I forgot to bring that up. I was talking to Sonny on sun and he reminded me of how they did it at the Snowbirds and also at my home track when I'm living in MI. You start at the normal grid but it is a modified version of IFMAR. All cars start at the same time from the normal grid but each cars clock doesn't start until that car crosses the line. Each car starts at the same time but they are on different clocks. Where as for the main the master clock would be for all cars at start at the tone.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll tell Phil :freak: about them tonight when I see him at the raceway. Off hand both ideas sound better to me than what we've been doing. By the way, we've got another big oval race sceduled for april 13. More details to come.

Wallyworld,
That should be the Sunbird Nationals, not Snowbird. We're hoping for sun from now on, not more snow! But seriously, the Sunbird Nationals April 13th, with open practice April 12th. Carpet oval at it's best!

Hey is any one Running 4 cell? stock ? or is it just 19 turn?

Xpressman
03-22-2003, 07:14 PM
Actually there is no one running 4-cell anything. I would rather run 4-cell, motor doesn't matter. It is a lot easier on tires and all the cars are easier to drive and the racing is closer.

Another thing I forgot to say last night was I don't really care for the carpet down in place of the ice sheets. When you hit the carpet your car wants to spin out and ends up in a pile up because it is right in the line. Happened to me a couple of times and proably cost me the track record. The other thing is you can drive on them as the B-main in stock showed. With the ice sheets if you hit them your car just pushes out and is much more controlable. And if you try and drive on them you just can't. Just my 2 cents.

alexaj46
03-22-2003, 08:56 PM
I don't think is matters, I seen people spin out on the ice and have seen people cut across it. So I think both have there pro's and con's. It would of being nice to see you get a track record but you can't blame the end pieces that you didn't. Jim

its the end pieces or the material that track uses at each end of the oval. We call it ice because its made of white plastics and usually slippery .Jim

There doesn't seem to be anyone running 4-cell on regular Friday night or Sunday racing, but at the last trophy race, there were 10 cars in the 4-cell 19 turn class. There should be some interest in it again for the upcoming trophy race.

alexaj46

Fort Wayne has some drivers I think should start off in 4 cell stock until they can handle the faster speed and the heaver cars. You would also see some good races between these guys which would make it interesting for them. Jim..

I agree with Jim. Even ROAR doesn't recognize 6-cell anything anymore. That is where the 19t came in because it is about the same speed with 4-cells. For the most part 6-cell stock is about the speed and horsepower as 4-cell mod. Plus with 4-cells there is less weight and the tires last a lot longer. just my 2 cents.

Jim,

I knew you looked fimiliar and I looked back through my race stuff and I pitted next to you at the '01 Snowbird warm-up race at Hobbytown Indy. I just couldn't remember on fri. What are you running for tires and how is your wear. This 6-cell stuff is brutl on tires for me. I'm wearing about .030 a run on both rears. Thanks.

alexaj46
03-25-2003, 07:11 PM
Well, I switch to Blue fronts and theres little tire wear. I still have some adjustments to make the car get thru the corners. If successful, I would like to switch back to black fronts. It was fun racing with you Friday, cya Jim

The record is now at 59 4:02 by Jeremy Reiley. My best has been 58 4:00 and everytime I've been on a 61 something happens.

Jim,
It looks like you are going to win this points series. I found out that my problem was a blown speedo. That brings my total of burnt orange things to 3 since the beginning of the year. Maybe it is time to see if blue is better.

xpressman, sorry to heard that, I have good luck with there service folks, Novak know they have a problem with the gt7's and only will tell you if you have had lots of problems. What I don't like about Novak is if this know problem occurs after the warr. run out, they make the customer pay for it.
CIII , the runline is 144 -/+ a foot or two.
Kris, I plan to run Sunday if my job lets me, also the track is open form 12-6pm Saturday.

The thing that I have noticed is you have to run the BIG cap and sckotty diode all the time with the GT7. The one I blew up is one I got from Tyree at a race when I had one blow up and I went up and he was good about it. I think running some hot mod motors just takes its toll. I do that Novak guys were replacing their GT7 every round at the indoor on-road nats and it kind of makes you wonder.

Summit Raceway has just ordered new Ozite carpet. It should be in and installed by October 1st. The oval racing season at Summit is scheduled to begin October 4th. and every Saturday after that. Plans are being reviewed to hold 3 big races this Oval season. We hope to get things finalized, so that the website can be updated with that information and the weekly schedules for both oval and road racing. It should be a great year at Summit Raceway!

What classes do you guys want to run this coming season? I would like to run 4-cell anythign whether it is stock, 19t, or full mod it doesn't matter to me. A couple of reason I am saying we should switch to running 4-cells instead of 6 is because that is what most people are running now. It is also a lot easier on tires and they will last a lot longer and you will have more batteries to run and it isn't as hard on the motors or batteries. Even if it is 4-cell stock the racing is going to be a lot closer and more fun for everyone. Yes it is slower but it it really puts more emphasis on driving and should attrach more people because of the lower cost of running. What is everyone's thoughts on this?

they are more competitive bringing the driving and setup back to
racing.

The carpet is coming, the carpet is coming...

Summit raceway will be having a couple of work nights for anyone interested in helping prepare the indoor raceway for the new Ozite carpet. Tuesday, Sept. 16th and Thursday, Sept. 18th. Anyone that would like to volunteer is welcome to stop out. All of the perimeter boards have been disassembled and the old carpet has already been taken up. Work is going to be done on the drivers stand, the boards, and the floor.
A great season of indoor racing will begin the first Friday in October. Check the website for more info and the Tueday/Friday/Saturday schedule for the upcoming season.
Click the WWW icon at the bottom of this post to get to the website.

How many heats are you running durring your saturday night oval program? Also, what time will the doors open on saturdays for practice? The Indy guys might come up to play this winter!

Last year we ran on friday nights and on sunday afternoon. Turnouts varied somewhat. I'm hoping more people will start to run 4-cell as I think that will really help the turnout. I know Sonny, Koback, and Dave from LE came last up last year and ran. They are getting new CRC Ozite so the traction is going to be there all the time. I'm not sure what time they are looking into starting on saturdays yet but I am sure there will be a TON of practice time before racing starts.

I'm not sure this is the gospel truth, but I believe they are considering a 5:00 PM start time, with the doors open at noon at the latest. I'll check tonight to verify that. Oh yeah, the number of heats... I would assume 3 and a main. I'll check that too.
