I really don't understand the attitude of HW. That track is a gold mine. Every person that races there probably drops at least $100-200 a month at HW. They need to fix the lights. They need to repair the brittle pipes on the road course. They don't clean off the track for us before a race. Its like a bowling alley that expects the bowlers to wax the lanes before a game.

We should consider forming a club of some sort so that we can deal with HW as a group. It may give us a little more clout. Perhaps we could even work some deals where we get free practice time (or at least reduced prices) in exchange for track maintenance and upgrades.

Like it or not, its their track and its the place we race, so we need to develop a better relationship with HW.

you guys understand why they have that relaxed attitude right? you know why they dont clean the track or fix there own lights? c'mon it's easy to figure out..BECAUSE HALF YOU GUYS ON HERE FIX AND REPAIR IT ALL FOR THEM! LOL THAN YOU PAY THEM 15.00 ON TOP OF THAT TO RACE! AWESOME!!!!!!!! IF I OPEN A BUSINESS I WANT YOU ALL AS EMPLOYEES! YOU WORK FOR FREE THAN PAY ME TO WORK THERE! AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAH

look if you all want some awesome practice for the speedway race you all realy need to come to the ormond beach track. it's brand new surface..smooth as glass..nice bite..clean track and mike bean is putting on the show...if you need directions to the track lmk asap wsell@cfl.rr.com we will offer every class that the speedway race will have and than some! no caps....flat asphault freshly paved..gates open at 2 pm racing will start at 5 pm track will be manicured before we set a car on the track..oh yeah and all the lights work and it's bright as day time out there..food on site as well.... team daytona will be in the house! come get some...

oh yeah if you guys would stop going to hobby world during the week and working on the track..eventually they would have to do there own work again...or the track and shop will close...look around and figure out how many of you all read this board and how many of you guys make up the base of racers they have there..if you all dont go for 3 months see what happens...i bet they beg to have you guys back...than again maybe they will be happy selling nothing for 3 months? you need parts call superior hobbies one day shipping in florida and there prices are half what HW sells there stuff for... B O Y C O T T

When I said we need to develop a better relationship with HW, I didn't mean that we need to kiss their butt or anything. I'm new at this hobby and didn't realize that there's so much bad blood between the racers and HW already.

I've never really been treated badly there yet. They usually treat me with indifference, but that's the problem with most specialty stores in Jax. I've lived here for 10 years (no, I didn't come from Up North!) and this town is the worst for having stores that act like its the customers' responsibility to shop there and keep them in business.

The guy at Automotive Engineering actually started yelling at me about a year ago when I told him that I'd just order a part that he didn't stock from Jegs. He started bitchin' that people like me are putting the "mom and pops" out of business for going to internet when we can't find a part locally. He said he can't stock EVERYTHING! The part I needed? An Edelbrock intake manifold for a small-block Chevy--not exactly an exotic part. So, I now buy all the parts for my big car online rather than deal with Jax businesses and their attitude.

The same attitude exists at all the hobby-type stores in town. I've run into it at gun stores, comic book stores, speed shops and now R/C car stores. Even Wayne Weaver and his Jaguars have the attitude. He makes millions of $$$ and expects us to pay for upgrades to the stadium so he can make millions more on a Super Bowl that the locals can't go to because the tickets are already sold, then he berates us for not spending our money on season tickets to watch his team play poorly.

-FYI- I read this on another board...may be interesting

Hey, has anybody heard about a new hobby shop opening at Beach Blvd. and University? I saw a sign today when I was on the way to work that says Exxtreme R/C Hobbies so I stopped and apparently they were not open yet, but the shelves and everything looked like thay were about ready to open. God, we sure need another hobby shop on that side of town. I don't have time to drive to Hobby World on the westside or Art's all the way near the beach. Does anybody know more about who is opening it or when they will be opened? Comments?

dave mike bean runs the oval program once a month in ormond. they run touring cars on friday nights but I WOULD NOT RECCOMEND ANYONE WHO TAKES RACING SEMI SERIOUS TO DRIVE DOWN AND RACE ON FRIDAY NIGHTS. they are kinda out of control and i'm affriad they might make hobby world look good, lol. lots of gas hacks t maxxs and savages and 1/8 off road buggies with foam tires..yikes! do yourself a favor and come down next saturday and race with us..i am hoping phil owen can make it out..

