don't ask me about planet i've heard so many story's y their selling it.

Corey,

As much as I'd like to tell you, three laps aren't going to be found in any motor, battery, or car. It's all about setup, and staying clean. Once you have those down, the others will come.

Mark,
I understand totally about the setup, and consistency.....I am just amazed on how much setup is such a factor on 4 cell stock cars. If you arent almost perfect, might as well pull the car off the track.

BRENT L

To me 4 cell stock is one of the hardest classes to be fast in.The reason I say that because it is easy to get a car to go around the track. Not push or be loose. The trick is to get the car to handle and be fast.I hear so many car's go through the turn and you can just hear the motor bog.The car looks like it handels great until it get's to the turn then bog's down. What I recommend is to try differnt thing's,spring's,tires,T plates. When ever I try to run somebody elses set up,I'm slow. Some people think my set up is weird but that's what works for me.As far as motor's The motor I ran in the main this past week was purchased right there in the Summit Hobby Shop that morning. It is very frustrating to be 2 or 3 laps off the pace, but remember we all have been there. You just have to keep trying. If it was easy to win every time it would not be fun.Right?

brents right on the problem. my car this weekend had this problem. it stuck too good in the corners. which made me loose speed. i tried to free up the car. it made it free in but too good off. wich in turn killed my exit speed.
4-cell is not easy. if it were everyone would be in it. corey u seen how the track, and the cars changed. u have to keep up with the changes. granted i'm not the best at it. but we learn more every week we race.
corey u are a good driver just have patience, and quit blocking me lol. but if some other drivers were there brent wouldn't have seemed so fast. brent just had the best setup for that day...

Sorry 'bout that Paul..........I didn't mean to block ya - haha - actually I really tried to get outta the way of everyone. You and I always seem to get in each others way, wether it be off road or oval.

Brent, you are soo right.... what fun would it be if we all just threw down a car and it handled perfect, how boring.
Se ya'll next week.

I appreciate the offer for the cars guys...but I ain't got the bling........unless ya'll wanna pull some strings and get me a ride with either dave, or Mark......ol buddy ol pal......donate it.......LOL Hint...hint.......

Seriously guys I know "4 flat Jenny" (AKA My L4) is a good car...but I just can't see it working right. Three reasons......here it goes as it sits now....

1. Can't fit 122 or 120 spur on it. Needs to run a 37-39 pinion.....
2. Batteries even after I modified the tray still ain't close to the wheels (rear)
3. Can't get the shocks to level out...without making new parts from scratch or hoge podging it.......

I can fit a 122 or 120 on it with the Irs Extended pod plates, but the wheelbase is too long and even after adjusting it I still have the problem with getting the batteries where they should be...as close to the axle as possible............

So that is why I want a hyperdrive 0700 or a better car .......for 4 cell.....it is awesome for 6 cell..........

While I race that car...I will draw up some ideas to adapt....."4 flat Jenny" into a fire breathing 4 cell monster........

hmmmm? i never new running a 120-125 spur makes a difference. the smaller spurs work all the same. on the tray, none of us can put the thing on the rear tire. if ur tray is that far back something is wrong. as for ur shocks irs makes the thing to keep the shocks flat. keep the pod free...... and the front end.....

S Brown
03-24-2004, 10:00 AM
Kris run a 112 or 116 spur, you will not loose any performance from running the larger gear.

As for leveling the shocks, if you want to raise them IRS makes some tall ball studs in 2 different heights. Also raising the side shocks is not always the best move on a flat track. As for the battery tray Silva Concepts makes and extended battery tray for a n L4 , also available through IRS.

I’ve seen to many fast L4 to tell you it’s the car. With any brand of car it’s the way it is built that makes it fast.. Next time the crew is up there bring your car over we will help you get it going in the right direction. You just have to ask..

Jason,
Thanks for the offer on the motors - i may take you up on it.

But, OK, answer me this.........I am just trying to figure out what my car should feel like. It seems to be going thru the corners just fine, but obvisously it isn't. I need to knock a tenth or two off the laps times.
Is the car supposed to feel loose and barley turn the tires to get it to turn, or do u set it up to turn the full throw of your wheel and it be stuck to the carpet? I thought I knew what the car was to be like but after Sat, I am confused.
I guess I need to feel what the car is supposed to do, so i can strive to achieve it.
I know I need to spend more time running pan cars, I swap from off road to carpet often, but i am close, and i just want to not be in your guys way as much.

