Hey Katfish- I can't believe I going to say this but right now the state series has made me a convert to OVAL racing.Fun factor 100% .Besides my road car works great on Tuffy's oval I did 52 laps today.Bear however did a new track record of 58. The Legends also turned in a new reord of 51 laps.

Just to let you know-Thanks again for selling me your former KGB ride! It got into the A-main,but finished last due to a bad start (spun at the start!). A tiny bit of rear steer didn't hurt, either!!

The attitude at Tuffy's is relaxed.......Just some good old fashion racing.Yea you'll need a Legends to get the entire feeling of racing there.I'm not the king at legends it's either Joe Malin or Bear or even Bucci. I still don't have the LTO in Legends mastered like road course. But I'm working on it!

Now now,.......ya'll don't let Bill fool you too badly,......he is a veteran racer,....with very good skills, and he can drive anything if he puts his mind to it. I actually showed up with a car to run at Tuffy's last sunday,........and had a blast!!! Didn't fare too well in the main,......broke,....but was cheap to fix,and will be back next sunday. Found some speed, not enough for Joe-mama,of course, but I'm going to be in the hunt,.......anyone could get a bumper, right? Scuttle-butt in the pits should come to pass that we might have a 4-cell stock class there soon,.....good to see Goergia Ford Fan there last sunday,...See Ya:thumbsup:

Joespec-
I'll be trying a stock motor this Sunday. I'll try to have it on the timing system during practice so we could see what the times are like! Either that or do one race w/the rest of 19-turn field and compare from that. IMHO,it should work really well! We'll see! It would be a good deal for those just starting to get their cars set-up for banked oval. Mine's hooked up right now-just gotta nail that line every lap! Hmmmm-sounds just like CPT all over again, doesn't it???

Well my antique is going thru some changes for this weekend.A totally new set-up. The same could be said for my legends that died at the 3 minute mark but still putted around the track.I don't think my order of Legends parts will be here this weekend. They are doing inventory and would not ship until they were finished. Supposedly today?I've just got one bumper and one front axle and no front steering blocks.

Cool!! I talked to metrodog last sunday, and he told me that He might part with his older hyper-drive,after the 'birds,......so there is my next class,in about a month or so,this will give me enough time to save up for cells, going to get the charger this weekend! I'll be out there soon, but for now,I got to get my Legends to the front of the pack,......at least for a lap or two! hmmmmmm? 4-cell open mod.? Sounds crazy,......but possible! I'll just leave that train wreck for the "pro" drivers, but if you want to run this,...I'll be glad to bring my catchers mit,to catch all of your parts for you,.....you know,to save a buck or two.....

Yeah,I think Metrodog will help you catch my parts, too. He has prior experience catching my stuff! Ask him 'bout my roof slide from turn 2 to turn 3 @ Hobby World one night! Shoulda had video that night! Or ask Tom what Bill Elliott's car looks like when flying 1' from your head!

You have hit on what sounds like a great idea! Bill has been trying to get the thunder trucks running, but the fact is,with the heavier chassis, the Legends run faster than the trucks, and they both use the same gear,ie.....motor and batteries. A "4-cell stock class" could very well use any stock motor, and any 4-cell pack, with truck bodies, and any chassis could be used without too much tuning, for the stock motor should keep things close. Perhaps if Bill doesn't have any luck creating thunder trucks with the spec motor and 4-cell spec packs,we could use the power increase to bring this class to life! Reality,.....we have Legends,we have 4-cell,19 turn mod,we need a middle of the road class too! There are alot of people who have some of what they need to run this class right now, those who are somewhat intimidated by the mod class, those who are looking to settle into a class that would be fun,but not cut-throat,.....Hey Bill, jump on into this conversation, and tell us what you think? We have Legends, and that's pretty much regulated enough for all,we have the 19 turn mod,so what about a 4-cell stock class, that uses trucks?

Bullfrog!! I was looking through the Bolink website,.....and I remembered that you and I talked before about alternatives to the spec chassis, that sometimes is hard to get ahold of,.......look at the Bolink Touring pan chassis? From the pictures on the site,.....basic chassis, fuel tubing for dampening, just like a spec car!! The sport 2000 has nothing for dampening, but a rubber grommet, both of these chassis could be used in theory,in the truck class, for they don't have any further advancements than the spec car! Just a thought! Always open to ideas, especially cheap ones!

I can not take credit for the 4 cell stock Nascars- Leon wants that class. I still would like the spec truck class. Weve got a few new gears to try out this weekend.I find out next week about that narrow spec touring car chassis you were talking about.see you later.

How about any non-sliding pan chasis with spec 6-cell pack and spec motor, with open gear ratio. We could also keep spec tires for cost efficiency? Tell me what you think.

