Well its not Offroad, but its insane, so figured I would post it here

Been working on my buddies GT2 eConversion. This thing is insane. 1/8 scale insanity...Only spun it up on my workbench but it was scary as hell...

It has a Mamba 2650kv with a 6cell LIPO, geared apparently for 170mph according to RC-Monster!!!!!

Personally I think it will self destruct before it gets anywhere near that speed, if its even drivable....gonna be fun trying...:freak:

Be sure to post a picture of the two speed gearbox after it makes its first few shifts under full power... :drunk:

Was gonna say the same thing. also AKA Cityblocks or Pro-line Revolvers.

I tried City Blocks. Was like skating on ice for me. My favorite tire is anything J Concepts!! If anybody likes City Blocks and wants a set only used once, make me an offer. Mounted on White Dish Rims.

Nick,

What are the current lane widths? Also, I know there is a safety concern with jumps being too large, what would you venture to guess is a safe height 18"?

I wouldn't go any narrower than 10' lanes, we used to go 8' when we ran mostly electric - I believe the current layout is 12' lanes.

I still heard people complaining the lanes weren't wide enough ....

Usually as far as jumps go, we will decide on the first track day a layout (minus jumps). Then on another work day when we start making jumps, we decide at that time placement, size and type (it keeps people coming back :) ). I would say as a rule of thumb, jumps on the far side of the track need to be on the smaller side (think our triples) and I would say to stay away from big things like table tops etc on the back stretch as well. The rest of the layout is really open to imagination, as long as they can be used by vehicles from minis to 1/8th scales.

What does everyone think about grooming the offroad? We spend a lot of time dragging, then pulling the grate, then rolling it. Its not a road course, its an offroad track. Let the bumps, divots and ruts develop. That's what its all about. Come next race day, we repair the blow outs, scratch up the surface a bit with rakes then its off to the races. I think we spend too much time making the off road track smooth. It doesnt need to be that way. We might not burn out the track crew as much or as fast if we just touch up the off road, drag and roll the oval, then race race race.

I know that Tim had worked pretty hard at getting the offroad track smooth because that is the way he preferred it. With all the time and work he puts into track maintenance during the week, it's only fair that it became a track more suited to his liking.

Station 2 is more of a bumpy less groomed offroad track. Both had their distinct characteristics and I enjoyed racing both, its personal preference.

That would work fine if we were only running one size of vehicle, such that, 1/10th scale buggies and trucks only had to contend with the damage introduced by 1/10th scale buggies and trucks. But the 1/8th scales do so much damage to the track that it becomes difficult to navigate with the 1/10th scale vehicles, or even Slashes (not to mention minis if they show up).

I like to practice and my experience was that once the 1/8th scales ran on the track, practice with a 1/10th scale was kind of meaningless because you were trying to drive around the damage instead of driving around the track.

My opion has always been that offroad tracks are organic they change as they go . I believe that offroad is suppose to be offroad not onroad with jumps . Bumps , jumps , and ruts are the same for everyone . The track should be allowed to evolve on its own . If it gets blown out then you repair it . Tim spent the time prepping the track to his liking and that is why it was the way it was . JMO

i agree to an extent, we cant let the holes get too big that they swallow up the smaller cars.JMO

I agree with this. That's the whole point of offroad. :)

Also why not look into changing the off-road to some type of. land-fill or loamy soil, most places wont charge for land-fill just delivery I'm just saying it will save the club money.....

The two tracks need to be of the same material. The larger off road cars sling dirt onto the oval and mother nature brings the oval onto the off road track.

So you are suggesting we get rid of 1/8th scale? I agree. IM JUST KIDDING. I definately agree with you Mark that the track needs to be groomed because 1/10th scale cars and trucks can get swallowed up. Im not suggesting we neglect the off road track. We just dont need to spend hours on it ever time. Fix the blow outs and deeper stuff. I like the way Dano put it, The offroad track should evolve. Just trying to put some time saving initiative into our long day. Everyone who preps the track complains, myslef included, that the same guys do the work each week. Maybe we can cut down on some prep time?

Yes he did put a lot of time and effort into track prep, and I do appreciate that, but that was his choice. The jumps, drop offs, and table top got ground down to almost nothing. They needed to be fixed also.

I didnt have the opportunity to run Station 2 last year. I look forward to getting there this year.

Wait until those 4x4 Slashes start slinging dirt. Yea gotta go with Wayne on that one. You dont see it because the tracks are of the same material. But if they werent, you'd see lots of dirt spray all over the oval.

I think they will surprise a lot of people..............including myself. LOL I have been PM'ing with a guy from California. They have been racing. They are turning laps just about as fast as 1/10th scale 4x4 buggies according to him. Of course this is hear-say, but thats what he is claiming. So we shall see. Im pretty impressed with its straightline speed. Get it to hook up on the dirt, should be fun.

Well, Tomorrow is Lucas's Pack Pinewood Derby. We are Overall winners in the Pack, the last 2 years in a row, so I swore I was not gonna win this year. I even had a workshop to show everyone how to build a winning car, using all techniques I used to build a winning car (which I read from a $12 book :freak:) . So I hope this car don't win.

I did however stumble on the idea of building a Late Model car when we were at the Rules meeting. So here is what I did. The paint didn't come out as I had liked, due to the fact I used Tamiya Lexan paint (duh)..but its the standard tobamiester metallic blue...

Nah, I added some cut-offs from another block, to make the wheel-archs and extend the body outwards. The wheelbase, width and length remain BSA 'spec'.
