View Full Version : Proving Grounds General Chat
hyperdesigns 03-18-2011, 09:00 AM E thats too funny... get you slow ass out of the way!!!!
pretty simple guys just go wide in the corner. fast guys always general take the inside line. fast guys will useally give you a corner or 2 to move, then there going to make a hole to get through.
h2odude 03-18-2011, 09:02 AM I agree, but it should also be about having fun. When my dad comes racing with me everyone gets pissed off at him for getting in the way when he's trying his best to get out of the way for other racers. If you don't want a guy crashing into you dont yell at him go and help him out in a respectful way. Nobody comes to my dad and try to help him with his lines or setup he always ends up asking me for help. At the end of the day he regrets spending money on racing b/c he doesnt have fun the way it is now.
Uncle E 03-18-2011, 09:03 AM Sounds to me like a bunch of you guys are getting FAST! Just keep pushing to your next level and between going faster and gaining control you'll realize this will no longer be an issue. It suck because you right there in the middle of it all, and in no time you'll be at the front of it all!
Bbbraaaaaah
2fst2c 03-18-2011, 09:16 AM I won't give my line in a corner either. They can wait until we're out of the corner and I will give them room to get by. I do get the occasional DB that will hit me but that just sets them up for a payback. And 90% of the time, they get it. Happened at the first Nitro Race a few weeks back. Dude came in too hot into a corner, used me for his brakes. Next corner it was payback time. He looked at me and I said, Oh like the sh** you did in that last corner was OK? I know when faster guys are faster and the only time I will give a corner is if they clearly have me on the inside. Otherwise, we'll tango until we clear the turn. I'm always good about letting Good Fast Racers by me but the guy that happens to be having the lap of his life and can't put 2 20 second laps together, probably ain't goin to happen. Aren't forum discussions so much fun! Here I was bored today thinking I had nothing else to do. :)
WarpWind 03-18-2011, 09:35 AM Wow, this has been some interesting reading. Now I understand a little better why lap traffic can be so frustrating. Of course, this may lead to more problems. If you know lap traffic is intentionally holding you up, it may lead to more incidents. I think the best way to handle things is to break things up a bit. Just my $0.02.

By nature I am one of the most competitive people I know. But at the end of the day it IS all about having fun. I for one agree that no one needs to move out of their line for me if I'm passing or lapping you. All I ask is hold your line and DO NOT SLOW DOWN. I know on several occasions I have gotten upset because I am coming up behind a slower driver and planning my move and before you know it, they stop or slow down to a roll right in front of you. I have broke because I ass pack someone because of that so many times.
Its racing, if I am faster and I don't have the talent to pass a slower racer its my problem and I will end up paying for it. As for me, when someone like Boatman is coming up behind me, I do like E said and I swing a little wide in a corner and leave room for him to shoot past me. Its amazing, good drivers always see the gap and make the move past you CLEANLY.
None of this is a bad thing, it just means everyone is getting faster and becoming more competitive. Want to see rough racing? I have been to other tracks where the most common pass move is to run right over you every time.
Just wondering what brought this topic up anyways? Are we all suffering from SRS (sperm retention syndrome)? Its the males version of PMS.
dan-o 03-18-2011, 10:25 AM I have always been of the motto, you go slow to go fast! If I am lapping someone I do not expect to have them pull outta the way. I will wait and set them up for the following corners or drive a different line. BUT that being said, it is a RESPECT thing that in a qualifier if you are getting passed you ARE slower and like E said let em by and try to learn something by following that persons line.
DO you think that Munson, Boat , and all the other fast guys do not know how to pass??? They are patient and look for opportunities to pass, if given the respect of a lapped driver , GREAT but if not never you worry they will pass you and show you the wheel !!!
Good clean racing = Good fun