To take advantage of the cheap batteries and motors, with a chassis that is tunable,is a good idea! Not only from the standpoint of cost-effectiveness,but the fact that there are alot of people out there who already have some,or most of the equipment that you speak of! Believe it or not,a spec car would be competitive in this class too,as well as any pan chassis car, depending on the experience of the driver. To keep everything separate,as in,not appearing to be just the same thing,we could use truck bodies, this would create separate tuning goals,......no wings, just a rear deck spoiler, that will make everyone pay attention to tuning,no matter how much power you extract out of cheap gear. I'm all for it:thumbsup:

Joe-
I used to run them @ HW in 4-cell 19t. I've been too lazy to even run them nowadays but I'm gonna start using them again. Curious to see how they would do in a 4-cell stock scenario! Street Spec rules says very little about the use of them. I don't know about the Legends rules. It could help some, but not sure about their legality in Legends.

Dan-
How much are you asking for one rcvr pack? Bring one out this Friday @ HW!

The stock classes. The reason: you need to get as much power to the motor as possible, and with the reciever pack it turns out that way. Basicallly.:dude:

To further back up what Bullfrog is trying to convey,.....the Legends, street spec classes are racing returned to it's more basic form,.....you know, back in the day! If it weren't for the cost-controlled,basic classes coming to this town, when they did,.....it's a good possibility that none of you would even be racing anything now! The reason I'm saying this is that before all of this,....several years ago,....the only thing running was 7-cell dirt oval, open mod!! The racing died,....totally!! We started back with Legends, and mini-cups,which are a 1/12 scale version of the Legends car,......now,we are back to the expense, and the crazyness of it all,but we can even see the changes today,.....in "4-cell"racing,and in the perserverence of spec racing!! There are some classes that we cannot change,....for that would ruin everything in time, and since people like BigDogRC and metro,HurricaneRacing, and others have chosen to try to make an additional income out of this hobby/sport,it would be wise to leave certain classes alone! We have already tampered with street spec enough, they should've never been raced on the super-speedway,....but now that the camel's nose is in the tent,we have to just keep on beating it back. Sorry, but no reciever packs in the cheap classes! That's why you have the 4-cell mod class! experimentation, right?

Not trying to slam,or inflame you,you are a nice guy,and your driving has improved alot! I think that everyone can remember back to R/C basics 101,.....it was car maintainence, driver practice, and battery maintainence,.......ie,not over-driving your packs,so you could finish the race. These are things that the new drivers need to learn, and that is also part of the whole R/C thing,....what we don't need is to hit the rookies with still another thing that they have to buy, just to be competitive, another thing that they need to worry about, when most of them can't remember to do what they need to do now. Those reciever packs are a good idea!......for the more experienced drivers, racing faster cars!

BullFrog
01-18-2003, 10:20 AM
Another thing about the reciever packs - good luck. They usually were more of a pain in the neck then they were worth. But that's for each diver to decide on (except the spec classes). If the amount of power you use for your electronics is that critical with 3000's-3300's you've got a real problem. But that's my 2 cents worth. See you guys tommorrow----burrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

The whole issue of reciever packs has to do with one thing,......SPEED! And that is the mindset of most of the guys we race with. With the extra pack, this devotes all of the power, from the main pack,to the motor, not the reciever and servo itself,I guess the last minute of the run is supposed to be faster or something? It might be important to know just how many milli-amps the reciever and servo actually draw, ina four minute race? Does anybody know? Does the use of a reciever pack increase your "useable voltage" over that time as well? All we can know for sure is,if there is anyone out there who wants to try anything he can,to go faster than everyone else, technology will advance! Now,.....who do we know around here that might want to go faster? Hmmmmmmmm?

cneyedog
01-18-2003, 12:01 PM
in any 4 cell class, whether it be stock, 19T or mod. A receiver pack is a good idea. You already down 2 cells from 6 cell .... so you want maximum voltage to the motor to go as fast as possible. Katfish can tell you that a receiver pack in a 4 cell stock car....especially when you "nuke" the pack to get it fast at the beginning of a run is invaluable during the last minute of the race.
I'll have a receiver pack in my 4 cell stock car at the snowbirds, besides robbing power from your main battery pack, you need extra weight in the car to get to the proper weight in 4 cell, you might as well have it be useful. I put the reciver and receiver pack as far front and to the left as possible.... it helps the car handle better.

Tuffy's track will be closed this weekend. They are going on a family outting. The racing this past sunday saw the new class of 4 cell stock hit the track. It looked impressive. We also has the 19 t 4 cells speed demons as well as the popular Bolink Legends. The experiment on the gearing for the spec trucks seems to be solved( 64p 120x40 or 48p 81x27).But we are still fine tuning this class. Also the ROAR memberships will be required after the break.
By the way it really wasn't that cold, they didn't even fire up the heater.See you in two weeks..........

not only to be racing at Tuffy's,but I actually led a few laps in legends, not for long though,Tuffy and Leon came from two laps down, and a few crashes later,to win the Legends! 4-cell stock was a great class from the start! Faster than the old-timers,but more sane than the 4-cell,19 turn mod. Will anyone ever beat bear? Don't know, but he is the only one I know who can come off the track with a frown, after he beat everyone by a few laps, just because he didn't beat himself. All in all,a great day!! Every day racing should be like this one! With everyone grinning on the way home:D
