sewerdog 09-16-2010, 08:14 AM toby ,are you running a novac motor in your 4x4? Jerzferno 09-16-2010, 08:30 AM Anyone interested in a Kyosho US Sports Ready Set, updated to SP2 specs for the E/8 Off Road class? I have most of the nitro components for it as well except the engine. Your RX and steering servo and its ready to race. Let me know through a PM. Best Offer. Thought Id offer it to a club member before I sell it else where. sewerdog 09-16-2010, 09:15 AM if anyone is using the havoc pro sc system or the 4.5 motor can you pm me , i have a question maybe someone can help me out thanks tobamiester 09-16-2010, 11:32 AM toby ,are you running a novac motor in your 4x4? Yup 550 5.5 sewerdog 09-16-2010, 11:44 AM sent you a pm , thanks Toby tobamiester 09-16-2010, 06:19 PM Holy tornado batman...I'd hate to see the state of the track if the storm that just blasted Wayne (I was in target at the time) touched down up there.... radsnappy 09-16-2010, 07:55 PM its still in nj dont think the wind blew it away , hahaha ta_man 09-16-2010, 08:15 PM Holy tornado batman...I'd hate to see the state of the track if the storm that just blasted Wayne (I was in target at the time) touched down up there.... Brian and I went up to the track this morning hoping to do some testing. There were sections of the oval that had cracks from drying out but there were still puddles in some places, probably from Tuesday's rain (which was apparently very spotty). There was also some major erosion on the off-road track in the typical locations. I guess it could be even worse now if that rain hit the track. its still in nj dont think the wind blew it away , hahaha You talking about the storm or the track? Wayne Miele 09-17-2010, 05:22 AM Mark, do you have a stock motor that I can use for sunday for my truck. I have only the one in the truck and won't make it anywhere to replace it. Let me know. tobamiester 09-17-2010, 06:39 AM Mark, do you have a stock motor that I can use for sunday for my truck. I have only the one in the truck and won't make it anywhere to replace it. Let me know. Wayne, Need a Slash motor ? If so I can hook you up. ta_man 09-17-2010, 07:47 AM Mark, do you have a stock motor that I can use for sunday for my truck. I have only the one in the truck and won't make it anywhere to replace it. Let me know. Yes, I will bring some. Will you have a soldering iron handy to install it in your car? HYDE16 09-17-2010, 09:10 AM "The Dirt Runners Radio Control Car Club of Oak Ridge is at risk of losing tax-exempt status" This is a quote from the Advertiser-News North Paper under the article: "Nonprofits that may be in jeopardy of losing tax-exempt status" Anyone else see this? I haven't been on in a while so this may be old news. cobra22431 09-17-2010, 09:16 AM Gary there was never any plan on a fourth round, just 3 and mains LOL. I think we should run all the 3rd heat again and throw out what was done on the rainy day. we were told in the drivers meeting on saturday if it looked iffy it would be canceled so some people did not even show up sunday or just left after looking at the muddy track. As an example in the past on a regular race when we did not finish the first heat, the races that were run did not count for our point series. Also A good example of poor conditions some races were run in would be EDM which was run in a lake. only 1 car finished the race all others were taken out by water in the electronics. Picture of barts car a few pages back. If we dont want to re run the third heat then throw out the results of the partial 3rd heat and run the mains based on that. If we have a good looking day with no rain in sight I think re run the 3rd heat is the best decision but if it looks iffy run mains only based on first 2 heat results onlyI say we finish the third round, and then run a fourth round. I'm bound to finish a 4wd qualifier sooner or later, and I'm sure my LM can run a 30+ Q... if I could only keep it from liking to jump the double on the front straight of the offroad track...backwards  ta_man 09-17-2010, 11:38 AM "The Dirt Runners Radio Control Car Club of Oak Ridge is at risk of losing tax-exempt status" This is a quote from the Advertiser-News North Paper under the article: "Nonprofits that may be in jeopardy of losing tax-exempt status" Anyone else see this? I haven't been on in a while so this may be old news. Looks like there is a simple form to file and a small fee to pay to prevent losing the tax exempt status. http://www.irs.gov/charities/article/0,,id=225702,00.html tobamiester 09-17-2010, 03:46 PM Kind of fun http://search.espn.go.com/remote-control/videos/6 tobamiester 09-17-2010, 04:27 PM Gary there was never any plan on a fourth round, just 3 and mains LOL. Its ultimately up to the race director, but its does seem fair to take an all or nothing approach. Obviously not everyone will be pleased and DR does usually have a culture of trying to please mostly everyone. Maybe a drivers meeting at the start on Sunday and take a vote to restart 3rd Quals or Skip to the Mains ?? Lap Traffic 09-17-2010, 04:50 PM Good