You know whats missing at hobby world? A flag pole and an american flag. We also need to get the old tradition of a drivers meeting before qualifying starts and a real good thing would be the addition of the national anthem before the nights activities. I'm sure there would be no arguments on that. If it's good for full size racing it's good for us right.

Don-
You're a sick man! As far as I know,N Florida is actually S Georgia! So I guess that means you & the rest of the GA gang count, too! The real FL doesn't start until you get to Daytona/Orlando.
BTW-the small oval is up & running. There's already been Spec cars running on it & everyone's excited! Kudos to me (ha!),Joespec & Lee for help & testing and to Greg M for the use of his DeWalt (shameless plug) collection of fine cordless tools! Anyone w/a Legends or a Street Spec car that wants some short track action-bring it on Friday night!!!
David-
The flag is an excellent idea! Get patriotic or get out!

For anybody out there who loves R/C racing,.....you are always welcome here at HW! I got the chance to meet Big Don,and he is good people! It's real good to see David Butts back again too! One thing can be said about HW,....it might be bumpy, but it's bumpy for all,it's really about the racing, and the people you race with! Bring out the Legends cars!! Anyone with an old spec car,or any older car without shocks, bring them too,we are working on a 6-cell short-track class as well. Lot's of fun to be had here at HW. We could probably get a couple of the guys in the store to do the flyover, and the flag would be good too! ( but I ain't singing ) lol!

Yo dudes! (hows that for trying to sound young?)I stopped by hw again today after work. Oh man this is turning into an obsession! You guys did a good thing with the addition of the little oval. It will make for some good tight racing with the legends and spec cars too! It opened up some possibilities for the road course also after the current points series is over or is it already?

I took the liberty of starting a thread on the onroad section entitled, are you ready for this? "Touring car action at hobby world,Jax FL." Man was that original or what? I also brought up the idea to all of the owners, Rita, Don and Greg of the flagpole(s) and the national anthem and they all sounded positive. I think with a little work and some good turnouts we can get almost anyting done.

Like big Don said, at one time there were pits on the third and fourth turns that wrapped almost completely around that end of the track that were built by clubmembers and do you know that that club J.A.R.C.A.R (Jacksonville area radio control auto racers)is still incorporated? Hmm? Lets see what the future holds for everyone. :D

Well,....on the track work,we did what we could. A commercial pipe heater would've been good that day, then it would've looked prettier, but it is functional none the less. I could add just one pipe to the road course, and it would be better, with more of the racing surface used. The Bullring is always a question, for 5' more length would really get the cars flying to the corners, but we added 3' before all the screws were sunk, and feedback from a few drivers said that it was good! If we seriously tried to keep an exact distance from the outside wall, like 12' all the way around, that would put the speedway cars in the banking for sure in the corners, and give alot more room for the road-course,and perhaps another 5' for the bullring, all in all,it's good to see the small oval back,we should have 3 to 4 short-track cars there this Friday night,as well as hopefully many Legends cars! I'm pondering an extra class myself,.....could be another spec for both the speedway, and the bullring,or perhaps a Legends,.....either would be alot of fun! One thing for sure,....F1 Flash took to the bullring like karp in a new fishbowl! He is going to be tough to beat, for he got the groove in like,.....1 battery pack! Metro,.....you the man! ( cordless power tools )

dave i'm going to butt in here (no punn intended) lol i suggest you buy a maverick car or the L4O car new..build it slowly and you will have a car you can get parts for and set-up help with at the track. the most important thing is getting help with the car you own. phil and 4 or 5 other guys up there run the maverick car..this is going to help you get up to speed faster. i suggest buying the kit that jake offers with almost everything you need to build a complete car with. add electronics and a phil owen set-up and you will be in the groove.

i would tell you to buy an adx car but a new one is on the way and i only race j ville carpet so i would be no help to you at all. look dan is fast with a maverick car so i guess anyone who holds a straight line can wheel one! lol tinman in tampa uses one outdoors and is awesome..inside on the rug you will be chasing a adx but outside you have a good shot at us! he he he i suggest a new car because you will have something to build upon. dont go buy a outdated oval car that parts will be hard to buy in the future and set-up help will be hard to find. if you buy quality now you if you ever decide can sell it back for most of what you put into it. i suggest the following..LRP pulsar charger or turbo anything..maverick or associated L4O and (2) 4 cell smc packs
save up till you can put something like this together and you will save money and alot of frustration later. and for now i will do this..i am retiring from 4 cell stock in j ville..if you would like for a few months i'll bring my stock car complete less batteries and motor and you can run it in stock. you provide motor and battery..if you cant use my KO radio than we can put your receiver in the car.. this way you will have a proven car to play with on the rug and save your money for the good stuff ...maybe set a goal like christmas for your oval ride? just a thought from someone who has done stuff half a$$ and kicked himself in the head over and over. wsell@cfl.rr.com any questions bro...i like to see anyone excited about oval raing and someone who is bringing in new blood or old..cya at the track bill

buying a new oval car now days is like buying a icecream cone. Pick a flavor and be happy.
they all have about the same features. your a good driver and you will do well in any sled you pick to run. i would keep in mind get one you can get parts for,, i have went with a maverick because i can get parts , and alot more when i deal with jake performance with just a email or phone call.

David,....my last"tech" car was a hyperdrive, and it was great into the corner! That's alot, for when you beat someone into the corner, you got the better line coming out. Food for thought. Jason has got that car now,so everyone in Pro-spec has got to deal with him, that is,....if he doesn't mess with it too much! You know how it is,.....hand someone a car ready and dialed in,and what do they do? You can lead a horse to water,but.......

