shawnleary 01-31-2004, 01:03 PM 33 lapper? Wow, I'd like to see that. I think you'd need a couple more cells David. Nice run last night! Solid driving and setup. HUuuuuge.
I'm going to Branford in March. I hope to take three or four guys with me from Pro-Spec. I'll probably run 4-cell stock as well and see how caps are like. Sound fast. Looking forward to it almost as much as the birds.
Car was ballistic all night , from practice to main I never touched the set-up. Just couldnt see :( Looking for a pair of night vision glasses on E-Bay this afternoon :p
Track is good and super fast
Congrats to David on his win he certainly out-drove me
I dont think 33 is that far out of the equation, there are a couple of real hotshoes I run with that could have a shot at it . ie Donny , Jerry, Cliff
I ran some 7,6s in the main and my last lap was a 7,7 and that was with a broke front body mount Oh well I have beat myself up enough about my driving last night ...As my wife said on the way home " thats racing dear" hate it when they are right
David Butts 01-31-2004, 02:38 PM I was just racing my calculator and figuring a 9.0 first lap and a whole bunch of 7.7's that'll equal a 32 4:07.7 so in order to get a 33 lapper in it'll take someone who has the horsepower to run some 7.5's and 6's consistantly to get it. That my friends although at this point sounds unattainable, I believe it's there. Wade turned some 7.6's and 7.7's and I got abunch of 7.8's with a battery of questionable(actually I know they stink) quality. With the good batts and an equally good motor. Throw in some good warm daytime track conditions and a set of caps and who knows?
Echeconnee 01-31-2004, 05:09 PM Wade, you are just being modest, your shoes are as hot as anyones. Do you think caps will work down there? What foam tire set up did you run?
Cliff They might work during the day but I really dont think so at night ( no heat in the track)
Pinks in the rear....L/R was narrowed RR 2.38 LR 2.30
Purple L/F red R/F no stagger
David Butts 01-31-2004, 06:17 PM Clifford. I dunno what tires Wade used but all I've ever run is a red right front and purple on the other three corners. Thats on an L4O. Some guys use pinks on the rear or a combo of purple rr and pink lr.
I think caps will work in the daytime but with the foams the cars are hooked from the buzzer and launch like a drag car. The time it takes to get the caps hooked may not be made up by their speed.
All the times I've tried them it takes two laps or more before the car settles in. By that time a racer could be a lap or more down. Now if everyone were running caps it'd be a different story but that just aint gonna happen at hw. Some guys cant get the foams to bite consitantly so getting everyone to switch to a new tire would be suicide for the track.
Now when some of the guys start venturing to branford and maybe up to your neck of the woods where caps are mandatory they will have the reason to buy them and once you own them you are more eager to get them to work.
Doug D 01-31-2004, 07:03 PM What tires/inserts are hooking up for touring 19t/stock classes?
Thanks!
David Butts 01-31-2004, 08:29 PM What tires/inserts are hooking up for touring 19t/stock classes?
Thanks!
Hey Doug , welcome to the hobby world thread. We also have a touring car thread in the onroad section titled "touring car action at hobby world" Catchy huh? Most guys are using cs22's premounted with the cooler weather out right now but some brave souls still use the 27's. Hardly anyone mounts their own. good to see you here
bigdon18 02-01-2004, 11:22 PM like to say good luck to all the racers from hobby world that is going to the snowbirds.

rcovalracer 02-03-2004, 11:20 AM Hey David, I got my new body everyone can see today.. :)
When will the next night race be? Thanks ahead of time..

Kevin's RC Oval Site/Branford RC Speedway (http://www.kevinsrc.tk)
Hank80 02-03-2004, 01:15 PM Kevin, Nice looking body. I think they are going to run this Friday, but a few of them will be in Orlando for the Birds. I'll be headed down there Friday also. But may be back to run Sunday afternoon at HW. Not to sure about the schedule just yet.
bigdon18 02-03-2004, 02:19 PM thanks George,
the way it looks i most likely stop by on sunday. you know the shop be a good rest stop on the way back,,, :D . if i make it in time i check yall out racing out back. i think my two boys would like to see that
BIGDON
David Butts 02-03-2004, 03:59 PM Hi Don, George is correct except that the store hours for sunday are 12 to 5 pm.

