Might as well start a new thread for this track. This is a by invitation only track. But it's easy to get the invitation. This Sunday I'll take a measurement of the tri-oval track and list the center line. This is a first class track that looks as professional as you would want a track to look . They will in the near future add a road course section in the middle.Presently the three top drivers are turning 3.9-4.1 second laps with the 4 cell 19 turn cars(58 laps T.Q). In Legends the T.Q is 50 laps as is the Spec trucks.
There is plently of power- tables and chairs. It will be a ROAR santioned track real soon so you'll have to be a ROAR member to race and practice.
The tires used(foam only) for the 4 cell class is for starters: Purple fronts and purple rears. Some are using Red fronts. Tires will be available this weekend(Sunday)at the track by someone I'm sure. The computer will also be up and running this Sunday with organized runs starting around 12-1pm.
If you don't know the Carriggs they are some of the nicest people you'll ever run into and they like to race R/C's.You'll also have to put up with the #3 shrine they have. It's a fun afternoon racing with some really good folks.Information about Palm Valley Raceway -directions and phone number can be faxed or e-mailed : just leave a message.

Katfish,
Sounds like the daytona crew needs to make a trip to jax to run the high banked tri-oval. I'm gonna run sunday and I'll give ya a shout!
Greg:thumbsup:

They don't sugar water cement. They run purple front or comb of red and purple and purple rears. You don't need any traction additives.

He's done it to me twice last Sunday!! Yes,there's a lot of Earnhardt memorabilia in there that I've never even knew existed! See you all in 2 weeks! I've gotta get this car ready for Tuffy's!

So,.....just how does one go about getting an invitation? I bought a Legends car, built it last night,.....just got to get the charger, and some radio gear,.......talked to George last night,he said that there was some really tight racing there! Sounds like fun! A question,....what keeps the plastic from separating from the aluminum on the newer Legends axle hub,in a crash? Inquiring minds want to know. Thanks!

Joespec - We've got a spot just waiting for you.The new hubs work fine- no problems. You coming out Sunday?Bring your spec Car/truck so we can come up with the rules. Frank will be there with some truck bodies already done.I can bring my loaner Legends for you to race. I would suggest bring your batteries and motor- yours are probably better than what's in the car. You know you can call if you'd like and ask questions.

Oh yeah! I've got today to do the honey-do's,and tomorrow I'll be there,.....even if just to see the place.George said that it is great there! He also said that the surface preparation was very smooth! Do you take a check for roar membership? If so,...please bring me an application,....and I can join tomorrow. Oh yeah,......good job on the track record! On the oval no less,......LOL,I love it:D

See you tommorrow and I'll have some forms with me and we take checks.
I'm serious about the loaner car - you can take the stuff out of it and use it in yours if you like.

Bullfrog, just curious why is it foams only?Seems like caps would be so much better on 'crete unless its rough surface. Most 'crete tracks i've been on caps last forever. Thanks

It's their track and that's what they want to run.The concrete has also been sealed.

Exactly! Caps can be too costly for the average weekend racer to collect a few different compounds-even though they last longer than foams. Plus they can be fickle to different (and sometimes drastic) temp changes throughout the day, such as the temps up here lately! The foams have a bit more consistency, but that all depends on car setup & driving style, too!

From my observations this afternoon, this track has got to be one of the finest short-tracks I have ever seen! Bill let me use his thunder truck for a heat race, since my stuff is still in the process of being collected, and the track is wonderful! It is hard to envision running wide open,on a short-track,and still having to pay very careful attention to your line, and traffic,......but this track has it all! The banking seems to be just right, the distance exciting, and the crowd,.....the usual cast of characters that are always a privilage to be around! Can't wait to get all of my stuff together! Thanks to Bill for letting me use his truck,Thanks to Tuffy for the invite! One thing that may in fact be the most important thing about this venue,.....short-tracks always breed the best racing, but the expense of racing is alot less for all,for it doesn't matter how fast you are,or how much you spend to get fast,if you don't have your ride dialed in,you're just going backwards.Car set-up,and driver skill is the biggest thing here,.... :D

It looks like the cars are doing 80 into turn 1. Its the 2nd concrete track I've ever run on. And its Phenomenal! In my opinion. We all had a great time today. At least until Joe made us all think he was going to run the siren on his legend car LOL. Anyway we all had a good time BIG Thanks go's to Tuffy and Family.

