It isn't so much that they are running an opposite direction, they run the oval track www.radicalricks.com

We haven't vacuumed it yet, this will be the first time, but from what I have heard it will be loose. if you look on the front page of the website, you can see Nick's car going down the back stretch. That is where we normally run. This wednesday, in order to get a corner, never mind a good one, we had to run about a foot or so away from the back wall.

Should we vacuum it every week to at least keep it consistant?

Jake: The Team associated race is on March 22 I believe. The signup sheet doesn't have the date  Here it is though:
http://www.radicalricks.com/USOpenForm.pdf

The nats are April 16-18 at Rick's as well. The track may also be made shorter and the infield made into more of an oval than a football. New carpet will also be laid down.

I'm looking for the length of the slot or how long the cell can be. Thanks!

Also, has anyone run 6 cells instead of 5?

hank on my xlrw battery tray the receiver pack area has only 2 small slots for the strapping tape. other wise there isn't battery slots milled out for the little cells.. i wish there was though..i could run 6 cells flat on it if i needed to do so..but i haven't tried 6..right now i use 5 laying flat and use shoo goo to hold them in place. the area was designed for a hump style receiver pack though. thus i have to use shoo goo to hold them in place. i want the weight low as possible.. hope this helps..again the width could be a tad over half an inch..otherwise the pack would start to rub the side of the battery pack..

i kniow this isnt a carpet thread, but for the guys asking about vacuming... i run at trackside in wisconsin.. we hosted the 2003 carpet nats... for oval we get one day a week to run. the other 6 days is touring cars... we vacume every single week.... there is so much stuff on the track after 6 days of touring, there is no traction in the turns... after we vacume the track, it is very loose.... but after maybe 6 or 7 guys run on it , it starts to fall in... by the time the first qual is run there is plenty of traction..

mobile mike, if only oval is run on the track at rick i wouldnt think vacuming every week is a must... the only reason we do is like i say the stuff on the track after touring... WHY are u guys laying new carpet down already????? carpet should last a long time... after an event like nats there will be such a groove in the carpet, it wil look terible.. why not wait till after... just curious...

What is the big difference between the 04 Maverick and the 04 OPC?

KOZ
01-23-2004, 02:53 PM
Dimples
The opc is a one piece chassis and the 04 version is a slider car, tunable battery placement and a fully adjustable front suspension plate to make fine adjustments in wheelbase, offsetting the front track etc..

Take a look at our Performance Pod as well.

Mike: How's the turnout looking for the Associated race? I'm sure the Nats will be a packed house ... I may try to fit that one into my schedule.

Everyone: What other big races are happening in 2004 that Maverick Racers will be attending?

the most important thing for all florida racers will be the new oval series..a 6 race all indoor carpet point series to determine the best the state of florida has to offer! this year we will be crowning champions in a few classes! lots of sponsors on board as well as some nice trophies to the winners..

the speedway spectacular is held every year in florida inside the DAYTONA INTL. SPEEDWAY right on turn 4 ....this would be a nice race to win also..

race rock oval champs held at the famous race rock cafe on intl. drive in orlando is also a great event to win..

roar region 4 oval champs held at rpm speedway will also be a big win!

gonna be a good year to own a oval car in florida!

From what I am hearing, the 200 entry limit will most likely be reached, or at least close to it. Right now I believe we have 70-100 people signed up, not including associated drivers.

No word on the Nat's yet, but I am sure that will be packed also.

I setup the Maverick for flat track last night, and during practice it sounded perfect through the corners.

Katfish: I wish I could travel out there for each one of your series races! It would be a blast! I know you'll get good support from the local racers.

Don: Daytona would be a fun event also. Tough competition out there, that's for sure!

Mike: Thanks for the info. I think the Associated race is too close to the Snowbirds for me to attend. But, I'm give serious thought to the Nats.

Anyone thinking about attending the Roar Nats at Tri-Clone? I know KOZ has booked his flights and he's ready to go!

Also, does anyone have any word on where the NORRCA Nats will be held in 2004?

A word from the east coast,

I debuted my '04 last night at Ultra Racing in Ohio. I ended up with TQ and a second place finish in the A main in stock. Had second place by about a straighaway and got tangled up with a lapper with about 2 minutes left. Was reeling him back in, but ran out of time. Oh well, that's racin! Was really impressed with the new car, and think there is still more turn speed to be found. Lookin forward to makin some changes and headin back for another run!

