I am coming this weekend and I would like some basic info on setup for a tc3 for oval. I know no one wants to give away any secrets but some basic stuff like oils and springs and somewhere to start on gearing. I am an offroad racer who is trying oval for the first time and would like to get somewhat close with a setup to start with. Also what tires are you guys running. Thanks for any help you guys can provide.

Ken..... you do not need a receiver pack to run 4 cell and a good 19turn car will be with in 2 to 3 seconds of a good 6 cell stock car. As for set up differences it is all the same just two less cells. Plus the rules for 19turn that we run under are those imposed by ARCOR. Simpley stated, stand up brushes and a max of 36 degress of timing are the only rules you need to be worried about. Another thing is that 4 cell racing is not a new thing. It was started by Mike Byolan in Florida back in the early 90's 4 cell oval racing has been around for over 10 yrs.

As for cost remember that the price you pay for two 6 cell packs you can get 3, 4 cell packs. Sounds like a better deal to me! If I were going to race this week I would say bring your 6 cell car and I will run my 4 cell 19t I would be sure that the racing would be close and that you would be impressed.

-Monti-

PS Ken why don't you and your 6 cell frineds just go and race any way with your own class and see all the other guys that run 4 cell and then you will get a better feel of what it is all about!

A BIG THANK YOU to everyone that came out to Summit Raceway this last Saturday and Sunday!! Saturday night the track was on FIRE!! We had over 60 entries - what a crowd! Sunday was the 2nd leg of the Triple Crown Series and we had a good crowd for that also. Also a big THANK YOU to Nick's Hobby Shop for the great support in the parts area. See everyone again next weekend.

Rob - Basic starting infomation for your TC3 touring would be to use yellow and purple springs, 70 weight oil front, 60 weight oil rear, plaid tires on front, purple tires on rear, 2 degree negative camber on right, 1 degree negative camber on left, 27/72 48 pitch for gearing is a good starting point for stock, ride height front 4 1/2, ride height rear 4.

This should at least get you started.

oh, by the way.....your years of relentless testing of the leading edge front bumper have paid off. sonny brown's 6 cell car became airborne at the 'birds at one unfortunate point in a violent crash..but thanks to your input and development..the driver walked away unharmed. the rc world thanks you for your contributions. now..if we can convince red wing boots you were only "testing" the steel toe against the new castle driver's stand.....

In order to start on time due to the larger turnouts, entries will be taken from 4pm till 5:30pm for saturday night oval racing. Anyone signing up after 5:30pm will miss the first round of qualifying. Entries taken by phone call or by another person than the racers themselves are welcome whenever it's not possible to be at the raceway on time. We will need to know your class, radio frequency, and if necessary personal transponder number. Thanks once again for supporting Summit Raceway, Dale and Phil.

Monti,

My main concern for what I've heard about 19t motors is there isn't any way to tech the motors (timing and stand up brushes are easy). This motor tech thing is too wide open for those who like to cheat. The thing about the receiver pack is why do I see them in the mags on the 4 cell cars then? I thought you had to run those because of the lower voltage of 4 cells.

Most of the guys I race with already changed their mind. They want to race different people and not the same people somewhere else. Last time I ran up at Summit I ran 61 laps. That was a little over a year ago. 4 cell was a small class then.

I know that our tracks won't change so there isn't any sense in having 4 cell batteries sitting around until I go somewhere else out of town to run.

02-26-2004, 10:22 PM

Ken,

If your tracks aren't changing, why does Jam's list a 4-cell class that they hadn't in the past?

XXX-Fan
02-26-2004, 11:34 PM
Mark,
Because me and someone else wanted them to have a class that was not from the stoneages. Now, you HAVE to run a dirt latemodel body in their four cell stock class.??
Last year we wanted the class switched to stock motors instead of the spec motors and evryone whined they did not want to buy stock motors for the class. This year, stock motors, and now you have to run a latemodel body. Well, why should I have to buy one of those bodies to run there? I broke the record by two laps with Intrepid and people whined that the body was illegal. Solution: I qiut racing there.
Then, Eric put one of the bodies on that they were saying had to be run and went a lap faster than me. They still whined.

The biggest problem around here is they all think 2000's and 2400's are the way to go. They run outdated equipment and then complain when they get beat.

And, for some reason, in their "6-cell stock class" they are all beating the walls down and tearing up cars and luagh when they wreck someone.
It is no wonder these tracks around here are losing people.

Sorry for long post. Tired of the "why is everyone running 4-cell" whining go on. Go to some real tracks and big races and see what is run!!

Monti007
02-27-2004, 12:21 AM
Ken

The only reason why you see cars with a receiver pack is becasue the person put one in the car. There is no need for it. As for 19t you can tech them and it is easy to do. All 19t arms have to be taged plus they all have to be wound the same way with the same type of wire. There is no way a person can cheat. I do not see the fear in running the class at all as for cheaters are concerned.

As for the lap thing we run 67 laps in 4 cell 19t now. Since I am going to run this weekend I still extend my offer to come and run and atlest see what the whole thing is all about. I would not have a problem if you ran your six cell stock stuff against our four cell stuff. And I am sure no one else would object if it were to give more people interest in the same type of racing. I would welcome new blood it gets old beating Zubak and Sonny all the time! HA HA!

I'm with ya Monte

Ken bring your 6 cell stock cars and run them with us in 19 turn.
if you win then 6 cell stock is fsater if you don't then 4 cell 19 turn is faster.
would be nice to see what class is faster.
I have an idea if you are a good 6 cell stock racer.

come on out and run with us, you probably won't get this offer at to many tracks that don't run 6 cell stock.

good luck Ken

Guys, until this season, not many people were running more then 60 laps. The 6c stock record was 59 laps and if i remember correctly 19t was 62 laps. Everyone knows this year the track and racers got faster. I will be surprise if 6cstock will do much more then 64 laps. I ran 6c stock this year and got 62 with a bad handling car. The reason FW switch to 4 cell stock was because last year there were too many drivers that couldn't handle the speed & weight of a 6c car. So 4c stock was a much better solution for them.

Hey Jim if my memory serves me correctly.....you didn't turn more than a 59...or a 60 in 6c stock......LOL

The record for 6 cell tock at Summitt is a 59 4:00.???

Ken......the only time you raced at Summitt was for the Sunbird's...and You Turned a fast 59 or a semi slow 60......like a 4:02.00

I'm not saying this to "knock" people....but I have never seen anyone in 6cell stock turn a 61 or 62 when I've been there.........

The 4 cell mod and 4 cell 19t turn guys were laying fire tracks around the raceway......anyone got a fire extinguisher??? I still think Eli's tracks are burning...........

Special thanks to Big John Zubak for the Zubie Juice forthe racers Saturday night...and thanks for the "other" issue to John........Your a good man........

Hope to see you all on Saturday!!!! I'm gonna go sleep now........and give my voice a rest!!!!!
