View Full Version : Proving Grounds General Chat
I raced my first race lest night in the 1/8 scale buggy. I was the one with the white buggy. i have never raced before and i'm looking advise on every thing from setup to driving tips. i'm running a rc8 converted to electric with a tekno conversion kit and a mamba monster 2200kv motor and speed control w/ 4s lipos. any help would be GREAT!!
Before setups and other changes will even help, get on the track and turn about a million laps. Only time on the track will help you improve. THEN, when you make changes to setup you will actually notice them.
Kerby 02-13-2011, 12:11 PM I agree. When you can run without being marshalled, you then can start noticing the set-up changes. Tires are your best starting point.

How late do people hang out at proving grounds on friday nights for practice.
We close at midnight, and there is always a group of guys around to help out. But just like Kerby said, get a good set of tires to start with, ask around and someone can help you out with the best choices. Good tires and hours and hours of track time to start is best. Then we can start to watch your driving style and make adjustments to the setup and make changes that will slowly help make you better. Its a process.....but it works.
Kerby 02-13-2011, 01:40 PM Ok guy's the new 4wd SC's will be out soon. Who's getting one and why did you choose a certain brand. I have changed my mind numerous times and cancelled my backorder 3 times......lol. I've decided on the Losi. i like the fact if I run it into a wall the wall breaks not the truck. Thing is built very strong and being based off the Losi 1/8th scale....I'm sold.
2fst2c 02-13-2011, 02:05 PM I'm going with the Durango..Why? Because I like to say Durango! :)
ezracer18 02-13-2011, 02:19 PM well kerby sounds like a good idea for you, but we are going with the associated. after seeing the new losi sc 2wd, I am not impressed at all, plus we have all associated equipment already. the way I see it with the 4x4, you really dont need to go that fast to win, just consistent and steady will get you to the finish line first.
a lot of people are scared of the belt drive system, dont really matter to me, because I have never owned a belt drive truck, so a first for everything here. I guess only time will tell who went the right way, though I do think for sure, there will be a lot jammins and traxxas 4x4's for sale in the near future, really cheap.
see you at washtenaw.
Leonard 02-13-2011, 02:31 PM Had a good time last night. It was a blast bringin the old badit out again. I am probly gonna got with traxxas for 4wd cuz why wouldn't I ? lol
Waters 02-13-2011, 02:54 PM ..........
hyperdesigns 02-13-2011, 03:51 PM weather you go with a ae, losi, jammin or ofna with 4wd they all will have there flaws. really no reason to brand bash. its 90% driver and 10% car. yes setup help but track time counts for more than anything. i am sure ae 4wd will be just as good as the others. i am going with losi for durablity also.
Uncle E 02-13-2011, 06:13 PM If you suck on the track, ask a faster guy to drive your vehicle they'll tell you right away if it's you or the vehicle. They will point you to the guys who know setups.

Thats what I have been doing and it sure does help. Thanks Dave and Caleb and Waters for everything.
bigmike22 02-13-2011, 07:01 PM I also went with the ae 4x4. That thing looks like its a tank. I love the clicker system so you still get the 2wd feel in cornering if you want it. And dont even think about the belt drive system. Alot of the 1/8th scale touring cars are belt drive and they have unlimited traction with 4hp motors behind them and guess what? They dont go thru belts. Nice thing is that if the belt does break the truck still drives just in 2wd. The belt only powers the front axel. Has nothing to do with the rear.
The losi is nice but already owning a jammin and trying to work on it sometimes sucks. What happens when they make a 1/10th scale based on a 1/8th scale? Cramped spaces, not well thought out and difficult to work on some of the simpliest things on the truck. Cant wait. March 11th can not get here soon enough!
Leonard 02-13-2011, 08:37 PM Hey I got an idea. Instead of saying which truck that isn't even released yet is better, lets start a ford/chevy debate. Well I guess that aint much of a debate when everyone knows ford is better !
In case anyone has not seen it yet, here is the MORL schedule for this year.
Schedule for 2011
May 14 – Litchfield
June 11 – Jones
July 16 – Stateline
August 27 – TBA
September 17 – Proving Grounds
October 15 – AMS
October 29 - Banquet

LOSI_Duck 02-13-2011, 09:13 PM What about Dodge:rolleyes:

Please bring out the Losi trucks so I can see how fast they are. I promise I will go slow with the AE so you can keep up and show me how fast it is.
mudge 02-13-2011, 09:43 PM AE, Losi, Traxxas, Durango, Ford, Chevy, Dodge. We all know its just about the fun.
But for the record I pick hot Matchbox. Put one in the hand of my 22 month old son and you will find out the speed of one in a hurry.
Uncle E 02-13-2011, 09:46 PM Stompers they ruled!
Kerby 02-13-2011, 09:49 PM Revo isn't allowed to have an opinion on this subject........he doesn't run SC trucks. So until then he can zip it.......lol........................:)

I'm was quite impressed with how well his losi looked on the track, it real soaks up the bumps. I might just go all losi come spring/summer, with 22 and 4x4 sc coming out.

Foam tires or rubber? I thought the foam ones had more grip
ezracer18 02-14-2011, 03:00 PM scrmngchkn, I was just stating what I have seen at the track. I have yet to see a new losi sc impress me at all. it was the same at ams a few weeks ago. hopefully they will get better, but we will see.
now for trucks, I am a chevy man all the way, but have to admit the ford trucks have the best look. as my buddy would say, the best truck is a ford chassis, with a cummins diesel and an allison tranny, so you can have your cake and eat it too.
hogmansp 02-14-2011, 04:14 PM I think the losi is a good choice of the big 3 new platforms coming out. I am going to run what I have till something proves to be better. Couple of us are thinking about heading up for Saturday Racing. Just wanting to see who all was going to be showing up. Running 2wd mod buggy 2wd mod truck 4x4sc and 2wdsc mod. I know there is a large race elsewhere Saturday and just want to make sure we will have a class to run in before we head out for the 2 1/2 hour ride.

mudge 02-14-2011, 04:55 PM I know for sure 2 of us that run 4x4 sc will be gone but last I knew tazz will be there.

ordered some parts to help dial in the losi. should be even better when i am done.
Leonard 02-14-2011, 06:22 PM I don't know the guys name but he was at PG a few weeks ago when i was there and he was running a losi 4wd sc and it was the smoothest truck on the track and if memory serves he won the main. Any truck in the right hands is capable of winning hence why Im going with traxxas for the win !
Kerby 02-14-2011, 06:45 PM One thing is for sure.............It's all about having fun.

His name I think is David Dunn. He was running a Losi ten conversion. I agree that truck was awesome and yes he is just as awesome of a driver. I think Tazz said it best."4x4 SC is going to have a lot of changes soon."
It doesn't look like Tazz is jumping ship anytime soon but it would be nice to see him get his a@@ kicked once in awhile. LOL.
I just hit my one year mark of racing and I have to say it has been a blast!! What a great group of friends we all have at PG.
Thanks to everyone who has supported me and helped me along the way.
With that being said. As far as the future of Team Mojo Racing. THIS IS ONLY THE BEGINNING..........
LOSI_Duck 02-14-2011, 07:28 PM First On Race Day!
First in Pit Lane? yep totally agree with you sunshine!

Ok I am a Ford man all the way up untill diesels.... then i have to go with Cummins...
And if anybody can make a Traxxas scream, its Lenny.... For some reason that man can make winners out of anything they make.
Uncle E 02-14-2011, 10:23 PM F'd over rebuilt dodge! HELL yeah!

My tt is getting a new setup on it! Just like the fella that had the new t4 setup. Instead of a t4 with a RT5 setup Mine is a tt with a Ten-t setup! Just waiting on an elite motor mount. Should match up with the losi 4x4sc pretty nice!
speeddaddy 02-15-2011, 09:09 AM I'll have to go with Ford also. they won the last 5 championships in Nascar. Jimmy Johnson drives a ford I think?:)
Kerby 02-15-2011, 09:20 AM Chevy
blitZ355 02-15-2011, 09:24 AM when it comes to trucks......chevy is #1! then dodge, then toyota, and theres one more after that ......ohhhhh what is it, its right on the tip of my toungue? .............oh well must not be that good to even make my list!
bigmike22 02-15-2011, 11:19 AM Ill stick with the number one american made, american built truck and thats the ford f 150.
Chevy gets beat out by toyota, honda ridgeline, and nissan titan when it comes to the most american made components and labor!
