Maverick's own Philip Owen has regained the track record this evening. He ran a 35 4:04, consistant lap times of 6.9 to 7.0. The car was hooked up and mov'in on. Could a run of 36 be in the works?

Congrats to Phil and Shannon for their oval A-main wins. Strong work! Malin had a new spec record but had transponder trouble. Would have turned a low 32 possibly 33. c-ya'll on the rug.

Wait there's something new added to the track site today. The Catch fence to make it ROAR legal.
Yeah, the new catch fence gives the track that "WWF Cage Match" feel to it! :D Very appropriate for the kind of close & competitive racing we've been having lately in all of the classes! Now if we could get some SAFER-type soft walls like some NASCAR tracks.............. :drunk: BTW,good to see the Touring class picking up again!

The rain they promised for today never materialized, so there was a good turnout at the track today. There was one puddle in the backstretch early in the day, but we finally got that dried up around 1pm. There were 5 oval cars and 5 or 6 touring cars present today so everyone got to get in a lot of good practice with traffic.

Yea Dave should of stuck around turned a 35 4:01 in the second qual. Don't know if a 36 is possible though would take a little lower lap times all the way down.I'm sure someone will sometime probably when it warms up a little and the track holds more heat in it.

We all know there will be a 36 lap run sooner or later. The record has bumped from 32 to 33 to 34 now 35 laps and thats all in what? 2 months? Besides the driving line in turn three has a big ramp in it and when thats taken out(if it happens)theres an .05 reduction in that off lap.

Its really hard to miss that bump every lap even by the more consistant drivers so I'm predicting a foam tire daytime record of 36 4:04.57 soon and a cap tire record during a warm day of 37 4:02.89, Hows that for going out on a limb?

Theres really no reason to not allow cap tires and classify them as a seperate record because there are those that have and can get them and those that dont want to run them. Its simple just state two different classes but run the cars together. Its looking like there is a whole new can of worms about to open up about the 19t motor rules so where does it stop? I'm all for it as I'd rather just run open mod and be done with it but the 19t restriction sure evens out most of the guys racing.

Now I'd really like to see the 4cell stock class take off as its a more mainstream class and the out of area guys can come race without the headache of not meeting the racing criteria. One thing for certain and thats that racing anything is more fun that not racing at all.

Open mod 6 cell? One car at a time Shawn, one car at a time. How'd you like to turn marshall turns one or three with a whole field of those puppies coming at ya? Wait till I put a hot wind in the car. That was a touring car/road course wind.

Wade, Even though I need some redemption in the 19t class after being slug slow the last sunday race after setting the track record only two weeks before. If I'll make difference in whether or not the class is run I'll run stock with you this sunday.

Couple of us thinking about coming Sunday would like to run stock
how about Ga, Ford Fan ??

Of course we could always run a Quad stocker with the 19t guys ,,,that would be interesting

01-21-2004, 01:29 AM
Hey Wade the quad stockers(Epic Binary) can be run if thats what y'all have. Stock hasnt been run since the last time you came down. It seems everyone wants to run the pro-spec class or 19t. I havent looked at the weather yet but I hope its nice. We all liked to have froze the last sunday race. The sun was out but the wind was cold.

Pro Spec what kind of lap times were those guys running ?? they were faster than the 4-cell I believe ??

No problem running the Quads ?? Sounds good I need to work on the gearing before we go to Daytona

OH WELL just pulled up the weather long range forcast calls for rain on Sunday
Good Night

David Butts
01-21-2004, 01:43 AM
Yeah the pro-spec guys or atleast a couple of them are very fast due to the 6cell spec packs they're running. Joe malin and George Ramos have turned 7.1's and 7.2's respectively but also due to those same spec packs the times fall off real quick. I think theres a reason those spec packs are so cheap. I think the lap times for 4cell stock were in the 7.6 and 7.7 range. If the class were run more often I believe the times would whittle down though. I just looked at sundays forecast. Poo Poo! It looks like a very good(or is that bad?) chance for rain starting saturday night and extending through monday. Of course that could change at any moment.

shawnleary
01-21-2004, 11:41 AM
Spec was faster by a couple laps as I recall. Of course we are talking Malin laps : ) For the rest of us its probably only a lap difference :) At the time we started pro-spec there was a 6-cell stock class that had been run a couple series. 4-cell stock should be around the same speed since on the rug for five minutes, times are almost the same. I think the avg laps are around 75 and I ran 75 with my ol'spec chassis. I would like to see a 4-cell stock class on friday's as well. The more the merrier!

David Butts
01-21-2004, 04:18 PM
The night Joemama, Wade, Shannon and myself ran 4cell stock(we sure need to name these classes, like late model, sportsman and so on) Joe and Wade both turned quick 31 lappers. That was in 4 minutes too, If I'm not mistaken the carpet race this weekend should start the change to 4 minute stock racing too.

wade
01-21-2004, 05:53 PM
sounds good Shawn(fri night 4-cell) Want to run 4-cell on fri 1/30??

Most tracks we are racing on have gone to 5 min. races in stock. more racing=s more fun
nothing like being in the lead at the end of 4 mins. and realize you have another min. to go. Boyyy is that a long minute.
Antbody thought about running 5 minutes??

I'll have two cars to run by the 30th, I'm there! spec and stock sounds like a good night. I finally have two chargers so I won't have to mooch off George anymore when I run two classes. I guess I'll have to buy a quad mag to hang with you guys. That's the new thing right? i won't have one for this Saturday, still using my fishing weight p2k2. one good thing about running spec, I know what motor i will be running in two years, the same one I ran two years ago. :)

so we are on for stock 1/30? We have at least three or four now that will, lets do it.

I will say that as far as the binary stock pro goes I have'nt raced with one yet but it has'nt impressed me on the old audio dyno(my ear)as such that I dont even have it bolted into the TC3 for saturday. I have tried all the different brush and spring combo's I have and it sounds better with the stock pieces.

I did run it in practice at hw with the rubber tires on it but I did'nt have the gearing right or so it seemed but all the other cars that day were either spec or 19t so it was just hard to judge the speed. The next time the car hit the track it had a Malin tuned 19t in it so my memory may be a little fuzzy. zoooooooooooom!

I have two monster pro's and they both turn more rpm's than the quad but I remember from the old days of the yokomo based stocks that rpm does'nt necesarilly mean it's the fastest motor on the track.

Time will tell on the new motors as I'm sure they will be in abundance this coming saturday and in the future.

Butts,
I picked up one of them Binary stocks the outher day, been playin around with it ( hey thats what ya do when you cant get out and race LOL) so far it has less torque, less watts and the efficiancy bites compared to a good Monster. Hopin to try it out at HW not this Friday night but next one I,ll see if it runs well, has lots of RPM might work well if geared right at the big track.Im only running onroad at the carpet so my stepson can race too, doubt the Binary will work well there but I might try it if I can figure out how to turn right first  the Lil 12 th scale is blast but them right turns

Due to a four letter word ( WORK ) dont look like I,ll be racin at the Birds, but I,m goin down for Sat & Sundays races and watch how them fast guys do it!

Lee- My mom always told me "Never buy the first batch of anything new that comes out. Wait a couple of months for the mfgr's to get the bugs worked out!" (Or,"Let the other people buy up the first batch! Then, you'll be in line for the new & improved batch!) So far, she's been right!!! That theory worked w/the very first batch of 3000's,GP 33K's,C2 motors, etc. They all weren't that great until later batches were released.