OOPS! Dave was trying to help you guys out but he missed on the url. The correct one is www.rctech.net (rctech.net)
bigdon18 02-03-2004, 05:04 PM david ,
when you leaving for the birds, and good luck wish i could be there but i got some other things to do,, plus the inlaws have planned for me and the family to go with them to the bud shoot out in daytona,, i think i might just sneak over to the dirt track in barbersville on friday night to get my dirt latemodel fix since my favorite driver Scott Bloomquist is goining to be there.. hmm might have to bring back that scheme again... or something totally differant at daytona race. yeah its on my mind now.. :D
BIGDON
David Butts 02-03-2004, 06:20 PM Don I'm leaving for the bird's thursday morning about 7:00 if my income tax refund comes in(could I be cutting it any closer?)tomorrow. If it does I'll not only be racing I'll be looking for good stuff to buy while I'm there. If not? Uh oh!
I even went so far as to paint up a new body and you can only guess which colors I used. I went a little light on the paint for a weight savings but now my usually bright neon red(pink)looks more like pepto bismol. Blecchh!
The decals and car numbers Bob Rinehart(sp)made up for me are awesome. Anyone needing custom printed multi color decals should really check his stuff out. The only drawback is they appear to be printed on mylar and it doesnt conform to compound curved suraces very well. There'll be no doubt as to who my car belongs to now. Heh heh.
Although the snowbirds are a huge race I'm just going to have some fun and test the waters. I hope I dont have to mess my hobby world setup up too bad.
shawnleary 02-04-2004, 08:32 AM "Although the snowbirds are a huge race I'm just going to have some fun and test the waters. "
David, So you'll still have fun right behind me, eh? :) j/k bro. For 4-cell stock we've got you, me, Jason, Dan, Brooks, Delbert, Tim, probably a few more. I'm sure some of us will run with each other. I'm heading down after work tonight. see ya down there.
Hank80 02-04-2004, 11:44 AM Good luck to all the HW racers down at Snowbirds this. I'll be headed sown that way on Friday afternoon, so guys be ready to run, I'll be taking pic's and making some mpegs of your runs, When I'm near the track.
See eveybody Friday!
David Butts 02-04-2004, 11:12 PM Well it looks as if I am racing at the birds afterall. Got the sun"bird" loaded down with racing stuff and enough clothes for four days and nights of mayhem and unless my ticker stops ticking overnight I'll be leaving for orlando at about 5:00 a.m. Talked to all the guys I have phone numbers for today and even got a chance to hear some of the 6cell open mod oval guys practicing. They sure sound like they're turning up over the cell phone. Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee, Weeeeeeeeeeeeee.
This is going to be fun. I hear the weather this weekend up here is gonna be kinda poo'ey so all of y'all should head on down so we can have a J'ville cheering section. Or atleast somebody to go on a beer run :jest: .
bigdon18 02-04-2004, 11:58 PM david ,,
a beer and all the paragon fumes will make for some fuzzy images of that car going around the track :freak:
good luck ,,
tip ,,,,make your car built proof,, double tape on the battery ,,because they hit hard down there,, and a good foam bumper ,, in case you like me and use it... ,,, go getem killer ,,,,,, some ZZZZZZZs that is because you dont sleep down there.
good luck

shawnleary 02-09-2004, 12:39 PM Thanks George,
What an experience that was. UNBELIEVABLE. I felt the addiction growing stronger every minute I was there. Its amazing to see that many people who love R/C all cooped up in one spot. I might add, it was a very humbling exprience. Everyone from Jax that I was saw was in good spirits and having a blast, that's what its all about. Can't wait for next year. See-ya guys friday.
irvan36mm 02-09-2004, 01:54 PM Shawn- Was it addiction from the adrenaline or Paragon withdrawals? lol
Too bad there wasn't a Pro-Spec style class!! Team Jax/HW would have cleaned up house, then! lol
-George
red201 02-09-2004, 02:38 PM will you guys be racing on sunday in 2 weeks?
shawnleary 02-09-2004, 06:07 PM George, I wish. Even if they did have a Pro-Spec, I think I still would have been spanked hard. Four-cell stock is the most competitive class there with over 100 entries and my initial qual was my best time and I ranked down in the bottom quarter. That carpet demanded knowledge of setup that I had little of. Luckily I had Dan Mclinton, Brooks Dertling, and Jason Lambert to pit with and bug the hell out of. Otherwise I would have been traction rolling through my first two quals. The track got worse as the week went on, making our first qual the only chance at a good time in my opinion. Making getting there on Monday to get dialed in even more important. Next year I will be there tuesday night at the latest, instead of late Wed.
There was plenty of traction, I was trying to give it away. By the end of the week, the track was so slow that the carpet became saturated and started to welt up with the gallons of Paragon and Gripper. One drivers personal transponder logged 46 miles on that track and there were close to 800 drivers. It was AWESOME. I will be there every year from now on as long as I do this stuff. The adrenaline never
pumped so hard when a couple hundred people are watching. What a buzz.
The final race ends up with me and Jason in the same main. Both sporting the exact same bodies with only the number difference. We ended up hitting in turn two when I tried to go under him. Sucked pretty bad since I really really really didn't want that to happen. I really think Jason would have won that main had that not happen. He was hooked up. I ended up missing the win by .4 seconds in my 'H' main. What a trip. Four cell stock is crazy!!!! I missed those two cells like ya'll wouldn't believe.
Who's up for a Branford trip on Feb 22nd? Pro-spec and four cell stock of course. I have room for three drivers, would love to see more come along and run. They have two stock classes, Nastruck and Nascar, both of those run caps. I think we should have enough to run Pro-Spec with foams. I'm not sure if I can justify caps just yet but I really want to check out their track. Let me know guys.
bigdon18 02-09-2004, 06:21 PM shawn
for brandford caps is the way to go.

