View Full Version : Dirt Runners 2010 Outdoor Racing Season - Oak Ridge, NJ
never-gro-up 12-29-2009, 07:14 PM hi mark, just to say i have a very high opinion of you as i think most of the dirt runner guys do and i hope very much you do the same of me. now i plan on running the 4x4 on the oval if there is a class, but off road as this truck is made for. stingray
Lap Traffic 12-29-2009, 07:14 PM I have some questions (solicitaion of opinions) for the guys getting the Slash 4X4. It seems obvious there will be enough of these for a class of their own. My questions:
a) What do you think this having this class going to do to the Slash Spec entries? Steve & Alvin: are you adding a class, or giving something up to run 4X4?
b) Are people going to get tired of the spec class if/when they find 4WD easier to drive?
c) Anyone likey to run these on the oval?
I think a brushless 4X4 Slash with the current tires would be rough on the oval. From a surface abrasion stand point.
The biggest reason we don't run aggressive tires on the Late Models.
never-gro-up 12-29-2009, 07:33 PM just think 1/8 on the oval- slash 4x4 on oval gas to electric, a big difference, the weight alone,
Lap Traffic 12-29-2009, 07:44 PM Again, that's why we (L8 guys) don't run aggressive tires. To minimize the the surface damage. It matters not to me so long as people actually help maintain it.
radsnappy 12-29-2009, 07:52 PM i would like to try it on
the oval , roadcourse might have two classes spec and mod for platinum edition and other brands?

Maybe running Slash 4X4 on the oval would be restricted to the RTR tires - a spec tire, just the the L8 are using a spec tire. The current RTR tires don't seem to cause a problem on the oval, but then again, the 4X4 will probably be faster.

Steve, you've got your 4X4. How do the weights compare between your E-8, Slash 4X4, Slash 2X4 and your sprint car?

off-road only for me...
this class should be mod no spec..
if there are enough people for oval then so be it..i think the majority of us are gonna run off-road..
Lap Traffic 12-29-2009, 08:01 PM Mark,
what wheels and tires do you run on your sprint car outdoors?

4WD holeshots on the front and Proline buggy step pins on the rear. At least until all my step pins wear out - Proline doesn't make them any more. Sometimes I run ribs on the front and sometimes different 4WD offroad buggy fronts.

a) I have so many RC cars now that I have to choose what to run each week. I only have 3 PT's so 3 classes each week for me............possibly a 4th? I will run the 4x4 Slash every week. Im going to switch each week between Slash 2wd and 1/10th scale buggy. I will also alternate between sprint and EDM. Although EDM seems to be hit or miss, I may concentrate on the sprint. The E/8 is going to be benched. It may make an appearance or two, but all the others Im putting ahead of it. This all may change depending on how I am doing. The 4x4 Slash will race every week regardless. If Im doing better in Slash 2wd, then the 1/10th buggy may sit more or visa versa.
b) I dont think so. Alvin, Tobey and I are still planning on running ours. I think the Slash spec class is strong and will survive. Even if there is a mod class. I think we will see others like the Strike, SC10, and Blitz come out of the wood work. The price of the 4x4 is twice the 2wd slash. I dont see it going to 3 heats like the spec Slash. But ya never know? Its Dirt Runners!
c) With a sprint car and EDM available, I dont plan on running my 4x4 on the oval. With Dan, Bob, and Adam coming into sprints this coming season, Im looking forward to a lot of sprint car fun.

Mark - Funny you should ask that. Alvins Platinum Slash is due in tomorrow or Thursday. I wanted to get a weight comparison between the Platinum and RTR. I will add the other cars you requested and let you know all the weights.

A. I will still be running the 2wd Slash Spec class. If not me my son will be.
B. Maybe but as steve eluded too 2wd Slash spec class is just cheap to get into and so much fun.
C. I won't run oval. I can't turn left. :) Turn 3 and me don't go well together. :)
GeorgeW 12-30-2009, 12:56 AM 1 novice
2 truck off-road
3 open monster
4 buggy off-road
5 slash oval
6 rustler spec
7 1/8 scale
8 sprint car
9 e.d.m.
10 slash off-road
11 e-1/8 scale
12 late models
13 4x4 slash off-road
14 4x4 slash oval
15 mod sc 2wd
I just wanted to get a proper list of possible classes we would be running outdoors this coming season. Have I missed any classes? The more feedback, of what people will be running or would like to run will help us prepare for the upcoming season. Charlie
ta_man 12-30-2009, 08:17 AM How about 1/10th scale 4WD buggy? Mini Off-Road might show up too.
rcworkshopp 12-30-2009, 09:34 AM I have a question about SC trucks. I see Traxxas sells the sway-bar set up. Wont that limit the chassis roll? I thought with the SC trucks you want the body roll as that's part of the trucks style.
radsnappy 12-30-2009, 09:38 AM hey steve , i tried the panther goosebumps on the rear and front , tim was using them also ,seemed to have decent grip , gonna start with them on the new outlaw:wave:

Duck395 12-30-2009, 11:14 AM My 2pence worth:
a) I expect there maybe less entries in Spec 2wd Slash, esp if we add a mod SC 2wd class.
b) I plan on running Spec Slash 2WD offroad-course all season
c) No Oval for me (2WD Spec Slash or 4WD Slash/Open SC)
me and little duck plan on running spec slash as well as 4x4.
if we run a mod 2wd short course i might be interested in 3 classes . lol
i think the short course racing is just great.
i also think that 2wd mod will give people (even possibly new people)who have a blitz or a strike or kyosho sc a chance to race. just my opinion for what its worth.

with all that being said im gonna have to look into getting pt's!
GeorgeW 12-30-2009, 11:22 AM I didn't list 4wd buggy and mini off-road only because of lack of interest last year. These two classes ran four times last year as a combo only. I would love to see more interest in these classes as they have been popular in the past

Ray I have a set of the rears. I had lots of trouble spinning out. I guess if I had proper fronts to go with those, I would have done better. They did seem to have good bite for sprint cars.

Howie - Before you go buying PT's at $100+ each. Contact IronmanMark.com (ie. ta-man) He can advise you on how to save a lot of money on PT's. Helped a bunch of us out last year.

Steve, I think JT has a 4WD 1/10 Buggy rather than 4WD SLash, I maybe mistaken.
solographix 12-30-2009, 03:18 PM Steve, I think JT has a 4WD 1/10 Buggy rather than 4WD SLash, I maybe mistaken.

solographix 12-30-2009, 03:19 PM Steve,
I been busy at work & home, I will get you a PM in the next couple days.
tobamiester 12-30-2009, 03:21 PM I thought so.
Anyways. Charlie , we will should definitely see a resurgence of the 4WD 1/10 Buggy Class (with mini's running by themselves).
I know a few folks who are getting them. I have a NIB B44 on my workbench ready for next season.

ta_man 12-30-2009, 07:31 PM Anyone going to bring a Slash 4X4 to the next indoor race?
Will they be too fast for carpet?
GeorgeW 12-30-2009, 08:51 PM How about 1/8 scale, this class could be thinning.
TamiyaKing 12-30-2009, 08:53 PM How far is oak ridge from edison? we got nothing over here for racing.:)
rcworkshopp 12-30-2009, 09:27 PM 30-45 min.

I know one guy joining the club and running 1/8 buggy electric. Another one nitro but not sure how many he would race. Myself going to try electric buggy.
