Tug Speedman 07-14-2010, 02:18 PM Are we allowed to run say Proline rims with spec slash tires? It just popped into my head and I can't remember if we had a discussion on this or not. Stinks having C.R.S. at a young age.

As the rules are written, no.
Straight from the rules on the website as found at: http://www.dirtrunners.com/documents/Rules/Outdoors.pdf
"Wheels/Tires: Limited to the tires and rims that come stock with the kit only (Traxxas Short Course Tires and Rims specifically made for the 2wd Slash, E.G. different rims front and rear, S1 compound is specifically not allowed). You may remove the chrome from the rims and dye to desired color and/or paint rims. When racing indoors, electrical tape may be applied to any of the 4 tires to reduce traction. (Updated April 2010)"

'Warranty service' on a lot of these kind of items is French for 'product replacement' - if it breaks during warranty they give you a new one, after warranty you're on your own. A lot of this stuff is not really field repairable today. It might be worth your while opening it up and seeing if you can see something obviously wrong (wire off, burnt component, or something like that) and if so fixing it yourself. Otherwise, it's usually pitch it and buy another one.

I saw that. Looks pretty cool, not much smaller than the Slash, but more realistic in terms of the track width to wheelbase ratio...

fstbuik454 07-18-2010, 08:37 PM This may seem simple to you guys but I am having trouble getting traction with my RC10T4. When I was using it I did ok, but with my 8 year old daughter trying it for the first time in the last novice race she did a lot of donuts and she got discouraged!
It has the stock silver springs in the front & green in the rear. I have the battery as far back as I can get it. I put a stockstar 27 turn motor in it. Should I just get some more aggressive tires? Maybe lighter weight oil for the rear shocks?

Your spring combo is right. Try 35wt oil in the front shocks and 25wt in the rear. -2* camber rear, -1* camber in the front. Make sure the slipper isn't too tight. You could also try laying down the rear shocks and/or standing up the front shocks a little more. Step pins were just about the only rear tires I could get to work well on the Dirt Runners clay. I hope this helps.

Throttle control is hard for adults with 2wd on a low traction track, let alone an 8 year old. Loosen the slipper, add as much rear toe in as you can (use a 2 degree rear toe hub if Associated makes one - I think they do), and set the radio so that when she pulls full throttle she only gets 75 -80% of full power. Also adjust the radio if it has it to use some negative throttle expotential so it is easier to control the throttle as she first pulls the triggerIt's better to go slow but not do donuts in the beginning. Soft rear Proline Calibers (M3) will also help. I think -2 degree rear camber will help with cornering, but at the expense of straight line traction, which is what you need more of when you are first starting out. With 2wd truck you can run right up to 0 camber to keep the tire flat in a straight line, at the expense of some sidebite.
Once she gets the hang of controlling the throttle, you can go back to a more normal, balanced setup.

Ray, they have tried them in the past with little success, unfortunately. If the track was blue groove and less sand then it would be a totally different story.
cobra22431 07-21-2010, 07:10 AM even back when trackmaster jim gave us a blue groove track there was still some loose stuff on the track because of the mixture of dirt we buy and foams never hooked up. you would have to sweep the track he gave us many times during a race day for them to work and there is no way to get the track he gave us unless you use the compactor (it broken)for many hours during the race summer. If your having trouble with your LM or other car traction wise bring it over and let me lookman this thread has been awful quiet
