great racing every body. I had lots of fun this weekend. the 4 cell stock was a good turn out, good clean racing. I my self actually finished a race tonight. Last week end i only ran 49 laps but with Jason Crists, Bob from detriot, and Rockin Bob13 gave me some advice. I turn my car around and ran a 56 laps at 4:00.75 I have to thank these guys for helping me out.

And the guys i ran against tonight good racing to all of you. Hope to see you next week same place same time.

a few racers talked to dale lastnight and dale came up with a 4-cell sportsman class for the guys that are off a few laps ....break out will be running more that 55 laps for 2 or 3 consecutive weeks .....

Well Kevin....if there is no 4 cell sportsman class formed for those of us that are struggling like myself....I'm done and won't be back racing at the Fort. I sat down over dinner Saturday night, and all day today and came to this conclusion. If no sportmen 4 cell, my stuff including my pit tools will be going up on the auction block! After 16 years of this, and nights like saturday so far this season it ain't worth it. It wasn't fun dealing with somone talking crap to me on the driver's stand, seeing my car basicly go nuts on me hitting the wall head on full bore......and some other things I car not to discuss......

If and when my stuff hits the auction block, serious inquiries only. No looky loos...no trades..and no I pay you later crap....all prices firm!!!!!!!! If you want it bad enough, show the bling bling and it is yours.......otherwise it will all go to EBAY and the highest bidder wins.........

alright i'll be there in a couple weeks and looks like i'll be running 4 cell sportsman with ya
the last time i was there i only ran 55 in the main........

mover over kris here i come

on a serious note
Kris what are you thinking ?
you know as well as i do that changes don't happen over night
give things time and they will work out for the better

give Dale time to get rules and info on another class and the time to get it started.

i agree 100% with you on starting a new class for those who are off the pace
we both know if thats what class you start in you won't be it long

so anyway i'll see everyone one at end of month .

Quick question the Indiana state race has 4 cell stock as a class...
is there going to be a sportsman stock or all the 4 cell stock guys running together ?

thanks

if there is no 4 cell sportsman class formed for those of us that are struggling like myself....I'm done and won't be back racing at the Fort. Whats the point of starting a new class for the guys that are struggling? The guys that are not struggling are in the A main. Then the ones who were close are in the B and if you're struggling, you probably end up in the C. Thats how its supposed to work. When I first started in Oval, I wasn't in the A main at all for a couple years. I remember being extremely happy to win the B. Lately, if a group of guys aren't winning, they start a new class so that they don't have to try very hard to win.
Kris, you're a great guy, and I'm not pointing this toward you. I've seen tracks go down because of too many classes. This is how it starts. If 5 of you pull out of stock and make a new class, than the remaining guys in stock are possibly going to have the "struggling" guys in their A main because there's only 5 left in stock. Pretty soon everybody has a class, and theres only A mains left. Everybody get sick of it, and they either quit, or find a place to race where there won't be these "struggling" guys in their main.
I know its tough trying to move up in a class where the top guys have $3 million worth of equipment, but it's all in the chassis setup anyway. As an example, I loaned a 19 turn motor to a guy Friday that i haven't run or rebuilt in a year and a half (Paradox can, machine wound arm, junk brushes). I used the latest greatest combo of a motor. Our cars were extremely close and he even ended up beating me with that old a$$ motor. Both of us had new batteries. It was driving and chassis setup that beat me.

Kris, you've given a lot to the hobby, and don't quit, just work on it!!!!!!!
I know you can do it, bud. You're just frustrated right now.

jason crist

Dave Z I agree the only way guys get better is run with the better drivers, but
the guys who are off the pace shouldn't be running in mains where there are 4-5 lap difference.

this i believe is the problem here
you have 12 guys running in 4 cell stock
and 5 are 3-4 laps faster than the field.
so if you just take those 5 to A main then that makes 7 to the B main.
or do you take 6 and 6 to the mains and then you have the one driver who thinks he can win it in the first turn and takes out 2-3 cars.
So there race is over, because if you've raced anytime in 4 cell stock any little wreck means your chasing.

thanks

Why not get a few practice nights in? Thursday, Friday? I understand how busy life makes us all, but all it would take is one good night of testing to get your cars to 55+ laps. Then all you would have to do is spend Saturdays fine tuning for those extra laps. Preperation is the key, if you do your homework I gaurantee it will pay off.