Careful Katfish we might take away your invite. The paper work has been signed and will be mailed away Monday. What paperwork- the ROAR santioning. You soon have to be a ROAR member to run at Tuffy's excellent facility. The track records in 1/10th 4 cell 19T- is still 58 laps and Legends increased to 52 laps.Another fun day racing.

lololol jarc! i fell off my chair! ouch! yeah thats what you(not me) are! glad to hear the motor runs well for ya! i have a few gm 3's i'm going to give away at minnreg. all monster stocks or v10's for me now. again i will state this one last time....the minnreg warmup race jan 11th will be the best time you will have to get a car dialed in for the birds. if you have never raced on carpet or you dont know how the practice sessions work for the birds you will be in for a big surprise. you will get maybe 8 minutes every 6 hours to run your car at the birds. you do not get alot of track time for set up. minnreg if you show up at 2 pm on friday you will have 12 hours of open practice to dial in and try some things. i highly recomend you get the flu or something friday the 10th and show up for track time.

Sorry, man! I know you're just curious- nobody was trying to diss you! Actually,I'm curious myself to figure out why no caps either, but that's what the owners said. Maybe they've tried it & liked foams better?? There's a little bit of sand in it,but not as much as a sidewalk. Tire wear is pretty good on the foams, though.

George- I won the B main in 1/10th with Frank Pupello in second. In the A main I believe it was The Bear and Danny followed by Tuffy? In Legends it was Joe Malin with the win with Bear in second? Spec truck it was Frank Pupello beating me with the help of Ernie knocking by batteries out.He didn't thread the needle to good on that last pass.I left at 7:30 and Greg was still there trying to dial his car in.Hope he's still not there? It was another fun weekend but I won't be there this weekend got to race left and right at Minregg. The computer is there if Tuffy remembers the quick crash course on how to operate it.
See you in two.

katf1sh, try our web at www.teamautohaus.com

Im the owner of the Jacksonville store. We opened in april of this year. We are mostly NITRO based and have a crapload of after market parts for nitro and SOME stock and after market electric. When we opened the shop we decided to go with just Cars and Trucks. No planes, trains, boats, or static models... BTW, ever see a train race? :D

As i got further into it i started running electric at HW....then carpet for a SHORT time... and seen all the things I had been missing as a Nitro driver. I started to bring in more electric parts. We have a ways to go as far as parts on the walls for Oval, however we are slowly changing that. I bring in more and more oval/touring electric as the budget allows. So call before you trek alllll thhhhheeee waaaaayyyy up here and make sure i got what ya need.

So any suggestions would be great to hear! We have a parking lot race ever 2nd and 4th saturdays at K-mart. www.nflrc.com has the club info and track times. Great thing about Tuffys is its a sunday event..woooooohoo... i can play on sundays when i aint workin the shop! Hrmm.... 3 races in one weekend to much???? NAAAAAAA!! just right!

bill if your talking about ed's stuff? i dont think i could do that. i doubt you can either. jay i'm not sure if i ever got to meet you at cpt but you sound like you got a plan! if you stock the shop with common parts for the oval guys. wolfe, irs, raceway and a few others they will buy local. find out what they are using at tuffy's and hooby world and stock those foams. sounds like a good racer base starting to fire up in j ville again. the daytona gang will come up after the birds for some fun.

The track at Tuffy's is awesome! It's unbelievable to run on! The Roar thing is just for insurance,....protection for the track owners, and for the people that race there. From the Hobby World angle, after everyone ran there for years, they weren't receptive to being told they couldn't race until they paid the member fee,......Tuffy's,however,......he is a dedicated racer, who has made a big investment,to have a very nice facility,in his own back-yard! If he feels it's in his own interest to have the protection that roar provides, then we can nothing but respect this,.......I got my membership, the first day that I went there, for I would not want to miss an opportunity to race with everyone,on one of the finest short-tracks I've ever seen! Tuffy got roar sanction for the track too! There are certain criteria that a track has to meet,to get this approval,so the fact that he has this, can give you some indication of all the work that Tuffy, and all the Carrigg's have put into this track. I have always resisted joining roar for the last few years, not for the money, but for the proliferation of technology that went unchecked by roar,..you and I both know that it doesn't have to cost as much as it does sometimes to race. But to be realistic,we wouldn't have all the places to race that we have,if it weren't for roar, and the insurance that they provide for all of us. We use bumpers, right? we put capacitors on our motors, right? we use different forms of protection,so that we can race better, and safer,.......roar insurance is another form of protection, that's all! I still have my objections to the principles of technology expansion in R/C,there needs to be a perpetual"sportsman" class, stick packs, fiberglass chassis, zero degree motors,etc....whatever can make the competition reasonable, and affordable.I think that roar should have took these concerns to heart, long before they got out of hand,.....however,the protection in case something happens at the track is important,so,.....I've got mine! Sure would like to see you there someday to race with us,I know that you would love this track! Hobby World has gotten brighter too! New lights! Awesome!

Bill hit this one on the head,.............FUN!! Now we have both,a track that you can go wide open,to the limits of your nerves,or wallet, and a track that is nothing but fun!! Tuffy's made me re-think my former opinion about banked tracks,......not that an old dog would change his mind about anything, but Tuffy's is definitely the exception to the rule!!
