first on the block with a Maverick is a lot to ask. All I can say is, you'll be the first to start a new trend in your area!
For a small company in the oval world, our product quality is great, our prices are very fair, and our customer service is excellent. But, since you read the whole thread, you know all that already.
Red: You got mail coming! Glad the Maverick is working well for you!
E.Dub-YA: Dude, you're there already, you're just the last one to figure that out. The car was fast, you'll just have to relax and drive. Congrats to Moxie (spelling?) for the win in Novice Oval!
Dave: Right on DW! You're car was fast on Sunday, no doubt about it.
Ruby: What's Up!
bigdon18 03-10-2004, 12:01 PM Jake,
ygm and again thanks.

David Butts 03-11-2004, 08:15 PM Hey Jake. I have an idea for you. While working on getting this OPC to the ride heighth I want I found out that most washers dont stack straight and that my local hobby shop doesnt stock the associated spacer part #(imagine that?)and it's wobbly plastic anyway.
What you should look into since you obviously have access to carbon fiber cutting machinery or know someone that does is. -----Ta da! How about making all us racers some front end shims out of the leftover scraps? Hmmm? Like different thicknesses of carbon fiber front end shims in a single pack for say? $4.50? I've seen your product in .050 or whatever thickness the slider plates are and 3mm and I'm unsure of the regular 04 chassis thickness but I believe it's in between .050 and 3mm. So what do ya say?
Oh my you could retire on that part number alone(maybe not)since it would fit every car ever manufactured to use the associated front end(billions for sure)and it would still be a worthy addition to your already awesome(unadulterated plug) product line. I bet your chassis cutter has a garbage can full of adequate scraps that they'd be dying to sell to you instead of just tossing in the near by dumpster.
You could even call them Buttbars(tm) and I wouldnt sue you.
tony 13 03-11-2004, 10:45 PM E dubya you were fast man. you were definately up to speed the only problem is you seemed to let the car drift out a little to much and it made you line longer than others. I think it had to do with the fact that there were no straightaways like you are used to. DON'T GET FRUSTRATED!!!!! its way to early in the season for that. and even later in the season there is no good reason to get P.O.-ed they are toy cars after all. I know that you are aware of that so I will get off of your case. When is the next race for us Nor cal guys? is there a race a week from sunday anywhere? I cant make it to ROCKS but the following weekend I was hoping to test my luck with the Maverick. talk to ya soon

Anthony
Speed World should be the 3rd weekend i'm sure we can get a decent turnout if we spread the word..
TinManSEP 03-11-2004, 11:06 PM Hey Dave B. that's the funniest comment I ever heard outta your keyboard. You must have found some old Georgia Clay and sniffed it....LOL See ya in Daytona!!
TinMan
tony 13 03-12-2004, 01:29 AM I would be down for it if some of the local guys go. DW are you busy that weekend? how bout' E Dub-ya? Jake? what kind of drive is that from the coast? are you going KOZman?
JPH Racing 03-12-2004, 02:06 AM Mr. Butts: Wow, that was a good idea! How about emailing me the next one! LOL
Anthony: Yep, speedworld weekend after next ... But, a word to everyone, bring your own transponder, because they do not have a house set. Personals all the way or rent one ....
Ask me next Saturday night, and I'll let ya know what my plans are. Gotta get through the Super Sidewalk Sale Day first!
tony 13 03-12-2004, 04:53 AM what are they charging to rent a transponder? as far as the sale goes I think I will be there. need help let me know. C U later
JPHRacer 03-12-2004, 01:15 PM DW will be there for sure. I might, might not make rocks, it all depends. But I will be at speedworld for sure. I talked to kevin porter and he says he is going to make it, so it look like we can get a dencent turnout. I think charlie ferrari said he was going to go, so looks good. Now if we can somehow get EW there that would be cool too.

tony 13 03-12-2004, 02:31 PM we could show up at his door sunday morning and pound on the front of it until he goes with us. or we could hog tie him and carry him into the car blind folded. no matter what it takes let get E Dub-ya out there. do you think they will have a stock class out there? is there enough drivers? c u later
David Butts 03-12-2004, 05:22 PM [QUOTE=JPH Racing]Mr. Butts: Wow, that was a good idea! How about emailing me the next one! LOL
OOPS! Are you insinuating that other manufacturers read this stuff too? Hi guys! I had never thought of that. Hey they need ideas thay can call their own too. Glad I didnt mention my Mc Phereson strut front suspension(Buttstruts?) or? Oh nevermind.
Herc Driver 03-12-2004, 10:35 PM Any of you guys know of racing in Valdosta, Ga? Im moving there by the years end and am having trouble finding out if there is or isnt a track there. If not guess I could road trip it to Jax.
Thanks
Paul
bigdon18 03-12-2004, 11:23 PM Paul ,
they used to be a track there but the guy that was running it has takin some time off from it ,, it was a parking lot setup and really nice,, but just isnt being run right now. i keep hearing rumors that it might start again ,, boy that would be nice for me ,, something closer to home.
they are some racers that live in valdosta ga, my buddies wade, willis , jerry p and a another maverick racer stevie spell (red201) lives there, the travel around , to tracks like ,, east dublin ga, warner robins ga, brandford fla, ormond beach daytona fla,, and jacksonville fla. ,, but they run alot of brandford since its the closest to valdosta ga,, i live in waycross ga, which is a hour away from valdosta..
when you get moved ,, email me and i get you hooked up with some racers to do road trips with.
hope this helps you some

