Hey gents,
so the build continues. Got my wheels today, so i got to see how the ride height looks etc. I've done it all with the droop screws for now but will likely put in the limiters (ie. fuel pipe) in the shocks as Dan suggested.

I've attached some pics of the body sitting on the car where I think it should be mounted, but need some guidance from you gents; too forward, too far back, just right ?

Still need to pick up a brake/throttle Servo. If anyone has any for sale, I'm looking for something about 150oz .10s@6v.

Thanks Bob and Dan for your help so far. Looking forward to getting this beast dirty.

Oh yeah. Being the impatient sort that I am, I ended up drilling the rear tower so I could attach the rear mounts. Still would like to see pictures of Bob/Dan's Onstat mounted rear bumper.

You want the line that comes down from the batwing to line up with the center of the the wheel nut . You are very close so you could leave it where it is . Bumpers and mounts look really good . Very professional . Just like it came from the factory good job :cool:

I'll bring my car Saturday so you can see the onstat bumper .

Looking really good Toby:thumbsup:

I believe to use the Onstat bumper, you will need to make a mount. Onstat also makes them. You can't make the bumper mountings any narrower as it is supplied. The mount width is dictated by the bumper uprights.

I will try to get mine mounted on the new car tonight and shoot some pictures.

Toby,

Here are some Onstat Bumper pics on my new chassis because it's clean.

The width and length are indicated by the machinist's ruler in mm. The rear body mount is not screwed in place yet, but that is how it mounts. You have some fore/aft leah way with it.

The white bumper is last year's car showing why you need it. AKA Dan damage:jest:

If you need any others, let me know.

Awesome Bob. thanks. Yeah I recall last year seeing a few cases where a couple of cars got tangled up due to a rear-end impact.

I like it in Black. The bumpers on the Onstat website I looked at ( http://www.onstatcomputers.com/shopoval.htm#oc-lmb3) show rounded edges on the bumper material, but the bumpers on your car look squared. Did you get yours from a different source ?

thanks man.

He has discontinued making them with squared edges. I believe someone copied them. I may have gotten the last few he had of the old type.

I just checked the site. They are still listed under 2010 closeout. Black only.

There are also $10 cheaper than the new one.

I ran two last year and only the one failed. Got backed into the wall too many times.:cool:

Yeah, I like the price :)

I got a starter box yesterday, and a great deal on a 4s Lipo for it. Gradually getting all the pieces to the puzzle.
As far as Glow plugs, I presume it makes sense to have a few spares on hand. Any specific brands worth getting ? Or stick with the same brand as the engine ?
Also, any recommendations on Glow Starters ?
Last question, do you guys run a specific fuel for LM ? or do you all have your own preferences ?
Thanks guys.

Fuel: I run only Odonnel's. I use 20% and Dan runs their 30%. Glow drivers:make sure you get a long one. You have to go all the way through the roof. Some twist and lock on the Glow plug, others have a release.

One with a meter might be helpful, but I don't use them.

Toby - Choice of glow plugs is dictated by the engine you use. You will need spares - glow plugs are a consumable.

Fuel - somewhat dictated by what you can find where you shop - fuel is the one thing you are going to want to buy cross country - freight will kill you. I've been very happy with EB Mods fuel. Ed Bridges is one of the smartest motor guys around, and his fuel reflects that.

Fuel is a preference thing . I have used O Donnells fuel forever and wouldnt use anything else ( because I have had good luck with it) . Just make sure whatever you use store it in a cool dry place and keep it off the floor.

Thanks Bob, Dan and Gary.

Yeah Bob, I was wondering about how the body would have to be cut out for access. That's good info - re :get a long glow starter.

Thanks Dan for the info on storage. Thats good to know. I got similar advice from a guy up at Station2 on how to store my 12v track battery, i.e keep it off the ground.

Tobey, as for fuel, buy what you can locally and stick with it. Most fuels are good. Stay away from Blue Thunder and Traxxas. I used Trinity Platinum and it was good. The fuel was discontinued where I bought it and did not want to buy it from a long distance, and comitted to buying a 4 gallon case. I switched to Byrons Gen 2 25% and never looked back. Was the best fuel I ever used.

