View Full Version : KSG extreme cs??
FreqETag 03-31-2003, 08:08 PM Hey all, just got my KSG today one quick question, what are the "first mods" if any to do.
I wanted to run an HPI center shock, need to know what piston to install etc. of if even to use it.
Also, anyone running a TRC Med steel plate?
Lastly, Springs. Where to start?
I'm running Wolfe Purples up front, Lt Blue on the HPI with #2 piston and Assoc Blue on the side vcs' on my L4O... if this means anything in KSG language.
Thx a ton! What a great car! :D
Mayhem Racing 03-31-2003, 08:38 PM Sell that hunk of junk and buy an Associated car. Then maybe you can catch me .
LTR Shane :) :) :)
pancartom 03-31-2003, 10:00 PM what color is the sky in your world, mayhem????
what color is the sky in your world, mayhem????
It definitly isn't blue "Blue is better"
The assoc shock that is with the kit is fine, the HPI is better, your choice. As far as springs and such experiment and find what works best for you.I've found red side springs to work well but I've seen about every color made ran with success,I've got a #2 piston in my HPI shock and it seems to work fine but I will experiment and see how it affects the car in the future.I 've currently got a TRC spring steel T-plate on this car but am going to switch to a soft finish line plate soon,I've got one on my terminator and it is real smooth and have been hearing good things about it from other folks.
FreqETag 03-31-2003, 11:01 PM Thx guys!
I'm headed to Chillicothe, anyone care to share setups?
If I run 19t it will be a first!! I'm an 'ole 6 cell stock guy. Never done the "little battery" car before so watch out.....
btw: Mayhem was just funnin' me He knows where the speed is!
waldo 03-31-2003, 11:21 PM Danny B. I need to talk to you A.S.A.P.!
danbracing 04-01-2003, 01:11 AM Crashmaster Junk that old woods car, or put on the shelf for a trophy.
Now I will tell you one time, buy a KSG car. Maybe we will give you some respect. and let you win a race LOL c-yaa.
Danny B 04-01-2003, 03:21 AM FreqEtag, My flat track carpet set-up is posted on the 2nd or 3rd page of this thread I think. We have run that basic set-up everywhere, it works well.
X-13 was always a good car, But the newer cars today seem to adapt to the speed we are going these days. KSG is a pretty sweet ride and I think the results speak for themselves.

