View Full Version : NMRCC 2011 Gaylord, MI RC Racing and FUN!
Mike D. 03-03-2011, 08:27 PM That's not a PM. LOL.
Can you order me two with one extra set os carbon shoes?
Part #s wrx6551 and wrx6552. Don't know what the part # for the carbon shoes is.
Different part # for heavy and medium weight flywheel. Both are 34mm.
what you gonna do for me?:p
I can see where the heavy springs could make a shoe wear out quicker than a light spring on NMRCC track. The constant on and off throttle making the shoes engage and disengage more often hence wearing shoes quicker were the lighter sprung shoe stays ingaged at lower rpm, so less slippage on shoe. But experience speaks for it's self, so I will try all different setups to see what works for my driving style.
what you gonna do for me?:p
Well not sure, but I told you earlier not to ask for sexual favors, that won't happen. But I might have found a new hobby shop, Inferno's bargain barn. LOL.

no bargin barn! more like favor factory....LMAO
The only question I would have is are all clutch bells the same size? So no need for a special clutch bell.

losi is differnt, thats all i know

I like that even better. That was quick come back too. You must have been waiting a while to use that one me. LOL.

no, it just came to me, kinda impressed myself too...:dude:
tipperjackson 03-03-2011, 08:39 PM Yep, I understand there not centrifugal on cars, but the power delivery is similar. I guess there are many other factors like, are you using the same clutch springs all the way around, are you using the same weight shoes and how much power does you motor deliver vs the amount of friction your shoes deliver say carbon shoes vs alum shoes. I have always set my clutches so that two shoes engage at lower rpm they slip because the power is greater than the amount of friction that two shoes can produce, then the other two shoes engage at a higher rpm that locks all four shoes. Thus giving consistent traction without over powering the track. Yes, if you use all four shoes with the same material and spring rate then a lighter spring rate will engage earlier in the power band, but I will tell you that a powerful motor will over come the clutch engagement and slip, because the centrifugal forces are not great enough to fully engage the clutch shoe to the clutch bell. Sorry but your both mistaken. Your looking one dimensional on a four dimensional plane.

LOL, your in denial tipp! you better hit support group this week, ill email adam drake and and tell him he is wrong...lol
Does traction come into effect on the shoes? More traction the more slip in the clutch?
tipperjackson 03-03-2011, 08:49 PM Yes, higher traction tracks you can get more aggressive with heavier springs, where the clutch engage at higher rpms. On looser tracks like ours you need to back off a bit on spring rates so that you can put the power to the track.
Hi my name is Joe and I'm a inexperienced rc addict.
We all need a hug and sum sun and dirt to play in.
tipperjackson 03-03-2011, 09:05 PM Inferno is googling for new information to counter my common sense approach.....LOL!
Hey this as turned into the jbod, gns, inferno, and tipperjackson show.
Tipp, you ready to buy the HPI 5SC yet?
Mike D. 03-03-2011, 09:09 PM Inferno is googling for new information to counter my common sense approach.....LOL!
LOL, i found it on losi site but dont know how to post it, its the 8ight tuning guide, says right in it not to use stiff springs, will cause heat and wear out shoes due to slipping.
Is this it Inferno? Clutch - continued
Softer springs: engage the clutch at a lower RPM and provide a smoother power band but often less vigorous
acceleration. If the engine doesn’t have enough low-end power try running more preload (the same size
spring with more angle) or a stiffer (thicker wire size) spring.
Stiffer springs: engage at a higher RPM and allow the car to launch harder but this often accompanied by
wheel spin and momentary loss of traction. You should also be careful not to go too stiff with the clutch
springs as this can cause the clutch to slip and prematurely wear out the clutch shoes.
Clutch Shoes: You have both composite and aluminum clutch shoes available for use in the 8IGHT 4 shoe
clutch. Ideally you want to use two of each of these for the best tuning and wear characteristics. We have
found the two plastic and two aluminum clutch shoe set-up to work best on most tracks. If the track surface
is very loose, rough and doesn’t have jumps that are difficult to get over we have found that four plastic
shoes will allow more slip and smoother acceleration. Running all four aluminum clutch shoes will have the
quickest and hardest hitting clutch action with the most punch. This isn’t as good on slick or rough tracks
Mike D. 03-03-2011, 09:16 PM sent you the tuning guide tipp in email, read the clutch part, then come back and post i was right....LOL

YEP!!!!!!!!!! I just sent the hole tuning guide to tipp, lots of good info on there, including why you should not use stiff springs.....
Yes you are correct, but it also says a lot about track conditions for your set up, and the way Tipp drives maybe the stiffer springs work for him. Me I'm on and off throttle a lot meaning slipping in the clutch, Tipp is very mephitical in his driving responses and is in the throttle more than off so less slippage with heavy springs.

ya, personal preference really. i like green and gold or black and green
Mike D. 03-03-2011, 09:29 PM who is planning on going to the bragging rights this weekend? are you coming back same day? i do have the jammin ready to race.

Your reading only what you want to hear, the key words are "TOO STIFF" if the spring are so stiff that they never fully engage then yes you are correct, but I was assuming that everyone understands that too much of anything is bad, if your springs are too week it can engage so early that it will literally stall the engine. I think you need to read all the paragraphs and understand all the dynamics of the system and work within the usable range of the intended system.
I just want to race!!!!!!!
tipperjackson 03-03-2011, 09:41 PM inferno, where are you gonna run that jammin if not at bragging rights? Adam does'nt allow 4x4's to run on the indoor track..........

Just pull the front drive shaft.

im glad you admitt you where wrong in a weird kinda way!! all we where discussing is what spings wore out shoes quicker, and the awnser now is stiffer spring do! they slip more than a softer spring, just have to have a good engine with power to use the softer springs, i see why you use stiffer springs now, those darn os motors cant handle the soft springs....LMAO

thats why i asked if anyone was going, this thing is to fast to race at performance
tipperjackson 03-03-2011, 09:46 PM inferno, I think that GNS was going down, meeting JJohnson in Cadillac, racing bragging rights and club race after, then driving back. You might hitch a ride with both of them.
I don't think I'm gonna make bragging rights this year, not that into it. I'd rather go race at BFG Sunday club race, Less stress I guess.........

Ok, inferno, you win!!!!!!!
Until we get to the track, then we'll see who's set-up works the best.........I wish you luck, all theories end at the track and sound facts come to light......
Just saying!
tipperjackson 03-03-2011, 09:52 PM are you going to BFG this sunday?
I don't know, do you want to go?

if ya need a race buddy....sure!
tipperjackson 03-03-2011, 09:59 PM Oh man, now I'm faced with a decision. I was'nt gonna go down but would like to race at bfg, always like racing with John and his clan, always alot of fun. Can I call you on Sat. with my decision?

Mike D. 03-04-2011, 12:04 AM i got my new MMP from castle today, i hooked it up to castle link and had v1.26 on it and was not updated from castle? is this normal? i updated it but you would think they would. but seems to work alot better than my other one.
