First of all, to Casey, Joel, and the Spring-Fling gang that makes it happen, sorry I just couldn't make it. . . . not alone. You're angry, well. . . I'm angry too. Some of these posts make it sound like this years oval attendance was done out of malice, or some kind of bad intention. Some were on vacation, some were at a daughters college graduation, some just didn't want to afford the trip. That last one is me all the way. But apparently you need a tax-return as proof-of-excuse to not attend. I was one of the guys posting right up to the end, my intent on going, but I was really hoping for a rider. . . . $75+ in gas alone for me, & with no-one to help share that, I just couldn't make it. I've made every Spring-Fling, (since I knew about them) this is first one I've missed, so to be judged soooo harshly, is really, weak. Look, attendance is down ALL over, our "Big" races down state, the B.R.L., even Sno-birds with 30-35 in a givin class, that used to have 90. I wanna see the Fling with 25 guys in my class too, like the "old-days" but like you said, you don't even own an oval car. . . . in fact other than Casey and Chuck, all you guys have QUIT running oval. So when you attack racers who couldn't show for the oval-fling, and start this "Look-In-A-Mirror" crap, I don't think one needs to know what I'm thinking. . . . . . One of the "Followers" Sparky chuck47 04-30-2012, 12:51 PM I'm sorry to see the hurt feelings about OVAL we need all the people to race that we can scrape up to keep it going in our state. Sure there wern't many oval racers there BUT we did make it fun for the ones that were able to make the race and I think that is what all racers need to do,(make the best of the situation and have FUN doing it)!! Any class will die if the fun is taken out of it. Talking about fun Ray and I flew planes in the parking lot on Friday night too. Thank you Ray for the planes and letting me fly yours, I'm sure our little club will have lots of fun making and flying these this summer! But BACK TO RACING OVAL I did take a second behind MR. Dialed in 13.5 open who also did TQ! BUT in 17.5 open it was a different story, YES! I took TQ (that's all that counts, right) well I did WIN the main also. I have to let it be known Ray because I have never won against you guy's, yous are always FAST year after year! SO SORRY RAY BUT I JUST HAVE TO SAY IT! (RAY WHO)!!! Really you guys are a Hoot at the track and on HobbyTalk, keep it up and I hope to see yous at another "Spring Fling" next year!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Let's keep tight and keep oval together in Michigan. LOL....Chuck You must not have heard me....(Keith doesn't listen to me either) but I said all that mattered in 17.5 and 13.5 was TQ after the FIRST round. If I'm not mistaken I believe I was TQ in both classes at that point. But I will say this ...after the first round it was you all the way in 17.5. Was fun running against you and Rick. Glad you had fun flying the plane. Look for an e-mail a little later on today or tomorrow for those links. RC slipstream 04-30-2012, 03:33 PM Frank, Thanks go out to you and the others that used your camera to shoot the videos, I am looking forward to seeing them, well all but the Sc amain...boy did I suck.....LOL spring fling 2012 17.5 stock short course A main - YouTube spring fling 2012 race for the Thompson cup A main stock buggy - YouTube spring fling 2012 Mod short course A main - YouTube spring fling 2012 13.5 stadium truck A main - YouTube spring fling 2012 Mod short course B main - YouTube nitrofix 04-30-2012, 04:04 PM Wow, what a day of racing in the offroad classes – awesome – I had a great time, for sure. I attended every race in St. Ignace this season except last Saturday which I didn’t know was scheduled or I would have been there too!! The “Spring Fling” offroad racing was awesome on that huge track. I can’t wait until next seasons races – I plan to attend every race again next season and look forward to the “2013 Spring Fling”. At the Spring Fling this year we ran 4X4 Short Course for the first time this season and man do they ever hook up and go on the carpet. I really enjoyed the 4x4 Short Course racing and hope you have it again at next years “Spring Fling”. I really have to hand it to the guy from Green Bay who did all the time keeping, he ran the show like a Swiss watch, from beginning to end, keeping the races flowing like a river. Great job to the guy from Green Bay – just forget his name because of all the other things running through my mind, such as keeping my race cars maintained and ready to race. Casey, thanks for having us Canadians up to race your track this season, we all had a great time throughout the season, and it looks like there will be a few more of us coming next season. I already know a few of our new guys in our club here in Canada are going to be set up to race there in St. Ignace next season, so expect to see more of us next season. Mike in Canada!! The Kanuck!! Or is it