Krisfo 09-27-2004, 11:44 PM Ryan,
Rules for 6 cell pan are simple. Any tires...any ROAR REBUILDABLE stock 27 turn 24 degree motor, Nascar Body....wing or spoiler...back of body can be cut, bumper outline must remain visible, 42 oz weight minium, 4.25 in roof height measured between roof rails, and a minium of 3/16 ground clearance...........
I think I got that right .....RIGHT WALLY???????
And Scorgon........that cool man...glad it worked well....How you do for turnout???
Kris
scorgon 09-28-2004, 12:17 AM And Scorgon........that cool man...glad it worked well....How you do for turnout??? Kris
I believe it was about 25 entries someone can correct me if I am wrong, there were 7 touring cars. I should get bigger next year since the race went well and the weather was great..It wasn't like the PAL club with no side walls but still could use a divider down the middle to keep cars from cutting track.
microsprint15 09-28-2004, 03:50 AM Thanks...
Now, will anyone be running 6-cell pan????

Thanks for everyone that came to Huntington, In. to race. This was the largest race we have done. We gave trophies to the frist two places of every main. We had 30 cars for this race. We are very happy to let you know that we will be sending over $2000.00 to Kyle Petty's Victory Junction Gang Camp.
Again thanks to all that helped ( Ted, Mike, Big thanks to Barry, Greg, Candy, Martha and Zack ) to make this happen.

wallyworld 10-01-2004, 03:38 PM Class rules for Summit Raceway should be available early next week. Sorry about the delay. We're working with the other raceways to have common rules.
Hustler 10-07-2004, 01:11 PM Where is this big group of dedicated Summit oval guys? Y'all were pretty deep last year. Are you going to let this track be known as an on road track or did you forget it is October?

bluelineracer 10-08-2004, 09:39 AM hustler-
we're very aware it is october...and we're racing. got nothing but great things to say about summit. we("dedicated oval guys") enjoyed last year tremendously. we did, however, get frustrated as the local scene kept dwindling. it wasn't a fault of the track...just a lack of local oval racers. the only thing that keeps us from being there more often is that endless stretch of concrete called I-69. seriously, as it is nearly an hour for me to get to the north side of indy, then the additional time to get to ft. wayne, there were some nights i was lucky to be home by 3:30 am. and, being the way i am, i was in my church seat trying my best to be attentive during the sermon a few hours later. with all due respect, we know that touring cars drive the industry(well at least more than oval). we also know that we aren't all that great for part sales for the hobby shops(sponsored guys). but we do try and support the tracks and hobby shops however we can. right now we seem to be having a good time @ new castle. it's a reasonable drive for must of us and even allows the kentucky and ohio crowd to attend more easily. it's nuts to say....and some may freak out....but early on, one thing made the drive worthwhile...dave hill. i know, his later chapters got the best of a lot of people, but when we first started coming that guy ran the show through fast, entertained the crowd, and always provided for a relaxed, enjoyable environment. now i wonder if it was the budweiser talking :D anyway, i hope things work out well this season for summit. looking at the touring car #'s from last year, you've got your work cut out for you to build a strong "road course" crowd.....but it can happen. we'll try and get the oval crowd together for a roadie some time...we'll keep in touch.

alexaj46 10-08-2004, 10:45 AM Well put Dusty, Now I was one of the local drivers so I know the situation there. The first year had a lot of local drivers but for some unknown reason they did not come back the second year. So who attended the second year? mostly out of towners. Now Dusty is completely correct when he says racers will run at tracks that our closer and provide a good racing environment. Last year it was Fort Wayne, and now New Castle is providing a closer race venue with all the bell and whistles. Now having to drive two hours to race, I understand why drivers prefer to race closer to home. A bigger question to ask is where are all the road course guys? Later Jim

bluelineracer,
Very cool brotherman. I wasn't implying that just turning left means you can't read a calendar. I was talking about the "local" guys, where are they? I figured y'all road-dogs were going to drive to New Castle's new track, like 1 1/2 hours closer to you, no reason you shouldn't. The local scene was very dead without you guys and it is especially hard to grow a following without fast guys to lead.
Nick isn't suffering at the hobbyshop, so don't worry about that.
Hill was a trip, I have no problems with him. We drank a lot of beer and laughed many good time nights away. But you are right, he made this scene shake. If there isn't any competition up here why should you guys bother to show up? I know of several oval guys that live in town that don't run. I don't run oval because I can't race on Saturdays.
We have some hard core on road guys that will have this scene moving in no time, Tuesdays and Sundays. It shouldn't be that hard to get the oval rolling again too. So in summation, my comments were directed toward the LOCAL oval guys, not the Indy-area road dogs. Build it and they will come...
-Sean
bluelineracer 10-08-2004, 11:59 AM it's all cool. what you really don't want is us indy oval guys to get touring cars...unless you're in the lumber business.
where o where is "dynoman" nowadays?
Hustler 10-08-2004, 12:04 PM A bigger question to ask is where are all the road course guys? Later Jim
Jim,
This is the setup we all talked about having in Fort Wayne since SARC was at Holland Elementary and the Armory around 1996 or '97. Now we have it and no one shows? It is too early in the season to worry about this. Dale has a level head and will develop the scene. With a normal weekly schedule and a dedicated core of racers we will grow the track. The on road guys are still thinking it is summer, but they should be there this weekend. I unfortunately will not be there this Sunday.

