This time with a 5mm rotor n such http://www.teamepiconline.com/shop/item_new.asp?item=TEP1033 I am plenty happy with my stock Traxxas motor . It does run a little hot though which worries me a little . It is good to see that there are new motors being released but I would have to sit down with my electrical advisor Mark Stern before I bought anything .:cool: ta_man 07-21-2010, 11:46 PM Another motor option for SC 4x4. And updated version of the Dyson I ran , from Trinity. This time with a 5mm rotor n such http://www.teamepiconline.com/shop/item_new.asp?item=TEP1033 I am plenty happy with my stock Traxxas motor . It does run a little hot though which worries me a little . It is good to see that there are new motors being released but I would have to sit down with my electrical advisor Mark Stern before I bought anything .:cool: From what I hear, Trinity is not known for good parts support for all of their stuff. I would stick with Novak or try the Tekin. I'm using an older Novak HV4.5 with a 1/8" shaft so I can use standard pinions. I figure if the Velineon can survive in a Slash 4X4 with a 1/8" shaft so can a Novak HV. I hope. Now if only the endbell bearings would last longer.:( I'm on my third since the season started. For #3, I made a shield for the bearing to reduce the dirt that gets to it. Maybe that will help. Mark, Associated makes these foam washers to keep the grit out of ball cups. http://67.199.85.166/main/productdetails.php?text=6272&category=3500cxxxxx Maybe you can use them on the pinion shaft to protect the bearing. I have one if you would like to give it a try. ta_man 07-22-2010, 09:45 AM Mark, Associated makes these foam washers to keep the grit out of ball cups. http://67.199.85.166/main/productdetails.php?text=6272&category=3500cxxxxx Maybe you can use them on the pinion shaft to protect the bearing. I have one if you would like to give it a try. I've got some of those and I might consider it for a different car but I've already made and installed the shield on the Slash 4X4. The one that I did for my Neu motor in my E-8 (and now late model) has worked like a charm, so I'm hoping this will work as well. What I might do is put one of those foam washers (or something similar) between the pinion and the shield to further keep out dust. http://s92437987.onlinehome.us/ebaypics/Misc/shield-2.jpg Lap Traffic 07-22-2010, 09:54 AM Well that sure looks like it will be effective. Nice job. tobamiester 07-22-2010, 10:21 AM Well that sure looks like it will be effective. Nice job. Seriously. Thats hardcore. I was going to do the same with some Lexan and shoe goo  sewerdog 07-22-2010, 11:23 AM anyone been to track, whats the condition, any rain up there tobamiester 07-22-2010, 11:33 AM anyone been to track, whats the condition, any rain up there A few of us were up there on Tuesday breaking stuff and hanging out with the Bear. It was bone dry. Dunno if there has been any rain since Jerzferno 07-22-2010, 12:26 PM I am plenty happy with my stock Traxxas motor . It does run a little hot though which worries me a little . It is good to see that there are new motors being released but I would have to sit down with my electrical advisor Mark Stern before I bought anything .:cool: Have to agree with you Dan. My Traxxas system got me to victory lane. I havent temp'd mine to see what it runs? From the start I installed the Traxxas ESC cooling fan. I dont think mine is running too hot? cobra22431 07-22-2010, 01:01 PM The stock setup runs hot. I have a fan on the motor and speedo and I run a 12 tooth pin on the stock, all this runs cooler, my slash is stock but platinum version. Our track is not a horse power track. I put the fans on it to make it last longer because i feel the power is just right for our track from the stock stuffI am plenty happy with my stock Traxxas motor . It does run a little hot though which worries me a little . It is good to see that there are new motors being released but I would have to sit down with my electrical advisor Mark Stern before I bought anything .:cool: cobra22431 07-22-2010, 01:07 PM Mark is trying to keep bullets out, not only dust LOL, Mark did you see the 2 holes in the bottom of the rear skid plate where dirt and dust is getting in where spurr and pin are?I've got some of those and I might consider it for a different car but I've already made and installed the shield on the Slash 4X4. The one that I did for my Neu motor in my E-8 (and now late model) has worked like a charm, so I'm hoping this will work as well. I have a fan on the motor and speedo and I run a 12 tooth pin on the