I agree with a break out class. Make it 28 laps for oval, run what you want. Any motor, battery chassis etc. But once you can turn 28 laps, its time to move up. What do you guys think? 28 laps isn't easy but not that hard that it would take a year to get to.

I think that the biggest thing that will help the racing grow is something for the begginers. right now there is nothing these new guys come out get there asses handed to them and they don't come back. is it really far for a new guy to run against me bear earl rook brad john and todd (when I show up) malone. on the oval side the spec class isn't for begginers anymore.

Hell you guys hand me my arse everytime I race you guys and I'm certainly not a new guy. But your point is well made and taken. p.s. those mounts look like someone needs to buy a pair.

move up to what? that is the problem there is nothing to move up to. you said it yourself that the jump from spec to 19t is a big one. if you are suggesting that the new guys in pro spec run in a class of there own till they do 28 laps that is cool but that class isn't drawing the numbers to do that. it would be really unfair to the new guys i have only seen like 3 new drivers out there.

I would like to ask everybody this question what can we do to draw more people?

the first thing that needs to be done is drivers yelling on the stand even if it is to a turn marshall to pull the car.
the next is the foul mouths in the pits. I understand that this isn't the church but atleast keep your voice down. to the people stopping buy to check it out even if they see just one guy doing it, it makes us look like a bunch of rednecks.

I have to agree, I mention on a thread I started several months back about having a beginners class at H.W. Now it sounds like a good time to start one for both touring and oval. Does anyone see a problem with it?

Dave P- You're right! The Spec class today isn't "your lil' brother's Spec" anymore! With more tracks running a similar Spec formula as ours, the word "Spec" doesn't mean "cheap" or "POS" anymore. Even ARCOR is having a Spec Nationals this year in TN? Yes,a beginners "run what you brung" class needs to be done for both on-road & oval. Even if there's 2 people in each class, let 'em run! Heck let's not even call them "Beginners",let's call them "rookies" or "novices". (yellow tape on bumper optional) Nothing more discouraging for a twenty-something year old guy or gal to be called a "beginner"!

4 cell stock is a great place to start..even if you have pro stock and sportsman stock...the cars need to go slow to go fast!

there is no problem with starting any class? hell if we wanted to run touring cars with bananas on the roof John hart will run it if there is the people. here lies the problem we don't get alot of new people coming out at once. if you get 6 touring cars showing up and only 1 of them is a begginer then what? make the new guy run by himself?

New92

How many people do you need to make a class? 3?

What motor do we need for Stock class touring? Any 27 turn or does it have to be the Monster?

I was talking to Chris tonight while going over set ups on both cars and he was saying that his brother is probably going to start running 19t instead of stock but that Chris was going to run stock with Matt and I for awhile then he wanted to move up to 19t....I want to go 19t eventually too, but I need to get more exp...I am really hoping to start racing in about 3 to 4 weeks. The other buddy of mine that just bought his TC3 was asking about the motor questions.

davepull

yes 3 to make a class. to run stock it just has to be a 27 turn stock the monster is the prefered motor.

If is a novice class in either type of racing (oval/touring) why should we care what motors they are using.Let them race- they'll find out the motor isn't the answer. When they get beat by a less powerful motor they can't say it was the motor. The drivers using the stock motors should beat them everytime.
Even if there isn't enough racers for novice put them in the other class and score them seperate.

davepull

good point bill but it is better to make them all run the ram type (stock or spec) to avoid any issues. everybody is missing the point that I am making is WE DON'T HAVE THE PEOPLE TO START NEW CLASSES.

New92
01-07-2004, 11:32 AM
We will as soon as Matt gets his car in and builds it though. Then I will have 4 people up there....that will be good practice to for us so we can join you guys quicker.
I am thinking about 2 weeks for us to run our own class (Matt and I expect to hit each other, lol, but we dont want to mess you guys up)
Then in awhile will be able to either run stock with whoever or 19T with you.

Dave, the language is what makes us look redneck? I thought it was the way we smelled ;) lol

There needs to be a class for newbies so that they can learn to drive and not get discouraged when all of us run them over. A seperate class which has no hardware requirements, just number of laps to break out. If there isn't enough people to run the begginer class then its their choice to run with everyone else. Many nights it was just me and Jason, and jason had to give his back up car to Tom in order to have three people. Do what ya gotta do. Any new person who reads this and wants to run in a beginner class, come to Hobby World this Friday or any Friday with your gear. Even if its an Evader st, run it!

Getting more people to show is huge.