Thanks for the reply. Where is Branford at and what kind of racing do they do...how far of a drive from Valdosta is it? Like I said earlier Im up for any kind of racing! After being stationed out here in West Texas (and after several government paid vacations to desert paradises that Im sure you have seen on tv...I welcome the change in scenery!) I need to get back into it...I mean it is nonexistant out here!
I will be in Valdosta in December. I really can't wait! I had heard about a place called Valdosta speedway but this might be the one you are talking about.
I will take you up on the road trip! I have found a few sites that look like good tracks like TFB raceway, the pit in Jax...as well as others. So is on road oval the primary racing scene in the area? If so I may have to deal out my offroad stuff and switchover.
I have been to SCORE in savannah and always had a blast out there.
Thanks again for helping a brother out!
Paul
bigdon18 03-12-2004, 11:50 PM Paul,
Brandford is about hour to hour fifteen minutes form valdosta if i remember correctly. they run oval pan cars there with cap bsr tires.. the track is a nice concrete try oval,, they is a brandford thread in the oval track discussion area of this fourm also here is a link to the website a guy name kevin has made for the brandford track http://www.kevinsrc.tk/ . sorry its mostly oval pan car racing around here.. here is a link to a track locator http://www.deccosoftware.com/tracks/default.asp
just select state , and go from there,, they are links in it to almost all the tracks i mention about.
for off road ,, they is a track in savannah ga, that i know of few in north ga ,, and some in fla. like minrig fla, ocala, you just have to look,, sorry not up on the off road seen even tho i would mine trying it once in awhile. i like racing almost any thing if its got wheels and a servo we go  ,, but i mostly run oval pan cars tho.
again hope this helps you out,,
Herc Driver 03-13-2004, 12:45 AM Hey thanks alot! If its an hour then thats probably where Ill race. Im with you Id race the car's box if we could get a class I just love the hobby Thanks again for all the help.

David Butts 03-13-2004, 11:30 AM Goodness gracious it's only 7:30 in shaky state time and Jake's already perusing this thread, Good morning Jake.
JPH Racing 03-13-2004, 11:37 AM Good morning Mr. Butts! Somtimes I've gotta start early to keep up on action!
Hank80 03-13-2004, 11:55 AM Morning Jake, I will be calling you on Monday morning to order an '04 Could you overnite it by fedex?

JPH Racing 03-16-2004, 12:16 PM H&H: What up Tin Cup! Welcome to the Maverick Thread! When are you and JJ going to be racing again?
Everyone: How was this weekend's racing? How did ya'll do?
katf1sh 03-16-2004, 01:18 PM ok this is the big weekend for phil, don, tinman and I ...the daytona speedway spectacular...19 turn mod is going to have around 30 entries with mr. bruce triplett in the mix! gonna be fun!
H&H Racing 03-16-2004, 03:04 PM JPH: soon my friend....soon
how is everybody else doing
Tin Cup
Hey Shaun,Get Jamie and you up to Speedworld this coming Sunday, were trying to get a descent show put together..
H&H Racing 03-16-2004, 06:40 PM I'll see what I can do KOZ.....
tony 13 03-16-2004, 08:18 PM Hey KOZ whats it looking like for sunday? I know I will be there along with DW and George who else have you heard of? do you know of any stock guys?
Jake it looks like my pops and I are going to watch the Ferrari's on saturday so I will probably miss saturday. I need some parts and traction compound for the maverick so I will probably see you friday. is there anything different when it comes to setups at speedworld? or is the current stock set up sufficient?
talk to ya'll later AC
Tony..Hopefully guy's will come out of there caves for some killer, fast oval racing, pass the word the weather looks good as well and you know Billy will have us HOOKED UP on traction!!
JPH Racing 03-17-2004, 01:59 AM Katfish: I know you guys will all have a good weekend of fun! Hopefully you'll all do well on the track too. You guys gonna share set-up info and work together?
Anthony: I'll be there all day on Friday ... It's hard to say what you should change on the set-up before the race. Usually there's too much traction on you'll spend time loosening the car up more than a regular parking lot. But, I'd just wait until practice that morning and get tuned in then!
KOZ: No doubt about it, Billy and his back pack sprayer will lay down the traction compound until even the turn marshalls are hooked up! It's like playing football on Astroturf, someone could blow out a knee getting turned around on that track! I know Dave it totally looking forward to this weekend ... Seems he's got a point to prove about being fast? LOL
Everyone: Didn't anyone race last weekend? How about the guys who went to the Associated race? I know we had a local race (but I missed this one) Eric "E.W." Wildt posted his first win of the season in 4 Cell Stock, and KOZ and D.W. had a great battle in 4 Cell mod, with KOZ pulling off the win.
bigdon18 03-17-2004, 09:06 AM jake,

JPH Racing 03-18-2004, 01:09 AM To all the Maverick Drivers: We do not promote the idea of anyone, let alone Katifsh (especially Katfish!), running naked around the track just to get set-up info ...
I'm sure the Maverick Crew will be ready and willing to help out if someone is struggling. If that someone who is struggling is Phil, because Don has him pinned down, please bring oxygen quickly!

i think phillip and kat plan on running inline to the last lap then see who can streak  out for the win..but for parental reason i heard that race want be run until after hours..