stock, all this runs cooler, my slash is stock but platinum version. Our track is not a horse power track. I put the fans on it to make it last longer because i feel the power is just right for our track from the stock stuff I run my Platinum with a 11 tooth pinion and it comes off the track after 5 minutes @ 190 degrees:o I'm thinking of going the fan route also. ta_man 07-22-2010, 02:07 PM Mark is trying to keep bullets out, not only dust LOL, Mark did you see the 2 holes in the bottom of the rear skid plate where dirt and dust is getting in where spurr and pin are? I know about those two holes. I don't care about dust getting to the spur and pinion, I care about dust getting to the motor bearing. Dust doesn't damage the spur and pinion (big stuff does, but not dust), but dust does end up getting into the motor bearing and making it gritty. I have had no success cleaning the Novak endbell bearings. I try to flush them and they just lock up. So this is to keep dust from the endbell bearing. A dust shield worked for the Neu I have in my E-8/L8 so I hope it will work for this. I kinda wonder how many other people are running Novak motors with gritty bearings and just don't notice it. I don't have this problem with any other of my motor bearings (the Neu has the shield, but the Tekin doesn't and it is still smooth, nor do my Castle motors have gritty bearings). Just the Novak endbell bearings. The bearing in this endbell is not actually a Novak bearing, but one I got from McMaster-Carr. I suppose as an experiment I could run it without the shield and see if it gets gritty, but then I'd have to change it. So I'll just run the shield and if it doesn't get gritty I'll live in blissfull ignorance as to whether the shield protected it or it is just a better bearing. dano628 07-22-2010, 03:30 PM A few of us were up there on Tuesday breaking stuff and hanging out with the Bear. It was bone dry. Dunno if there has been any rain since It rained for about 5 minutes last night . I am sure she will be dry tomorrow . dano628 07-22-2010, 03:32 PM From what I hear, Trinity is not known for good parts support for all of their stuff. I also finally spent more time with the ofna LM bob. found out how to get rear toe any way u want it. Also made a new front shock tower to work better with my longer shock shaft idea for our offroad oval LOL. its running very well now. im looking to hit a 32 lap record with itI run my Platinum with a 11 tooth pinion and it comes off the track after 5 minutes @ 190 degrees:o I'm thinking of going the fan route also. cobra22431 07-22-2010, 04:03 PM well i plugged the 2 holes with a bit of shoe goo. also running the under tray keeps stuff out of the center shaft area and that problem bearing areaI know about those two holes. Derek put a LX1 front shock tower and the longer GTP shocks on his DO. It looked real good last Saturday. ta_man 07-22-2010, 05:16 PM Thats what I like about you Mark you do everything overkill . Yup! And here is my solution to the problem of the rinky-dink center bearing on the Slash 4X4 along with a pic comparing the bearings side by side: http://s92437987.onlinehome.us/ebaypics/Misc/bigger-bearing-2.jpg The bearing on the left in the second pic is 160% bigger (2.6 times the total volume) compared to the stock traxxas bearing: http://s92437987.onlinehome.us/ebaypics/Misc/bearings-2.jpg dano628 07-22-2010, 05:42 PM Yup! No overkill on this mod:wave:. Mark had trouble twice with this bearing but I think part of that is due to the metal mount he uses instead of the plastic one in his picture. The metal one I think sends heat right in to the bearing making the lube thin out and causing premature trouble and also attracting dust to the bearing more. There is also a metal sleve u can buy to use on the slipper instead of the plastic. I dont know what the engineer that designed the slash was smokin when he used such a small bearing at the point where all the power goes out to the wheels but I wish I had sum LOL It must be nice to have more than a dremel, hand drill, jig saw, hack saw to make stuff mark , when do i get to be your sponsored racer from the sale of these? SWEET !!!! ta_man 07-22-2010, 07:41 PM he made me one, its in my slash but not track tested yet LOL. People have reported using the center diff and getting the diff up to 170F in heavy bashing with Castle monsters. My motor running at 140 would be taking heat away, not adding it. Sponsorship depends if anyone wants to buy and what they want to pay. HYDE16 07-23-2010, 08:07 AM I got an email from the guy who owns this truck but lost your email.