If we are running HW on that same Sunday, there is an obvious conflict. But since we never know when we are running here at HW, I'm going with the place that announces when they are running in advance enough to plan a road trip. It was cool of them to come out and run here at HW, I think we owe them a trip as well. Plus, you all know you want to show up and break some track records and show'em what its all about.... ;) j/k. Looking forward to it. Mmmmm... caps... why not throw another set of stuff into my box :) Big Don, you up to a road trip to Branford on the 22nd? If there aren't enough of us to run Pro-Spec, i'm in for some stock action.
katf1sh 02-09-2004, 08:24 PM david butts was a big suprise in my books. he did better than i expected him to do. the birds and 4 cell stock is by far the hardest class to do well in. the winner adam brown was running faster than i was in 4 cell 19 turn! lol his plain yellow body is gonna look good at race rock? he he
as always the 1st round is the fastest..the track just goes away after that. over 200,000 laps were laid down on it it in 6 days time! and when the cold front hit the track buckled and made for a wild ride in 19 turn.to get an idea on how bad the track was..place a garden hose under the carpet at the church every 4 feet and try running on it..just a bad deal..i have my fingers crossed for a rebirth of carpet racing in j ville..
David Butts 02-09-2004, 09:36 PM Let me start off with one word, Yawn! . Oh my do I ever expect to sleep tonight. First off, Much kudo's to the jax area regular racers that had the stones to even attempt this past weeks events. Having never been until now myself, I can say that there is no other experience that I have ever had that even comes close to this as far as a hobby is concerned.
Read a name in a magazine? They were there. Want to see whats coming out from most of the major manufacturers in the future of onroad and oval racing either carpet or hard surface? It was more than likely there and being tested by the people I just mentioned. Want to see guys(and some girls too) that can drive circles around your best line and make your chin drop to your knee's? Yep, They too were there.
One thing that was missing and I was totally amazed at was the fact that nearly 800 entries were raced and in an utterly cramped and paragon fumed area, I did not witness one heated argument or exchange of words in my nearly 66 hours over four days at the Ramada and that my friends was astounding.
David Butts 02-09-2004, 09:43 PM [QUOTE=katf1sh]david butts was a big suprise in my books. he did better than i expected him to do. the birds and 4 cell stock is by far the hardest class to do well in.
Well thank you Mr. Katf1sh  . If I had followed my own advice to others and not tried to force a couple of passes in my second qualifier I would have moved up about twenty positions. And yes guys stock is a rough class. In my and Dan's main I think there was only 4 seconds separating the 1st through 10th qualifier. It could have been much uglier but I believe that there was four of us that had run in the same quals and so ended up in the same main so we knew each other by name and talked on the stand and worked together.
Echeconnee 02-09-2004, 11:16 PM I am glad to hear y'all had a good time. We drove down to Jax thursday evening and arrived @ the hobby world track around darkish. You guys have a very nice facility except for the need of a liitle more light, but I'm old and blind. I sure hope the guys @ the hobby shop are not responsible for the promotion of the track, because if they are, you guys are screwed! I have only encountered folkes this careless and rude a very few times in my life and I always say, I will never come back. But in this case, I still would like to get to race with some of you I have met here. See y'all in Branford!
Congrats to all the Jax. racers . Seems like you guys are having a little more respect for 4-cell stock It is a very competitive class :)
David you did GREAT  I have raced the Birds twice. Not only are you fighting the competition but the adreline rush at 4:30 am while running your heat has to be experienced!!
Looking to get some asphalt laps in before Daytona are you guys running on the 22nd Sunday?? Branford is running that Sunday also so I am not sure whats up?? I would like to come to Jax unless a bunch of you are coming to Branford??
Cliff where you going??
Donnie??
Jerry said he wants to try out Jax. not sure when
Donnie_99 02-10-2004, 12:56 AM i dont know what i am gonna do . got a lot going on right now i will go where the crowd is. we havent run here in a month or two so we are thinking of running
Donnie
irvan36mm 02-10-2004, 01:55 AM Shawn- Count me in on 2/23-either HW or Branford! We'll have to find out the HW schedule.
Wade or the other Branford guys- What cap compounds do y'all recommend for the Branford track? Also,is power provided or do we need to bring our own?
Thanks!
-George
rcovalracer 02-10-2004, 05:50 AM Power is provided in the pits, bring a chair if you want to sit :)
Red ,Blues ,Greens and sometimes Gold
Great job to everyone @ the Birds
Sounds like alot of fun down there, and sleepless nights.

irvan36mm 02-10-2004, 08:15 AM Hey,I've got some of those colors! lol Cool! Now I could finally use those capped thingies! I'll have to dig them out tonight & see if they're usable.
Thanks,Kevin!