Now I am by no means a chassis man but after 2 weeks of ever running a pancar on carpet I have manged to pull a 57 lap run. Luck or not and as I have told both you Kris and Kevin, I am more then willing to offer any kind of help I can. Any given Thursday I can be at the track to help you wrench. There just isn't enough time to get it right on Saturday. Email me or call and I will be there.

As far as a sportsman. Why not just do some kind of sorting after each set of heats. I know it is more work for Dale but overall it would take less time and effort then running a seperate class. Also what if you had a good night and happen to luck out on the setup, wouldn't you like to have a shot at the A-main drivers? Any driver will get faster when running with faster drivers. I personaly like to see at what part of the track I am losing to the other drivers. Entry? Apex? Exit? Gears? Comparing laps for laps isn't going to help you tune your car to be better for a entry or exit problem.

wow see what i'm missing.lol..... kris it took me a couple of years before i was even close. take it easy. my best advice would be shut the mouth, and open your ears. most of the "fast guys" will help you..... that is IF YOU LISTEN. you have one of the best cars on the market. learn how to use it. i am not slamming you just being brutally honest. chris good advice......

Kris!!!!!!!!
What the hell?????? I can't believe what I am seeing on here!!!!!! Now why would you want to hang it up... I just met you the last season at the velo and I know you have common sense that it takes time to get things the way you want it.... I know when you 1st ran at the velo you didn't run a 17 lap run 1st time around did you??? If you did... you got dayum lucky!!!! I know it gets frustrating but man I know you got the right stuff and I know you got the capablities... u just need patience!!!! Trust me it will come!!!! Shoot I remember when Hobbytown was running... it took me alot of runs just to get 4 laps just to be a contender.. It took alot of practice and getting to know how your fellow racers are willing to work together to keep it a clean run.. It takes a clean run to have a good race.. Also try to stay consistance on your laps times.. the more.. the better... I know you are a competitive racer and I know you can do it..Learn from the big guns who are fast... I'm not a big gun... but I can be fast... See you in 2 weeks.. who knows I might need your help getting fast!!!!

Metal

what you said hit it on the money.

if you guys didn't read his responce go back a page and read it.

The last thing on that would be you can't re-sort after every run, but you the person putting heats together know who's fast and who's off the pace.
Don't put them in the same heat. Then after the 2nd heat re-sort.
If a guy over a few week period looks like he's getting faster move him or her up.

Kris
Hey since you run a KSG i would get in touch with Dusty Kemp (National Champ) since he runs the same car he would help ya with a set up.

If not get inn touch with me or i'll be up there in a couple of weeks and we can talk.

Take this for what it's worth:

Sharing setups isn't the way to go!

8 times out of 10, taking one 'fast guy's' setup and slapping it on your car WILL NOT HELP! Everyone drives differently, and everyone needs to run a setup that tailors itself to their driving 'issues'. Mine, like most, is that I over drive the car; so putting a soft setup on the car would make the car pitch too much since the front springs would be constantly compressed. Besides, while you may think you have the 'whole' setup, you rarely if ever, get ALL of the information.

Instead, listen to what your car is telling you, try changes you are going to feel (2 rounds of wedge or 2 jumps of springs instead of just one), and most importantly, TAKE NOTES!!! You will never remember what you did to the car in this or that circumstance that made it do X Y or Z. Form your own opinion on what to do from trying things yourself.

Once you get close, FINE tune. Don't change 80 things at once, take baby steps. And for the sake of all things electric, quit paying attention to battery and dyno numbers. Work on driving a consistent line and the rest will come! And if all else fails, take a break and go play one of the NASCAR games on your Play Station. Don't laugh, it helps!!!

DaveW

Mark is 100% correct I have two cars that are nearly the same, but one of them is always faster or smoother than the other. It is very hard to copy someone else's setup and make it work for you.

bluelineracer
11-16-2004, 02:49 PM
all i ever did was follow dave whitesel real close and look at his setups. he was even so kind as to send me "the blue flame" up close.
one other secret.....dial in your radio. use the adjustments provided to suit your style. in my infinite wisdom, i thought a new high power digital servo was going to save the world for me.....i've got it tuned back to about 70% now as i can't hang on to it. really, 30 weight in the sides, blue springs,50 wt in the center with a sillver buggy spring, green r/f.red l/f, 8 inch rear width, white rears, green l/f,purple r/f....and that's the baseline for about any of these cars. my biggest training was a serious whipping in stock for 2 years by sonny b., then another year of 19 turn thrashing by monti. seems to be working. remember no individual is "better" than any other. some turn more laps, but there can't be shame in who beats who....as soon as you can accept that, the pressure is off.
