Even though it's raining and we probably won't race, I still need to get with you to get those batteries. I will come to jax and meet you, LMK when and where.
BullFrog 03-07-2003, 02:16 PM I haven't commented on this but here I go. HW was given a gift of $11,000.00 by River City R/C Car Club Inc(10 years of racing in the parking lots) and built that track. There was a plan between HW and River City to fix the lighting and everything else you guys are talking about. When River City left because of many reasons(not to be discussed here) ,They (HW) could have still done everything your have been talking about awhile ago. That's just the way HW is and will continue to be.You don't like it go find somewhere else to race. It's not going to change. You can talk to them until your blue in the face and your going to get what you want to hear possibily but in the end its what you see is what you get.
metrodog 03-07-2003, 03:10 PM Bullfrog,
Unlike you I prefer to keep a positive attitude about it! A repaved surface would attrack allot of new and old racers and overall a good business move. I will continue to race there when i can until I have to switch to a dirt car to run there.LOL The group of guys that race at HW are second to none and are the only reason I'm still in the sport after a ruff begining. So bash hobby world all you want. I know you have personal differences with the owners and that doesn't concern me. I just want to race and I want what's good for the sport. I've heard your side of the story several times but have never heard thiers!
Greg :(

katf1sh 03-07-2003, 05:31 PM i will support any track that is quality. what is quality to me may not be quality to you guys..my idea of quality may be higher than someone else's? if dave ran 6 mm of ride height and still bottoms out..thats trouble, lol. hobby world does nothing but provide a area to race at. they do not seem to mind taking your money? but they seem to mind track repair and overall maintenance? when you order a pizza do you help prepare and cook it also? how come? do you just sit back and wait for them to bring it to the table? i know i do, why? because i am paying for a service. make me pay for anything and i expect 100% quality and i demand to be satisfied. i'm jealous of the guys in large trailors! they have a/c coffee makers and satelite tv! if they pay to race than i dont blame them for not coming out of there home like inviroment, lol. you know why i dont own a trailor? i cant afford one, wish i could. btw dave a 6 cell gp 3300 pack matched race level is 37.00 from a well known matcher! the moral of this story is this....if you pay for anything ..you should expect ..quality and satisfaction. if i pay 15.00 to race i expect a fun filled race day..this would include me sitting on my chair behind my pit table out in the sun watching everyone race. this would not include getting all sweaty and smelly lifting pvc pipe and spraying sugar water on the track. a club race, no problem. sad to say but if another track opened it's doors in jville and offered a smooth race surface and they maintained there own track hobby world would again go dark. if this carpet deal goes well i see no reason to race anywhere else, lol. well maybe if they did it twice a month? i'm getting greedy now. joe you dont have to beat anyone to have fun racing r/c cars. when you understand that you will have that one thing. (stole that from city slickers)
greg i dont hate hobby world..but i did race there 10 years ago..that was when bill was backing hw 1000% . i have no idea what went down at hw..but i do imagine it got frustrating when they could never agree on having a smooth surface to race on? i know bill tried a 100 different things to get it right..but it never did turn out smooth by any stretch of the imagination. i had a joke that got bill angry not to long ago..he wanted a nats at hobby world awhile back..i told him he was crazy..i told him a mod 12th scale would catch air on the back stretch and land in the weeds! lol he didn't like it to much..problem is it wasn't far from the truth. maybe lay down some clay on it and race off road? j/k :jest:
joespec 03-09-2003, 11:08 AM katfish,I don't expect to beat everyone when I go race, that's a foolish hope, but I do expect to run at the best of my car,and my driving.I've been doing this for too long to have any ideas about domination, that's not the point of this deal,at least for me. It's obvious that everyone here has some kind of opinion of Hobby World. After the last death of R/C racing in this town,we started back with Legends, and mini-cups,....Bolink cars,on the small piece of asphalt that lies right behind the building! That was the best racing that there ever has been at HW,and I was there for the dirt wars too, that finally amounted to how much you wanted to spend, and to the last death.I don't neccessarily care about where everyone else races,as long as they have fun, that's good enough for me,but my reference point,as well as the point for most in this town,......is the happenings at HW. Big Don,Greg,Katie and family are great people! It's not a matter for me wanting to have improvements in the track, for the mere fact that we have a permanent place to race is great for me! If the track is a certain way for me,it's the same way for everyone else, have you ever raced at a track that had no character? I haven't! And to dispell the notion that I have never raced anywhere else,........I have. To navigate the bumps and dips is all part of the racing experience,no matter where you race! After a couple of weeks,I heard about the subtle complaints about CPT too,so the desire for the"Perfect"track, goes on and on,......ie,the controversity about drilled arms at the "Birds", and the actual verbal confrontations amoung drivers at CPT, c'mon! R/C racing is what it is,and every place is different, agreed? If there is anyone who doesn't feel like they can racer at HW,......then don't come! Simple! But if you feel like you can enjoy a race there,...then I would be amoung the first to welcome you! My only wish for Hobby World is continued success! My wish for all who have complaints is that I hope that you someday find the track that you are perfectly happy with,........but you won't! My wish for the racers here is no more rain on friday nights! And if I could wish for anything for myself, then it would be to go back to the old days of the little bullring, where we could race with old cars, old batteries, and all of the hype and junk that came along with that beautiful super-speedway would not have permeated our little racing deal,.....but I figure that most of you out there who complain about the way things are now, would'nt have come to race with us on the bullring either,.....and that would've been just fine too! Matter of fact,we had consistantly more racers every friday night on the small track, than we have ever had on the speedway! Fun racing? It was back then,it's less now.
