David Butts 03-25-2004, 07:01 PM Woo hoo! The wifey is fine. Sore but fine. So it looks like I'll be racing not only friday night but sunday too. Heck I might make ormond if the stars are in perfect alignment.
Kevin, If I'm not mistaken any class that runs five or more races of the points series qualify for a plaque.
Shawn, Dave P. is the master of the catbrain not monkey brains. Dont ask, You dont really want to see it.
Donnie. Cant wait to race with you and Jerry at the same time. Maybe while y'all are duking it out I can slip by for the win.
Oh yeah I'm feeling better now that the pressure is off.
Lee, As of right now I'm planning on running sunday so come on out. It only takes three to make a class.
Oh yeah did I mention my wife is ok?
See y'all at the track
rcovalracer 03-25-2004, 07:22 PM I will be there tomorrow night, anyone else running 4 cell stock? David?
I think Jerry mentioned he will be there tomorrow night as well.Glad to hear your wife is fine. Kevin
Echeconnee 03-25-2004, 08:12 PM How many will be coming to Macon on the 4th?
shawnleary 03-25-2004, 08:14 PM Butts, yea you're right, i forgot, cat brains, maybe mice brains now that I recall the actual display.... I've had a couple sessions of pshyco-therapy to get over that. ;) Bring those pics tomorrow night and I'll get them up on the site.
New92 03-25-2004, 08:16 PM Glad to hear things worked out Butts(tm)!
:)
parrott88 03-25-2004, 08:55 PM Glad to hear everythings alright. The 88 hauler will be pulling into Jax. around 6:30 or so. See Ya ....
davepull 03-25-2004, 11:04 PM Well,if the turn 3 lights haven't been replaced yet,I wonder if we could use their (HW) orange double-light-tree-thingy to light-up that corner? We'll have to ask Friday night.
-George
I they have a stand up light to put in the corner then what are we waiting for. I'll bring a cord.
davepull 03-25-2004, 11:12 PM looks like a strong field for 4 cell stock
me , butts, parrot, malin?, donnie, shannon, lee?
took the car out tonight felt ok looked slow.
Shawn I started out running 1/12th 6 cell stock (oval) I finished 15th @ the 95 carpet nats. then joined the Navy when I got out in 2000 I ran a little 1/10th 6 cell stock and mod (oval) then picked up 1/12th road course. did that for 2 years then moved down here in 2002 started running some off road Mod truck then got the touring car and the rest is history. I had A L4 when they first came out sold it to Rob. that car was evil.
rcovalracer 03-26-2004, 03:41 AM looks like a strong field for 4 cell stock

davepull 03-26-2004, 10:21 AM cool kevin
irvan36mm 03-26-2004, 02:43 PM I they have a stand up light to put in the corner then what are we waiting for. I'll bring a cord.
DaveP- They should have a long-a$$ extension cord there for portable lights. We used it during the "remodeling" process.
Shawn- You really don't wan't to see "catbrains"! If ya really want to know, just ask Matt Francis!
Butts (tm)- Good to hear about your wifey! Smells like a 4-cell stock rematch brewing between Team HW,starring Dave P and Butts(tm) (aka **"Starsky & Hutch"! lol) & the "Branford All-Stars"! lol
-George
** Or "Beavis & Butthead"-your choice! lol
David Butts 03-26-2004, 04:55 PM Oh boy! Tonight is going to be fun. Not too hot and not too cool so the racing should be really good. It's a shame we dont have our own race rock we could chill out at after the races.
shrabber 03-27-2004, 02:40 AM buttsy glad to hear that your wife is doing ok i cant wait to we race  again
David Butts 03-27-2004, 08:57 AM buttsy glad to hear that your wife is doing ok i cant wait to we race  again
Tim, We had 8 stock cars show up lastnight. Where were you? It was the start of the points series and as such it is the first time(I think)that 4c stock has been run for points. The track was clean and fast. The record fell two different times(toot! toot!, I'll toot my own horn later)during the night. Actually had an "A" and "B" main too.
Thanks goes out to everyone who've asked about my wife both on here and at the track. I guess r/c racers are'nt the ruthless cold blooded individuals I've always thought they were. Well atleast off of the drivers stand anyway.
David Butts 03-27-2004, 09:01 AM Just a note to remind everyone that there will be racing tomorrow(sunday)at the largest paved track in west Jacksonville. All normal classes will be run and it's gonna be nice weatherwise too.
This has been a totally unsolicited public service announcement.
davepull 03-27-2004, 11:14 AM 4 cell stock was a blast butts and parrot ripping off 7.3's i think i did some 7.4's all three of us went 32 laps in the main. with Butthead setting the new track record. parrot and I both broke it too in the main.