Mayhem Racing 04-01-2003, 01:19 PM Blue Skys and the back of my car is all everyone else see's here .
Just not my car of choice and have not been beaten by one yet.LOL :dude: :dude:
Danny are you going to make it to the Chili race. Shane
FreqETag 04-01-2003, 01:59 PM Thx Danny! look forward to seeing you at Chilli....
Mayhem... watch out for blue pod plates. And did I mention he got beat in a qualifier by the new 10yr old Oval kid?
Stay out of the fast lane........
Danny B 04-01-2003, 07:24 PM Sorry guys, I really wanted to get back to Chili this year(haven't been since the 99 regional) but the warm up for the nats is that weekend also and that has to take priority. Like I said, never enough race weekends :(
FreqETag 04-02-2003, 12:08 AM Danny or any other KSG "expert",
One quick question... well maybe two....or...
First, whats the preferred setup for the steering arms? trimmed? Drill between the two holes? or? I have the on-center Associated for now.
Second, I assume servo as far back as possible? I'm running an Airtonics 4735....
Also, if anyone would care to share a shot of their car setup so I can have a look at it that would be great! I got this car in pieces from the previous owner and no instructions so I'm battling things here a bit.
Thx Danny and all!
Danny sure would have loved to get beat by ya in Chilli. Never seen you run but everyone told me to watch for the "blur" But hey, nats come first bro!
danbracing 04-02-2003, 02:44 AM Sorry Crashmaster, only have one KSG car, and I'm running it. Besides would I let anyone drive my cars named Crashmaster, I've seen you in action. Crash if you want to run in the A mains next year, you need a new car. Give all that other racing up that you do, and run oval next year. Put all your money into oval racing. Man I love to tell people to spend money. c-yaa Dan
Danny B 04-02-2003, 01:36 PM FreqEtag,
I run pretty much a stock front end with the exception of the alum castor blocks(but I still run both sides all the way down, like the stock postition) and the wolfe front kingpins.
you want the tie-rods to have a slight forward angle maybe like 8-10 degrees. The more angle the tie-rods have the more ackerman the front end will have, meaning the LF will turn more than the RF.
Also, Region 8 guys, we are planning a paved regional at Storm Steel in Iowa this summer. As soon as I have official approval I will start pushing it. Track info is at www.iroaronline.org
FreqETag 04-02-2003, 11:07 PM Danny,
Thx for the quick reply!
One other thing... should I trim (i.e. shorten the length of) the steering arms?
They seem awfully long now.
I've always had the trailing (behind the kingpin) style so this wasn't an issue. The ones on my L4 (which, from what I've heard on here I'll want to sell after I drive this KSG) are less than a mm away from the wheels... scary :(
Just an FYI....I have tried to get through to Dr. Dale but he's a busy man. :D
Thx again!
onefastlap 04-03-2003, 03:23 AM Hey FreQ, Man are you going all out or what? Get some practice and you can set that thing up! It'll tell you what it needs. You would have joined me in the 70 lap club by now by leaving it alone and drive that bad boy! And stop all that RIGHT turning in the sedans,it only leads to bad habits. j/k -John
Danny B.:
What is the proper way to adjust the side shock for load on the rear tires? I read you black book on RC-Oval and I am now more confused. Turn both preload springs in the same amount? When I do this the weight does not change on LR.
TIA
Danny B 04-03-2003, 03:05 PM 300M, My basic point with that is not to only adjust one shock all the time. It is a lot easier to get the weights you desire if you use both shocks. With these new generation of cars, where all the weight is on the left side the way you have to set the shocks to get the right weight is a little different.
The KSG car in particular likes LR weight, it is hard to get it over there with the weight distribution the way it is. So we end up with the right side shock turned in quite a bit more than the Left side shock. So don't be afraid of a lot of threads showing on the Right shock and not so many, if any on the left shock. As long as the car is fast who cares how much LR weight??
Thanks Danny, Feel better now!
onefastdude 04-06-2003, 10:53 AM Another record falls as the KSG Extreme CS lives up to it's name. This is an awesome car that has awesome potential and corner speed when set-up properly. I'm really enjoying this car.  I just had to toot my horn a little.
danbracing 04-06-2003, 09:18 PM To Crashmaster, If you didn't see I was TQ, had second place by a lap
I can't help it for the second or third time this year the second place quailifer, thinks he needs to win the race it at the first corner, then when I go to pass him he gives no room. Crashmaster how many laps did you quailify with, do I need to post it here, or should I save everyone the laughs. Crash you must be a retart, Don't buy a KSG car, Keep your woods, and Crash I was just there to test my new car for the second time out not bad. If I rememmber right you would of been in the B main
with the laps you went. Dan
Oh, I for got to mention Crash, in the finale my pos. wire from the speed control to the motor, was rubbing the left rear after the the first hit trying to pass the first place car, and Crash, John asked me if he could run the B and the A main together. If I was only worried about a win, I would of told him no way, so there you go I was just there to have fun, and test my new car. Crash how many times in the last 2 yrs. have you beat me in 6-cell stock??.
danbracing 04-07-2003, 02:05 AM Crashmaster: You should be thanking the V-man (Vince Ball), on helping you get that old woods car set-up, If it wasn't for him you would be farther down on laps. Insteed of wasting your time bragging on yourself you should be wrenchen on that old car. You have raced with us a lot in the last 2 yrs. Untill 3 to 4 weeks ago you couldn't turn left with out breaking your car. later on Dan
Morning: KSG set the record at Tidewater RC in Masters stock Saturday. Ike busted the record by a full lap!! Congrats to Ike
John
crashmaster 04-09-2003, 01:12 AM Dan i want to thank you, V-man, sparky, and kevinm for every thing that help me get my woods car as fast as it is
Has anyone noticed the play in the rear t-plate pivotball and the cross brace i had to put a shim to take up the slack about .002 on my car? where are you guys running your center shock on the mount?
rather be racin 04-13-2003, 05:50 PM pepe, every track ive been too the center shock mounts different i use it as a tunning tool.. i didnt need to add any shims to the pivot ball.. did you use the stock pivot balls?
Chris Sweatt
danbracing 04-13-2003, 06:44 PM Pepe, I've noticed the same thing, where did you put the shim?
Pepe, I've noticed the same thing, where did you put the shim?
I put it on top of the pivot ball so as not to change the height of the T-plate.I run a .020 shim under the front pivot ball for more rear bite.
Gary Hamilton 04-13-2003, 08:27 PM Pepe---Your kit most likely had one of the original cross braces which did need a shim to take the slack out. All the braces made for at least the last two months will not require the shim.