joespec 03-09-2003, 11:44 AM Everyone needs to see where the logical conclusion of the advancement of R/C racing leads to,......eventually not racing at all! The last major racing deal going on here was dirt oval, which met it's death due to costs. When people realize that they can race other things, for the money that they wind up spending on R/C,they leave the sport. So,to keep racing, the costs need to be restrained somewhat. We had,for the most part, the perfect deal with our old bullring, flat oval. When Bill, with a fist full of race fees, came in and provided support for the multi-purpose track,we quickly sped to the point where we are today, his intentions were good, and bad,for Bill never saw the demand of oval, which has led to oval being the predominant racing disipline here now. Look at the facts,.....there have been many racing venues closed down due to lack of support, some recent, that also have talked about on this site. Suppport is directly equal to getting more people involved, and if you have a huge, major facility, and the cost for start-up is prohibitively expensive,.....they will look at you astonished, and walk away, never realizing how much fun R/C racing is! There is a place for all the high-tech stuff,........regionals,nationals,world races, sponsored events in general. People need to understand that Hobby World is a local venue,no matter how badly Bill wanted a national event there, bless his heart! Bill has the right idea being as supportive as he is for R/C racing, but even he has announced that his region directorship will be over next year. Perhaps he will finally be able to relax, and be a regular racer someday, for he is truly a delight to know, even if he wants to debate sometimes! Honestly, everyone is welcome here! But don't expect anything of grandeur, just some good ol' hometown racing! With the bumps! Oh yeah,....paint in bright colors! I have heard that several people in this town are building another car for Tuffy's,another hometown,Great track to race on,perhaps some of ya'll spoiled racers could build a second,or fifth car to race with us at Hobby World? At least we don't have to manually count laps too  But if we did,I would still race here!
I think you missed the point of katfish and everyone else Joespec. HW track is in need of repair on the infield and lights. It is the only perm track in Jacksonville. So why cant it ACT like it. No one, ecspecialy myself, DOSE NOT WANT HW TO GO AWAY. They provide a much needed outlet for the R/C community.
I think alot of people would support HW without question, hell i do it every week side by side with everyone else who pays $10.00. They have been the only game in JAX for the longest time and earned the right as such. However true, the track conditions should also reflect the pride and honor of that title that everyone hangs on HW.
We pay a FEE to support the track and the up-keep of that track.
joespec 03-09-2003, 11:56 AM Why is it that, for the most part, touring racers are less likely to complain about where they race? Is it that the oval guys have become so jaundiced about the conditions they have availale, that they just cannot appreciate the experience anymore? Back in the day,we used to have to complain just to have an oval set-up in the usual road course parking lot deal. (Bill) Could it be that in some conditions, oval racers might not be able to go as fast as they want to go? I thought the point was to cross the finish line first! Speed is relative :freak:
joespec 03-09-2003, 12:20 PM Jarc,.....I appreciate your support of HW,and yes,it needs some work for sure,.....but $10 dollars to race, and no Roar required, there are alot of places where we would not get away with that little, even Tuffy's has gone Roar now,and I think that there are underlying reasons for this, but the evidence has not yet surfaced yet, other than the insurance angle, which is understandable. We have had work days at HW before, and I have sundays off,so I would be more than happy to meet you,and others to fix what we can.But let me explain to you about some of the costs involved. The light bill there is extreme, especially since we have alot of equipment going,ie.....all the stuff that the R/C industry has convinced us that we need to buy,in order to win,.......maybe. Back in the day, none of that stuff was needed on our bullring track, proof to my former posts about how track size is directly connected to the expense involved. Another point, when CPT opened up,the racing at HW died for a time, now I would hope that no one here would expect the owners of the LHS to shell out hundreds of dollars to improve something that no one was showing up for anyway! If you had a leak in your roof, would you fix the toilet instead? I'm sure in time, the track will see some improvements, but it will be after everyone who has this deal in the right frame of mind, just comes out and races! Please understand,we had Roar shoved down our throats, when the speedway was first built, but the drivers resisted, for after a few years of racing here without it,they didn't want to be told that they had to have something else,in order to be able to compete. Bad policy to tell a west-side red-neck that he has to do something  This is a local, hometown track,no matter how big it is,and that's the way it will probably stay,.....thank God! They had a national here,....once! Ask Bill how that went. Who showed up to race last friday night? Just us. Who would've raced this past friday,if for no rain? Just us. WE race here,we decide. We will work for improvement, but we also will enjoy along the way,......I do! Do you?

