Steve right? If so you run at branford and caps are used there. Do you balance your tires? Those heavy caps are usually waaaaaayyyy out of ballance and that'll be much more noticeable at higher rpm. Just a thought. I have'nt seen it mentioned but I ballance all my tires just because. Hey I've never lost a race because my tires were ballanced so it cant hurt.

If your talking BSR caps, they're not wayyyy out anymore,John has them almost perfect straight out of the bag.if the car is bouncing it's set up wayyy to soft.Start with a med finishline SS T-plate if your going to switch. How is the rest of the car set up?

Dave's right, I hadn't thought about caps being out of balance ... even though John has really cleaned up BSR, it's still a good idea to double check the balancing.

Tinman: Good luck this weekend! Say hello to Boylan and the crew!

Wagonman: Maverick Racers at the Norrca race will include Kevin, Dave, George and Justin. How about the locals? Will it be a well attended event?

...I don't know what the SHOWTIME turnout will be for the "STATES" race. Hopefully it will be a good show. The track hasn't been having a lot of luck pulling in racers since the track across town started running oval from what I hear...and they have a race schudeled the same day.

I have to say...if the tracks as good as it was for our final series race back in November...it should make for some AWESOME racing.

I have been wanting to get back to Showtime since then, but too many obsticles keep getting in the way...I hope to check in on you guys next weekend, but will only be spectating.

The SWTour will be back at SHOWTIME the middle of May (A week before the Nat's in Boulder) which I'm sure will kill some of the Nor Cal guys coming down, but those who don't plan to go to NEVADA for the Nat's won't want to miss that weekend either.

The "TOUR" will also be in Boulder City for our annual Series race aka KIMBROUGH 4:00 warm-up and this will also make a great NAT'S warm-up as well...this will take place April 3rd.

Katfish: I like to keep tabs on my guys! LOL Is Ronny still in the way? Him and Rich must have been working together to slow you down!

Joe: Have you been to the new track in Bakersfield? I heard the turnouts have been pretty good? Will you be hosting any Tour races there?

BMc: Hmmm ... Short, short and offset? Well, I haven't run one that way yet! I guess it would depends on how small the track is. If it's really small and tight (and smooth) then it might work well. You might want to try it on a practice day first, because it might be fast but a handful!

What kind of track are you currently running on?

Jake, actually i got spun to the back on lap 2 and ran kat down and the others from the back of the pack (well except for phil i think was in another time zone by then....LOL) ..... got by him for second with about 30 sec to go maybe, got by him just started to pull away a teeny bit .... then my batteries started going flat and he reeled me back in ... if we had beat the buzzer for another lap i wasnt gonna be able to hold him back there.... at the line kat was maybe 2 car lengths behind me ....lol..... we had a real fun race at the new ormond track....it was C O L D though....YIKES!! :D

Phil was ballistic, all that hobbyworld experience payed off .... we'll get him next time though

Jake,

I've been to the NEW track in B-Field...they have been getting in the 70 - 80's for overall turnout I hear, but only 20 - 25 of them are for the Oval...

It doesn't look like theirs and our schedule is going to work out this year, but we hope to have races there in the future.

I still LOVE Showtime's track since they put down the sealer and switched to foams...what an awesome thrill to drive now...

Hey, if I can arrange an OVAL RACE in Gilroy...can I count on Nor-Cal guys to come out?

Hey Jake
I am running on a 120ft smooth flat track oval.If not a offset frontend, what about running the shortest wheelbase.I currently run the second shortest wheelbase and the car seems to handle good.I am just trying to find more speed through the corners. How far are you guys spacing your front end out?I currently have my front end width the same as the rear width.

JPH Racing

Rich: You know, if you run a Maverick Chassis it will extend your run time by being more efficient in the turns? LOL Thanks for pushing the Maverick Crew to go even faster! Ronnie needs a proctologist! Might find his head! LOL

Joe: E-mail me about Gilroy. It all depends on the dates.

vo99: On the Maverick Oval Chassis, the Associated front end bolts to a plate, then the plate bolts to the chassis. This allows the front end to be moved around very easily, for different wheelbases, offsets, and widths.

Red: Top three, very nice!

BMC: Can you please e-mail me your current set-up (springs, oils, battery location, body, wing, tires, etc ...)? Or post it here, and I'll make some suggestions on things to try for more corner speed.

What class are you running? Stock, 19t, Mod???

What track surface? Asphalt, Carpet???

What I can offer right now, is to try running a std pod, unless your running mod. And stay away from Jaco tires. Ask anyone about them and you'll be listening to people b*tching and whining all day long. The rims are made of a crappy material, they bend, they get severly out of round real fast, the foam chunks very easily, never glued all the way around... ect.

I run TM tires and like them very much, the rim is the strongest in the biz, and still lite for how much is there. They are very consistant from batch to batch. The Foam is actually glued all the way around the rim. They chunk much less then Jaco's do and have much more of a variety of compounds to choose from.

Jake also sells Johns BSR tires. They are very nice. Stong rim, and yet one of the lighest out there. Very true, and due to there larger DIA, they are allmost impossible to chunk. The QC is very good now.

I have been running nothing but TRC's recently and have been making them work and making them work very well. TQ and 2nd place at a track where everybody run's Jaco's. And at the same track the week before the race the track record was broken by a whopping 2 laps with TRC's!!