Well, I finally got back to my computer. Man what a mess with this stuff, eh. It's nearly 3am monday morning and I just got home. Three out of four of my trailer tires blew out this weekend. I had to get a buddy in Macon that ownes a tire business to get out of bed, drive a hundred miles with four new tires to my desperate location, install them on the rims and drive home a hundred miles. Talk about service! I am not going to say much about this whole situation with HW except that I hope for the sake of you racers, they change their attitude and warm up to a group of guys who really want to do nothing but race, promote R/C and their race track as well. I guess time will tell. I have been to HW twice in the past month and both times the employees made me wish I had not wasted my time driving to Jacksonville. I have never been to a track(and I have been to a lot of tracks) that was this unhospitable. I hope things change. I look forward to meeting most of you in Daytona, we will be in the biggest red trailer you can find in the pitts. See ya!

:( Sorry to hear about the blown out tires after a aggravating day at the track.
I should find out today at work if my buddy got a friend to let me stay at his place for the Daytona Speedway Spectacular

If you want to find Echeconnee,it is not hard to find the big red trailor, here is a pic. of it.

When is the next Sunday race Hobby World?

bjessee
02-23-2004, 08:01 AM
looks like there may be a very large
tower in the back of hobbyworld for
cell phones soon, so that may have a very BAD effect on racing.

Rcovalracer- The next Sunday race would be March 7.
Eche- Sorry to hear about your weekend! Bear in mind that the attitude of the shop is not the same as the racers out back. We were looking forward to racing w/all of you,but most of us did not hear what happened until Sunday morning. Needless to say,all of us racers were very shocked & disappointed. (Still are!) Some of us are still planning to pay a visit to Branford to race w/all of you. Could be after the Daytona race. See y'all soon!

Irv, I am sure the racers are not of the same lot as some of the hobby shop people down there but the hobby shop is in front of the track and what they do reflects directly on you guys, weather you know about it or not. I am not picking on you guys, just stating the facts. Look forward to seeing everyone in Daytona!

Tim they are DuBro airplane parts. They're 4-40 threaded brass inserts that come four to a package. Drill the bottom of the body post with a 3/16ths drill as straight as possible and just screw the inserts in. You'll break the bumper or the chassis before another body post pulls loose. Hw carries them in assorted sizes but any hobby shop that carries r/c plane stuff too will have them. Plane parts? That's why my car fly's

wow these people should go to work for NASA. they are obvouisly the smartest people on earth or they just don't care about r/c cars.

I don't know if it will effect the racing???????? but it will be the excuse of everybody that glitches.

I just don't see the logic behind placing a huge metal tower on the property after spending a shat load of money to repave the track!!!

Tim you might be right because these are the people that are to cheap to replace a light bulb.

they just baffle me. spend 10,000 to repave the track then throw down the old pipe when there was a stack of new pipe right there. don't replace the lights when they burn out. hire the rudest people they can to work in the shop so they can chase people of and sell new touring car kits to people without mention the fact that they race out back. have the rude employee go out back to race (rob) a swear like a sailor at the top of his lungs. race on friday night during the winter instead of sundays. Not having the proper parts in stock so people can buy them. there should be at least 3 high end batteries in the case at all times and at least 10 sets of arms for the tc3 and xxx-s. i think a have vented enough for now

BryanW92
02-23-2004, 08:56 PM
I think HW needs to split its R/C and train business into 2 stores. Move all the the R/C stuff to the 103rd location and move everything else to the OP location. Then, they can staff the stores with personnel that are passionate about all the stuff in the store. Most of the attitude problems I've ever encountered are with the guys that are obviously not R/C fanatics and they act like all the R/C customers that are shoving money in their face are just a nuisance that detracts from the business of selling HO railroad cars to old guys that walk too slow and take 10 minutes to fill out a check.

You are definitely right about their stock levels on high-breakage parts like T-plates for the oval cars and A-arms for the touring cars. Now that I'm running TC, I wanted a good supply of spares and had to go online to get a couple sets of front and rear A-arms before next Friday. They need to get decent bearings too!

New92
02-23-2004, 09:22 PM
I think that would be a good idea too. Heck I was up at OP store this morning to get some Black Grease to rebuild my diffs...did they have any? nope.
Diff lube? nope
Turnbuckles? nope
ball cups bigger than the stock ones? nope(and only 1 pack of the stock ones)
Front arms? 1 pack
it is amazing....they have stacks and stacks of T Maxx stuff but barely anything for TCs that THEY own a track for. And some of the stuff they have on the wall is probably older than I am lol.
