View Full Version : Dirt Runners 2010 Outdoor Racing Season - Oak Ridge, NJ
tobamiester 05-03-2010, 04:02 PM I was wondering what are the rules as far as lipos go before I go ahead and get my lipo. Must it be roar approved or is it ok to run a non-roar hardcase lipo?
I also took some pictures from yesturday while I was there if anyone is interested I'll post them up.
Post em! facebook prolly easiest.
ANY hardcase LIPO allowed.
ta_man 05-03-2010, 04:26 PM Anybody come to a conclusion as to whether the BFG tread hard compound tires are better or worse than the original Slash tread hard compound tires for oval or off-road?
Not asking about the BFG tread tires in S1 compound because we can't use those in the spec classes.
tomct992 05-03-2010, 04:28 PM I just added some pictures to the facebook group (pictures 16-33)

I ran them and it was still slick, but I never ran the older ones for a comparison. If I used more than 1/8 throttle in the slash B main it was alot.

I ran the old ones, can't imagine any worse traction. Track was horrid in the A-main. My respect to those drivers who made it through that race. I was literally fried by then and chickened out. :p
With regards to Alvin's comments on watering the track. IMHO, in the qualifiers, we should water between classes, when necessary, not heats. If there are 3 heats of a class, unfortunately the first heat to run gets the best/moist track. But we shouldn't water between or during the class heats.
In the mains, water between classes when possible, and definitely for the A-main of the larger classes.
Again its a fine balance. Yesterday I went down 1 heat before the Sprint main and fueled up/started the pump as I could see it was dry (I don't run Sprint but I know the guys want some traction on the Oval). If we all keep an eye on it, and keep to some basic guidelines as proposed above, and we are proactive enough we can keep the track fairly consistent without slowing the day down anymore. my 2 shillings...

Thanks Toby from a sprint guy:thumbsup:
The only watering issue with me, was watering the offroad while we were getting ready to warm up for an oval class with the hoses on the track. And at times the track is over watered.
But I thank the waterers as I did not pick up a hose yesterday:cool:

hi, stingger here, i for one don't want too be out there watering the track, but i was one of the one's who took the time too water, its not what i wanted too do but if its not done all you would here is complaints about how dry the track is, so stop complaining and deal with it!

I'm not complaining. I got the pump running for your Oval race buddy. Just trying to tune things via open discussion. If you've got nothing constructive to add, then don't bother commenting. You deal with that.

I think this was more of a discussion than a series of complaints.

sounds like you are getting personal, i just made a statement that i would rather be working on my stuff but i took the time to help out, in the way i can, so now i won't delt with!
Lap Traffic 05-03-2010, 08:17 PM Is it too soon to ask..... results?:)
Lap Traffic 05-03-2010, 08:19 PM Hey Steve What happened to your sprinter yesterday?

Stringray, I'm not getting personal, any more than you are stating I am complaining. I am a relative newbie to both RC and Dirtrunners and please don't doubt for a second that I have respect you and many of the long standing members of the club.
I thank you for hosing down the track prior to any of the classes I ran and pls continue to do so, as I will.
Going back to what I was saying, just wanted to discuss watering, per Alvin's original comment. But if everyone is cool with how things were yesterday, thats ok too.
Jerzferno 05-03-2010, 08:38 PM JT - Had a BLAST racing SC mod with you. That was some clean, fender to fender racing. Some of the best I was ever involved in. Hope to do it again sometime? But, that was your dads truck right? Any plans on getting your own?
Jerzferno 05-03-2010, 08:40 PM Hey Steve What happened to your sprinter yesterday?
Dont know for sure yet? Might have shreaded something in the rear? Wouldnt you know it, I had the whoooooooooole car apart over the winter with the exception of the rear. I got what I deserved. Wont be checking for a few days. Its a long way down to the work shop. My knee is absolutely killing me from yesterday.

Same here Bob. It was a long winter without any RC's. Especially with all the snow we had. Most definately will be working on the knee. Its being iced right now.
Jerzferno 05-03-2010, 08:50 PM Wayne, is the order of the classes going to be as is for the season?
Jerzferno 05-03-2010, 08:51 PM What time did the Slash off road A main get started?

That was some great racing and yes it is dads truck. Money is tight for me this year (seems like every year) so if the slayer can't run with ya guys then you'll hopefully see it in front of some truggies.

Tug Speedman 05-03-2010, 09:07 PM Speaking of slayers, Bob what is the starting sytem you use for your revo's?
Lap Traffic 05-03-2010, 09:07 PM Hey JT,

Roto start back plates. I will to see if I have one around. They are real cheap new. Like $12.00.

Lap Traffic 05-03-2010, 09:25 PM I found the one i have but it is an HPI. What motor are you using and what shape is the outside of the one-way bearing?
solographix 05-03-2010, 09:29 PM Nick,
If we adjusted that delay that was causing the improper counting to a higher number, such as like 10 or 15, couldn't we potentially start on the front stretch right before the loop and eliminate the 8-9 second first lap (not an issue for me but apparently for some), and also be able to start in the open spot after the table top to clean up the race starts?
solographix 05-03-2010, 09:32 PM Two quick things to point out from yesterday as we had alot of new people show up which is great, but maybe they don't know all the rules.
1. There was alot of watering during the qualifiers and inbetween heats of the same class. I know it was brought up to me on a couple of occasions and I also hear grumbling about that as I was walking around. I think the best thing is if we see that we just have to tell whomever is doing that to stop and the reason why behind it. Now if your running Offroad and they are watering Oval for the next qualification of heats no biggy.
2. As Chris brought up the softcase lipos. If it's in a class where there are no softcase lipos allowed then whomever saw it should tell that person. If it persist then I guess telling the board would be the next step and let them decide from there?
Alvin, you know my take on the watering. Some who know better were trying to water before their specific heats of certain classes, and some were just newer guys who didn't know.
Last year we had a nice little quick drivers meeting before the first race to just go over the quirks of the rules and race day procedure. It seems there was a lot of new faces and this might not be a bad idea. It may also refresh the rules for those of us who may of forgotten.:p

its an o.s. 18 tm and it uses the traxxas back plate and tra5211r one way bearing (part # is off the top off my head) and is round with two flat sides.
Gary NJ 05-03-2010, 09:38 PM Nick,

The minimum lap should be set so that it's a second or two faster than the fastest lap in a class (you should be able to set it by class if you want, I think). Now that the track has been run it should be no issue to get the minimums right. Running without the minimum set allows people to cut the track without penalty, as well as allowing a feast short first lap.
Tug Speedman 05-03-2010, 09:40 PM I need to get a new job. I googled that part # and was right. Bob, I might sell the late model and get a sprinter just to hassle ya

I will see if Crispy has any in stock. I will more than likely be there tomorrow.
If not, I can always borrow one from my 2.5 Rustler. Either way you'll be good to go. I'll try to get you set up by this weekend.
I have a Roto-Start I will bring with me you can use

Why do you want to? You're a good competitor and clean racer.
Get a damn bumper solution and lower the frustration level!

yeah I know. I smack Derick around yesterday in the main like he was an ex-girlfriend. (handling goes away with not having a front bumper attached)
Tug Speedman 05-03-2010, 10:10 PM Btw I think I handeled it well with the bumper issue. Mark my words though if I break another bumper that car is gonna need a passport for the air time it'll see after it leaves my hands.
