The track is a 1/10th to 1/8th. It not as big as some other 1/8th tracks though. The surface of the track is hard packed clay. We run mostly AKA city blocks on 1/8th and hole shots for 1/10th. As describing the lay out that changes every winter so not sure what it will look like as of now, but if I go down saturday to the shop i'll take some pic's!

Randy, that was the track Steve and I were going to try to get a group of us to go to. Just never happened due to the rainout issues we had this year. We should try to hit it this year. I know Paul was interested in going as well.

We should do that! At least they are closer to me. It all depends on what days I am working this year since our shop is open on weekends. If I have to I can use my personal and sick days. So that gives me 12 racing days. LOL

Now that's what I call the proper use of time off

Mark - I have a brushless question for you. The Traxxas brushless system in the 4x4 Slash says its 3500 KV. How does that compare to a Novak motor? Im used to seeing 7.5, 8.5, 17.5. What does this 3500KV compare to? Heres is why I am asking. I just took the 4x4 out for a test spin. Ran it up and down the driveway a few times to get used to it. Each time going a little faster. Was heading up the driveway about half throttle, then punched it. The truck broke all 4 tires loose and spun out. My opinion is this thing is WAAAAAAAAAAY over powered. I could not run any speed runs at full throttle under any type of control. Was just wondering where this Velineon rates with the numbering system Im accustomed to? To be competetive, this truck is going to require some serious throttle control.

The Velineon is a 10 turn motor but it doesn't compare to Novak motors of equivalent turns because it is a different design. The VXL has a larger diameter rotor which gives it more torque and it is coreless/unslotted so there is more room for copper wire in the can thus giving it lower resistance and inductance (and thus higher power output limits) compared to a 10 (or so) turn Novak motor.

KV comparisons are only useful between motors of identical design. You wouldn't by any stretch of the imagination consider a Neu 1512 2.5D (or a Tekin T8 2.5D) motor that has a KV of 2050 less powerful than a Novak 17.5 with a KV of 2200. The Neu/Tekin can push a 1/8th scale buggy from 0-40MPH in a few seconds. The 17.5 Novak would explode if it attempted the same feat. Sure the Neu/Tekin are bigger than the Novak, but size matters on the inside too, and that is where the VXL is different from the Novaks.

Two issues with the test you just did: a) The standard Slash tires are kind of hard and don't get a lot of traction to begin with (this is where purchasers of the PE may have an advantage with the S1 tires). b) You live in New Jersey and it is cold here right now, further decreasing traction.

The 2WD slash already requires serious throttle control, so it would not be surprising that the 4WD would too. But put some good tires on it and it will be a whole 'nother matter.

I don't know what you guys are planning but I can't see the 4WD class for a truck that has power like that making sense as a spec class. People are going to want better tires on this to make it drivable. I know some people hate the 1/8th scale tires on these trucks, but AKA has some very nice wheels made to look right on the SC trucks.

Thanks Mark. Im envisioning an open class. I would like other manufacturers trucks to be able to race in this class. So no spec class is my vote. I would like them to remain as realistic looking as possible. Thats the appeal these trucks have for me. All the other classes I race are fun, with the exception of sprint car and EDM, where have you ever seen any thing like E8, 1/10th scale buggy etc race in real life? I like the Slash/sprint/EDM/Late Models because you can turn on the tube and see them race. Theres several after market tires and rims made specificaaly for SC trucks. They would be allowed as far as im concerned. I already have J Concepts Goose Bumps and their Rulux SC rims for the Slashes. Thats my 2 cents on this. Yes the tires with the rtr slash are very hard. Agreed. Even before I took it out in the cold. So they will not be that good on our track. But who knows, with the right application of throttle in the right places?

Nice Mate...I'm green with envy :) But very excited to be running with you next Season! Waiting for my bling'd up Plat (eta next week) :)

My darn Tivo decided it had no room for my Late Model / Traxxas SC races i recorded on the SpeedHD/ABC channels, and deleted them all and replaced them with Spongebob and iCarly (that the kids programmed)...grhhhh

...However, I just added a 1TB drive to my TivoHD so now I got 166hours of high Def or 1444hours of Std Def TV...sorted :)

Absolutely. The Torc and Lucas Oil SC racing season is done, but I'm sure they'll repeat stuff.
Actually it was you Steve who turned me onto the Speed channel and the various things on there.
Since getting into this hobby, I find watching motor sports very therapeutic  (a slight substitute for RC racing when rained or snowed out :( )..

I've even started to enjoy Nascar (which would make sense with my recent interest in Oval) ... :) I was always a bit on an F1 snob back in the UK..haha

I hear ya Tobey. My love for dirt track racing dates back to the 70's when my dad and I would go to the used to be Flemington Fair speedway now turned into Lowes/Walmart every saturday night to see modifieds and sprint cars. Then it was on the East Windsor, which is now torn down. Then on to New Egypt speedway which is hanging in there. Maybe a Dirt Runners road trip to a real dirt track on an off weekend? Would be fun!! New Egypt in down by Trax 70 (RC Track). We can hit Big Diamond in Pa almost due West of Dirt Runners.

And he brought you one, for 2009. You were first, beating 0 people.

But for 2010, you are going to have to work for it yourself! And there are, by your count, 9 others wanting to put you a lap down each race.

Why rules? I would only want one if I could go wild with it.

This reminds me of E-8. People wanted rules on the motors/batteries. Like limiting them to 4S. But it doesn't make any difference. You can't go any faster around the track on 6S than on 4S because the tires are the limiting factor. So what if someone put a MMM with a 4S battery in their Slash 4X4? Their lap times will suffer more from the greater weight and wheelspin than they will benefit from the increased speed. Let them do it.

Just an FYI. After market rims for the 2wd Slash fit on the 4x4 Slash. Was hoping Traxxas didnt make that impossible? From pictures of the 4x4 that I saw, the front suspension looked taller than the 2wd, even the Salyer for that matter. At least to me it did. They did it right. The J Concepts Rulux rims and Goose Bumps tires fit perfectly on the 4x4.

That long discussion was about the 2WD mod SCTs. Now we are talking about 4WD.

Even if I'm not running the class, I think it is worth some discussion before the rules meeting so that we know what people are thinking and what to propose as far as rules (or lack of same). Whether it belongs in this thread or elsewhere is a separate question.
