hunternaf 05-22-2011, 03:16 PM Is it alright to ask for advice on here or just track talk, I was about to order some bearing to keep in my pit box and have a choice between rubber or metal shielded. Is there a specific application for each like heat needs metal but rubber in better elsewhere? Does one keep dirt out better, easier to clean. Track was great and I will have my stuff repaired by wed and maybe find some traction or back off the timing and gear up a bit
airconde 05-22-2011, 03:22 PM Mike you guys are Racin next sat.Memorial weekend and will you be starting at nomal time 11;00. Cool I'll be there with new radio.

Avid.com. Bearings for a buck each. We've used them as replacements for over five years now with very good success.

Generally metal shield bearing are used for on-road and places that don't see much dirt. Rubber shield bearings are used mainly in off-road applications. Avid bearings are a great choice. 1.00 a pop and if you order 40.00 worth, shipping is free. They also offer a combination bearing which has a metal shield on one side and a rubber on the other. Those are great for in the hub carriers where only 1 side faces the elements. You put the rubber side out and the metal side in and they have a little less drag. Ready Rollers are also great bearings. Same price but no discount on shipping. As far as cleaning goes, the rubber shielded are the easiest in my opinion. But at 1.00 a pop, it's not worth my time to clean them. Between the labor and cost of brake cleaner, cheaper to just pop new ones in.
airconde 05-22-2011, 03:45 PM Rubber doe's help a little bit.But it's Just good practice to clean and inspect every weekend 1/8 scales tend to heat them up alittle moore. 1/8 scale clutch bearings check every 3-4 heats Think about how fast that little clutch bell is spinning. Plus dust carbon alum.dust heat gets end their.iF You ever need somebody to show you how to do a 1/8 clutch come ask.Alot of guys used to like the way I set up my clutch's.
I pesonally like Mugen bearings. And also After a day of real dust or muddy racing one of the best ways to clean your rig is remove radio tray motor spray it down with Simple Green let the dirt get moist get the air hose out spray it off than soak it down with Good ol WD40 repeat if need to spray them hubs arms. let it set over night wipe it down put acoupple drops of oil on those bearings. Odonnell cleaner works good also more expensive. I've done this practice for years it's just a habbit thing racin dirt bikes cars and mud boggin.Fun stuff
Hope this helps
2fst2c 05-22-2011, 03:47 PM Sorry I missed the race yesterday. Had something come up I wasn't planning on. I'll be back soon! :)

This is the best place to get advice! I like the rubber sealed ones from Avid also for outdoors.

+1+1 on the Avid bearings Gary,u can replace all the bearings on your truck for less than $20. metal shielded are ok for tranny but rubber shielded Revolutions are easier to flush out the gunk when u want to clean & lube just use a good bearing lube formulated for RC bearings or they will suck in dirt like hoover vacuum. Avid or Niftech probably the best Pete probably has Niftech or if u go with Avid order lube from them.only need a drop or 2 on each side .
sdtech58 05-23-2011, 04:08 AM Had alot of fun up there guys. First time with the Slash 4x4 on dirt!!! Liked the layout and track conditions. Other than grenading my Nova in 1/8th scale buggy warmup laps, it was a pretty good day!!!
Those engines don't run very well with brass shards all over the place.....
I will be putting in an order real soon...
Thanks for letting me try that back-up motor, Mike. Maybe you'll have better luck with it than I did. Also thanks to the Erdelyi's for helping me out all day with tuning and re-starting my POS.
