How long you guys planning to hang around?

Thanks Dan for all your help with N21 and your advice. Gonna hold off on running it until I can get up to the track and we can work on it together. In the meantime I might get that OS running again so I can at least tinker around with it. See you in a week or two.

Well Alvin and I just got back and had a blast today at the track. Its in surprisingly good shape. The oval is washed out on the curves as Dan said, but the off road was in really good shape. Man those Slash 4x4's are going to put up some really fast laps. Alvin and I were duking it out. My Slash against his E/8. Theres yet another Slash 4x4 to add to the class. Thats makes 14. I dont remember his name? He doesnt come on this thread, so he isnt included in the truck count. He normally races 1/8th scale. When hes not raincg, he usually shows on a dirt bike or quad. So hes number 14. THere were a few people there when we got there. 4 guys that dont race, Me Alvin, the other guy (Sorry dont know his name), and Daz showed about 1/2 hour before we left. So a great day. No furry black creature sightings, but he did leave his mark by the turn 4 fence if you know what I mean.

Welcome to the club. What class(es) are you going to run out doors?

The Slash 4x4 is an absolute blast. Steve and I were going at it pretty hard and they are very durable. Offroad track was an excellent condition like Steve said.

How much dirt we bring in cause the pile we had is like non existant. We are going to need alot of dirt.

Make it 16 Slash 4x4's Garret here from PA. My buddy Dave also got one. I'll be bouncing around between Dirtrunners and Station2. Can't wait, the Slash 4x4 clash should be awesome!!!

Welcome to DR. If you liked indoors, you'll love outdoor. A new kind of madness.

Make sure you have a table and some sort of pop-up for shade. You can get cooked in the sun all day.

Hey jerz, I saw your post that a few of you guys were going to the track today, I was getting my stuff together and went into my office and stepped in a puddle, water cooler bottle had a crack and a full bottle emptied over night!! Maybe next week if the weather stays nice. The Slash 4x4 is a blast, I can't wait to try it outdoors.

Yea we had a blast. People are going to get tired of hearing me say this, but the 4x4 is really fun. A short course truck, 4 wheel drive, with 1/8th scale power. Nice. I dont know if I will make it again before opening day. Ill be there for as many work days as I can. But who knows? I hope your water leak didnt cause any damage?

The only bad thing is the Slash 4x4 needs stronger axles, I broke one in the rear the first race and after a long race day last sunday I now have 2 bent in the rear and 1 in the front! I picked up some stock Traxxas axles for now but I am considering the FLM or Tekno axles. I hope to have this resolved before the season starts.

Now I dont get that? We raced ours HARD today. I hit the wall a few times. Alvin got his stopped short by getting his caught on one of the pipe battier nails. The other one there the guy said he beat the tar out of his all winter long doing Banzai jumps with his. All three of us flipped and landed on one wheel or another going over the double all day long. Today we bent nothing and the other said he broke nothing on his ever. I heard a lot about this and was concerned. After today im not worried about it. You know you can write Traxxas and I think they will send you new axles. Ive read that on their forum and have contacted them myself to see for myself. Thats what they told me too.

FYI, I stopped by Zeppelin and they have most of the Slash 4x4 parts in stock if anyone needs anything. I picked up some extra axles and a bunch of spare parts to keep on hand.

I hate to make a self-serving crosspost here, but I have my RC8E up for sale if anybody's interested in joining the electric 1/8th scale class. Here's the link:

Of course, if any DR folks are interested, the savings of not dealing with shipping and paypal would be reflected in the price;).

Maybe, maybe not. If it doesn't sell soon at a reasonable price, I'll probably just pick up some new tires and run it a few more times before I "retire" from the outdoor season for the year sometime in July/August. We'll see.

Bob and Adam asked me about the gearing for my Sprint car so I checked it and my recollection was correct: I'm running 17:87 with a 2.65:1 transmission. That is a final drive ratio of 13.5:1 with the 6900KV Castle motor.

Novak's gearing chart for their motors recommends a FDR of 10.0:1 for the 6.5 when run in a 2WD buggy (with buggy size tires). They don't say if that is for an off-road track with lots of corners and short straights or for an Oval with 100 ft straights. (But it is probably not the oval.)

The Novak 6.5 is rated at 6400KV. So I'm running an 8% higher KV motor with a 35% higher FDR. This may imply those two motors are not really comparable and my gearing info is not going to be useful for you. But I figured I'd tell you what it was anyway. If nothing else, it is probably a safe starting point for those running the 6.5 Novak.

Well, that's when my parenting workload is due to double.:hat: I expect I'll be too busy to race for at least a month, then by the time the challenge rolls around, I'll be chomping at the bit to get out of the house for a day of racing so I don't go crazy...