points really. Although neither of my round 3 qualifiers came up on Sunday, I concur. I am sure there were some that didn't show or didn't want to run in those conditions. There also may have been some TQs that fell because of the extraordinary track conditions early in the day. Just my 2 cents. solographix 09-17-2010, 05:01 PM There is also the people that showed, and risked running their cars in the rain to try an improve their qualifying positions, so do we just piss on them? Gary NJ 09-17-2010, 05:34 PM OMG - I was just kidding about running a 4th round! I didn't mean to open a can of worms about changing qualifying. My own opinion is the RD made the call that he would try and get the 3rd round in Sunday. At that time, it sure looked to me like we wouldn't get much if any more rain, based on the radar. I know Wayne didn't want to have to split a round in the middle - but the rain obviously had other ideas. Always a tough call to make when weather is involved, and you are always open to be Monday morning quarterbacked. It is also my opinion that it is kind of crazy to run qualifying over two days and then use rocket round, at least when talking about offroad outdoors. I guess for rug rats it is no big deal, but it soon was obvious on Sunday if the rain held out that round 3 would be where the TQs came from - it pretty much negated a lot of Saturday's qualifying. Who knows what this Sunday will bring as far as times for those heats still left to run?. For that reason, qualifying outdoors, if it contains a lot of rounds, or is spread over multiple days, is run using qualifying points. It is much fairer, and makes each round its own qualifying effort. Using Q points would have made this whole discussion a moot point. I'm OK with whatever is decided (as long as the remainder of Round 3 is at least run - every class should get their three shots). If it was my call, I'd say the RD had decided already, and he should stick to his decision. I was looking forward to long mains, and I hope we can run the longer mains for the lower mains as well, not just the A's. I'm just glad the weather forecast for this Sunday looks so good! tobamiester 09-17-2010, 05:49 PM There is also the people that showed, and risked running their cars in the rain to try an improve their qualifying positions, so do we just piss on them? We're just having a discussion here. No body is pissing on anyone... jeeze, chillaxe.. hermsrc 09-17-2010, 06:38 PM :wave:do what ever thay want big guy you the man : :dude: Lap Traffic 09-17-2010, 07:53 PM There is also the people that showed, and risked running their cars in the rain to try an improve their qualifying positions, so do we just piss on them? Well I'm sure not trying to piss anyone off and I'm sure not afraid to, but I do have an opinion. Yes I am sure some people ran in the rain Sunday in an effort to improve their qualifing times. What about the people that didn't have that opportunity because their qualifier was rained out? I am fine with what ever is decided as I'm nowhere near a TQ and sure don't feed my family doing this. hermsrc 09-17-2010, 08:58 PM :thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup: ;) daz 09-17-2010, 09:16 PM Hey Wayne can you pencil me in for Sunday... 1/10 4WD Mod Buggy Offroad 1/10 Short Course Modified Offroad 1/10 Mod Truck Offroad all club Transponder Thank you. solographix 09-17-2010, 09:51 PM Yes I am sure some people ran in the rain Sunday in an effort to improve their qualifing times. What about the people that didn't have that opportunity because their qualifier was rained out? The rained out qualifiers get ran on Sunday... as planned. Calvin M. 09-18-2010, 12:37 AM we stopped at race 11 cuz i was in it and did not finish so we should start on race 12 if we dont start the races again Lap Traffic 09-18-2010, 07:36 AM The rained out qualifiers get ran on Sunday... as planned. I know they do. I was simply referring to to the opportunity of running in those track conditions with better than normal traction. That's all. See you all Sunday. dano628 09-18-2010, 08:21 AM Jeez I go away for a week and look what happens . IMO you rerun round three or toss it out . Whatever is decided it is no big deal . Charlie-III 09-18-2010, 08:34 AM and sure don't feed my family doing this. BTW, speaking of "feeding your family doing this", is Chris from Traxxas coming back?? Has anyone heard?? dano628 09-18-2010, 08:44 AM There is also the people that showed, and risked running their cars in the rain to try an improve their qualifying positions, so do we just piss on them? I have a lot of money tied up in my cars , and I will not run my cars in those kind of conditions . Heat one my slash 4x4 battery unplugged on the first lap by the time it got replugged and turned on I was a lap down . Second heat speed control took a sh@t before race even started . I decided not to risk my equipment with Sundays conditions . IMO if your willing to risk ruining your equipment over a getting a better qualifying position for a chance of a winning a 25.00 trophy you are not thinking clearly . But thats just my opinion . Lap Traffic 09-18-2010, 09:22 AM Hey Dan, glad to see you're feeling better.:cool: dano628 09-18-2010, 09:25 AM Hey Dan, glad to see you're feeling better.:cool: I'm still under the weather . Lap Traffic 09-18-2010, 09:27 AM I'm still under the weather . By the looks of it, you are not alone. We are all under the weather:jest: Wayne Miele 09-18-2010, 09:30 AM There will be people that agree and disagree no matter what decision is made. I made the call last week that we will continue where we left off and I would say that is what we are going to do. It's not fair to the people that made the effort to come out on a not so good day. I know there will be plenty of arguments both ways. See you all tomorrow morning. Remember concourse at 9:15 and racing right after that. Chris from Traxxas will not be there tomorrow. Lap Traffic 09-18-2010, 09:40 AM Anyone been near the track? I'm guessing it is pretty ugly. cobra22431 09-18-2010, 09:45 AM I was one of them and im not in the habbit of pissing on myself LOL Ran my cars sunday, improved my 2wd offroad finish postition. Ran 4wd SC about same as before, participated in the EDM boat race where only 1 car finished due to the lake we raced on, almost lost expensive electronics like in a past race truggy speedo. My post was to try and suggest do what was fair and base it on what DR has done in the past when a race did not get finished. I think toby is right, a drivers meeting is in order to show what the racers want. I know wayne said we will pick up where we left off but he also said after that we will see. So a drivers meeting and show of hands is the best way to do it or a decision by all of our club board. There is also the people that showed, and risked running their cars in the rain to try an improve their qualifying positions, so do we just piss on them? Gary NJ 09-18-2010, 09:47 AM IMO if your willing to risk ruining your equipment over a getting a better qualifying position for a chance of a winning a 25.00 trophy you are not thinking clearly . But thats just my opinion . Hey, every time I put my LM on the track I feel like I'm risking ruining my equipment... ;) They're offroad cars - they are meant to get dirty. I never worry about ruining them...but sometimes if its muddy I'll take a pass because I'm too lazy to clean them :p dano628 09-18-2010, 09:56 AM Hey, every time I put my LM on the track I feel like I'm risking ruining my equipment... ;) They're offroad cars - they are meant to get dirty. I never worry about ruining them...but sometimes if its muddy I'll take a pass because I'm too lazy to clean them :p I hear you Gary running an L8 is a risky deal to start with . dano628 09-18-2010, 09:58 AM Chris from Traxxas will not be there tomorrow. Too bad he is a really good guy . Gary NJ 09-18-2010, 09:59 AM I thought Wayne's post was pretty clear - he made the call, and we pick up Round 3 where we stopped - which was what he said at the track last Sunday, and also online all week. I didn't see anything in his post that siad 'but we'll see'. Many times the fairest decision is to just make one, and stick with it consistently. I know rerunning the whole third round would personally help me in one class, but it also isn't the right thing to do for those guys that ran. nicwald 09-18-2010, 10:03 AM Looks like there is a simple form to file and a small fee to pay to prevent losing the tax exempt status. http://www.irs.gov/charities/article/0,,id=225702,00.html No fee, the form has been filled out. Apparently in 2006 (effective 2007) all small <$25K non-profit organizations must now submit a 990 form - no official letter was sent to any of the organizations and no letter was sent informing they did not file for the year - so we missed 2007 and 2008, they extended 2009 to October 15th - as of today we have filed - and we do not need to submit for the missing 2 years, in fact, the form we had to fill out does not even ask for financial information, just asks if you make <$25K per year ... which we do... so we should now be safe from having the tax exempt status removed - we will just need to resubmit the form each year moving ahead. Good news is there is no fee associated with the level of income we have, even for missing 2 years - the fee is only applicable to the people >$25K but <$100K. Thanks to everyone that brought this to our attention!! tobamiester 09-18-2010, 10:16 AM Too bad he is a really good guy .  