Well I'm not a maverick pilot but I do know a few. Today(sunday, jan the 25th) at the hobby world superspeedway in Jacksonville Fl. Mavericks Phillip Owen took down another win in the hotly contested 19t class and broke his own track record in doing so. Oops! He was running the 03 car thankfully for the rest of us there so we were able to stay on the same lap with him. No telling what the 04 would've done, As of today there have only been 5 35 lap runs and Phil has three of them. Todays was a 35 4:00.51. HW is a big track being an outdoor 365' asphalt facility(yep we race outdoors in january here in Fl.)so dont let the low lap count fool ya. He was flying with only one 7.0 lap and If i'm not mistaken(Duh! he wouldnt be the record holder) he's the only driver so far to be that consistant. His average for the entire run was 6.871 sec's per lap. This that on on a track that before a recent repave was considered unattainable and 7.6's were the normal fast times. Congrats Phil and now you really have the bullseye on your back  that is if I can just catch Tom Marlowe now. Huh? Did I just say that?

Todd: Glad to hear the first night on the new chassis went well for you! Sounds like the end results were good, even if the win "got away".

Mike: Thanks for the K&N update! Also, glad to hear you're making improvements in your set-up and that you're excited about this weekends race. Let us know how you do.

Doug: Thanks for the info! Phil has had his Maverick on rails at Hobbyworld lately! 36 laps is gonna be in the books soon, with Phil's name on the record!

Jake: Car was felt perfect this week. Clock time wasn't perfect though. So, i put the Blacks and whites back on and it was close to my other car, but it needs a few more runs still to get it there.

I can't believe those tires felt and sounded so good but they ran so slow? Oh well! Doesn't matter because I know these tires run better.

Also, do you have any 27mhz FM receievers in stock? I need one for an M8. (I forgot wether or not you could interchange brand of recievers.)

JPH Racing
02-01-2004, 12:49 AM
Mike: Are you cleaning your tires with motor spray, or dish soap, in between runs? If not, the tires will get soft and sticky after a run or two and slow your car down. It will feel planted, but your laptimes will not be as fast. You'll easily be able to tell if this is happening, if the laptimes drop when you put on a new set of tires (but you haven't changed anything else on the car.)

No 27 Airtronics RX's in stock, but we can order it for you. Send me an e-mail.

When the tires came off the truer and they were beady, is was hanus fast. Then as the tire smoothed out it was still fast but not as fast. Starting to think I should have tried 3 magentas and a purple instead.

The part I don't understand is that the motor did not sound strained at all through the corner. I rolled it out the same. Starting to think I should have tried 3 magentas and a purple instead? I think I may be done playing around with the natural rubber tires for a while though. The exotics seem to work fine.

I know the blacks and whites work, and I am going to try blacks and greys next. I hate tires!

I won't be going to Maine, Manchester instead. www.manchesterhobbies.com .

Mike: Phil's suggestion is a good one. You can also try some BSR tires, double pink LF, double pink rears, and a purple RF. But don't forget to clean the tires in between runs, before applying traction compound, and a good cleaning after the raceday is done.

Snowbirds Update, Weds evening:

Well, we're getting ready to head out to Charlie's steak House for dinner. 50+ oval racers will be invading the place!

The race is going well. Outstanding turnout. Mike Boylan and crew are doing a fantastic job as usual.

The track has above the normal bite for only being run on for three days. I mean, there's a black groove that looks like asphalt with a gray border. It's totally hooked up beyond words. This year the track has a few more bumps. Put that together with the high bite, and everyone is searching for a good set up.

Personally, I'm struggling. Thanks to an error on my part, UPS "misplaced" the box with my car and radio. It's safely back in Rohnert Park at the Hobby Shop now, and I've had to build up a new car, completely. Needless to say, I haven't had much track time and I'm struggling to find a setup and learn the driving line. Things will get better, I'm sure!

Dave is running his mod car the best I've seen him drive in 3 years of attending the Snowbirds race. We're tuning well together and he's got a positive outlook. We'll see if he can get the laptimes needed to run up front, but so far things are going well for Dave this year.

Tinman's car's are doing very well. In 19, his car is turning flat and has the speed. He's only got to drop a 1/10th or two and he'll be in the hunt. In Mod, he smile on his face is worth the trip. Straight away speed is good, handling is coming along.

Katfish has got a great handling car, but we're unsure on the speed. It looks a little slow, but it very smooth so it's deceiving. His touring car is going really well. He's 19 Turn is going well. He Mod car needs some rip speed, but that will come in time.

We haven't seen Phil yet! Hopefully he'll get here tonight or in the morning.

Danny from BigDogRC has his stock car running well. A little tight in the turns, but that will get tuned out soon.

All in all, it's been an interesting race so far. The on-road guys are nuts on this tight track. The 6 cell mod sedans are sooo fast! On the oval, the 6 cell mod guys are having trouble laying it down and making run time. Sean Cochran from ASC is really fast. Andy Mac is looking good, but not there yet. Josh Cyrul is working the bugs out of his new ride (building cars non stop). Danny B looks good, but smoked a ESC in spectacular fashion last night. The Silva crew is doing well, but having tire trouble. They seem to have it figured out, but time will tell.

Ok, that's it for now.
Jake out!