The on road scene this year is going to feature 12th mod. I am bringing in some new blood for TC stock and we have just started a weird 19 turn F201 class. On road is going to shake it hard this year. If you feel the need to knock down walls turning both ways come on up! I'll help you knock 'em down too.
I just think that there are so many tracks that some of these guys would be more willing to come up here if the local scene was deeper and faster. Some of the fun of RC, and racing in general, is getting your proverbial shhhh-(stuff) together and going to other tracks to see how you stack up. If the Indiana oval tracks can enforce some common rules and classes then anyone could make a roadtrip and see what everyone else has. The more different people you race against, the faster you get.
Dynoman007 is MIA, last heard headed back down South. I tried to reach out but there was no response. Hope the world finds you well Dave! One of these days I'll get something more than an old Woods 12 oval and you guys can show me how to turn left sweepers.

alexaj46 10-08-2004, 01:15 PM Sean, your sooooo right, we waited for a long time to have a permanent track and I always said that both road course and oval guys need to support it. Remember this is the second time someone put in a permanent track in Fort Wayne. The last two years the oval guys have supported this track but I can’t say the same for the road course guys. I remember years ago we had twenty or more road course guy’s show up weekly. It would be nice to see that kind of turn out now. Do you know how many permanent road course tracks are there within a hour and a half of Fort Wayne? I count five permanent oval tracks within that area. The problem as I see it is more tracks less turn out at each track thus each track suffers. I do hope things work out in Fort Wayne and if I win the lotto I’ll move back….