I had asked my wife to get it for me for Valentine's day but no luck. :( So you guys might have better luck then I did. :)

When we had the rules meeting we talked about Life battery packs and hard case Lipos. I can't seem to remember the new rules. We can use any brand Lipo battery as long as its hard case. Right? What about voltage. Do we still have to stick with the 7.4 volt in all 1/10 classes? What about the Slash 4x4 is the battery open just for that truck? Again I can't seem to remember what the new rules are.

Thanks

Yes any hard cases lipo can be used at DR.
No changes to any existing classes, i.e still gotta run 2s in 1/10.
4x4 is open.

The difference in voltages came in with the LiFe's - we decided that you could run the same number of cells as was allowed with LiPo's. E.G. if the class allows a 2S LiPo, you can run a 2-cell LiFe (3.3V nominal per cell vs the 3.7 of the LiPo's).

Well I didn't want a whole day to go by without somebody posting something. I'm in balmy Minneapolis for 3 days on business..24F high, 11 low. Just like home pretty much. :) Being away hasn't kept me from surfing and buying crap on rctech.

Doesn't seem to be any decent hobby stores around here to go loiter in...ah well, back to watching Nascar, ordering room service and unloading the mini-bar :p

Dump EDM. Looks like it will be hit or miss running that class this year. Run something that will have the numbers to run EVERY week. I have more cars now than I have time to prep and run too. So if one has to sit, its going to be the EDM.

So any new Slash 4x4's for this coming season?
Maybe. With my limited resources, I'm not sure I want to campaign my E-8 buggy again this year. It was a real hassle getting both batteries freshly charged and balanced in that car between the heats and the mains, and then worrying about getting my other batteries charged on a separate charger, all without any 12v power source other than the battery in my car. The newly available 4S hardcase packs look nice but I can almost get another car running for the same cash outlay, so......I've got my eye on a few deals, but I need to sell the RC8 chassis or the Mini Slash VXL at least to make it happen...btw, anybody need a 21.5 motor? I've got an ad up in the swap/sell section.;)

I hear ya Matt. I was getting a bit frustrated with the whole E/8 thing too. I ran 2 batteries as well so I know what you mean. I can run a heat and main in all my other classes without charging. I had to recharge the E/8 batts for every run. It required a lot of attention in between heats/races too. Dont seem to be spending much time at all on my other vehicles? Maybe thats just me? Plus I wasnt happy with the problems I encountered with my electronics, smoked ESC, unglued rotor, and towards the end of the season the ESC was acting up again. Seems like its on the same track to smoking again? I dont like the class enough to invest a few hundred for a new electronics system, so it's been shelved for other endeavors.

I know most guys don't seem to like them (Brian Carey is especially against single 4S packs for E8) but I found my 4S hard case Fantoms to work very well and be very convenient. ProMatch has a 4S hard case battery for $160 with free shipping. The only downside I see is that you can't use the pack in anything else.

I understand that some people have had problems with the Novak HV ESC. I wonder if a Mamba Max Pro would run a Novak HV motor on 4S without overheating?

I hear you, Mark. I like the Promatch packs and I don't think the 4S pack price is bad at all. I hope that tip can help out some of they guys who are unsure what to do about batteries for this class.

But for me, it's going to be a busy and expensive year between wife needing a new car, daycare costs, scheduled home improvements and so on, so I'm very limited in what I can spend. So for me, a new chassis to use my existing electronics and maybe eliminate some hassle at the same price as those batteries may be a better deal. Plus, I spent most of last season just figuring out what WORKS on our track in 1/8th buggies as far as setup. My tuning skills are limited:p, so the relatively simple 1/10 stuff may be a better match for me.

I'd be curious to see whether the MM Pro / Novak HV combo would work as well. I was about to offer my ESC for testing purposes and realized we're talking about the new one, not the MMM, duh:(.

I was thinking my EDM would sit out but I will bring it with just in case. As for the 5 others:

1/10 2wd Buggy, I like this class and I want to get better at driving this class.

1/10 4wd Buggy, I want to at least run this year since I bought it this year.

Sprint, I will always run this.

1/8 E8 Buggy, Just bought a new Mamba Monster system so want to try this class.

Slash 4x4, Again just bought it this year so I was thinking of racing it.

My 2wd Slash a friend of mine will be racing it.

It also depends on who is racing what. There might not be enough cars to run in a class like EDM.
