View Full Version : Hobby World Paved Oval Official Thread. It's Back
BIGDOGRC 10-16-2002, 12:45 AM Well guys here's the Hobby World Thread. Is anyone going to run 12th scale 19t with me. Or am I going to have to break out the 10th scale.
Come on I know their are guys wanting to run 12th scale. Small and FAST!!!!!!:dude:
joespec 10-19-2002, 08:47 PM Don't know if you will get any takers for 1/12th scale,I went out to Hobby World last weekend, and checked the surface, the last sealer coat is cracking,.......I wouldn't want to run 12th scale on it,matter of fact,I went back to a pod-mounted wing on my 1/10 scale, just to get a little more traction,.......get out your 10th scale oval rocket and run! I'll be there as much as work will allow........see ya!
joespec 10-19-2002, 08:50 PM You over here on the Hobby World thread yet? Did you run last friday? What class,......and how did you fare? I was going to try to make it friday night, but I had to work,I just got off saturday evening as well. But the car is close, and I'm going to try to get out there sunday, and do some fine tuning.Hope to race you next friday!:D
irvan36mm 10-19-2002, 11:40 PM Joespec-
Yes,I raced at HW this past Friday! We had a pretty good/decent turnout! After losing my notes from the asphalt days & struggling with a push in the turns,I finally got the car to hook up very well yesterday (Sat 10/19). I may make it out this Sunday also & refine/ fine-tune the car for next Friday night!(10/25) Ran 4-cell 19 turn but the stock motor ran pretty good as well. Kinda looked slow running out on the track, but it was pretty good! (I ran the stock motor in practice while Adam was tuning my 19t motor!)
Hope to see you Sunday!
-George
PS: Go back to pod-mounted wing! That's why the car wasn't right!
I ran thursday night practice with the 1/12 scale. I ran 3 packs and very little chassis scratches. Looked slow in the huge track, but Ill have mine next Friday ready to go just incase. Carpet track gearing may also have played in the SLOW part of it.. maybe taller gears to make up for the size????
We got 2.... need 3 more
BullFrog 10-20-2002, 08:41 PM I'm going to wait awhile before I race 1/12th- like when the carpet comes back.It shouldn't be to long.
chazracer 10-20-2002, 11:00 PM  I ran on friday night and had some problems with my car and top speed. Can anybody help with whatgear ratio to start with.
katf1sh 10-20-2002, 11:02 PM chaz at cpt we ran a 32-120 and thattrack is smaller than what you are running on now. if it's not a real tight track with nice wide turns and long straight try a 32 -110 or something like that. or ask adam from atomic he is the shell answer man!
chazracer 10-20-2002, 11:05 PM Thanks Katfish I haven"t run oval at hobby world in a long time so any info will be a big help
GeorgiaFordFan 10-21-2002, 10:46 AM Chazracer
40-42/100 Is a good place to start for that super speedway. It is what some of us were running when we took a break. 2.3"-2.35" tire diameter.
metrodog 10-23-2002, 06:27 PM Chazracer,
Come see me friday and I will get you the right gear. Just ask for greg everybody knows me.
chazracer 10-23-2002, 07:05 PM Thanks Metrodog I will look for you on friday night
hurricaneracing 10-23-2002, 10:57 PM As far as gears I have been running 39 108 I may not be the fastest there but that seems to work really good;)
irvan36mm 10-23-2002, 11:03 PM Jeremy-
Not the fastest?? Maybe or maybe not,but I'll say that you're one of the fastest guys out there!! You're always a threat every week!!
-George
hurricaneracing 10-23-2002, 11:17 PM George-

metrodog 10-24-2002, 11:34 AM Hopefully the problems I diagnosed sun and cured will help me trade paint with jeremey and george. LOL

We run three qualifiers on sundays wooohooo! Weakest chameleon I have right now is a 94 on the power and 26k rpms. You guys just racin at superior now? If things calm down for me work wise I might have to come down and see if anybody in 4-cells got anything.LOL
Greg:wave:

irvan36mm 10-26-2002, 01:17 AM Kat & Rich-
I took 2nd in the 4 cell 19turn A main after comitting an unintentional bump-drafting incident w/the 2nd place car! The car was really fast! It was even faster when sliding 30' down the backstretch upside down-TWICE IN THE SAME RACE! I don't think I've ever had a Protoform Dodge Intrepid body without a road rash on its roof! I can't remember what Greg finished in B main 19t,though. I think racing for about 2 months on the carpet helped hone my driving skills further!
-George
davepull 10-26-2002, 01:37 AM this wasmy first time there. wow the lighting is a little tricky and so are the bumps but overall it wasn't as bad as I heard. still can't run a 12th scale there but hey it works ok for touring car.
BRDRACING 10-26-2002, 07:41 PM irvan36mm,
Was Greg fast then the past?
brooks
joespec 10-26-2002, 08:56 PM Was alot of fun! It was good to race on the speedway again! The 4-cell mod main was good, everyone on the same lap, until the very end. Got to get some new batteries! George was on fire! He got ripped off in the first qualifier,......and I saw the slide down the back-stretch,even upside down, the first ten feet were pretty quick,LOL! I ran my personal best in that class last night as well, just got to pick up a few tenths a lap.One thing I noticed,...after a few months on carpet, the driving seemed to be better overall,....less crashes. Good job to everyone who showed up! Hope to get to race next friday night! Hey George, are you going to be running sunday? I'll be there at noon,......bought some new fronts. see ya!