1.) Banner out front tied between the posts of the Hobby World sign.
"RACING GOING ON OUT BACK". The sign in front of the Argyle Church is the ONLY reason I even remembered that FCCR was racing that first day. I drove home, got my stuff and headed over.

2.) If no power out there at the sign, we need to get it out there in order to flash a strobe light at the banner or some kind of lighting so people will notice it at night. This alone would increase foot traffic.

3.) Advertisments in the Sunday paper. Hobby World has ads, i've seen them posted at the register. Why not throw some small note on them, even in small print.

4.) A dedicated Hobby World website for the racing, with all the classes, results, rules, SCHEDULE, etc.

5.) Dedicated teching. The fact that no one techs and not a single motor has ever been taken apart since I've been there, can lead some to believe that people could cheat. Even if they aren't. Teching, even if it is randomly done, perhaps one person a night gets teched just for the sake of it, would make for a seemingly fairer event and would keep honest people honest.

6.) Free race for first timers. Make that part of the Ad or on the banner out front.

7.) One free raffle ticket with entry.

8.) Two free raffle tickets if you run Pro-Spec ;)

9.) Have fun and talk junk all we want, but keep it as productive as possible.

New92
01-07-2004, 12:19 PM
We have a club meeting this Friday so we wont be able to be out there early enough to race, but we are going to by to meet some of you and watch. Now, next Friday...that seems like a definite possibility.

I for one dont really care if I win or lose, I just want to have fun. But I think SOME kind of prize...raffle tickets...gift certificates....something....that would increase participation too.

The obvious problem is "promotion". Right now, there's only "word-of-mouth" promo, but there needs to be more (both at HW & FCCR). Here's my .02 to Dave's question:

10) TV TIME: Have ya ever watched the sports on the Fri night news? They always cover the local high school sports scene (complete w/scores),especially football. Any one of us could try & contact any of the TV stations in Jax and see if they would be interested in doing a story on the HW (and FCCR) races. Even if they just announce the winners of the races at the end of the segment for 2-5 seconds. The stations have been covering the NASCAR Daytona testing this week- now would be a good time to hit them (stations) up for some coverage. Hmmmmm?

11) MAGNET/PLAQUE (or similar) FOR "ROOKIE" WINNERS: I think someone mentioned it before (P?). A very good idea!

New92: If ya can't make it out this Friday, try & stop by this Sunday during our bi-weekly Sunday races!
-George

Comment: I've done that before-Sign out front. As for the TV - I've done that before. After football is over it is easier to get them out.The ads in the paper that's been mentioned before. Only one problem the people that own HW need to do it- it's their track.

Can I say something? Ha I'm going too anyway. Everybody has put some good thoughts on here and a question comes to mind that Shawn touched on. Where is it written that all the cars have to be onroad or oval cars?

Some of the new people that show up to watch were given or bought ready to run off road style trucks and or cars. They should be allowed to run in a run what ya brung class. I guarantee some of those people would be quick to buy a more competitve car after their first taste of blood, uh I mean competition. There would be no detriment except for another class to be run which means maybe no break between rounds or mains. Their tires would do absolutely no damage to the track or walls(well maybe the walls)and it may be our main overlooked source of potential racers. Hmmm portable jumps?

A sign in the store or even video taped races showing in there would also go along way.

Also the one raffle ticket with your entry fee sounds like a winner to me but I have no say.

Now I'm gonna say a four letter word that some of you may not want to hear but in order to get some of the afforementioned activities like teching, newbie help, and helping with the running of the races(those guys do a real good job now)such as promoting and calling in results, covered it needs to be mentioned. Cover your eyes if you're easily offended. -------------------------------------------------CLUB.

Its just a thought but if the track or the powers that be are thinking of getting any races other than just the local stuff thats going on now there will need to be a sizeable group of people who are willing to help with all this stuff. Just a thought guys but I did put on my flame suit just incase.

Ouch! Shawn, that really hurts. LOL! Seriously though, a run what you brung class would work well. I have two kids who would love to race, but are terrified to get on the track and mess someone else up. A class of "starters" like them would not scare them.

I was curious...motor started acting up and took it apart....decided to change brushes and new springs. friend of mine has same problem both of us are using Revenge of the Monster. Anyone else had any problems with them? He just changed brushes this past weekend and started acting up tonight.

Comm didnt look real bad...little dark but I was told it wasnt that bad. I am thinking about ordering a lathe next week, (Christmas holidays stink for educators lol...month between paychecks)

What about a comm stick? would it be better to get the stick now to clean it up then look into another motor or go for the lathe and save the money in the long run?

Thanks guys