I've almost wore a hole through the shrinkwrap on one of the L4O kits at hobby world. You know after all these years I still have a personal layaway box there and one of those kits will fit in it nicely. Hey Katfish, I caught that pun. I am still amazed that after my long hiatus from racing I have been offered so many cars and parts and pieces and stuff. Since I started back into it I have yet to race with a battery pack or motor that actually belonged to me at the time. Well maybe a couple of the legends car batteries are mine, Now! And the two 3300 6 cell packs I picked up from Dave P actually belong to me now too, But they didnt when I used them. I genuinely appreciate all the offers and I'm flattered that they still continue to come in almost daily.

Theres good People in this hobby and I'm glad I'm back in it but it'll take time before I can get all my ducks in a row to be competitive in any one class. And one thing I've learned in all the years I raced was its easier to get good at one class at a time than to take on all classes at once. Dont worry oval racers I'm coming back just not quite yet. I'll even break out my customized pcm just for the oval racing. Its had the right side return springs taken out for weight purposes because you just dont need'em on the oval do ya? :jest:

David,.....birds of a feather! You are good people too! This is what we need now, more good folks to get involved in one of the best hobbies on the planet! I'm glad to see the racers from other venues here at HW,and I'll keep working on the guys in the touring class to get an oval car too! That bullring is looking good, and those 4wd guys like to turn alot,so..... You got alot of 1400scr's,and 1700's too,....those would work well in a cheap chassis, with an old stock motor,on worn out tires,.....win by a foot, not by a lap

David, Good luck in your purchase. I went with an old L3 to get my feet wet. I got it for 50 bucks without shocks. It probably isn't even close in performance, but I didn't want to spend the big bucks yet since I've only been doing this a year and wasn't sure if I would make much of a difference with my current driving skills. I probably wouldn't be able to tell the difference at HW. Good luck man

Lee-
Hope all's well w/ the family! OK,about 5 or 6(?) Legends came out & raced on the short oval. They could have used 1 or 2 more! It looked like they were having the time of their lives on the short bullring.
Pro-Spec seems to be getting bigger & bigger?? Didn't have enough cars for the "Short-track Spec" class. Raced 2 heats & Joe Malin had the win in the mains (combined both heats for an 8 car shootout!) I came in second place w/a new Bill Elliott body. Again, everybody is also having fun in this class too! An overall great night of racing!!!

Lee I posted race summary and times are on the website. Joe Malin dropped 31 laps on us all. The Main was the largest and cleanest I've been in so far. If we get a few more drivers we will have two mains for sure. Hope everything is well with the fam. Talk at ya later.

Yes,.....that 31 lap run was good! But was it legal? With a couple of weeks before the start of the new series, there might be alot of things running on the track that won't pass tech, when we start the new points series. So to review,....in Pro-spec,...we have any chassis, with spec batteries ( 6-cell ) spec motor with "S" brushes, and black or silver springs, and spec tires, with wings. right? 43 ounces minimum. Any connector for battery, but no hard-wiring.

Outlaw nights are fun, but just that, fun. Now this next points series is going to be very very interesting. I think breaking 30 laps for a couple guys will be possible each night, but will probably be the limit. We are going to have a lot of drivers so who ever can maintain a finish in the top few spots could have a chance to take it all. Its gonna be TIGHT! Everyone is bringing good game and I can feel the competition every time I walk up to the drivers stand. I have yet to be apart of Spec action of this magnitude. I'm so psyched up for this next series that it isn't even funny. I really don't care how it all ends up (yea right!), as long as I can bring my best driving every Friday. I know I will miss two races in October along with Jason. We can only hope it rains out for one or both of those nights, sorry guys : ) I'm going to be doing major rain dances and having voodoo incantations and baby goats sacrificied in order to achieve rain-outs those two nights. :drunk:
Joe M., are you running Pro-Spec? Legends, 4-cell, and Pro-Spec would leave a full plate, although if there is anyone who could run all three, it would be him.
Good to see the cheap class getting popular again. Go Spec!

F1 Flash,....the bullring turned out to be a good thing,we didn't have any short-track cars last Friday night, but we did have several Legends cars, and I'm going to build one for that class as well. Over the last few years,it has been hard to get a short-track class going,as the speedway is a mistress that few can avoid! The lure of going faster is just too strong for most, even though both you and I know that short-track racing will make you a better driver, and ours most closely matches the carpet oval,so this would be of benefit to more sooner. Oh well, the Legends cars showed up,and that in it's essence was the reason for the replacement for this track piece anyway.Once everyone gets their racing program together for the next points series, perhaps we should see some fender-rubbing bullring action! If you have one built, then I can always run mine too,and that's 2 cars,we need one more.....

joespec
09-01-2003, 06:09 AM
Shawn, the Pro-spec class this series is going to be a blast for sure! And I hope that we attract even more to the class! This is a good combination,.....good chassis, with the affordable spec running gear,ie...motors,batteries,and tires. The reason for the close racing has to do with the fact that we all are using the same stuff,we all have the same gas tank,as it were. The other important reason is that all who race with us have become better drivers! So many close races before, with the old chassis, have brought us to this point now,so just wait until the whole race is run with everyone on the same lap! I'm glad to see that we have some from the 4-cell mod ranks. The reasons are varied, but the fact is that some want close competition more than they want to go out and try to de-throne the king.A class where everyone has a decent chance to win is what it's all about,...a class for the rest of us.