Shannon is starting to get the hang of the 4 cell stock deal it was a pleasure to race with yah and sorry about the spur gear check. just had to make sure you were running one. oh yah nice trailer.
I would like to thank David Butts for all the help over the week. this guy delievered me a setup right down to the body post lenth. so i would look like a skull out there. Thanks Dave your a class act and that is something that is getting harder to find these days.
also would like to thank Dan from BIGDOGRC.COM he hooked me up with all the parts needed to make this L4 fly.
shawnleary 03-27-2004, 12:03 PM Nice racing stock guys, that was fun. Congrats to Butts on a new track record!!! 32 4:02
David Butts 03-27-2004, 02:42 PM Well you had to know this was coming. Lastnight was a total blast as far as my races went, Too be honest I was working on motors and such and didnt hardly watch any other races except for the ones I marshalled. Jerry Parrott has raised the bar in stock to the point that you really cant just sit back and charge batteries and expect to run with him so I did'nt.
First off in the first qualifier Jerry beat the not quite a month old track record by 3.16 seconds to lower it to a 32 4:03.56. I started real strong in the lead from the second lap on and felt totally helpless as lap by lap his times were just a tick quicker than mine and I was cutting almost a perfect line repeatedly and on the 17th lap he had caught me so rather than chance taking us both out I went high in three and four and let him have the line. The result was his new record and my best ever and first 32 lapper at 32 4:06.17 which also beat the previous record by .55 seconds. No sir that would'nt be the closest margin of the night. Like I said, It was some good racin lastnight.
Dave"catbrains"Puliafico ran a 31 4.00.09 which was faster than my previous best and it was his first try in stock at hobby world. Shannon Stevenson also ran a strong 30 4:04.47 to end it up.
Now the second qual. I gave the trigger a banzai squeeze since Dave P and I were on the front row together and my car just launched straight and true into the first turn and pulled away from the pack.
My second lap was and still is the fastest recorded by a stock car at a 7.2. Did it again on the 4th lap and whole bunch of 7.3's and 4's but once again here came that darn #88 car. This time though I wasnt as ready to just give him the line and we raced clean and hard to a new record of 32 4:02.80 beating the now 1 1/2 hour old record by .076 seconds Yikes! Jerry finished just .26 seconds behind me for a nailbiter of a finish. But wait theres more. Dave P. also ran a 7.3 but pulled off to as he says "watch the race". My avg lap was 7.58 to Jerry's 7.59
At 33.065 mph to his 33.021.
Oh yeah the 4c stock record is now for the time being atleast faster and quicker than the 6c spec cars. He heh!
Now the main was preceded by some smackdown being tossed around and for good reason. There were now three cars capable of winning and five cars on the track since Steve Short had made the "A" from the b qual, Congrats Steve.
Well now. This is gonna be good and people would pay to see racing like we had lastnight. Once again from the start my associated car launched like a top fueler and was outta here and once again cut a 7.2 and a whole bunch of 7.3's and 4's but the same thing as in the previous two races. Here comes that, Wait a minute thats Dave P's car I'm seeing coming up on me and he's dragging along that darn #88 car. What's with that? And there was absolutely nothing I could do but hit my lines and pray for the big one(wreck guys, This is a family show)that never happened but on the 29th lap Jerry finally got around Dave and set his sights on my #37 "BUTTS" ride. With time running out(thank god)he wasnt able to get around me and we finished with my 32 4:05.77 to his 32 4:05.85 or just .080 behind with Dave P..87 behind me and .79 behind Jerry. And thats when it happened. Dave P. on his first outing hit the magical 32 lap run with a 32 4:06.64 that now only He, Jerry and I have. done. That run would've been the track record just three heats earlier. Oh yeah stock is back and it's close and fun. I should also mention how easy everyone is to race with in stock. In the main I took a three lap pass around Shannons right side because I ended up there coming off turn two then couldnt pull off the pass so we just drove that way for seemed like forever. I wouldnt try that in the other oval classes. Thats when the big one happens.
The new but shortlived record as I'm sure now there's a 33 lap run in stock happening soon is with an avg laptime that was un heard of for a fast lap just a month ago at 7.58. Speed wise the stock cars are cruising to the tune of 7.2= 34.810 mph 7.3=34.333 7.4=33.869. Will we see a stock car go 7.0's ? Stay tuned race fans.
And until next time.
Gentlemen you have less than 5 seconds till the start of your race.
New92 03-27-2004, 02:50 PM wow.
Sheesh, now I really wish I had gotten off of the couch and went out there.
David Butts 03-27-2004, 03:00 PM Congrats goes out to all the winners lastnight since its the start of a points series.
Dan McClinton from www.bigdogrc.com runs his first 35 lapper in 19t and sets tq. Now only Phil Owen, Tom Marlowe, Myself and Dan have done that.Honestly I dont remember who tq'd and won pro-spec but they also were cruising. Was it me or was the track really fast and clean lastnight? I never even had to blow the dust off my car.
Thanks for the kind words Dave. I already said I'd help ya move. Enough is enough :jest:
rcovalracer 03-27-2004, 03:32 PM After battling my car with the "glitching gremlin" all night on the backstrectch  And meeting the brick behind the pipe that is there for the touring track numerous times, broke about everything possible last night but It was worth it just to watch you guys run the 4 cell stock A-Main.Congratulations to David for the win and the rest of you guys in the A-Main last night, that was a hell of a race, and the heats.
Butts (TM) Congratulations on the track record. Kevin

David Butts 03-27-2004, 05:21 PM Everyone. I just got a call that my wife is coming home tomorrow so I wont be racing afterall like I had planned. I have the practice clock so I'll take it to the track before she arrives. It'll be hard to not stay and race but she's been gone almost a month now.
shawnleary 03-27-2004, 06:09 PM Good news david, glad she is well.
David Butts 03-27-2004, 06:32 PM Anybody up for a road trip next sunday the 4th? I want to go to echeconnee superspeedway which is up near macon. If I go I'm planning on driving up early sunday and back home sunday night. Hey I drive for a living so it's no big deal to me. Suppose to be a real nice smooth concrete(cap tires)track with plenty of powered pitspace.
Come'on grow ya some!
polachjm 03-27-2004, 08:46 PM Dave do you want some airbrush paint. I have about 5 or 6 bottles of faskolor that came with a car on trade. I do not have an airbrush. I will give it to you if you will paint my next tc.
Jason
parrott88 03-27-2004, 10:27 PM Hey everyone, Had a great time last night. Congrats to the Dave's on there runs. That's what keeps me doing this.
The old 88 car got edged out at the line not once but twice, by ( and this is the worst part) a yellow and pink car. Good, clean, FAST, racing last night guys, Lets do it again.
Good to hear your wife's coming home. I think I will take tomorrow off to, Got to get ready to battle that purple car next sunday. MAN..... sure dos'nt get any easier. ya'll need to slow down alittle bit so I can catch my breath.
If possible, Ya'll try to make it to macon. BUT WORDS OF ADVICE.... Bring your fast car. Track records are going to fall. That you can count on, And your going to have to pass that purple car to do it. HOPE TO SEE EVERYONE THERE.
Once again great run BUTTS.
DAVE P , I hear that was your first time running stock........ Something tells me thats not true( I hope).. I will take you up on painting the body.
SEE YA
davepull 03-27-2004, 10:57 PM i tried my hand @ oval once before with a L4 @ HW in 19t before the track was paved. I ran like 7 batteries through it and sold it. With this car the A main was the 4th battery in it. so yah it was the first time @ hw and pavement for me but I am no rookie when it comes to driving a oval car. it was a blast
On the body just bring a body and a 88 decal so I have a template.
I'll be moving all next week and weekend so i'll so everybody on the 9th.
davepull 03-27-2004, 11:00 PM Jason I don't have a airbrush it is all done with cans. thanks anyways
and to think 2 months ago I had to Beg, and plead, for some guys to run the stockers with me . :p Happy to see the class growing
Sounds like everyone had a great time, had to work, busy week-end with Spring Break.
Glad your wife is doing good David, hope you can make it on the 4th will enjoy rubbing fenders with you on some caps.
Shawn ...the Dirt Oval picture brought back some great memories Thanks

Shawn ...the Dirt Oval picture brought back some great memories Thanks
Wade. glad to see you on here again. Yeah you've been missing some real good racing and it was basically you who several months ago started asking about running stock so look what it's come to. And you arent there. ???
That picture of hobby world when it was clay is mine and I have a whole bunch of them as well as a bunch of others from races I went to around the southeast both concrete and dirt oval as well as onroad. I gave Shawn several friday night and he's going to scan them for his and George Ramos's(R) underground hobby world superspeedway website for an historical style picture page. Sadly I dont have any of the cars because once we started the days racing I had to run the races back then.
Oh yeah I'm gonna try real hard to get up to Clifford's next sunday. I'll see who I can bring along with me.
David Butts 03-28-2004, 08:25 AM The old 88 car got edged out at the line not once but twice, by ( and this is the worst part) a yellow and pink car. Good, clean, FAST, racing last night guys, Lets do it again.
SEE YA
Ok Jerry, If it will make you feel better I'll paint a special all Pink "I beat Jerry Parrott" body by the next time we race. I didnt know you disliked yellow so much :jest: I'm gonna have to pick me up some new motors too, That one monster has almost no comm left on it but it still strolls. I think I'm going to try dropping a tooth or two after looking at the lap times closely. Lets run 19t sometime in the future. 7.2's are fast but 6.5's are a blast.
Hmm? Who's gonna get the first 33 lap stock run in at hw? Will it be a Yellow #88, a black and orange#17, a pink, yellow and white#37 or a purple car that I dont know the #on? Stay tuned race fans this summer is going to be interesting both here and at the other area tracks.
Donnie_99 03-28-2004, 08:48 AM Hey everyone, Had a great time last night. Congrats to the Dave's on there runs. That's what keeps me doing this.

Is the points series ran every Friday night for 7 weeks?
No off weeks?I can't wait to come back with a glitch free car,
and run on a Sunday also.
See ya guys in Macon if you guys come. Kevin
David Butts 03-28-2004, 10:11 AM Somehow I forgot that Donnie99's car was a #99 car.??? I typed that before I had my first cup of java this am. I'm all better now.
Kevin, From what I understand the points races are seven consecutive friday nights only to be interupted by the weather or the lap counter not showing up and there are two throwouts so a racer concievably could win it with five good races. I have to work late every third friday so I may not make them all either.
Donnie, We switched the sundays to alternate with Branford so the next sunday will be in two weeks.
David Butts 03-28-2004, 12:01 PM Well somehow I forgot to mention another driver who has been semi-regularly making the trip to race with us at hw. Kevin Lang from Lake City Fl. If we gave out a goody's(tm)headache award he would've been the reciepient friday night.
He experienced severe radio problems all night but never gave up. His car took many unexpected turns on the back straight and several of them put his car right into the turnin for the road course. Let me tell ya from experience, That pipe thats supported by a piece of concrete doesnt lose many battles as I have had a skirmish with it myself, it won that one too.
Kevin is to be commended for fighting the good fight as he is a nice guy who really enjoys racing and does a pretty good website for the Branford track. Check it.
Actually there are several racers that come from out of town on a regular basis of which Shannon Stephenson and a couple of his friends are some of. I dont know everyones name just yet but I'm getting there. Thanks for coming out y'all. it's fun just shooting the breeze with you guy's and the racing is just a plus. Hey we are at a race track you know?
rcovalracer 03-28-2004, 05:58 PM Thanks Butts (TM), I can honestly say after hitting that turn for the road course,it did no justice on my car,and then it glitched in another heat and lost a rear axle, and done several cart wheels.
I plan on making a day race sometime soon. Well the first night I was there I was turning some 7.8's and 7'9's pretty consistant, but with you guys hitting 7.4's, 7.5's, I have some wrenching to do.
I would like to say that I met Shannon in Branford and watched him in Jacksonville,he is going to be someone to contend with, JMO (Just My Opinion), plus he is a kool guy to talk with at the track.
Yes and hats off to Dave P. for a great run Friday night. He is fasttt in oval.
Hope to see you guys in Macon on the 4th. Kevin

polachjm 03-28-2004, 07:59 PM What tire compounds are you guys running for 4 cell stock? I had caps on today and the car handled good but it seemed slow.
davepull 03-28-2004, 08:52 PM trc magenta rears and purple fronts
David Butts 03-28-2004, 09:29 PM What tire compounds are you guys running for 4 cell stock? I had caps on today and the car handled good but it seemed slow.
Yep just like Dave P. said, TRC magenta rears and purple fronts. I looked in the store and there are none so call and ask them to order some. I used to run purple rears with a red right front and a purple left so either way the car will be fine. As a matter of fact that original red tire has lost almost no diameter so if money is real tight you and a friend could split a set and never buy a right front tire again. You could try running the spec tires that they have so many of but because of their faster wear characteristics they wont last as long. My first set of the expensive tires lasted me 4 months.
Any good brand of tire will work as well as the TRC's but hw carries(when they have them at all)only trc mostly with a couple sets of jaco on the wall at times.
I also ran 1 battery at the track today with caps on the car. Turn four was a little spooky the first couple of laps but after that the car was hooked and ran like 9 minutes with a 19t motor in it.
irvan36mm 03-28-2004, 09:48 PM Butts(tm)- How was the racing today? give us the (gory) details!! lol

Not enough people to race so more ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------get the idea yet?------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------. It's a real shame too because it was a beautiful day.
shawnleary 03-29-2004, 02:06 PM 15 bucks too much for Sunday racing.