Krisfo
03-24-2004, 10:03 PM
Corey....

From the fast dudes have told me...your car is supposed to be "free" or loose. I can get a 6 cell car to be free....barely gotta turn the wheel and the car turns.......a little loose is fast...ask Jim Alexander......

Guys.....I feel the old bucket of bolts is a good car........but the added extras already come with a hyperdrive or a KSG.......right outta the box!

I guess I will try some other things with it........Sonny.....you gots those parts?? or part #'s???

I have tried the 112 and so on Spurs and just couldn't get any oooomph outt it.......I know I sound like a whiny little twerp here...not the case just totally confused......I think 4cell is awesome......cuz you can go fast, and not break anything (usually) and it is a challenge........something different!!!!!!!!

don't give up
the guys who running fast right now took some time to get there and alot of track time...... i mean alot of track time
trying different set-ups
if you watch the guys who do run good they get there as early as possible and run alot of laps before the 1st heat.

try these things and you will get faster

i also had another person contact me last night via e-mail. he was asking for information to open a carpet oval, and dirt oval.

the planet is up for sale. from what i heard...... that the woman who owns it now wants to open up the oval/road track after she ssells it.

The dirt oval is a done deal. That was decided two months ago. See Nicks Hobby Shop. You may be surprised at the prices of customworks or any other new kits he is selling. Trust me on this one, his prices on kits are extremely low.

I can't tell you the price over the forum but I can give you Nicks Hobby Shops Phone #. (260) 483-3939. I can assure you he will have a lower price than anyone else. $24.00 in free practice and racing is included with a purchase of a car like that also. Hey, did you guys see windtunnel the other night. Showed films of Tony (smoke) Stewart racing his dirt oval cars then Dave Dispain had some of his customworks cars on display in the studio. Also talked about how Earnhart Jr. and some the other nascar guys enjoy doing the RC car thing. By the way, we've got a big dirt oval race planned for memorial day weekend and one for july 18 as part of Ft. Wayne Three Rivers Festival.

I was in Plymouth all weekend as my mom is buying a new house. I stoped by JAM's and a few guys said they might make it over next weekend to race stock.

Who else is in, Red Rag, Country Justice, Dwight, you back in the states yet?

hmmm..they gonna run 6 celly???? Fresh meat...LMAO

Anyways.....went up to Cavalcade Of Wheels race and dominated 6 cell stock.....consistent 64 lap runs all day long......ran 4 cell 19t.....and got 4th in the A-Main........so it was fun, but my back was hurting me all day long to the point where I was almost having trouble standing on the drivers stand.....I guess when you gotta lug your stuff almost a block and up a flight of stairs........that is the result......

So I will see all of you next week............

Six Celly...uh, no.

On Saturday evening at JAM's, one of the last bastions of six-cell racing in the country, it was a typical late season crowd. Mostly die-hards by the looks of them, I honestly didn't know anyone in the place. But by Northern Indiana standards, the few guys in attendance were acting very odd; it seems they had forgotten to solder the extra 2 cells on to their packs! To either add to the twilight zone effect, or to be a dagger in Ken's heart, not only were they running 4-cell, but they were running 4-cell STOCK! They all seemed very upbeat about it, and were doing so willingly. They looked as if they were about to have…fun? So no, no six-cell when/if they can make it over. It looks like some of the guys over there might have seen the light!

FWIW, the guys at JAM's couldn't have been nicer. Within a few minutes of asking when they started (in 15 minutes from when I walked in), they said they'd wait for me if I wanted to unload my stuff and race with them. Even though I didn't have any of my stuff with me, it was a very nice gesture. Few tracks would welcome a total stranger that way. Just before I left, one of the locals said something to the effect of, next time you're up, bring your stuff and come race with us. To race with a group of guys that nice, I think I might just do that!

Thanks for the hospitality,

Mark

Mark,

They have been getting a decent crowd of 4 cell cars recently.
The 6 cell crowd has somewhat vanished, not sure why. If they
would switch the bodies to be Nascar style that would help a
bunch. Like you said in an earlier post to Ken the people that are
diehard 6-cell need to experience 4 cell then they would understand
why it is the future.

See ya Saturday