Well Said!
speeddaddy 03-18-2011, 11:42 AM What I said in my 1st post wasn't about passing it was about the start of the race and at corners. I qualified 3rd for the main so that put me behind the #1 qualifier, so the race started and I didn't want to hit the leader so I' am taking my time until we get around the corner and then I get slammed from behind and go from 3rd to 12th in 10 feet. The race announcer right there should have stopped the race and restarted it and told the drivers that's not how we start a race here at PG. Telling the drivers they have to slow down to make a turn, not go wide open and use the truck ahead of him(or the tubes) as his brakes.THIS ISN'T A VIDEO GAME IT'S REAL . Sure I come to PG to have fun and I don't have to win to have fun, but I have a lot of money in these toys and I don't want to get it smashed every time I come to the track. Maybe they should have a class just for people who don't care about there own vehicles, don't care about other peoples vehicles, don't care about other people. We could call it WTFIDGAS class. lol..... The 1st person who sends me a PM on what WTFIDGAS means I will give them one of my hand made pit towels for free the next time I' am at the track. Just give me your name in the PM and I will monogram it on your pit towel. Also tell me what colors you like. This contest ends tonight at 11:00 pm... PS I'll even let the bashers in this contest Edited.. WE HAVE A WINNER...(ehartman_49348)
mudge 03-18-2011, 12:44 PM Restart the race? Now that funny!!! This is real not a video game. There is no reset button.
jblades 03-18-2011, 02:48 PM It's real simple. If your whining about having to move over for a faster driver, then just move over. Otherwise when your the fast guy, you'll be the one botching about lapped traffic. Quit being little bitches and have fun. Guess what, Boat, Munson and Caleb are a few of the faster guys at PG, but you can damn well bet, if someone is faster, they will move over and let you pass. So will the fastest drivers in the world. I've been to enough big races, that I've seen Tebo, Cav's, and all the fast guys drive with style and get the F out of the way. And about the mains, I could of lapped the 3rd and 4th place cars last night, but they were racing for position, so I just slowed way down and let them have their battle.

jblades 03-18-2011, 02:52 PM But if your not in a close battle for position, you've already been lapped, move.
mudge 03-18-2011, 03:06 PM I was the 4th place guy and did see you do that. Thanks blade. Now if we can just get you to shutup on the drivers stand. LMAO.

that wasn't my point my point is Chad is running a buisness. As the owner he should be the one concerned about the consumers being happy with what he's selling which in this case is a racing program. In order to race i have to work a little less then 2 hours to pay for the fee. Its no fun if i work two hours and pay to go racing and Go and get bitched at by the fast guys for not being perfect. If they want you to stop causing crashes they should be the person who comes over to you respectfully and helps you. NOBODY ever did that to my or my dad yet they continue to complain about getting in crashes. Then I got to go onto the losi forum and make a milion posts just to get one stinkin answer from a losi team driver when somebody from the track coulda helped out instead getting pissed and yell at somebody. Then once i get the car setup and proper lines theres less crashing and less yelling on the drivers stand leading to more fun and competitive races making everyone happier that they paid money to go race especially now that i got a clay track in my backyard now that the snows gone.
dan-o 03-18-2011, 03:53 PM Anyone against or currently running 3S in 4x4 shortcourse? Will PG allow them? Just feeling out options?
mudge 03-18-2011, 04:12 PM Anyone against or currently running 3S in 4x4 shortcourse? Will PG allow them? Just feeling out options?
Personally against it.
mudge 03-18-2011, 04:15 PM If anyone has questions or needs help with setup feel free to come to the orange Team Mojo room. If we can't answer or help you we will get you someone who can.
Leonard 03-18-2011, 04:31 PM 3s in a 4wd SC. thats the funniest thing i've read all day lol. So much for that whole slower is faster ! Parts department line 1 !!
h2odude 03-18-2011, 04:35 PM Not trying to start a war just seems like pg isn't getting any closer too 100 entries which was roy's goal a couple pages back. If you want to achieve a goal you don't keep doing the same thing when it's not working. I think constructive critiscism should be welcomed here because it will help the racing program grow which would benefit everyone. I love racing at PG and would love to see it get even better i'm not trying to be mister smarty pants at a debate.

I understand your point and I'm going to try not to offend you but I'm going to go out on a limb here..Did you ask a million guys at the track for help? Or do you just expect them all to come over and tell you what is wrong? I've found most of the guys at PG are friendly and helpful. Only a couple times in the years I've been racing has another racer came over on his own free will and said "Hey, you should change this". But if I find someone that is running the same vehicle as I am and I go ASK THEM for help, they've always done their best to provide it. I'm just sayin :)