I wonder if I sent the old cross brace back they would trade it for a new one? Anyone from KSG?
Gary Hamilton 04-14-2003, 12:08 AM Pepe---Rather than replacing it look at it this way, you have one of verry few braces that allow you to make another small adjustment. I have both braces and on real high bite tracks I put the 0.020 shim under the rear pivit ball as a small adjustment to free the car up. I would hang on to it if I were you! Hope your KSG car is working good for you.

crashmaster 04-16-2003, 06:46 PM hopefully by next winter i should be driving a ksg. after the weekend i just had up in the U.P i think that i need a new car
rowle1jt 04-16-2003, 08:50 PM after the weekend i just had up in the U.P i think that i need a new car
About time you figured that out Muller....... :D
Porksalot4L 04-17-2003, 02:42 AM i didnt think x-13's were still out there. thats ancient. almost like a 10Lss fiberglass
i didnt think x-13's were still out there. thats ancient. almost like a 10Lss fiberglass
I would take a updated version IE:woven graphite and such, of a X-13 anyday it was,and could still be an extremely competitive car.
crashmaster 04-26-2003, 07:54 PM it didn't help that i had a little help getting booted to last by one of my buddys from the U.P. the car was fast me and a nother woods driver were battiling it out for 3 then my body got caught in my left front tire and it pushed me right into him and that was all for the both of us.
frank p. 04-27-2003, 07:55 PM KSG car breaks another record,.. @ RED FOX last night the xtreme cs takes the 19t track record down by 2 laps!!
jake86 05-10-2003, 09:25 AM has any one had any problems with breaking the rear alum cross brace i broke one last week and some of the guys at msa have broke them as well.
MikeM 05-10-2003, 09:45 AM How is everyone running the car, offset or centered?
Gary Hamilton 05-10-2003, 05:11 PM Jake86
I broke one also but I caused the problem myself. Mine broke in the hole between the screws that hold the right side graphite body mount post. The reason mine broke was because I had too short of screws holding the graphite mount on to the brace. I solved this by making sure I used steel screws that went all the way through the cross bar. The hole that blew out has to be there to hold the brace while it is being milled and for the threads to be tapped. Hope this helps.

rather be racin 05-11-2003, 10:21 AM Mike, I run my KSG off center everywhere i go. But i think its kinda personal opinion on that..
I have bent the cross brace not broken it. KSG needs to come out with a .09 gas car now. I just got a Dillon g2k with the .09 in it.. and man they are a blast. and easy to tune with only 1 needle. you guys should give them a try. We run them with ARCOR rules. but to fit the .09 in the rear pod you need a racetech pod or a blonk racer pod for the muffler to fit like its supposd to..

racinfella78 05-11-2003, 03:07 PM Hey guys...