cneyedog 03-09-2003, 03:26 PM joespec: Why is it that, for the most part, touring racers are less likely to complain about where they race? I'm an oval racer (who has run roadcourse pretty good as well when i wanted to in the past) So I'll address this, its easy because touring cars have independent suspension, higher in the air, shocks all the way around and ABSORB BUMPS in the track much better than a pan/oval type car, quite simple actually....and they bi-tch just as loud as oval guys if the track is not good believe me, they bottomed out at hobbyworld as well when they ran the state races there a few years back. If being jaundiced means wanting a smooth track or parking lot to RACE on not run around and brake parts on because i hit the wooped de doos on the backstretch....than so be it, I'm guilty as charged. If i goto a parking lot race.....wherever it may be...Daytona,Orlando,Sarasota or Jacksonville etc and the track is bumpy as hell im not happy ......so if i goto a purpose built r/c track thats bumpy as hell I'm not happy either. its that easy joe. I hope you guys have fun racing there on friday nights and continue to enjoy it, that is afterall what its all about. Hobbyworld as i understand it has been around quite awhile and been the mainstay of racing in your area....that cool.........but dont be upset about the people who dont run at hobbyworld and choose to run the newer tracks in Jax because they are in better condition, thats just the nature of racers.
peace :p
katf1sh 03-10-2003, 12:42 AM rest easy joe there is at least 2 tracks i know of that are beyond hw status. kissimee and ron nortons carpet track . i cant think of much worse. btw i got to race at tuffy's today! what a great track and what a great group of racers there. i'll be back up to try and tame that bad boy!
BullFrog 03-10-2003, 08:01 AM Joespec--- NO Comment .
davepull 03-10-2003, 10:51 AM went to HW lastnight with Dave Rook and Dave Kennady. we put up 2 more lights and got the track pretty lite up. I am happy with the results. you know car see 3 and the whole back stretch. so do the anti rain dance
jiggy jiggy
Dave
Oh yah Joespec just stop already
joespec 03-10-2003, 10:52 AM katf1sh---glad you made it to Jax. Tuffy's is great! GeorgiaFordFan---you right! Bites! cneyedog---I can see your points, and can understand how anyone who wants to race, wants to find the best facility available. For us around here,HW is more than a mainstay of racing,it's kinda like family, and that's the atmosphere we had before the advent of the superspeedway, but,it's there,we all have the same things to deal with there, and anyone is welcome to race with us,we're glad to have you! Last year,....Joe Malin was the star of 4-cell,19 turn,.....but now,we have several that get around the track pretty good,a class that I thought would just cater to the hard-core racer, has become one that many are attracted to,which proves one of my points from an earlier post, the main thing with oval racers is the SPEED! :freak: Oh well, that's the beauty of R/C,almost everything is possible, and is probably tried.
joespec 03-10-2003, 10:59 AM davepull-thank you for working on the track! Thanks to Dave and Dave too! That's the point, and you see that!
metrodog 03-10-2003, 11:50 AM Thanks dave and dave, that will make it easier for the old men see me when I pass them!LOL
Greg :jest:
shawnleary 03-10-2003, 10:16 PM How about we all pitch in and put a permanent roof over the entire track?? I got 15 bucks every Friday?
Shawn
Thanks dave and dave, that will make it easier for the old men see me when I pass them!LOL