The compounds do run a little softer than Jaco. Where people run a Jaco single blue RF I would run a TRC dbl blue RF. THe trc's seem to have more side-bit also.

TM tires seem to be comparable to TRC's as far as shore to compound go.

Any tire will be fast, it is just a matter of tuning. I prefer TRC's because I am familiar with the compounds so it is easier for me to make them work than a tire I have never used before.

For those that attend the Assoc. Open or the Roar carpet oval nats this year let me know and I will give you a base setup.

JPH Racing
03-02-2004, 01:42 AM
BMC: Some suggestions would be: Move the battery forward. Try a gold spring on the left. Bring the left rear tire in. Swap your front springs. Try some rear steer. Softer left front tire. You might also try three pinks and a purple right front (common tire combo).

I guess it all depends on where in the turn you're loosing the speed? Is it on entry? Mid turn? Or on exit? Work on entry first, then mid and exit.

Dave: Jeez man, tell us how you really feel about them tires LOL

MobileMike: Hey dude! How's the Maverick been working for you? Are you ready for the big races?

Mr Butts: Thank you LOL Ronnie and Rich are funny guys ... Actually, most everyone who runs with the group seems to be really nice and have a good sense of humor.

Hey I was being conservative, for the sake of Jack. I could really open up about it, but that's what my psychotherapist is for. :freak:

Thankfully you can get Jaco Rubber on other good rims, that are glued all the way around. From what I have run and seen, TM, BSR, Murdock, and Cooper are all on the same Jaco rubber. TRC's have allways been different, I am pretty sure is's because it uses the Itialian rubber from the company that does Enneti. TRC's are not bad, just different, different feel, on and off the track. I could never get the same compound and durometer TRC tires to work like Jaco's could, but I couldnt get Jaco's to finish a 4 min run without a rim bending or flat spotting. When I made the switch to TM it was like where I had left off with Jaco's, as far as the feel went.

Then again JMO.

Anthony: There will be plenty of people to race with, bring your "A" game to your first oval race as car owner/driver! Dave and I will help you tune it up ... word has it that KP may be running stock this weekend? So, you'll have to step up and run him hard! Plus, the Albano Bros. Racing Team will be out in force!

Mike: NICE! Let us know how the Associated race turns out for you. Keep an eye out for Todd G., he'll be there too.

KOZ: You thinkin' about doing a double header this weekend? I'll understand if Sunday is too much after you're run to So-Cal ... It's a long driver for you, after an even longer drive ... Plus, you're driving down to B'Field (and back) with Dave, that can make the drive seem twice as long!

I'm just stoked that I get to race this weekend! Looks like Mother Nature may break her tradition of raining out our club's first race of the season ... Now I've got to get that 2nd car finished up so I can run Mod and 19 Turn. Man, I'm looking forward to some wheel time.

KOZ: Just concentrate on laying it down at the States race! If you have the energy after that long drive, then it would be great to have you run with us. But, if not, Bro take it easy and relax. No worries, it's just the start of the season and there will be plenty of racing around Nor-Cal this year.

Mike: Yeah, the weather is getting warm a little early this year ... It will be nice being outside all day racing, I can't wait!

Anthony: D.W. is supposed to attend both days ... We'll see if the alarm clock will wake him up Sunday morning!

Tinman: Hey Brotha, you've been a little quiet lately? Everything been going ok??

Allrightey then Mr. Jake. I have been working(well truthfully just staring at it) on the OPC. actually have a reciever and swervo in it. The ride height is set on full off road so I'll have to get it down some and paint up the full BUTTS(tm) body too. Cant run a poser and get any respect around here. I still need a few front end parts to get it Buttseyfied. Read that as "set up to where no one but I can drive it". Theres a cap tire track an hour and a half from me where I'd really like to try the longer wheelbase. In time it'll get run. Until then, Gentle men you have five seconds or less. Beeeeep!

JPH Racing
03-06-2004, 02:31 PM
Mr. Butts: For your next paint job, can I make you a sticker that reads: "I like big Butts" LOL Well, I finally got my OPC together and it will hit the track tomorrow. Gonna run it in modified, so we'll see what happens!

BMC: I run STD for stock and 19, and usually run offset for modified. I just like the way the cars feel like that. Although, to be honest, I think either way can be set-up to go equally as fast. Some guys say, offset for flat tracks and STD for banked tracks. But it's one of those things that everyone does, until someone goes faster with the other set-up!
Maybe some of the other Maverick Guys, who run on very short tracks, can add their opinions here ....

AC: Nice run on Sunday in the main! Got your first win right off the bat! That stock race was fun to watch. Glad to have you into the electric oval scene. How did it feel not having to wipe oil and fuel off your oval car!?!

Maverick Crew: Everyone seems awful quiet lately, what's up? Many readers, but not many posters ... Not even a few responses to BMC's question on std vs offset pods ... Hmmm?

On a side note: I got a chance to run my OPC on Sunday. Ran it in Modified. It ran very well, and responded to changes predictably (no surprise). I ran the wheelbase a little longer than usual, offset rear pod, batteries one hole forward, and liked the feel it gave me. Best of all, it was fast!

Okay, I am looking for a new car to replace my L4. I have read the whole thread and am really interested in the Maverick 04 solid chassi. This car has a great pod and looks to me as a hyperdrive front end. Help......
