View Full Version : Dirt Runners 2010 Outdoor Racing Season - Oak Ridge, NJ
rcworkshopp 01-16-2010, 07:59 PM Sounds good Ray. What are ya running besides Sprint? Looks like EDM may be iffy? Though it did look strong at the end of the season. Plus Stinger and I are joining the class this year.
You can count me in on EDM and Sprint with out question. I wont be racing spec Slash but will run Slash 4x4. I will also run 2wd buggy and 4wd buggy if there are enough people for that class.
tobamiester 01-16-2010, 08:04 PM Short Course trucks on Speed right now.
Yeah, i just turned on Speed and was pleasantly surprised (after watching 500 episodes of Spongebob today ::freak:

Better off running Slash spec. Its going to get blown away by the 4x4's.
spikeitaudi 01-17-2010, 09:56 AM Toby,
You hear from your fellow Brit Artik lately? Is he racing outdoors this season? Saw his truggy up for sale alittle bit ago.
tobamiester 01-17-2010, 10:08 AM Toby,

Yes Sir. He's doing good. Just spoke to him last week. He's busy with his Crawlers and writing articles for a few mags. Yup, he'll be back for Outdoor season running Truggy and Buggy, and maybe even 1/10 Buggy 4WD he said.
spikeitaudi 01-17-2010, 10:14 AM Cool I know he was on but he doesn't like to talk to us. You hear that Chris. :):)
ta_man 01-17-2010, 10:26 AM looks like rustler spec is fading out
That's just sad... :(:(:(
What's left on Oval? Sprint, Slash Spec, EDM, Nitro LM
And we are not even sure about EDM, though if there is no Rustler class, I might run EDM.
At least I can run my Mod Oval Truck at Station2.
tobamiester 01-17-2010, 10:29 AM I finally got to give the 4x4 PE a good run out today. Man it flys!!! Plenty of power with just a 2s. Stable too at top speed. I even got it to wheelie twice!
Hope to get another run today and drop that center diff in there.
Waiting for my decals to come in from the UK and hope to get the Desert Rat ready for next weekend.

Yeah I was thinking. Maybe we'll see a resurgence of Mod Truck Oval? Rustlers (12T or VXL's etc. ) could run with them right ?

Maybe im wrong but I seem to remember almost a full heat each time?
Jerzferno 01-17-2010, 11:29 AM Please post some chit chat here after the rules meeting. I wont be going.
Jerzferno 01-17-2010, 11:31 AM Mark I think EDM will survive. There were 5 consistent entries as far as I remember? Add me and Stingray this year, and possibly you would make for a solid field of entries.

They could, but the Rustlers wouldn't be on the top of the heap.
Should we just let Rustler Spec die a peaceful death (replaced by Slash Spec Oval), or think about alternatives to resurrect it?
spikeitaudi 01-17-2010, 12:52 PM Have a good rules meeting. I won't be attending.

If thats what it takes to help you from going down more than one lap to me, go for it. If you want your short course truck to look like in aluminium hopped Monster Truck wannabe, be my guest. LOL

-We agreed to allow LIFO/123 batteries.
-Agreed Sprint indoor rules same as outside
Except you can run direct drive.
Now we're stuck on the ESC (Tekin,Mamba Pro) issue.

Unless they start coming that way out of the box. Then the rule will be revisited.

Whats the Tekin Mamba pro issue? Im not familiar with either except that I know they exist? Those offer better performance than the rest?

Anything finalized?

Yea if they come RTR then they are ok right? Out of the box. I dont think there would be much of an advantage if any? I checked Alvins PE tires. They are rock hard like my RTR. Didnt see any real significant difference.
ta_man 01-17-2010, 06:10 PM Anything finalized?
Yes, Any hard case LiPos are allowed - no longer have to be ROAR approved.

I felt the S1 compound tires on Toby's PE and I thought they were a lot softer than my Slash 2WD tires.

Think about the Slash tire issue for a moment.
When the Slash first came out, the tires were 2.2" bead inside and out. Then Traxxas came out with the Slayer and had to make the inner bead 3" to clear the Revo style suspension. To avoid needing to stock two different tires, Traxxas quickly discontinued the original Slash tire.
Flash forward 2 years:
They've come out with a new compound Slash tire. The new compound is the same price as the original compund tire (At least where I have looked).
Will Traxxas get any benefit from continuing to make and stock the two different compounds? Or will they get greater benefit (less inventory complexity) from discontinuing the old compound and only making the new compound?
And if they only make the new compound they will put it on new RTRs. If it is better, won't they get additional benefit (sales) from people who have the older tires and feel they need to upgrade their tires to be competitive?

Absolutely Mark. They will follow the trend. The existing 2.2/3.0 tires will most likely be phased out as were the 2.2/2.2 tires. Me personally............I like the 2.2/2.2 tires better. Even side walls. Feel better for my liking. Plus mine are so worn they are working better than when they were new.

Softer then the 2wd Slash tires yes. Softer than the 4x4 RTR tires? Not to me they arent. Dont know the specifics of the RTR 4x4 tires as far as compound goes. They have a different tread design as compared to the 2wd Slash tires thats for sure. Man this is getting confusing? RTR, you mean the 2wd? No the 4x4. How about the PE? Too many Slashes now. LOL
Jerzferno 01-17-2010, 07:10 PM What was the turn out like?

Maybe they have already gone to the S1 compound on all the 4X4s
What was the turn out like?
Seemed pretty good, though I didn't count.
Wasn't anywhere near as contentious as some people thought it would be.
SCT mod rules were not decided upon - Nick said the people who want to run the class should formulate them and agree on them and submit them to the board, at which point they will be adopted. (At least that was my impression of what Nick said.)
Certain issues were discussed and the consensus was no 1/8th scale tires, open motors & batteries.
solographix 01-17-2010, 07:32 PM What was the turn out like?
Probably one of the largest in a long time.

Thats pretty funny. I opened a new thread for SC Mod rules............about the time indoor season started. I got wacked for it. Said it wasnt necessary. I was all for it until the Slash 4x4 came out. Had rules all written up. You know what im talking about. You took part in the discussion. Oh well. It wont be long now until We start outdoors. Anything mentioned about changing the track? I know we handle that decision on work day #1. Just wondering?
tobamiester 01-17-2010, 07:41 PM Probably one of the largest in a long time.
yeah my first meeting, but from Wayne said, it was a great turn out.
tobamiester 01-17-2010, 07:56 PM So, my choices: Losi L8ight, OFNA, Custom Works Rocket.
Sure I'm going to open up a can of worms but pros/cons etc for my inquiring mind ? :freak: Not thinking about engines yet.
Also, where was that post for the LM rules on HT ?
Thanks guys.

The Rocket is 1/10 scale and rear wheel drive.
I'm an OFNA guy. So you know what road I would send you down. OFNA/Losi they both get you to the same place, in a different way. I don't like the proprietary nature of Losi (bearing sizes, starter boxes, ECT.)