Canida!! Just don’t know how to spell yet LOL!! TORC-spotter 04-30-2012, 04:58 PM It was a fun event Casey!!! The track layout was great, even got to lead a lot of the Mod SC B main:thumbsup: Track was very evenly matched for both LCG cars and Slash's! Hope to see everyone Saturday! mc43 04-30-2012, 06:33 PM Hey wigman before you run your ignorant mouth check facts of why people didnt show.i wasnt there because my daughter graduated from wmu with her masters degree(a once in alifetime achievement).sorry it hurt your feelings but my daughter is way more important than any rc race.as for the rest of the guys I ca.t speak for them, but I know with your attitude I wont be up for a race again. WIGMAN 04-30-2012, 06:39 PM Family first Mark, I'll always be down with that. You don't race off road so not really a big deal, I find the attitude remark very amusing coming from you. davz 04-30-2012, 06:57 PM Alright, I can't resist. Joel, I guess maybe I was guilty too. I could have riddin with sparks, but I just didn't have the money. Even though it's only 100 bucks or so to go, I just couldn't do it. I started a new job in February and I just don't make the money that I used to. I said all along that I wasn't going. Yeah I missed out on a good time. I have been to 2 spring flings and I had a blast both times. To be honest, I raced the same small group all season. I couldn't starve this week just to race the same people again, but 4 hours away. John and I talked about making a day trip just for Saturday, but I bailed on him tuesday. Everybody knoiws what it is like when the wallet gets tight. It hurts a little knowing that people up there were pissed that some didn't show. Really, you were only missing about 6 or 8 people. I don't think that 6-8 heads should make or break a race. Maybe next year will be a different story. Vote the dems out of office this November and gas will be a lot cheaper. Dave Zipp Mike D. 04-30-2012, 07:10 PM Gas prices are a big issue now a days wigman, you should know that being way up there in the cold tundra. i am 7 miles away from our local track and by the end of the day i spend 40 to 50 bucks. that does not count for the out of town races i go to, that is another 100 bones out of pocket for each race if i dont break anything. cant really be mad for someone not being able to afford it. take a Huge national race and make a list of people that want to go and people that are going..........the list of want will for sure be longer. lets all just get along bud...lol, see ya saturday! WIGMAN 04-30-2012, 07:12 PM hard to resist....LOL I am with you on the Democrat thing. 6-8 people might not seem like much but I will break it down a little. 6 people x $15 for 1 class is $90 3 of them no doubt would have run 2 classes, another $30, thats $120 in entry fees. he paid $150 a day for the Gym, had he known oval guys weren't coming he could have either A. cancelled the oval day or B still run oval but had a 1 day event, either way would have saved him $150 on rent. Had it been a one day event there is no telling how many of the Buggy and truck guys would have run more classes. oh well whats done is done. davz 04-30-2012, 07:22 PM If the fling was 6 wks earlier you would have got more I am sure. I get the $ thing about the gym and all. I guess I didn't add up all the #'s. Lets all try again next year. I am from the UP and go there every time I can. I like the 1 day event. Make it Saturday. It's fun to watch and maybe even join in on the offroad. Mike D. 04-30-2012, 07:27 PM If the fling was 6 wks earlier you would have got more I am sure. I get the $ thing about the gym and all. LOL Howler 04-30-2012, 07:37 PM I forgot to mention one other highlight of the races on Sunday. There was a young man named Dakota that never raced an R/C car before. He had a bout 30 minutes of practice on Saturday night with a rent-a-ride Losi buggy that Casey had provided him with. On Sunday, he fought his way through the races to qualify on the pole and win the B main! That was r/c racing was about right there. Teaching the new guys, helping them to get into it, and watching them have a great time. Congrats Dakota! @ http://www.hobbytalk.com/bbs1/images/avatars/walt-3.gif (http://www.hobbytalk.com/bbs1/member.php?u=79442) nitrofix (http://www.hobbytalk.com/bbs1/member.php?u=79442) Thank you for the comments on the announcing. I didn't want to step on anybodies toes as to the style that you may have been used to, but I also knew that a lot of you traveled some good distances to support the race & probably wanted to get home reasonably early. -Perry WIGMAN 04-30-2012, 08:32 PM perry Dakota was the last qualifier not TQ of B main, the motor/speedo something went bad 2 laps into his 1st qualifier, your buddy changed the motor and we thought we had it fixed, he even ran a couple laps after the first round just to get some laps, then we put him on the track for the 2nd qual and the darn thing wouldn't work, changed motor and speedo out before the main