View Full Version : Hobby World Paved Oval Official Thread. It's Back
irvan36mm 09-07-2003, 10:15 PM hey all.... well just a lil inside iggy, hw racing is startring to get another look.we all know it needs new lighting, repaved, another announcer.......lol
why don't we just all vote to what goes on(instead of friday night racing, sat. or sun. afternoon)just an idea.. whos going to have a problem seeing there car in turn 3 then...but i did hear of a possibility of the track getting leveled and surfaced...all i can say is continue to support ur local hobby shops...one day we might not have ap lace to run at all!........see ya friday night!
Speedy-
When I first came out to race @ HW around 4 yrs ago, there were a couple of people that used to announce the races. They even teched the cars, too! The deal was that they didn't race at all, just liked to help out by running the races. It would be great to have another person that didn't race at all to do the same for us now. I've been calling the races (19-turn oval & touring) lately because John's been racing back-to-back in those 2 classes. Yes,I know I totally suck at calling the races! lol
-George
shawnleary 09-07-2003, 11:31 PM MC George does a great job! I wouldn't mind giving it a try sometime if you or John needed me to. ;)
Now beating the rest of us for the last two nights, that's another story, What classes you are running on the carpet?
A repaving at HW would be really nice. There is talk of a Florida point series next year, repaving and a new paint job would really spruce it up and might play into their decision of what tracks to run the series at.
A few grand would give that place a nice face-lift and maybe some more bank in the turns. We can only hope.

Hey George I think you do a pretty good job on the mike. For those who have never tried it, it's more daunting than you might imagine. Trying to keep the racers and spectators(when there are some)informed is not as easy as it may seem. And for those that have a problem communicating without cussing. Forget it! Hey did you see that bleeping pass dudes! ???? I think everyone should try it sometimes. It could be funny. Uh the blue car just passed the red car uhhhh no it was the green car oh wait a minute.

Hey smokeyfttc3 ? You bring up an interesting point. Allthough there are those that couldnt race on sunday and those that would rather sit on the couch and watch the big cars race not to mention football. Sundays used to be pretty big at the old raceway. Besides the fact that you can see the cars in turn three, you can also see them in the pits, in tech and anywhere else they may be too. In the old days(I know I'm living in the past)Fridays were customarily oval races and sundays were offroad but every once in a while there were oval races and even then it was a nice change.
The added benefit of sunday racing is that the store is open which brings in a steady stream of spectators and future racers that otherwise dont even know the track is back there. Also how many times has someone broken a part on friday night and their racing was done because they couldnt get into the store to buy the part?
Its feasible now to run everything on sundays starting at 12:00 or 1:00 and be done by 5:00. Just think how bright my cars'll be during the day. Hobby world could start selling sunglasses too! :dude:
David Butts 09-08-2003, 04:36 AM Oops! please disregard that "dont" and read it as "would'nt" instead. Man I thought that fourth grade education would've gotten me further than it has.

davepull 09-08-2003, 05:33 PM SpeedytC3 I have know problem seeing my car on any part of the track at HW. I think That John Hart does a good job running the show. If you think itis bad why don't you tells us your real name so we can put you on the mic.
Dave
DEO RACING 09-08-2003, 06:08 PM You are exactly right Dave, and besides if it wasnt for John Hart bringing his lap counting system who would!!!!!
speedyfttc3... err um Dave K....
The prob with Saturday or Sunday racing is as follows in order.
1.. lap counting system
2.. working weakends
3.. Tuffys
4.. FCCR
5.. K-mart
YOu wont loose to many because of the Tuffy/FCCR/K-mart race more then the lack of lap counting system.
Unless you can get John to change to a Saturday... But dont hold your breath. I know he has a few irons in the fire on weakends... but he might change.
The sad and rather simple prob with Jaxs right now is the lack of new blood. Diehards and a few faces now and again show... But thats seems to top out to a point.
To be honest, trying to get new blood into the hobby should be the goal behind the saturday/sunday race rather then moving Friday nights. These guy have been running Fridays for how many years now? I dont think you could get them to change at this point without a uphill fight.
bigdon18 09-08-2003, 08:09 PM My hats off to John for running the races at hobby world,,, keep up the good work bro.
Dave butts ,, i remember the sunday races,, not many oval guys showed up when it was dirt and then after it got paved and bill fraden was running race out back on sundays twice a month and then only a hand full of touring guys came out then that playout but that has been awhile. . i think everyone is more into football and nascar on sunday. plus your paint jobs you need sunglass at night  . but if yall did run on sundays it would make it a little easier on some that come from Ga. to run. i think it would be good during the winter when its really cold,, cold night at hobby world  i can remember a few.
Hobby world is a good track and good things have to come from it..
later

shawnleary 09-09-2003, 12:40 PM One thing is for sure, John is dedicated. When CPT was open he was still there every Friday. Now the occasional belching and Georgian squeels over the mic :p it just wouldn't be the same without them. Keep up to good work John! Friday nights are the best for me. Gets my fix out of the way and still can have the rest of the weekend.

