davepull 07-12-2003, 03:39 PM shawn sorry about the rain. I am in Monson right now it rained like hell last night here too
shawnleary 07-12-2003, 07:12 PM well at least you didn't miss any points :)
Shawn
Would it not be a good idea to not run points the night before the carpet race? If there is going to be a hassle trying to run 2 diffrent point series and you miss one for the other.. kinda takes away from even trying to run in any series?
Some people could use a break from week after week of racing just to make a series. I know it sux when i cant make it when Im doing setup friday night for Saturdays race. im sure theres a few other who feel the same way.
When FCCR goes to 2 weeks a month..... whats people going to do? Why not rotate the series from one weekend to another between the 2 venues? This will do 2 things..
1. Keep the series alive at HW WITHOUT loosing it all together.
2. Give people a chance to run rug before big events so the JAX, Daytona, and surrounding area will look that much better on rug at The "Birds.
We are all for promoting and making the R/C community grow in N.Florida. Something to think about for the 6 days befor next Friday!!

I kinda suggested that earlier this post but you may run into a problem w/that..
-People (locals or otherwise) that are in the hunt for points that can make it to HW on Friday nights on week, but can't make FCCR races on the next Saturday.
Maybe the solution to that would be to score the combined FCCR/HW points separate from the rest of the entrants? This would involve separate trophies just for the Jax racers. Everyone else (locals & out-of-townies) could be counted into the FCCR points deal. With that deal, there's a chance that someone can walk away with 2 trophies from both series!
I can see that this will take some serious planning! :drunk:
-George
shawnleary 07-13-2003, 12:46 PM I suggested we do that back in May.
http://www.hobbytalk.com/bbs1/showthread.php?t=31483&page=43&pp=20
It would be a good idea not to run points at HW the night before, but when it goes to twice a month it would be tough to do. With rain and holidays, HW would hold up the carpet end of that point series. More than likely we would be rained out 1/3 of the time and we would finish the carpet part of the series before the HW. Hmmm. Complicated. Maybe we could have three dropped races so that if we miss too many at HW it wouldn't hinder us from finishing the combined series. It would be cool to bring points racing to all three venues so that they can share the wealth. Two nights at HW , Two at Carpet, Two at Tuffys. That would be awesome. 6 points races a month. Ooooo, that is perfect for me. Its not twice a week, it isn't once a week, its juusst right  Is it possible to run Tuffy's after the carpet is over? Hmmm.. We could do all three one weekend a month, it would be a multiple track enduro 800 lap weekend!
If we do go to the same Spec rules on carpet, I would be up for moving points back and forth from each track, otherwise it is a mute point since we will be running different cars all together.
I will probably only devote one day a week maybe two some weeks, to my addiction. Otherwise it could be ugly on the home front :) And right now I will most likely be at every Carpet race and less likely to be at HW the night before. We'll see though. Who knows, maybe my girl will leave me and I can run all three venues every weekend! I can only hope : )

More like What is BRAKE! :D
Shawn-
I think we should upgrade to Pro-Spec rules on the carpet. Just to keep in-line w/ the current trend in other parts of the country. We just need to let John Meadows know before we do it. Maybe start in Sept when it goes 2X a month??

joespec 07-14-2003, 05:23 PM Hi Rob! Good to see you on the site!
joespec 07-14-2003, 05:36 PM I'm sure that there is a way to work out the logistics of running points at several locations, But I guess it would start with the race directors of each venue, getting together, and planning! How about one series, that would last the whole year? If everyone paid one extra dollar, just one, each time they raced, this one dollar would go to huge trophies at the end of the year, the points would be a total of the races held at all venues,in the various classes that run,but the classes would have to run at all venues! ie......4wd at all tracks, including tuffy's! 4-cell mod,Pro-spec. There would have to be some consideration for the gas classes that run at K-mart,perhaps they would just run at K-mart,but they would have to have trophies too,at the end of the season. A whole season of racing would give racers plenty of opportunity to make as many races as they can,but give the freedom to miss a few,and still be in the hunt for a trophy.Perhaps awards for first through fifth place, with a separate trophy for those who TQ the most in the season. There has been so much talk about not racing for points before this or that,so if there are several venues to race at,then there should be incorporation of all in the series, for all. Just a thought?...........Oh yeah,.....30+ racers at each race, all year, should provide enough money for all the trophies at the end of the season, and a cook-out to celebrate a good racing year! If you all are going to yak about a series, then let's have a series!!
rc1man4 07-14-2003, 08:36 PM George i don't need no stinking brakes i have a wall to do the same thing as the brake
ROB:mad:
shawnleary 07-14-2003, 09:43 PM I don't mind changing to any chassis on the carpet, but make sure that everyone who is currently running spec on the carpet really wants to change. They may not. The other option is to have a seperate class, but John said the schedule is pretty tight. Either way I'm cool with it.
Shawn
shawnleary 07-15-2003, 12:02 AM Joespec,
That's a great idea, we should do something like that. Bringing all the venues together is the perfect solution. I think once Carpet goes to twice and month and Tuffy's is more established, a multiple venue points series could be plausible. This is way in the future of course. Let do it!! I think it would be a blast.

