That box should be able to start your daily driver:thumbsup:

Good I was worried I bought a junker. The box looked like it was from the 70's or something. Are belt driven boxes inferior to direct drive?
All I am waiting on now is my body.

Got your PM, back at ya. IMO the dual motor, belt drive boxes are better - lighter and stronger. The direct drive chrome top Ofna is ok if you put more voltage in it, but its really heavy. If properly set up and aligned, all of them will work well enough after the motor is broken in.

Any body have a used/beaten-up/old Losi 8 body laying around that they forgot to throw away and would like to donate to a good cause? I want it to cut up to use as a dirt shield for my L8. Looking for a Nitro body rather than an electric body.

I have used them both and after three years with a Losi starter box ( twin motor belt drive ) and replacing countless motors and wearing out a belt I finally said screw it went back to a chrome top with a Lipo it will start the Queen Mary and I dont care what it weighs cause Im not racing it . It is a heavy beast though even with a Lipo .

Did anyone see the new Losi mini slider? I like the battery access on the chassis and the staggered rear tire. To bad its a Losi tho and unfortunately it will be lacking in areas.

Ray,

Do the motors run? Is there anything binding? Bad bearing. Locked up motor?

The switch only breaks one circuit (pos/neg) and it's not shorted?

Did you sell your B44? I had a guy here earlier today saying he bought a B44 from a guy at dirt runners with two saddle pack lipos for about 200 bucks with a castle system...Sounded alot like yours.

Nope it's still part of the herd. I like that class too much to get rid of it. Why, were you worried you didn't get the chance to spank me in race yet?:p:cool:

Ray - The switches in most starter boxes are just thinly disguised resistors, and then fuses. I never use the switches - just bypass them. If you look at what they are rated at, and then figure out the amps you draw when the box is really grunting, its a wonder they all don't melt immediately. On every box I own I replace the wire with heavier gauge wire, solder the wire to the motors (no slip on spade connectors), never use the Tamiya battery connectors (replace everything with Deans) and keep the contacts in the box top in good shape. Just doing those things, as well as paying close attention to how the drive pulley hits the flywheel, takes care of 90% of starter box issues.

I have all the others if you want to try them, but I turn as fast a lap as anybody with those springs. Steve runs them on his also.

Drive it before you change it:thumbsup::cool:

Seemed soft to me, but I'm no expert especially with this chassis/setup. If Ray's springs are the same as other OFNA guys then maybe with the pre-load adjustments we made, they're all good.

Eitherway, car looked great

Yup. The switch was rated like 10A!!! That thing is pulling 30+ amps under load...

My C&M body came last night, time to start putting her together!

And also what does everyone do about a rear bumper? My new body hangs off the chassis real far.

Most of us run the Onstat bumper, http://www.onstatcomputers.com/shopoval.htm. Mine is mounted on the shock tower (after I drilled a couple of holes). Looks like they make direct fits for the Losi/GTP these days.

Weather is looking great for Sunday. Gonna be hot mind.

We had a bucket load of rain down here in Verona last night. Anyone know if we had that up by the track last night ?

I agree 100 % . In my Losi box I rewired everything with Deans ultra wire hard wired the motors and replaced the connectors with Deans . The belt tension is also critical too tight you burn up motors too loose you strip belts . Never had problems with the switchs only have used two of them after years of use ( I have a Ofna belt drive , Losi 1/8 scale belt drive , Losi 1/10 belt , and a Dynamite belt drive box and they all use the same switch )

Damon is up there. sent me a pic. Looks pretty wet. He's going to do a little work, fill in some of the channels created by the moving water etc.

Maybe. Haven't seen alot of sun today, and my son was on a school trip in the area and he didn't see much either. I know its supposed to be nice tomorrow. I'd imagine the track would be 80% runnable at worst.

From that pic it looks like the areas we (mostly you) filled in Tuesday have smoothed out nicely.

It might have been 80% runnable (and I think that estimate was high) but only in continuous increments of 5 or 10%.