We supported the track on the days we were allowed to run, but you remember what it is like on Tuesday nights. It is all hustle; wrench, run, marshall, wrench... not enough time for fun. Sundays will show who actually runs on road in the Fort and some of the Holland guys are coming back. Tuesday nights will be F1 and fun, Sundays will be serious. It's going to be a blast. I just wish the oval would pick back up, then we would definitely be in business. If Dale keeps a steady schedule of oval, off road and on road, we will be golden. He is a lot smarter than he looks (he HAS to be smarter than he looks!). J/K Dale! :jest: I didn't know you lived elsewhere Jim?
-Sean
alexaj46 10-08-2004, 04:16 PM Will I hope things work out but in the last two years there have been a lot of opportunities
for the on road guys to support this track. In the past they had Tuesday nights and weekends to run. Remember that Fort Wayne try to run road races on weekends before
and they quit because there wasn’t enough interest. Maybe things has changed lately and
road racing will make a comeback…
wallyworld 10-08-2004, 06:05 PM Hey guys. I heard about the good turnouts at New Castle. Butch and Burky are a couple of great guys and after putting in all the hard work over the years they deserve your support, just like you guys deserve a great raceway closer to home for supporting the hobby all this time. Because of the situation with the building they were in I know they went through a tough period and I am happy for them now. I know I have said it before on the forum but thanks to you guys because without your support I'm not sure we would have made it. But I would be a fool to think it would continue on that way. Summit Raceway will always continue to be a multi-purpose facility for RC oval, on-road, off-road, monster truck, and slotcars as long as I run it because I enjoy it all to much ( MY POOR WIFE). The Indiana raceways are working together to promote RC racing and hopefully make it grow for this area. So far the other track owners and Greg June have been great to work with so I believe oval racing is going to have a great future. Thanks
Krisfo 10-09-2004, 03:04 AM I agree with all of you. You all have good points....but one man doesn't make a racetrack....it takes all men and women to make a track!
However, I stepped up to the plate to do the best job announcing, and attempting to run the races as best as I could with both Phil and Dale's encouragement, when the "other guy" went MIA. And after reading some of the posts, it sounds as if the feedback I was hearing last year wasn't as true as it seemed. Last year was my very first year of seeing things from a different perspective, other than showing up racing! To be honest with you all, about a year ago you wouldn't even see me do something like that. But, Dale knows how my passion for racing runs deep.....It may seem as if I take from the hobby, yes I do.....enjoyment! But I also give back by helping in the time of need, or stepping up to the plate.
As far as the issues of last year, alot of things are different. Dale has been working his tail off. Believe it or not gentlemen, the man spent almost 2 weeks straight every night after his other job, getting the track ready for carpet season. His wife has been his biggest supporter, and a big applause to Seth for stepping up and helping him out. So when the luster of other tracks wears off, or your interests change....don't be afraid to come check out the "Improved" Summitt Raceway.......or you might just miss the next best thing besides mom's homemade apple pie!!!!!!!! LOL
Kris
P.S. Also Dave is MIA to some people, but not to this cat.....talk to him all the time via other foprms of cummunication........anything you all want me to pass on to him??????? Just let me know and I get thru to the otherside.......
alexaj46 10-09-2004, 11:36 AM Hey Kris, I agree one man doesn’t make a racetrack but one man can bring more racers to the track. Why don’t you let us all know what issues were floating around that you think weren’t true. If it’s not true, I would think this would help improve Fort Wayne image. Kris here’s your big chance to promote the track so please tell us what changes were made from last year that will improve the racing environment. Jim
Krisfo 10-10-2004, 04:11 AM Thanks for the opportunity.....
I have been racing there for a long time, since it has opened. Dale fixed the carpet, it is now glued firmly to the surface. No more wrinkles!! The white ice that used to come apart or un-taped is gone...replaced with a different slicker, but more reliable plexi-glass sheet(s). There is a large area for tech, soon as things pick-up area for radio impound!!!
The rules for the classes are posted, and conform to what New Castle, and what other tracks rules are....There is a person in the hobby shop to help Nick, and other racers get pointed in the right direction on stuff...Tracy Fogelson.....There is 2 spec classes forming, Touring Spec..and Busch Grand Nationals......The 2 minute rule is enforced firmly, and Seth Barrand is the "Official " Track Director/Tech....If your car does not pass tech, guidelines for the infractions are enforced.
The racetrack is setup on a time schedule that is equally accesible to both on-road and oval. Roadcourse Sunday thru Wednesday, and Oval Thursday thru Saturday night for racing/practice....a fully stocked speedshop with stuff racers requested to be stocked......There is a tire truer available with arbors for all types of cars for a small fee...like 50 cents per tire....really nice unit.......
And if there is any questions/ concerns about the "show" Dale listens to both sides......and acts upon them in a timely matter (usually within the night!)...and here is the biggest one........he (Dale) is running the show entirely on his own, and has dedicated his track and staff to the PDX Indiana State Oval Series, and will not go back on his word!!!! There was an issue of people going 2 businesses down, or entering the premises "loaded" we will say.....that issue was dealt with........
And...he has our support.....because the racers that have stuck thru the lean times & good times share the same passion he does!!!! Good clean, fun, fast racing & sportsmanship!!!!
So different face calling the shots, new attitudes, and a new beginning for Summitt!!!! A really nice multi-purpose facility.....one of the best I have ever raced at......If I had to rate it on a scale of 1-10.....I'd give Summit a 9.75.....a .25 point deduction for distance away from my house.........only down side for me.....
Kris
RcDinge 10-10-2004, 07:28 AM Does this track have a website w/schedule and directions? Driving through next weekend and may stop to check it out.
alexaj46 10-10-2004, 09:57 AM Good Job Kris
it’s nice to see there is a focus on the little things. There are a few new wrinkles but however most of the topics you mention were done last year. So all I can say is to be diligent and consisted in your efforts and the track should be successful.

We have done major work again this summer and we now have a 125' driveline track and new carpet. Good to hear from ya Bob. We got touring stock and mod, it just depends on who shows. We've made some improvements since last year and by the state champs race (thanksgiving weekend) we should have the other improvements done. Doors open at 10am and racing starts at 5pm sharp. We take registration till 4. Racers are always welcome to call in registration. We,ve also been gettin some great competition in pan 4 cell from up north. Hope to see ya saturday.
wallyworld 10-29-2004, 12:39 PM What are the TC rules? Tires, motors, and such... I wanna be ready for Nov.... Roar rules is what we go by on touring cars. I think Butch Beeme plans on coming back this weekend with his touring cars. The only spec class for touring we would run is the Trinity T-spec.
rockin_bob13 10-29-2004, 12:54 PM If I can get the OK from the X depending on what my boy decides, I only have 1 19T, so if he comes too, we'll vote for stock. If I can go and he doesn't come then I'd be happy to try that 19T. I practiced with it last week and it was pretty cool. Of course we'll want to run whatever everyone else runs.

hydroracer 11-03-2004, 04:04 PM Kris and Ryan....sorry, work is going to prevent me from getting to Ft. Wayne this weekend. Figures, on a weekend where I find more 6-cell guys to race against. rockin_bob13 11-05-2004, 10:57 AM Had a real good time there last Saturday night. Thanks for the great hospitality. We have a bunch of people coming to the New Castle track this weekend for the normal club race. Just wanted to let you guys know in case you wanted to run in a big field of cars. Folks are coming in from Mi, Il, Oh, Ky,Wi. Monti called and a bunch of friends are coming to compare notes, getting ready for the 'Birds. Looks like 50+ entries. 19T looks like the biggest class but there will be 4-cell stock, mod, Busch, Legend, Touring stock, and I believe the Indy stockers will be making an appearance there this weekend. Track is set up and ready for cars. It's HUGE!