Tell your bride I missed her on my way to get my haircut! :( The roads looked like Bristol on a good day!

shawnleary 07-16-2003, 05:30 PM Jay posted on the Carpet thread that the Carpet will be open if it rains out on Friday. I will head over there if it does.

Went into HW today to buy some sticker stuff for my car numbers & asked the guys if we're racing Friday. They said "no"-John's wedding anniversary is Friday & won't make it. But I'll be at an undisclosed substitute location Friday night (setting up my car for Saturday!). Can you guess where?
-George

stoneman 07-17-2003, 09:13 PM any sugestions on what gears to run for 4 cell stock oval at the carpet track.
Fl Flash 07-17-2003, 10:34 PM Stone,
Try 40x108 with 2.25 tires and go from there, with a 110 ft driveline that will get you close! thats according to my antiquated cheat sheet  so if the car is free and the motors hot after a run put in more gear numericaly.
Carpet wooooohooooooooo Lee! :D
irvan36mm 07-17-2003, 11:06 PM any sugestions on what gears to run for 4 cell stock oval at the carpet track.
Stoney-
Don't get in front of that red, white & blue #45 car! You won't last long!
Seriously,I think Lee's antique cheat sheet is still valid today. I've talked to some of the faster guys & they have suggested gear setups in & around the same range. It guess it sounds about right! Also another tip: Take your time setting up your car & practice,practice,practice,practice-can I say it anymore times? Rushing things & expecting overnight results will almost send you home from the race early! If you get stumped, ask for help!
See you there!

stoneman 07-18-2003, 03:49 PM are you going to the carpet track tonight?
shawnleary 07-20-2003, 11:31 AM Spec Goes Pro.
Just wanted to invite anyone and everyone who wants to run Pro-Spec next points series, or who is thinking about it. We will take a vote on the proposed changes at the next Hobby World race. Hopefully this Friday. So far the class will look something like this.
Any chassis will go, must use Spec Tires, Spec Motor, Spec 6-cell Packs. There is some debate about allowing any brushes or staying with just R's and Spec brushes. A wing will also be allowed, as long as everyone votes for it.
Credit for the idea of Pro-Spec goes to Joe M. (actually brought a Pro-Spec car with him to the track about a year ago), George (who has run a pro-spec car one night and was in the high 7's) and Greg M. for moving forward with the changing to a Pro-Spec class.
This is going to a fast class and especially fast if you consider the total cost of running in it. CHEAP!! Some are saying 32 laps in four minutes. Not too shabby. I've got the proposed rule changes posted on the rules page on the Spec site. I will maintain the Spec website for as long as we/I run Spec at HW. So if you like being able to check your results and points standings, etc, from the comfort of your home PC (or Apple :( ), you will like this class. Come join us!

irvan36mm 07-20-2003, 05:48 PM Actually,I'll be running my Pro-Spec car this Fri. (pending weather-looks good so far!) We'll all see the future of HW Spec Fri night!

irvan36mm 07-20-2003, 08:44 PM hay sounds like a an idea who sells the batteries and motors
stoney:)
I'll give you a hint:
The motors are made by a little ol' company called the J.A. Pan,Co. The batteries are made by C.H. Ina,Inc-both being distributed by Trinity. They are currently being sold at: Hobby World!
-George
bigdon18 07-20-2003, 09:11 PM wow
HW actually has something for the cars that race out back.. maybe when yall start running the pan car chassis they will start carring more pancar parts.. thats if traxxas makes a pancar
Don
stoneman 07-20-2003, 10:23 PM huh I never thought about looking in the hobby shop thanks george.
stoney:rolleyes:
shawnleary 07-21-2003, 01:43 AM Actually going into the shop and them having the stuff we need can be rough sometimes. :p
I usually get my spec packs from Dan with Big Dog for 17 bucks a pack. Motors are around 18 bucks, worked and tuned for 29. Tires are 11 bucks a pair. Cheeeeaaaap!! Come and join us stoney. The best thing about spec is the closeness of the cars. When there are no accidents, more often than not, we are all on the same lap. Lots of fun. Check out the website below for more info and to see how the series can be accessed on the web.
I'm going to run my L3 for the rest of the 19t series to get ready for pro-spec. The newer chassis handle like night and day compared to the Spec chassis.