David Butts 09-13-2003, 01:30 AM Lee, Waht was the young guys name who was pitted next to you tonight? He left his spec car and radio and I have it. I'll drop it off at the store tommorow but didnt he say he'd be at the hooters race?
Fl Flash 09-13-2003, 08:42 AM David,
Young mans name is David Echols, he leaves something behind every time! But a whole car and Radio? He told me he was going to the Hooters race to run touring.
Later, Lee H.
shawnleary 09-13-2003, 12:40 PM Anyone hear when points will start up?
David Butts 09-13-2003, 09:30 PM Hey guys I raced my antique legends car lastnight with its original tires on it and I had a blast. 62 laps on any track is fun but with that little track and 6 or 7 other cars it was unreal.
Got lucky and won a full set of new tires in the raffle too. I broke in the main(leftside hub got pushed in and locked up the axle) but overall I had a good(great)time. Whats racin without a little rubbin anyway?
Tom Pedano? What a rocket that banana car was, his brother Stephen is no slouch either. The other old guy in there was none other than Tom Marlowe. I seriuosly believe that on a good clean run Tom P, could probably turn 67 laps but he only(?) managed 64 in the main.. Oh yeah, those original tires? TOAST! They're officially going to the big landfill in the sky after lastnight.
Jeremy's daughter ran some pretty good laps too. Its good to see the younger people having fun racing and maybe the little oval should be considered for the beginers class or classes. Seeing the car is definately not a problem. I'm ramblin aaaaagggaaaaiiinnnnn. Se ya at the track and unlike me "keep it off the pipes"
David Butts 09-13-2003, 09:36 PM David,

Thanks for the info Lee. I took David his car and radio at hooters. I couldnt help myself. I noticed the diff was all wrong and I just happened to have the right parts in my box so somehow the car got massaged before I took it back to him. Talk about a wiring nightmare. I didnt dare touch that as I didnt want to be to blame for the fire thats going to engulf that car someday. Atleast the diff will still work though
Fl Flash 09-13-2003, 10:21 PM Thanks David Butts,
Yeah David E. is a good kid, appreciate you looking out for him he needs a little guidance and help with some things, I am sure you noticed that.I gathered up some needed items for his spec ride today hope he will let me repair some of the wiring issues! BTW is there a fire extingisher at the HW  Wanted to go to Hooters tonight but had a sick dog emergency, did you run any?
Lee Helander
David Butts 09-14-2003, 10:41 AM Hey Lee, no I didnt stick around for any racing at Hooters. Just took David his car and left. Fire extinguisher? See subject line above :jest: That poor car Has the switch wires twisted together, Automotive style crimp connectors for the motor that arent crimped and no capacitors at all on the motor.
Yeah I looked the car over(it's an affliction)but stopped with the diff work. I remember being young once and he's got alot to learn. It looks as if he's trying to emulate pro setups without knowing what they are. It would not suprise me to see the diff put right back to where it was since I gave him his old parts back and he questioned why I changed it since he had read the directions for his pro diff parts. Problem is "Pro" diff parts are only useable when you have a fully ballraced diff and hub combination and his being a spec car has only bushings.
He may be the next Brian Kinwald as a driver but you have to have a runable car first  . Oops I tightened the damper post too as it was almost falling off the car.
shawnleary 09-14-2003, 10:53 PM I agree with you Dave, running around the small track should be required for at least a few of the races in the beginner class. I've learned a lot running on the carpet on the small oval. I think its a lot more fun turning 70 laps rather than 29. plus adding another minute to the race. More action, more driving. More laps to make up for my mistakes too :)
shawnleary 09-14-2003, 11:02 PM I dreaded using those three washers that came with the Trinity Spec car kit. I never could seem to get them right. I bought the replacement kit, rubber coned washer and other aluminum coned washer thingy. Never had to worry about it since. He had rear bushings? I thought it came with rear bearings?
Anyone know if points racing started next Friday?

Shawn-
I don't even use those items anymore! I use a small blue washer w/small bearings & the 2 thick washers that come w/them (aka-thrust bearing). It saves the outer bearing when bashing up the RR wheel by putting the pressure/load on the outside of the bearing (or the whole bearing) instead of digging into the dust shield itself like the cones do. Also promotes diff smoothness as the outer bearing doesn't get torn up as much from crashes! Spec cars come box-stock w/ bushings all around, but can be replaced w/ bearings-per S/S rules.

David Butts 09-19-2003, 09:02 PM I got me an L4O doo dah, doo dah, I got me an L4O all the doo dah day. Cant say for sure it'll see the track before the new asphalt(not just resealing)does but I have one all the same. Its been years since I raced oval on the old girl but I cant wait. :D Oh my, What to race? touring, legends or oval? I bet one car will have four cells and the other six. One car will have to become a dust magnet for the time being.

Yes sir that legends class is a blast to race in but that bannanaramamobille of Tom Pedano's is gonna be hard to catch. He apparently went 67 laps friday night and said with a cleaner(like thats gonna happen)run he could've ran 69. Yikes! I had two fairly clean runs week before last and only could muster 62's. Look out for his brother Stephen, I hear he's gonna run pro-spec some now too. Oh my the competition is getting good around these parts now.