and he rocked the Bmain, pretty impressive for a kid that had never driven a Race R/c before. I here ya mike I spend a minimum of $100 every time I come down to Gaylord to race, going to try to sell my truck and get a gas saver now, just has to be big enough for me and dale and all my stuff. gonna be bringing the minivan down until then at least I can get 20 MPG with that. Dave I don't think I knew you were a yooper, where did you grow up? Dave I don't think I knew you were a yooper, where did you grow up? right on, Fun FUN hobby, but can get expensive, sure cant get mad for that. still trying to get the grass to grow back in my front yard from when you backed into the ditch to load tractor, your exhaust burnt my grass....LMAO WIGMAN 04-30-2012, 08:39 PM Those tractors are at my house n dont run, know where I can get a used starter for a Kohler 15.5 hp mower. Mike D. 04-30-2012, 08:42 PM Those tractors are at my house n dont run, know where I can get a used starter for a Kohler 15.5 hp mower. the one ran when you picked it up, casey must have used it....LOL!!!. ill look for one, should not be to hard to find slipstream 04-30-2012, 08:43 PM I Hear Ya guys that is why i sold my gas hog went from 14 MPG to 30 MPG  Howler 04-30-2012, 10:23 PM "perry Dakota was the last qualifier not TQ" I stand corrected. Thanks for the heads up/:tongue: WIGMAN 05-01-2012, 05:56 AM I wasn't trying to correct ya big man, it just makes what he did in the main that much more special, if casey can get him into a decent car/truck he could be good. davz 05-01-2012, 06:32 AM Dave I don't think I knew you were a yooper, where did you grow up? Keewenaw. I only lived there until I was 5 I still have a lot of family up there. Been going up there ever since when I can. bojangles 05-01-2012, 09:15 AM Be right back, going to check the TOS to find out what the charges are for inciting a riot... JOHNNYTANLINE 05-01-2012, 11:07 AM Hey guys, Sorry bout' hijacking this thread for so much oval discussion, (Casey closed the "oval" one, befor anyone could comment) I look foward to racing every chance that I can. That includes next years Fling too. In the past, (4-5 yrs ago) I've gone to the Fling alone. I had been doing much better $$$ I wanna race OVAL with you again (Joel). You know, the more I think about things, the less I think anyone should care WHY anyone gets out (R/C oval) and focus on WHAT would make them get back in. It's not just getting old racers back, it's getting them to WANT to come back. Our hobby is not really all that expensive, compared to sno-mobile's or jet- ski's or hunting. It's a "clean" hobby, kids & all. No need for a bar and live entertainment & such. So when you see and "old", "X", oval racer, don't ask why he quit, instead, ask what would make him race again. . . . We've been in this hobby a long time, and there have been MANY changes & advancements, (DSM-LIPO-FANTASTIC HANDELING CARS). Tell them about it! Invite them out! Let-em try your car! Sorry if this all sounds like Tony Robbins, but I just DON'T wanna be angry any more. I love this hobby, & ALL my racing friends. . . . . & I want more. Sparky chuck47 05-01-2012, 02:16 PM That is the right attitude Sparky and then "Let's Race"!!! Brittamaster 05-01-2012, 06:00 PM Way to Go Sparky I agree .... toytech 05-03-2012, 06:01 PM Great seeing everyone that showed up yesterday and today to race, what a weekend. One hell of a way to end the carpet season, now out to the dirt next weekend. I really want to thank Ray, Rick Rad, Butch, Kevin and Chuck for showing up when they said they would for the oval race on Saturday, you guys rock and put on some good hard nosed racing. Perry it was great to see you again, nice to see you can still drive a car in circles, you made that thing sing by the end of the day. To all the fockers that decided we weren't good enough this year to come race with....well....blow me is the nicest thing I can think of to say. very disappointed in some people I used to look up to and used to look forward to seeing at the spring fling, caseys bends over backwards to try to accomodate you guys and you just bend him over instead.....pisses me right off to no end. Thanks also go out to our Canadian friends that over, you guys are a hoot, and Marty give Chris a kick in the backside for me will ya. Tipp you also missed getting to run with a guy that came all the way from Indianapolis to race with us, what a nut. Thanks to all that came out, made some new friends and got to catch up with an old friend. Woohoo time for some dirt. well, Casey knows why I wasn't there, and I sure hope he understands health is more important to me than racing. and for you :freak: I could care less what you think because I've never seen you at the cellar or Gr. go piss into the wind some more toytech 05-03-2012, 06:03 PM Hey guys, Sorry bout' hijacking this thread for so much oval discussion, (Casey closed the "oval" one, befor anyone could comment) I look foward to racing every chance that I can.