davepull 03-10-2003, 10:21 PM hey no problem guys. I love to race just as much as you do. if any one has a cordless drill can you bring it friday night. there a a couple of places on the touring track that need addressing. those of you that know me know that I don't hit things that often but last thursday I did hit something with a 9x2 in the car. it torn the whole LF off my tc3 and cost me like $25.00 to fix. If I had taken the time to fix some of the tings on the track this wouldn't have happened so please help me out and bring a cordless drill
Dave
katf1sh 03-10-2003, 10:28 PM i have a cordless bulldozer? and rich has a cordless steamroller. he he he
davepull 03-10-2003, 10:36 PM if my L4 keeps running like it is I'll take you up on it. man this track is weird. everything that I know about oval does me no good. what should work to help the car doesn't. man i can't wait to hit the rug
metrodog 03-10-2003, 10:37 PM Dave just let me know friday. I almost always have a full assortment of cordless tools and fasteners with me in my work van.
Greg

Dave
Had the cordless with me last night when we went to practice. I think we got the areas Dave mentioned. Changed a pipe in that first sweeper to make it a bit more round, took out the couplings on the entire back straight away, and fixed the right side sweeper where the pipe cracked and had a spot just big enough for a touring tire to catch in..... I think I hit that one several times myself Dave if that’s where im thinking you hit.
The lighting is Soooooooooooooooo much better. You might be able to see a black body now........ and I don’t think the are done yet.
Thank You Dave K., Dave R., and Dave P. !!!

metrodog 03-12-2003, 10:00 PM Hey Dave and Dave lights are awsome! Had no problem seeong my car or others. Please beware we have 2 thieving little hoodloms hanging around the track. Tires, cell phone and a wallet have come up missing. In short watch your stuff in the pits!

Greg
Greg-
"Thieving Hoodlums"? That's what I should call you & Jason for stealing some wins in Spec!
Seriously, everyone should really keep an eye on each other's gear when in the pits. Kinda like a "Community Neighborhood Watch" deal! You should be wary of people that do not look familiar walking around in the pits. If they do not look like they are racers or honest people (i.e.: parents w/kids) that are looking to get into the sport, then you should bring them to John's or Greg's (HW) attention & they will take care of it. Leave your wallets,$$,cell phone, etc in your pockets or your car. Lock up your pit box or get your neighbor to watch it while you're on the driver's stand,in the hobby shop,or out at the KFC or pizza place! Everyone knows how much we spend on this sport & theft, unfortunately, does happen. Also, watch the little ones running around through the pit area. Not saying all kids are bad,but Metrodog can tell you about some new (1 hr old!) nut-drivers that he never got to use at another track! Sucks!
BTW-If you use duct tape & plastic sheeting left over from the last Orange Alert to catch these hoodlums, call me! I'll help hold them down for you! My .02!

joespec 03-18-2003, 07:29 AM Saw the race sheet on Shawn's site for last friday night,.......awesome run Jason!! Seems like the best battle on the track is once again street spec! Will be out this friday night,....should have been there last, but it looked like rain on the radar when I got home. That won't happen again.See ya'll!
No race this weekend, everyones going south........ Looked like rain this weekend anyway.