Agreed. Super nice guy. We were very lucky to have had him visit our track. Maybe he'll post a blog up somewhere about what a great bunch of people he met at Dirtrunners, and more great PR for the Club. tobamiester 09-18-2010, 10:18 AM There will be people that agree and disagree no matter what decision is made. I made the call last week that we will continue where we left off and I would say that is what we are going to do. It's not fair to the people that made the effort to come out on a not so good day. I know there will be plenty of arguments both ways.. Wah. I want my mummy... Too bad, I wanted to loose my BigFoot name :) Guess i'll have plenty of years of retribution to look forward to  tobamiester 09-18-2010, 10:25 AM Anyone been near the track? I'm guessing it is pretty ugly. Yup was ugly when I went by on Wednesday like we discussed. The club really needs volunteers to go up there today to help out. I'll pitch in Sunday as needed but the kids have an event today that I gotta take them to. Charlie-III 09-18-2010, 12:51 PM  Agreed. Super nice guy. We were very lucky to have had him visit our track. Maybe he'll post a blog up somewhere about what a great bunch of people he met at Dirtrunners, and more great PR for the Club. +2 (Calvin & myself). I sent a nice email to Traxxas thanking them for having Chris at the DR event. Also for his support of those that were running Traxxas vehicles and his suggestions for improvement of setups (like suggestions to Calvin for his Slash). cobra22431 09-18-2010, 01:23 PM The "we'll see" was at the track when the races were stopped. Adding another reason to rerun 3rd heat over from start, I know of an additional sign up for somone who could not make it last weekend. there may be more, add that to the people who did not show up because it was said on saturday in drivers meeting sunday will be cancled if weather looks iffy and it sure did look iffy, add that to the people who showed up and left because the track was all muddy and hearing and seeing weather forecast of more rain. This 3rd qualifier could be the only qualifer somone gets because they were only gonna come sunday because they worked saturday. Add to that the people who did not put their car on the track espically towards the end when it was a mudfest. The people who ran the 3rd heat get to run again if its all rerun. Sorry I dont just jump off a bridge if someone says to I question it first LOL Thats what living in the usa is all about!I thought Wayne's post was pretty clear - he made the call, and we pick up Round 3 where we stopped - which was what he said at the track last Sunday, and also online all week. I know rerunning the whole third round would personally help me in one class, but it also isn't the right thing to do for those guys that ran. Gary NJ 09-18-2010, 01:57 PM I think if you rerun the 3rd heat from the beginning to be fair you'd have to allow anyone who ran their 3rd heat already the option to either keep their existing round 3 time and not run again, or take a shot at the 'new' 3rd heat. I'm sure the computer could handle THAT option... The race last Sunday was not cancelled - nothing was posted on HT saying we weren't running, and of course you could always call the DR number at the track and speak to Wayne (I did). Anyone who decided for themselves there wasn't a race did so at their own risk. Likewise those racers who didn't want to run when the track was wet; I understand that choice, but there is no reason to not count a heat - or rerun it - for that reason. I choose to run 4wd SCT in round 3 in spite of the conditions, because I blew out in 1 and 2. I had a good Q in 2wd SCT, so I sat that one out in round 3. If we had gotten as far as LM, I would have been back out - I needed round 3 in that one too. Weather and track conditions is part of the strategy of offroad - like I said in an earlier post, this ain't carpet racing. Wayne Miele 09-18-2010, 05:33 PM We will start heat 12 at 10:00am. We need to get the round done as fast as possible. Wayne Miele 09-18-2010, 05:34 PM Mark I found a motor. Thanks for the offer of the loaner though. ta_man 09-18-2010, 05:41 PM I think if you rerun the 3rd heat from the beginning to be fair you'd have to allow anyone who ran their 3rd heat already the option to either keep their existing round 3 time and not run again, or take a shot at the 'new' 3rd heat. Weather and track conditions is part of the strategy of offroad - like I said in an earlier post, this ain't carpet racing. While we were hanging around under the tent shooting the breeze and looking at weather maps on various peoples cell phones and computers, Charlie said that if we get to the point of standing water on the oval he was going to cancel. Some people took that to heart and left when they saw the standing water (I saw puddles on the backstraight). That turned out to be about 5 minutes before the rain [temporarily] stopped and people started trying to get the track runnable. So if you were there, based on what Charlie said, the race appearded to be cancelled for the day at that point. I think that was when Bob Foley (to name one that I remember) left. I'm just saying that many people had good cause to believe that racing was cancelled, either because of the weather, based on what was said the day before, or having been there and being told what was going to happen when the track got to a certain condition. I don't understand why the racing wasn't cancelled [again?] when the track got to that condition [standing water on the track: again!]. All I heard was Wayne announce that racing was cancelled because water was getting to the computer. vBulletin® v3.8.7, Copyright ©2000-2013, vBulletin Solutions, Inc.