If you need radials try and have them with you when you come. Scott is having problems with his tire distributor right now and the selection in the shop is slim. He has plenty of other Goodies and at good prices in stock just been having problems with tires. R/C for Less carries a good selection of radials.
If you have never run the track you might want to stick with the softer tires at first. They are less forgiving while you work on the set-up.
Suggest 1 lf--red rf--green net
lr--red narrow rr--green net
Suggest 2 lf--red rf--blue or blue net
lr--red narrow rr--green net
more aggressive on the rear would be
lr--green narrow rr--blue net
more aggressive on the front would be
lf--green rf--blue net
Sizes left, standard, right are avaiable
lf --left or standard rf--standard or right
lr --left rr--right
with the reds on the left you decrease your chances of losing grip coming out of the turn and spinning out the down side is you will scrub some speed in the turn. We have been working with some harder tires trying to cut down on the tire wear especially on the rf, if you get dialed in half-way the blue on the rf will work for you (suggest 2)
Spec I am not sure about you are carrying more weight and harder tires I think is the way to go But I am not sure .
You can run the Quad motor some of us have been trying it. Monster is the motor of choice right now. Geared around 3.00-3.35 depending on the motor
Branford runs 3 heats and a main all races are 5 minutes
you can get there as early as 9:00 and racing starts at 12:30
If we have a bunch from out of town, Scott will set the Qualifiers by everybody running a 2 lap qualifying run for position, this can make you more nervous than the race.We dont always do this
Top 3 in each main receive a winners plate and so does T/Q
Any more ?? please feel free to ask
Wade
irvan36mm 02-10-2004, 10:05 AM Wade- Thanks a bunch! I've printed the above post out so I could have something to go by when we come over!
-George
David Butts 02-10-2004, 01:28 PM Hey guys, Since it has'nt been mentioned I have to ask. Did anyone race friday night or sunday? There were only a few of us out of town so I would assume y'all still raced. I was amazed there were no new posts since before I had left when I returned sunday(monday morning)night.
Waaassssuupp widat? Now I'll have to see how my snowbirds setup works at hw since I changed so much.??? Oh yeah all I changed were the side springs and the tires and my spur size. Woo hoo I'm in! Even my new body came back virtually untouched. It'll be nice to race without the dizzying fum'e de'paragon in the air.
Several of us joked while we were there about the track being so bumpy, That if they'd turm off most of the lights then it'd be just like racing the old surface at night at hw and then we'd kicked some tail.  :D
BullFrog 02-10-2004, 01:46 PM Butts- I'm going to need some of those Butts decals for the rear fenders to your sister car.It will be here in a week.News is coming soon for the re-opening of Tuffys banked oval. Also next month is the region race at RPM (Oval) indoors but on an asphalt type surface...............
shawnleary 02-10-2004, 01:54 PM wade,
would anyone have old caps for sale if the shop hasn't any?
those two lap prequals sound like fun, plus three quals and a main? now thats a day of racing! can't wait. i checked kevin's site and it says they are running on the 22nd, i'm planning on it.
I'm tired of Hobby World not having a schedule set and posted somewhere. They don't even have the points standings at the register anymore, just a list of ROAR'd racers.
irvan36mm 02-10-2004, 02:47 PM Butts- No,we didn't race Friday night or Sunday. The threat of rain took care of Friday. Not sure what the deal was on Sunday, but Tom,Pilgrim & I were there practicing.
-George
katf1sh 02-10-2004, 05:51 PM bill fraden the paved region race will be held outdoors. rpm has no intention of removing the carpet they just paid 3000,00 to lay down, lol.
rcovalracer 02-10-2004, 06:03 PM Hey Shawn, Scott has some SPEC BSR capped tires in stock, along with some of the regulars,RED,GREEN,SILVER. The SPEC tires are a little cheaper than the NETS or RADIALS. I here they are fairly soft.
If anything I am sure one of us should have a set to get you going.
Wouldn't it be quicker to take 10 WEST to interstate 75 SOUTH, towards Lake City, Take the US-90 E exit- exit number 427- Turn LEFT onto US-90 E. Go down about 2 miles until you see the FoodLion Plaza on the left, 7 lights down(I think) and if you make a right at the light that will be 247/Branford Highway, that takes you to Branford. You have the rest of the directions from there.
Hey Wade nice post
Hope to see you guys @ HW for another night race soon...