is that right???? on 3S components run cooler, you can get longer run times. Wanna argue that one??? Clue BUS LINE 1 lol
2fst2c 03-18-2011, 05:09 PM Anyone against or currently running 3S in 4x4 shortcourse? Will PG allow them? Just feeling out options?
I'm not sure why you would need it. Unless you're running a 1900kv 1/8 motor or something.
EDIT: I see your reason posted already. ^^^
dan-o 03-18-2011, 05:11 PM yeah i have the MMpro short course kit with a 2400kv motor.... but the 1410 3800kv is plenty fast enough on 2s just another option. That is my reasoning...
Leonard 03-18-2011, 05:54 PM is that right???? on 3S components run cooler, you can get longer run times. Wanna argue that one??? Clue BUS LINE 1 lol
Yeah that is right, have you seen how people can hardly control these missiles on 2s. As far as cooler temps, mine on 2s the speedo is 78* and the motor is 110* after six minutes. I am not sayin this is the case for you,I don't know who you are but nine times out of ten it is the people that dont need to go faster that are the ones that buy bigger motors and bigger batteries and control their vehicle even less. Clue bus there for ya ! I will however concede the longer run times, but last I checked I didnt have a problem running a 6 minute race. So yeah that is still the funniest thing I've read today.
Uncle E 03-18-2011, 06:00 PM PG has a PC policy we will equally bitch at slow guys and fast guys, so everyone feels equally violated.
PG will not attempt to make everyone happy. We will encourage individuals who have an issue to discuss it in everyday possible to create an improved program. You are all saying the same stuff that's been hashed out over and over and over and over and over.... It'll get better I promise!
Uncle E 03-18-2011, 06:01 PM We'll stick with 2 cells for racing 4wd SC.
Uncle E 03-18-2011, 06:05 PM If RC racing was about having fun, I would have quit about 3 years ago. Easily 1/2 of the races I come home from have sucked ass!
I just can't get enough of the challenge though! Wrong setup, wrong tires, something breaks, battery explodes.....
Leonard 03-18-2011, 06:10 PM PG has a PC policy we will equally bitch at slow guys and fast guys, so everyone feels equally violated.
Damnit now this is the funniest thing I read today ! Screw you E and see ya tomorrow:thumbsup:

tazman182 03-18-2011, 06:31 PM The only thing I'll add is that I agree with going wide in turns a little to give some space to a faster guy. The thing I DON'T want to have happen is where I am so worried about getting yelled at by some "pro" that I am watching behind my truck rather than just racing. I think sometimes the faster guys don't get the intimidation factor. We don't want to crash you, but If I could make the vehicle go exactly where I wanted it to then it would be a moot point. I would only be upset if someone clearly and intentionally nailed me. With their vehicle......
If anyone has questions or needs help with setup feel free to come to the orange Team Mojo room. If we can't answer or help you we will get you someone who can.
Just see someone else and cut out the middle man. These guys dont know anything.Just kidding.

its all good leonard. It all about racing toy cars and having FUN!!! trust me I am with you this but, you just hurt my feelings...lol
seriously wheres the vagisil???
Uncle E 03-18-2011, 07:41 PM Dan o did you run a track called vicksberg?
jblades 03-18-2011, 08:29 PM Ok, I really want E and the whole crew to know, I'm so glad to have a track to race at. Thank you for a great track!
Uncle E 03-18-2011, 08:33 PM Thanks blades I'll give you your $20 Saturday. So rumor has it your going into stk sc?!
dan-o 03-18-2011, 08:39 PM Yes I did, I was the race announcer for some of their bigger events, MARS etc. I also announced for R&L back in the mid 90's, that was before kids though. I will say this I am having more fun racing with my son now then ever. We never had a facility like PG to race at unless you wanted to drive to Illinois or Detroit. You guys got a great thing going and I hope to see it grow. Hit me up next time I am at the track we can chat if you want.
PUKE SLOWSI out!!!
scrmngchkn 03-18-2011, 10:17 PM What if pg numbers the trucks? That way the announcer can call slower trucks as to what faster truck is coming up behind them. Every little bit of info from experienced drivers will help.
hyperdesigns 03-18-2011, 10:43 PM well i got rid of the "misquito" and decided to build a Losi 810e. ten-scte and 810 share all the same parts. going to run a mmp sct system so ill be able to run 2,3, or 4 cell. buggy will only weight under 6.5 pounds loaded so will start with a 2 cell and work my way up. and yes the buggy is roar legal!!! here a couple pics. not completely finished just need a spur gear and a diff top plate. if anyone has a extra spur they bought for a scte and could sell me that would be great.