Hey Brooks!
I think that Greg is a bit faster (not by much) this time around, but at least it's staying on the track longer than usual! He's got good motors & batteries-just has to work on the driving & car set-up. If he really sits down and works on those two things, then the speed will really show though! Until then,it will go really fast into the wall or even out of the race early! I hate to sound critical, but there's some untapped potential there somewhere!
Joespec-
Yes,I did get ripped off there in the first qual, didn't I ?? I'll be there Sunday! See you there!
Davepull-
Yes,the track's a little tricky-even on the oval, too! But the challenge is that the track conditions changes all of the time! A lot of times the setup that you have on your car 2 minutes ago may not cut the cheese 1 minute later! It's a handful to stay ahead of the track conditions, but ya gotta think that the full-size race teams (NASCAR,IRL,F-1,etc) have to do that too!! Just gotta be ready for it! Hope to see you there next time!!

cneyedog 10-26-2002, 11:40 PM George, Congrats on your finish!
irvan36mm 10-26-2002, 11:55 PM Thanks,Rich! I was drafting the 2nd place guy (Frankie) all throughout the mains and all of the sudden,my car sucked into his back-end and hit him. I apologized to him afterwards, but he was (understandingly!) disappointed. He had a really good night until the mains! I expect him to get me back sometime soon on the track, but I deserve it!
That's one of them racing deals!!

joespec 10-30-2002, 01:39 PM Hey Man,....got a question,....when did we say that we were going to fix the track? We talked about it sunday, but did we get a fix on a time? Glad you and Bob were there sunday! I knew that it would take a day to get the car sorted out. I love oval!! It's to easy, once you get the car right,....aahhh,there's the rub,....getting it right in the first place! Hope to get to race friday! Hey,is Bob on this site? see ya:cool:
What kinda of onraod bodies are we allowed to run at Hobby World??
irvan36mm 10-31-2002, 03:56 PM Jarc-
If you're inquiring about the touring bodies,I think it's the standard 4-door bodies. I don't think there's anyone running 1/10 pan or 1/12 onroad there right now. It wouldn't be a bad idea to run a 2-door 1/10 touring class, though!!
-George
Dont the "big guys" run either/or in a touring race? Why limit it to just 4-door? Or are they afraid my 2 door Panoz will kick their butt?

Jarc-
I think that the Touring rules stems from the European touring (or "Saloon" as it's called over there!) series in which they run 4-door cars (Vauxhalls,Euro Ford Mondeos (Ford Contour to us Americans!), Alfa Romeos, etc). You know what,I believe they run 2-door cars as well, come to think about it now. Sometimes, you could catch those races on Speed channel-late at night,of course! I've only seen the Panoz race in an American series that's shown on CBS. I believe Boris Said was laying whips on everyone (in a Panoz??) last time I watched a race!!!!
To see Panoz bodies running with Acuras,Mitsubishi Eclipses and others would be really cool since a lot of people here could identify w/those cars! Hey,how's about a 2-door "Fast And Furious" on-road class! HMMMMM??
If you could get 2 more drivers to run 2-door bodies, you could make a class up & run a race! I'm an oval guy but I know of one driver that would love to run his 2-dr body in a touring race. Come up w/ one more guy & I think you've started something cool and different!! Ask around & see if anyone's interested in running such a class-you may be surprised!!!
-George
davepull 10-31-2002, 11:59 PM stick with the stratus 2.0 or original stratus they provide the best overall handling
BullFrog 11-01-2002, 02:28 PM Jarc- In the Florida state series we've modified the rules to allow most of the two door bodies. They just have to be inspected by the one person committee- me.As for what they allow at Hobby world you should contact the track owners.By the way this will be the second year we've allowed those bodies and they are listed on the series web site.Personelly speaking if it handles like the TRV -good luck.
metrodog 11-01-2002, 02:51 PM The hell with it just run nascar bodies on those darn touring cars.LOL:lol:
BRDRACING 11-01-2002, 02:53 PM You planning to put a bi-level wing on it too LOL:lol:
brooks
metrodog 11-01-2002, 02:57 PM They weigh a ton as it is shouldn't need one. LOL
joespec 11-01-2002, 03:00 PM Since you was setting up an oval car anyway, are you going to run 4-cell mod.with us? Sure would like to have you in there! Even I,the king of cheap, broke down and bought high-wear tires,.....go figure?
joespec 11-01-2002, 03:03 PM That new oval car you bought sure is nice,.....and it's a shame that you don't have a scratch on it yet, when are you coming to race?
metrodog 11-01-2002, 03:09 PM I talked to dan a little while ago and he said he's going to be there tonight. I guess i won't run last tonight then. LOL:lol:
