Hi guys,

Good debate on-line. I wish more people would check in. It would be cool if all of our lap times and results were on the web. I think our ten bucks a week could handle that!! All in favor!

See you all Friday,
Shawn

Whats a good starting point for the hight on the spoiler for this track?

irvan36mm

Vince-
Max allowable height is 2 inches. I am currently running the full 2" on the spoiler,as are some of the other drivers (give or take a couple of 1/16" )

Thanks George, that makes it alot simpler for me then.  Do you have it attached to the front or the back of the spoiler on the body?
I promise this will be the last question on here tonight lol.

I think we all should take a look at the class brooks races in. ^-cell spec pak, Pan Car chasis, and a spec motors.

Joe spec
You no I want a cheap second class to ru. Why do ya think I bought that antique I'm running? But if we can make the switch to a pan car I have an L3 and a switchblade I can pull outa moth balls.

Hell any swollen toes I'm sorry but I just wanna race more than one class and if it means running legends I got one of those too!

Kat and C-dog
Did I here you guys are making a road trip to jax for a little 4-cell stock action? There goes the neighborhoood! LOL

Vince-
Sounds like you're running a BoLink body w/the molded-in spoiler! The extension is usually attatched to the front of the molded-in spoiler to take advantage of the spoiler angle. If you feel you want a steeper angle, attach to the rear of the molded spoiler.

If you're coming out tonight (Friday),look for me & we'll talk! I'll be on the back wall (under the "Hobby World" sign) w/a red Dodge Spec & a red, white and blue 4-cell 19 turn-they're both numbered "45" !

BTW-I don't mind the questions!!

I'll be out there tonight but I won't be racing because I can't stay too long. My wife has to work so I have to watch our 2 year old (future racer  ).

dogfood is gonna be out of town sunday so i guess i'm lending my 6 cell carpet car to a buddy so he can whoop up on billy at min -reg. he he good luck to all .. hey do the spec packs only come in a stick form? if so it would be hard to use an adx or hyper drive or kgb car to name a few. the cells on the pod would become useless and the car wouldn't work nearly as well. so this chassis thing could be a mute point anyway.

BullFrog

yes they only come in stick packs. Bolink use to make a clear lexan battery holder that would work on that car.If I give my opinion someone might get upset because I don't race oval.

RACE ON!

It was voted on and we race Friday.

I might not see some until then, so have a great Thanksgiving.

At the racers meeting last night, John took a vote on racing the friday after Thanksgiving. There will be racing Friday night. If 50% of points drivers show, there will be points racing. Otherwise we will just be playing. But there is definitely racing next Friday.

Good racing last night. John Hart drove right behind John Pilgram for the entire a-main 4cellmod. Hart finally catches him in the final lap around turns one and two. He pulls ahead of pilgram and goes into turn 3 with a three foot lead. Hart stays in the middle tyring to take up the entire track with his teal machine. Pilgrim says, "not tonight", dives down low with red white and blue and takes the win. There was a little rubbing at the end of turn 4, but that's racing... Awesome awesome race. Always a good show with the Johns. No Joe in the A, he took the B main.

Mike made it out last night for Street Spec. Would be nice to see some of the other spec drivers from before coming out. Troy sounds like he will be out there again real soon. Jay's friend Greg will be getting out there before Christmas, also with a spec car. Good racing guys, keep it up.

Street Spec isn't dead!!! New battery coming out next month. Enough drivers for two mains, if we all made it out there. See ya next Friday.

Shawn-
You're absolutely right! Street Spec is not dead! @ Hobby World! Would also love to see more of the Specs (and the Legends!) come out and race. You may see more after the new batts are available! As far as my 4-cell & Spec, they weren't running up to snuff. The Spec needs new batteries (1600 Specs, preferably!) and the 4-cell needs good motors. I'm working w/the "Big Mutts" on the motor deal & should have something soon for the 4-cell,so don't count me out yet!

Also went to the Autohaus race tonight (Sat) & watched! Hats off to Jay,Chuck & the rest of the guys of North Florida R/C Club! That's a pretty neat deal they have going on out there-check it out sometime!!!! I'll definitely be there Dec 7 w/ my 4-cell & Spec car!!

Joe are you getting that 3000 pack rewrapped by Dan with the Spec stickers back on them? : )

I went saturday to watch a couple of the races at Kmart on Blanding. I wasn't very impressed. The first heat of 4cell mod had four drivers. One made it across the finish line. The next race was Street Spec. Four drivers started. One finished.

I took my car out before the start of the heats, just to get a feel for the track. 1.) Too small. 2.) Very sandy, slippery. Different tires and lower gearing might have helped me though, since my car is setup for the Super Speedway at Hobby World. : ) 3.) Races were supposed to start at 4pm. Didn't start until 5:30pm. 4.) Took me 45 minutes to get home going north on blanding. It took me five to get there, 5 miles. 5.) No Power

The Hobby world track blows it away. Without a question.
When they lift the ROAR membership requirement next year I would still probably race there on a saturday. But I would definitely not try to leave there and go north on 21 ever again during that time, especially getting closer to XMAS. That area is so crazy. HW much more convienent.

I don't mean to diss the place or what they are trying to do. I'm just commenting soley on the conditions of the track and the location of it. My vote is still with the Hobby World track.

What happens when nobody shows up - and its a parking lot race. You get afew guys complaing. The traffic does S____ on Blanding. But then it's very close to the mall and Xmas time for shoppers.
As for the other gentleman yes the turn out was also small for the hooters race but we had 21 entries. The 4 cell stock class was won by Tom Marlowe,Thunder Trucks by Frank Pupello, Legends by Me and Touring by Michael . The Bullring Legends race was won by Joe Malin in the last few laps over Tom Marlowe (100-98).Trophy were handout and pictures taken with the Hooters girls.Well ya'll that didn't show - the 3rd Annual is is history and probably finished.
I thank those that did show up and race.

Shawn,

The track there is smaller than HW, but that's the nature of racing in a parking lot. The sand had to do with moving the location of the track; they were having another event where we usually race. It's a lot better in the other location. That part of the lot looked like it has never been cleaned; we did the best we could with blowers. As far as the starting late, this was the first race we had transponders for, so it took a little time getting everything set up for the first time. And the traffic on Blanding does suck, but it always has. It only took me 5 min. to get home at 9:30.

HW does have a nice palce to race because it is permanent. I seem to have a much better time racing with the North Florida R/C Club guys. I end up going home in a much better mood than when I leave HW. I haven't had anything major break out there, and the competition seems to be a little more even. Hope you come back out and give it another try.

Shawn,
As far as power, I don't own a generator but had no problems finding power that I needed and between george and we will have a generator soon. As far as the track being sandy it is a parking lot race and that is to be expected. Just the work that is involved in setting up a temp facility is huge but to make it work with two other things going on in the same lot WOW! GOOD JOB, JAY, CHUCK, and ALEX. I've been there three times to race and have been asked my input and opinion each time. Other race directors could learn a thing or two. By the way the sand didn't seem to bothor me, It actually makes you a better driver! I believe I did have the fastest oval lap at 7.5 sec.! Before ya dis it please give it a try, I can help with the sand ask jay! LOLOLOL

Well all I can say is those that showed, got their car set up, and participated had for the most part a GOOD TIME. Some showed and could not get their car to work so they just left. Some of the same ones that have trouble getting a slot car to go around the track. All that stayed had a fun time. As usual we got started a little late but the race was completed before dark. Turnout was light but still had the usual diehards race. Congrats to the 'A' Main winners. The Legends 100 lap race was a hoot. Need to do more shorttrack racing. The 100 was just like a Bristol race with bumping and grinding, shoving and pushing, and all having a fun time. No tempers flared, No unkind words, not a waste of time, just R/C guys enjoying themselves. Thanks to Bill for putting this on and I will look to next years race.

Thanks again to all to came out and raced.

Joe Mama :) :)

I try to keep NFLRC and my buisness out of HW forum for a reason.
This is not the place to post info about them here. If you want you can do so at www.nflrc.com . Maybe then it will get noticed by the powers to be in NFLRC, and not the guys at HW who have nothing to do with it but have an open invite to race.

Atleast make the effort to make it to FLORIDA before you pass judgement.

Small computer prob was the reason for the time delay, but that was fixed with the use of a backup laptop. The guys who showed up and stayed to race had alot of fun, including myself. You could see it in the faces. But then again you cant see something you where never at.

Again, I don't want to sound like a broken record. I guess I'm looking for good competitive racing. The more people, the better the chance of some good races occuring. I have a blast at HW and I would probably have a blast at Kmart as well. The thing I desire is the competition. The competition, to me, is almost everything. If you want to race against the best in jacksonville, Hobby World is where it is at. Case closed.

If the Roar membership is removed, which I've heard it will be next year, I will come out and support it. I have no beef with anyone anywhere, and didn't mean to step on anyone's toes. I meant no disrespect to the hard working folks who put on Kmart and support RC in general.

Shawn- They will keep on racing and requiring ROAR Membership@NFLR/C.Just where do you think the rules they use at HW come from?ROAR provides the insurance and rules that everybody uses and many don't pay for!Next time your at HW world look at their front window. All thought they didn't put on the event they have the sign in front. I would say much more but I've going to hold back.I' going to close with this simply statement"ROAR has done more for R/C racers in Jacksonville than most racers think."

shawnleary
11-25-2002, 07:54 PM
I heard that the ROAR requirement wasn't going to be used starting next year at Kmart racing. I was holding out for that to happen before I start racing at Kmart. I figured 30 bucks for just the month of December wasn't worth it. But if they will continue requiring ROAR membership, then I guess I will have to sign up.
Anyone have more clues on this? Thanks in advance.

I appreciate what everyone has done in the past and present to keep RC racing in jax alive. I'm loving it now. Glad to see racing again over on my side of town.

I have been racing in Jacksonville for over 15 years now. I find it very interesting the politics that have developed over the years. This town is divided over shops and ROAR. What gives. Is not the goal to enjoy the race. A bad night at the track is better than a good day at work. There is no need to bad mouth anyone of the groups running a race. HW has an advantage of a track that was built by Bill, though no one gives him the credit he deserves for it. The Kmart group is developing into a decent race but does have the disadvantage of a set-up and tear-down. Arlington has off-road and an oval that could have been the greatest. I applaud all 3 groups for racing and giving me a choice to race what I want where I want. Maybe the groups would have it easier if the racers that like to get on the posts and complain would get involved in the groups and help with the setup and running of the the system. I see the same people running these races. It is not rocket science to run a transponder or blow a track off. Even in the case of a parking lot race put some pipe together. We all spend hours on setup of the cars, spend 30 minutes helping out the track you are racing and quite whining

See you at the track

I bet the 1600 will allow a 5 minute race? What do you think? I think it would cool to try out a 5 minute race, or maybe do some touring Street Spec races at HW. Anyone else want to do a touring race at HW for street spec?

I agree though, I won't be buying any new batteries until those 16's come out. I did buy 5 for 20 bucks off of John M at Kmart on Sat. He had bought them in a large ebay auction. I tested a couple today and got a 9.6V charge to hold on one of them. I've never been able to get over 8.4 on the ones I currently own. What gives? Does anyone know what the max Volt and mAh a 1300 Street SPec 6 cell pack should hold? Jay came over tonight and we tested all of his batteries after peaking them. They never went above 8.5 or so. Most of mine were the same, except for two of the five that I bought off of John, mention before. Is total mAh a more important figure to look at than volts? Anyone know?

wallbanger2
11-25-2002, 10:41 PM
Shawn, I've found the easiest way to check which packs are your "best" (if you don't have a CE turbo35 or other high end equipment). Charge your pack as you normally would, then hook up to your discharge bulbs (or what ever your using). At the 1 min mark take a voltage reading. then time how long it takes to get to 5.40 volts (0.90 per cell) including the first minute.
You can take more reading if you like, such as every 30 seconds until 5.40v is reached. I have found that this is a pretty good ball park benchmark since I don't always have access to high end equipment. You can also see when you have a cell that is going bad.

Oh yeah, you want volts for street spec since this is basically another version of a stock motor. (no adjustable timing)

The same kinda people don't vote but want to complain about the elected officials! I've have personal raced at all three facilities and currently race at 2 and helped break down sat. night! Shawn should have stayed for the mains. He would have seen some very competitive racing!