Joespec-
You missed a great Spec race last Friday night! Well,I think I jumped out into the lead (in the 2nd qual) with Jason fast behind me! But I had to rub fenders w/ Greg down the whole backstretch! Kinda looked like Darlington-complete w/my famous aerobatic displays over the turn 3 pipe! That's when Jason took over & was gone for the rest of the race. Actually,Shannon & I had a contingency plan for Shawn & Jason iin the mains-but we ended up taking each other out in the first lap! We're gonna have to work on our plans in the future!
I think that my car is finally competitive enough to become a threat! Very special thanks to Greg for letting me steal some secrets from his 2 cars! BTW,you also missed me taking 19 turn B mains from Dan after a very similar beating & banging session! Do you think that the Big Doggies have it out for me!?! Be ready for next time so we could gang up on Greg!
-George
BTW,did you fix your wife's sink @ the shop????

C-dog-
I'm not gonna make the trip this year. Have to get t-shirts ready for TPC Sawgrass for my 5th year in a row. (13,000+ pcs & counting!) Even ESPN wanted 100 pcs for their camera & tech crew to wear! Good luck to all going to Daytona!

Don Raulerson
don, glad to hear from ya.hope everything is getting better for you.you get better and come on out and race real soon.just to let you know i bought atomic motorsports and now do motors and have both stock and 19 turns in stock.thanks BEAR!
bigdon18 03-19-2003, 12:08 PM hey Bear,
i had heard that atomic was sold when i got out of the hospital after a 47 day stay, so i try emailing Adam and calling with no luck so i figured it was true, beging a atomic sponsored driver i wish i have had gotten an email about the sell instead of being in the dark. i hope Adam still come around because i have know him since 1990 and been great friends with him. i'll miss all the B.S.ing and motor talking we did.
but its really good news to hear that the atomic was bought by you Bear, and atomic motors still be around in jaxsonville.

About Daytona next year- Let's do it! Count me in!! It's good to hear from you again! Waiting for you to come back to race @ HW. They just put up a couple more lights around the track. The track is a little more brighter now,but I don't think that they are done yet! At least you can get away with running a dark colored car and still see it!
Hope to see you soon in Jax!!!

bigdon18 03-20-2003, 10:54 AM yeah i have notice that on the thread and that was a very needed upgrade for the track and glad it is done... i know before on the back straight you had to use your Jedi Force sometimes to make it down it

joespec 03-21-2003, 07:21 PM Big Don, heard you were having some troubles lately, and I hope that you get better very soon! Phil said that it was pretty brutal for you,and we will all say a prayer for you,for a speedy recovery!! r/c racers are just a little more fun to be around than mere mortals,so hurry back!!
joespec 03-21-2003, 07:32 PM Irvin36mm,.....I'm still kicking myself for not making last friday night's race, especially since I went over there this afternoon, and it was a ghost town! Usually there are a few locals who might not be into the traveling race thing,.....but the dust devils were whipping up,and the tumble-weeds were the only thing rolling on the track,.....to make matters worse,sunday-no race also. Just goes to show that life is short, when you miss out,it's gone. I'm bringing an umbrella next friday,I'll be there for sure. Will probably go sunday to test anyway, got to get another four tenths to keep up with the Hobby World version of the "brat pack" Jason and Shawn  just kidding! Both of those guys have gotten very fast, quite quickly! Especially Shawn! They are both fun to race with,as well as all of those in that class. The amazing thing is that with the new rules,we are all faster, but still close. Exciting for sure.

If you are really going to practice this Sunday,LMK! I'll go out there w/you! Might go out there Saturday! I'll see if Greg wants to tag along. We need to get these Spec sleds tuned & ready to catch Jason and Shawn. Even w/the new rules they're still bloody fast, but it's given the rest of us a better chance at catching up w/them!

It’s a great bunch of guys hosting it and a very well put together race venue. No hobby shop, so bring parts just incase.
3. North Florida R/c Racing. It’s a parking lot event hosted by NFLRC INC. Nitro and Electric, Every 2nd and 4th Saturdays of the month. Try the web page for more info www.nflrc.com . Hobby shop is less then 2 minutes away.
4. Starting May 17th. First Coast Carpet Racing Inc will host a 4 race Summer Sizzle Carpet race, Oval and Onraod. You can also look at there web page for further details. www.fccarpetracing.com . Hobby shop will be onsite and on-line.
Venues 1, 2, and 4, has a great on-site motor company. Atomic Motorsports can assist you in just about all your electric motor needs. Brushes to a full service motor tune.