I have not been violated, beaten, pissed off, run into, taken out, yelled at, called a hack, or anything else for that matter in a long while. I must be doing something wrong. I'm going to try to race next Wednesday and Saturday, can someone help me out please?
jblades 03-19-2011, 12:44 AM I'll yell at you buddy!
ezracer18 03-19-2011, 01:35 AM wow, I take a couple days off, and miss a whole book full of what???? I love how people think no one is there to help them, but I have news for you. there are lots of people there to help you, we are not mind readers, you have to ASK for help if you need it. Thats what I did, and it has paid off. the whole issue of moving over and all is way out there, all the fast guys want, is a little respect when they are lapping you. believe it or not, when they were new, I bet they moved over too when they were being lapped.
I guess its just hard to watch sometimes, when the leader is aniliating the field and has someone a lap or two down, that is blocking? I mean come on, move over and follow them, learn their line, and use it against someone at your level. your time will come where your lapping the field. I guess you can say patience is needed, but I must say, this is some pretty intense racing, a lot more then I have ever seen or thought r/c racing could be.
so the next time you need help, just ask the guys that are beating you every week for a little help, they are not going to give you everything, but they will help you out. I have helped a lot of guys out in the sc class, just in hopes that they will get faster, so we are not lapping them in two or three laps in the races. I do not know everything on the sc trucks, but do know my fair share, if you have any questions, look me up at the track, we are usually there every wednesday, friday, and saturday. I am always helping someone new get faster.
see everyone out there saturday. lets see if Mr. Rodgers is still confused on what truck to run, the losi or jammin. he looked a little confused in the main on wednesday, when Jason was stomping him.
the G&G show.
munsonator08 03-19-2011, 08:21 AM Here is what I think.
I agree with Revo to some degree about the oldschool racers. I grew up racing with alot of fast guys, ran novice class for a long time. when i bumped into stock class, i remember i was constantly getting annihilated, never even considered running modified at that level. stock was where it was at, seemed to be the biggest class anywhere you go. anyhow, the only way your going to get faster is by racing guys that are faster than you. when you beat them, then you move on to another bracket of people that are faster yet, and so on and so forth. - unless your Tebo, Cavalieri, or Maifield, etc... there is always going to be someone faster than you. now being that your racing with faster guys, you need to earn respect. you dont have to escort yourself off the track and move out of the way. just give guys some room. a couple feet here and there is all thats needed. if your fast enough, then you can keep up. if your a lap down, just go a bit wide in a corner and let someone have the line. same thing with qualifiers. if someone is faster than you, let them by and just follow them. if your racing with someone eventually if you put pressure on people, they will fold like a cheap lawn chair.
respect is the key thing with racing. if people dont respect you then they wont race clean and they are less likely to give you room on the track. its a 2 way thing. if your leading a race and lapping people, you cant just plow through the field. the guys your lapping are racing as well, maybe not on your pace - but they are racing with someone. unless you are racing with uncle E, he is just a field filler - feel free to hack or plow him out of your way. he doesnt matter. LOL.. J/K E.
it takes a while to be fast. you cant just pick up a controller and expect to destroy everyone your first day out, or even for a while. it takes a long time to earn respect, get a feel for your stuff and anticipate what other people are going to do. you almost have to read peoples minds. if you know someone is going too hot into a corner that your racing with - say your on the outside of a 2 wide battle going into a corner, you know they arent going to out brake you, just stab the brakes and watch them go flying off the track. they will be mind boggled as to what just happened. now is it there fault that they hit you if they go full tilt in a corner - yeah, but you being the experienced racer should have known it was going to happen, and just be patient and let that person wreck themselves. same thing goes for moving chicanes, just be patient and give people time to react and find a way to pass them clean, chances are that they will take themselves out.
tonythegreaser 03-19-2011, 08:45 AM hey all, new to this site. just wondering if nitros are running at the proving grounds today or not. Is there a calender on here for proving grounds? or other raceways? any info would be apreciated! thanks
Uncle E 03-19-2011, 08:57 AM Yes they are 10am. Elecrtrics at 6pm.
You can grab a schedule off the table when there. What do you want to race and that will help us guide you for scheduling?

the G&G show.
I totally agree with that! right on the money G&G show! :)
We have to stop saying if the driver that is lapping is faster he should be able to make a pass every time... because some of the people getting lapped are simply not predictible because they can't hold their line... So tell me how you never get into trouble? you can't... And that's ok, but like George said, all we ask for when coming onto lap traffic, is a little respect and acknowledgment from the person being lapped that he needs to clearly open a line for the person lapping, because that is what respectful racing is. And believe me if ALL OF US RACE with RESPECT, we will ALL have tons of FUN that night, wining or not... The great thing with respect, it is predictable... And like George said, after you get lapped, try to follow the faster guy, that's how you will get better...
Wouldn't you feel better going home after moving over and let the top 3 racing for the win in an epic and exciting battle, than being the one that screwed up that great battle (whether it's the nats or just a club race)? why would somebody that has nothing to do in that battle be the factor to decide who should win that race?
HAVE FUN RACING today!
See you soon at the track!
tonythegreaser 03-19-2011, 09:50 AM i have a hpi savage 25 monster truck. thanks for the reply

That's it, I'm taking Champ out next time he races! Going to make you earn some respect again brother. Good to have you back out again Mike.
JBlaze, I'm looking forward to a little abuse. After you yell at me can you possibly slap me around a bit to. I think it will really help build charector for me. See you guys Wednesday.
Let's not forget the big picture here either. WEST/east Shootout is coming up April 16th. Time to put some serious track time in so we can send the east siders home crying. Want to talk about hacks, wait till they get here!
